I inquired via email (from his site) and he replied back same day. We exchanged a number of emails, with him sending a handful of questions each time to pinpoint what kind of surfer I was, my skill level, and what my preferences were for my next board. I set up a meeting and he asked to bring my current boards with me. He analyzed the crap out of my board (in a good way) and thoroughly explained what he can do and what kind of ideas he had. Wayne hand shapes each and every board and seems to be very detailed oriented. He is also a really cool dude who has a lot of good stories to share. Board was finished according to schedule (less than 4 weeks). I've surfed my board twice already and I have no regrets in buying it.

Bit of a different review from everyone else for Olympus Board Shop: this is for their Onewheel…read morerental and sales! I came across them while looking for a local place to rent a Onewheel, the electric skateboards made by Future Motion. They're an authorized dealer; perfect, I'd rather buy local. I went to their website, and turns out they also rent! $70/day if less than 4 days, $60 for 5+ days. I wanted to try out a Onewheel before dropping $1k, so I texted and set a day to come by. They also require a 30min tutorial if you have no experience: perfect, I have zero experience and it'll be helpful to learn from a human. Tyler helped me do a few laps in the parking lot, let me borrow a helmet, and I went home to practice more. By the end of the rental period, I knew I wanted one of my own. After some back and forth, we got my order figured out and submitted. They applied the money I spent on the rental towards the purchase of a new board, I put down a deposit, and the wait began. Something to note: the owner, Jeremy, let me borrow a shop board until mine arrived. Due to some mix-ups with the delivery address, I ended up holding onto the shop board for weeks. I really appreciated having the extra time with the loaner and all the additional practice hours I got in. By the time my board arrived, I'd gotten a total of 18 miles in. For anyone else in my shoes - zero experience, nervous about spending so much, not sure if Onewheel is for you - this is the place to start. Rent first, learn on a loaner, buy when you're ready.

Wow these guys really stand behind their stuff!!! I brought in some flux bindings I had gotten…read morefrom then on a board a few years ago. A bolt had gotten loose and fallen out while I was boarding last weekend. They took a look at the joint, grabbed another binding, took out the matching bolt and captured nut, and spent 10 min rebuilding the joint, and checking all the other fasteners in the binding. They double checked the whole thing by comparing it to my matching binding from the other side and handed them back to me. I said to them "awesome, what do I owe you?", and they smiled and just said "you're good". Can't speak highly enough about Jeremy and the guys at Olympus. They'll always be my shop.

Michael Zippi is a surfboard shaper...and he is damn good at what he does. He only makes one type…read moreof surfboard and he's got it down to a science. Zippi shapes fish and his fish are the best fish you can find. Those of you who know about fish, know that they excel in small surf and that they paddle into waves easily. The down side to most fish, however, is that they have a tendency to "spin out" in larger, steeper surf. Their width and thickness compromise their ability to hold a line. This is not true for Zippi's fish. They paddle just as easily and can hold a line in waves that other fish cannot. This is why his boards are referred to as high-performance fish, and man are they fun. Very responsive, yet loose, and they're gorgeous to look at too. Zippi is as accomplished as an air-brusher as he is a shaper. Stunning boards. People are always commenting on mine and asking where I got it. Where do you get one? Well, you can find them in local surf shops, but I would definitely recommend going to Zippi directly. He'll make one to your specifications and custom paint it, all for about the same amount of money, or even less then the shops are charging. If your not sure about the size, width, thickness, etc. he's more than happy to help you with that. He'll even let you demo boards to find what's right for you. He's a really cool guy. Oh yeah, and the turnaround on a board order is only about 2 weeks or so, so you don't have to wait too long to get that board you're jonesing for. If you're looking for a fish, look no further...these ARE the droids you're looking for. He has a customer in me for life, I think.

I ordered a few boards to figure out what felt right and they were very accommodating. Two items were from their "clearance" section (blemished only, nothing really wrong with them) and one came a little warped. They offered to let me bring it in to let them take a look and ended up just replacing it. The boards are known for being great training tools for surfing. As if that wasn't enough to get you to go with a Carver, the employees I met were super chill but absolutely on top of things. Carver's boards are fantastic and their customer service is top notch. GO GET YOURSELF A CARVER and support a business that deserves every penny of what these things cost. * I dont work for them - just a surfer with a desire to surf even when the weather isnt cooperating. He listed to me, advised me and then got me on the perfect board which he also had in stock (I was expecting to have to wait a while to get one made for me). Pricing was very fair, product quality is top notch and I got the expert advise I wanted and needed so badly from Paul (who is a ripper/bad ass surfer himself). All around a 5 star experience! I will be adding some additional Chili boards to my Quiver in the future. I highly recommend these guys!
