ŌKA is the best gym I've trained at, and it's not even close. I'm there 3 to 5 times a week and I still look forward to every session. The community is the biggest reason. New people get taken care of, longtime members still get pushed, and everyone wants you to get better. That's harder to find than it sounds. Ron, the owner, is a big part of why it feels that way. He knows his stuff at a level you notice immediately, but what stands out more is that he actually cares about every person in the room. He remembers what you're working on and checks in on it. The rest of the coaches are the same way. I've never left a class without something I could use the next time I trained. I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm still learning constantly. The environment was extremely unprofessional, and both my son and I felt it from the moment we were there. There was a complete lack of respect. It was clear that respect for parents and children is simply not part of the culture in this club. You should be prepared for parents to step onto the training floor just to protect their own children. The club manager is completely unprofessional. When this happened for the second time, I tried to speak with him to resolve the issue. Instead of addressing the problem, he chose to mock my accent. I am sharing this experience as a warning to other parents. If you decide to enroll your child at this club, never leave them unattended. Stay there and watch every practice, because the same thing that happened to my child could just as easily happen to yours. read more

I been going to Oka ever since it open. Even though it's a bit far out for me, the classes are worth it. It's always good vibes with the group & coaches there. It's very beginner friendly but the coaches there are experts in their craft that also can be catered towards a person starting out or if youre a competitor. Coach Ron Scolesdang is an actual Muay Thai champion & side job as the city commissioner so yeh & the other coaches there that have also competed and trained world class fighters. they have international coaches and coaches that fought in the 90s , 2000s & even now so you'll get a plethora of knowledge, I know I did. We love oka! The staff are all very knowledgeable and give you a great run down of how the gym works. The classes are super challenging but always feel like we got a great workout and learn good technique. It's hard to find a gym that incorporates improving technique while also giving a good cardio workout! I'm brand new to martial arts but the community has always been super welcoming. I've only taken 3 classes in the morning with Shawn but so far, I'm having a lot of fun! As a beginner and total novice, kickboxing has been the only form of exercise where I don't have that initial "ugh, I don't wanna workout." It's extremely beginner friendly--I kept delaying my first class due to uncertainty that I can keep up but the early morning classes are small enough to get more close instruction and feedback. I've been to several kickboxing gyms in OC, but this gym is the cleanest, has the friendliest staff, and caters to all levels. They offer both cardio kickboxing as well as contact/sparring/fight club classes which are at night. Their curriculum is legit and rotates on a weekly basis so you have time to refine technique. They also offer classes on Saturday which is a big bonus since most gyms are closed on the weekends There is no sign up fee and you pay week to week so there is no commitment. But I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up staying as a lifelong member cause that's how good the gym is. read more
