total never dealt with any of my remodel issues - they just a couple of brothers who started a painting business and basically self trained to be a home builder/remodeling contractor. Not sure how they manage to stay in business. I would not let them mow my yard at this point. They cannot keep reliable subcontractors or designers because they treat anyone who is not related to them as the enemy vs dealing the companies issues. It is a true shame that their work has not held up. We failed our CO originally bc they had not had the insulation installed. It is just a shit show dealing with them. read more

I cannot put into words how I feel about this situation! I purchased a fully renovated house 5 years ago and since then I have to fix one thing after the other. Just today I fix the leak on my kitchen door that messed my entire laundry room because they didn't put proper weather proofing fabric and water was getting into the house! Few months ago we fix the master shower cause they didn't put a proper support under the shower floor. The vinyl floor in the entire house get separated from one another cause is not properly installed. I do have pictures of everything. People pay a lot of money already. Do yourself a favour and do a good research before you think of buying anything from that company. read more

We are pleased with the job THI did replacing our sunroom double hung windows with casement windows as well as a new sliding door. They encountered rotten wood and Michael, the project manager, kept us informed of the repairs needed. He was very responsive to all our concerns and corrected any issues promptly and to our satisfaction. read more

However, the professionalism, we didn't expect!! The entire team, from the project lead all the way down to the technicians, were extremely professional, polite, respectful of our property...and the list goes on! They will not honor the warrantee to fix the mold in the shower. The cause was inadequate installation of the tiles. I originally complained before about this work, but they insisted that I would not have a problem with mold. They gave me a five year warrantee that they now refuse to honor. Not only the fact they would not honor the contract, but they posted untrue posts about me on social media. They say that I should not complain because of the 5 year warrantee I have. How could they post negative untruths, when they will not honor the contract. Both statements can't be true. If they deny the warrantee, how could they post that I still have one? Total will not listen to my complaint, and told me to get lost. They will not give me a reason that they will not talk to me. It is bad enough that they will not follow manufacture's installation requirements, but to degrade their clients is totally unprofessional in my opinion. read more

THI remodeled my Master Bath and though the final results were good, it was like pulling teeth to get them going and to stay on the job. I designed and my brother and I built my entire 4 bedroom, 4 bath house faster than they remodeled one bathroom. I admit I did bulk at the beginning so they started late because of me. However, once the demo was done nothing happened for days and weeks and then when they did come back it was sporadic and made little real progress. I had to go behind their work and renail, add screws, and 2x4s to their framing to secure it properly and according to my standards. I was told my title pattern was overly complicated but when the tile person started working on the bath, he (Joe) said it was not an issue. Allow me here to say, that Joe, is an artist and takes his work seriously. Joe did a fantastic job. It was not until Jason was assigned as the Project Manager that the bathroom started to make progress. Jason also did a good job and I would recommend him. Overall the job looks good but it lacks the fine details that would make a job stellar. The final question is could I recommend THI? I would hesitantly say, yes. After several laps and mismanagement, THI and their people stepped up and made good on their word. However, hold them to a schedule and do not be afraid to call out their mistakes and lack of progress. read more

They didn't start on time and kept getting excuses. We removed most all of the cabinets. What should of been a 2 week job went into months. I had ordered my appliances to be delivered when they were supposed of been done and had to call the delivery people to delay twice. They did everything out of order and every time it was questioned the project manager said that's the way they do it. The people that they hired to do my cabinets kept changing the design telling me I was over budget. Finally after the fifth time I settled just so I could get my kitchen done. I would not refer them if you want the work done in a timely manner. I took pictures of all the steps before and after and everyone that saw them couldn't believe it took them months just to do that small amount of work. read more

I am very pleased with my interaction with THI during my kitchen installation. Family members did the demo and replaced the sheetrock. I got to a place where I just wanted to get it done. I hired THI to put my kitchen back together. It was a lot of fun going shopping with Kristi. Adam did a great job in keeping me updated on the timeline. I was fortunate that almost everything I selected was in stock. I would definitely refer them to my friends. read more

We were treated with respect. The project manager kept in touch to let us know when they would be going to my uncle's house so I could inform his caregivers. We were shown photos of the areas of concern that were found. The only issue we had was when a worker left a window open and a mini-split off, causing condensation in the room. This lead us to worry that the leaks had not been fixed. But Total checked on it several times after rains and it was confirmed that the issue was condensation, not a leak. We are concerned that we may have a return of the mold issue in the summer but have been assured that they will work with us. read more

We had a window removed. Right from the estimate to the final job, they were on time, professional, personal and easy to work with. At walk through there was a issue to resolve, it was handled quickly and without any problems. We have a paint technique on our walls that we were worried about, Tony & his crew worked from the outside so that none of the interior walls would be disturbed. Jobsite was clean. read more

I first was hired Total Home Improvements several years ago to build a custom deck that wowed fiends and the community. I then hired them do an addition and compete remodel of my home (house extension, front porch extension, new siding, and new roof) and they knocked it out of the park. I have had sooo many people (strangers and neighbors alike) come by and compliment me on my house, and asked who did the work. Lastly, when a big oak fell on our house this past fall, I called on THI once again. Completely restored and better than before. They are also wonderful to work with. I have had people tell me that THI is slow and is not cheap. There is some truth to that, but this is not a race - I'm looking for good work. And as the saying goes, "Good labor is not cheap, and cheap labor is not good". read more

Unethical and corrupt. Their greatest concern is getting your money and running. They did a kitchen and bath remodeling project for my mother. They did not finish after she made final payment, acknowledged they marked-up the price approximately 150%, most contractors mark-up is 20% range. The PM noted that she was owed a refund which never came. They were to replace plumbing under the sink which was not done, guess they didn't anticipate her looking under the sink. Extremely poor quality of work. I honestly believe they planned on taking advantage of an old lady, which they did. If you deal with them you will find a sales person looking to pad his pocket, PM who doesn't care about you or finishing and an owner only interested in your money. read more

THI treated me and my home with great respect. From the beginning planning stages to the end of the project, each worker that came (demolition, electrician, tile, walls, vinyl, cabinets, plumbing, carpenter, and project manager) was polite, careful and professional. You have to expect some things to not go as quite planned when you start one of these remodeling projects. So, when changes were necessary or wanted, THI made it easy. The office staff (design, quality control, product selection, and business office) was available when needed and answered questions in a timely manner. I cannot even begin to give the full list of complaints from the job they did. Hung light over bathroom mirror completely (not a smidge... like 4 inches) off center and rolled their eyes at me when I told them that was not acceptable. Damaged wall in a room they were not remodeling. Put marble backsplash on wrong. Went FOUR weeks past expected completion date.... but worst of all..... NEVER HOOKED THE TUB'S DRAINAGE PIPE UP SO WATER FROM TUB DRAINED INTO MY CRAWL SPACE FOR ALMOST A YEAR! Thankfully, my termite inspector filled us in on what he found and we were able to get this horrible contractor back out to fix the damages. Our bathrooms began to fall apart around us less than 1 year after they completed the work. This does not even put a dent in the list of things that went wrong with them...DO NOT hire this company! read more

We had a wonderful experience with Total! We are military and moved to the area and decided on Yorktown for the schools. Most of the houses we looked at were pretty dated so we knew we'd want to update. Not knowing which of the many options to turn to for home improvement we decided to ask our home inspector, who was very thorough. He recommended Total to us and we couldn't be happier with the results. The kitchen needed remodeling but we didn't think we would be able to do much with it due to the layout. Total redesigned the entire thing, moved a few doorways and openings and now the kitchen is open, and feels up to date. They fixed everything found on the inspection, replaced all of the flooring, painted, you name it. I wouldn't think of using someone else in the future. read more

Most recently they updated my kitchen and built an outdoor kitchen. They were able to tie it into the house to look like it always belonged. Waited more than 2 weeks for them to come give us an estimate. The guy, Randy Firth, came out and spent maybe 5 minutes taking measurements. Said he'd email me with an estimate in 2-3 days. It's been a week now, and not a peep out of them. We wasted a lot of time with these folks! read more

Their work was wonderful and we are very happy with our master bathroom renovation, but the communication was poor and they were about 6 weeks over their estimated timeline. They said it was based on a new project manager they had on our job, but were not really apologetic when I complained and often pushed the blame back on us. We both work and so not having someone there all day, we never really heard from anyone accept when I would email or stop by if I could. I would be hesitant to use them again. read more

First, the foreman on the job failed to do his due diligence and look at our subfloor to determine if we would need a leveler or a new subfloor (which we would have been willing to pay extra for). The tile subcontractor they used stayed at our house to work until 9pm, and at the end of the day, when he had tiled most of the floor, mentioned he thought the subfloor was too lumpy to look good. Sure enough, after the glue dried the floor looked like a hilly, lumpy mess. When we pointed this out to the foreman and a head foreman, we were told that it was "fine." It took both my husband and myself telling them exactly what was wrong for the head foreman to agree with us and make a plan to redo some of the work. When they came to redo the work, their "linoleum specialist" (we found out later that they had been trying to save money on the job by using the tile subcontractor to lay the linoleum, something he knew nothing about) said that in his opinion it would be best to order all new linoleum tiles and glue and put it all down on top of what they had already done. We went back and forth with the foreman about whether it was better to rip up the old work and lay down completely new subfloor or to just put new linoleum tiles over what had been done. We were told by the foreman that it would be "too much work" to rip up the old work. At the end of the day, the linoleum specialist came out and laid new tiles over the old ones which required us to cut and irreparably destroy an antique cabinet by cutting into the frame to make the extra height of new tiles fit. We also have to live with terrible looking transitions because the kitchen floor is now so much higher than the other floors. We took a week unpaid off of work for the initial install and then were required to wait weeks for the fix (at our cost) and then take more days off work for the repair job. The foreman was consistently completely unprepared (he asked us for saws!, drop cloths, paper towels, scrubbing/cleaning tools, etc) and he did a terrible job on the trim work after the first install (thankfully fixed by the carpenters that were sent out the second time around). We asked for him to be removed from the job, which he was, and was replaced by the head foreman (who claimed to not know about our conversations with the foreman re: ripping up the old floor). When they reset our appliances, they tried to get out of putting the gas stove back in (after the head foreman had written it on the contract list himself, in person). Stay away from this company for your own sanity. read more

BUYER BEWARE. Stay away from this company if you expect any service after the sale or think your warranty should be anything other than a worthless piece of paper. Six months after Total Home Improvements renovated our upstairs bathrooms we have had THREE leaks into our kitchen on the first floor below. THI has denied that they are in any way responsible any of this and won't even come out and look at the situation. This third time, the "warranty rep", hasn't even returned a call after five days. First, a toilet overflowed and the kitchen ceiling sprung a hole and water came seeping out. "Not our fault" was all we got from THI. I don't blame them for the toilet but in the twenty years I have lived in this house and raised two boys, toilets have previously overflowed. However, my kitchen ceiling has never before seeped water as a result. Three months later - water dripping into the kitchen again. This time a hole in a copper pipe. "We didn't touch the copper pipes" was THI's response. Now a sporadic leak that looks to be coming from the drain pipe (we can see this, because our ceiling is still torn open from leak #2). Thank goodness we have trusted plumbers (NOT from THI) who have repaired all this since bathroom water seeping into the kitchen requires immediate attention, something THI doesn't ever give you - before, during or after the sale. read more
