I come here for mystic spray tanning and airbrush. I usually do the "glow" or "light", and both give me nice tanned look. The machine is almost as great as the airbrush. I've tried spray tan machine at other salons, but I did not like them. The one here is the best. I like doing the mystic tanning 1~2 days prior to my event / occasion. I scrub my body in the shower and wear no lotion before I go get spray tanning. I usually put an old sheet on the bed as the color can be transferred to the sheets. I use dark color towels as the color comes off when I take a shower next morning. I think I look more natural on the second day. Try the "glow" if it is your first time. read more

AHHH-MAZING!!!! Had such a wonderful experience here! I was early for a flight at LAX so I yelped a tanning salon nearby. This one had a coupon so I headed here blindly. It was very close to the airport. SOOOO CLEAN!!!! If there were 10 stars, I'd give it! Super nice girls at the front. State of the art Mystic shower! I could not have had a better experience nor tan! Also- I recently had to start taking medication which has prevented me from using tanning beds. I had purchased a package that I only got to use a few times. The front desk was super helpful in getting me in touch with the owner, who called me the next day. We were easily able to sort out an alternative for me at no loss of funds I had paid - awesome! This review is WAY overdue. I have been using this facility for a couple of years now. The staff is great and always treat me with kindness and are very respectful. About a year ago I went into the salon to tan and took off my 14K gold Rolex. I was in a big hurry and walked out without my watch. I didn't realise until the next morning that I had left it there. I was SICK when I realised what I had done. I immediately called the and they said they had found my watch and had locked it up until the owner called and identified it. I went in and they returned it with a smile. The negligence on my behalf almost cost me thousands of dollars. I have been tanning on and off at the West Hollywood location (well, years ago) and as of the last few months been a very happy customer at their Marina Del Ray location. It is a warm family run business. The girls do an exceptional job with the custom spray tans. Nicholas is a caring sales rep at desk. He is very detailed and helpful with different suggestions. Love total tan. After canceling my membership somewhere else I came to total tan. I can only spray tan which they have 3 great options versa, Mystic, and airbrush. Mystic is my favorite because it gets me the darkest, but all options are solid. Staff is always super sweet and the place is always super clean. I purchased a voucher on amazon and was very happy to find that the facility was neaur by, very clean and had super friendly service. I went in prior to the 24 hrs processing that amazon allows but the guy working the front desk was super cool and let me use it anyway. He was very thourough, he explained the time limilts on each of the beds and even let me look at the beds before I decided on upgrading. I went ahead with the upgrade and only paid an extra nine bucks for the gold bed as well as the stand up bed. Best deal I have found so far, I will def go back when my month ends!! read more

We liked the place. Had a groupon that was dirt cheap so gave it a shot. The place is clean with plenty of beds. Yes, a few times it was busy and had to wait a few minutes but it ws quick, not excessive, and only happened a few times usually in the evenings around 6 (probably peak time). The only negative was, we had unlimited tanning for one month. When we started, they provided complimentary goggles. But 3-4 days before our time was up they suddenly stopped providing goggles and gave a really hard sell to get your own or not be able to tan. Felt like it was too much of a hard sell, especially since we only had a few days left and we told them we wern't going to re-up. Other than that, cool, clean, fast, and generally pleasant. read more

I'm going on vacation so this was my first time ever getting spray tanned. The whole process to me is just weird. The guy at the counter looked like he was barely out of high school and didn't really do a great job of explaining how the whole process worked to a new customer but he was definitely trying to the best of his ability and was very cordial. I got the medium tan and it looks pretty natural on my Asian skin. The only thing is make sure you wear something that you don't mind getting dirty just in case and wipe off your feet before the tan sets (the bottom of my feet were ridiculous after the 6 hours). Other than that, I'm pretty happy I don't look all weird and orange. I'd probably get another spray tan if I'm ever going on another beach vacation or to Vegas. read more

In fact, I felt very overwhelmed with all the options and numbers and promotions and products the associates were trying to sell me on without ever finding out what would be relevant to my needs or lifestyle. There was no time allowed for me to digest the information they were giving me before another option was thrown my way. The amount of time spent on closing the sale from the moment I walked in without even tanning actually took away from the experience I was looking to receive. Total Tan really has improved. 5 star value, service, and employees. Not only are the employees A LOT friendlier now, it is sparkling clean. I bought a Groupon for 3 custom spray tans. I was so worried I would come out looking orange. Instead I came out of the custom spray tan by Lindsay looking like I'd spent a week lying on the beach in Greece. IT WAS FABULOUS. They really know what they're doing and Lindsay could not have been friendlier. She answered all my questions without getting annoyed and the entire process only took about 6 minutes. The morning after my spray tan I realized I left my 100+ year old family heirloom necklace at Total Tan. Although it's worth a lot of money, the sentimental value is what is so important. It's a necklace from my great-grandmother that just can't be replaced. I called Total Tan and the nice employee, Phil, took my information. Within 10 minutes he called me back to say that they had my necklace and would keep it safe until I picked it up that evening. WOW. I cannot thank Total Tan enough. I highly recommend! read more

The best spray tan place I've been to! (and trust me I've been to a lot!) I get the custom airbrush spray here by a technician and the tanning solution is perfect and customized for your skin tone & how dark you want to be! There is even a dryer on the gun which leaves you feeling not sticky and you are able to get dressed after your spray and not have to worry about it coming off on your drive home. I am always in and out within 20 minutes and ALWAYS get compliments on how natural my tan looks. Tan looks AMAZING in photos as well. Love this place! read more

Been around the tanning scene for years. This is a full-service tanning salon offering various beds and package options. One can always upgrade, Saturday's are 1/2 off, and there are specials during the week on various days. Rarely have to wait for a bed, parking is plentiful, premises and beds are very clean. Towels provided are clean but a bit on the "scratchy" side, could use some fabric softener :) Prices are in line with other competing salons. I bought 6 classes via groupon. I have used 4 sessions with 2 remaining. I don't see any difference with the cellulite, i think i trimmed down a bit but that could be from the change in my diet. So i really can't tell.They wrap like about 5 to 6 plastic device around you arms, stummy, butt and thighs.It gets very hot! But i do enjoy the sweating sessions, it can get very uncomfortable at times, but just call the staff to turn it down. The staff are very helpful and friendly.. Am sure if you stick longer with this you may see a difference. I prefer the sweat log than having certain body parts wrapped up. read more

I am an experienced tanner and have tried other salons in the area and Total Tan is BY FAR my favorite. I purchased the month unlimited level 3 for $129 and I have three different options of beds I could use on that level. Each time I renew I get a free tan too! Whats most important though is that this salon is the cleanest I've been to and the employees have your best interest in mind and always inform you of the month specials and new ways to save in these tough times! Even today my membership had expired and I was going to come back another time and the owner let me tan for free anyways. [ Atmosphere ] Very clean, upscale yet with a mix of modern/retro look. Beds are well maintained - even the base priced beds. Rooms are spacious and feature at least a small mirror for your convenience. There is a place to hang your clothes too which was perfect for me on my lunch break to avoid wrinkled clothes. They used to provide the goggles but they stopped a few months ago. One hand towel is provided with each bed. [ Synopsis ] Although Total Tan provides great customer service, and the establishment is well maintained; I gave it a 4 out of 5 for pricing. I think in general this is one of the better spray tan machines. My only complaint is you basically get sprayed 3 times on your front but only 1 in the back. I wish the machine sprayed you twice in the back. I'm always way darker in the front. read more

Upon moving to Marina Del Rey, I needed to find a new tanning salon. Because I love Peets and Penguins (total tan is sandwiched between them in a shopping complex) I decided to try it. The staff was rude and seemed bothered that I had come in. I wanted to try their promotion - something like try all of the beds once for a small payment - but was informed that it expires a week from when you sign up. That would mean I would have had to tan every day for a week to take full advantage of this offer - crazy! So anyways, went into my bed - came out burnt to a crisp. No one had asked me how long I should go in for, how my skin reacts to the sun, or if I had a base tan already. Therefore, after the maximum time - I was red, itchy, tight, and in pain for about 4 days. I'm NEVER going back. There are way better places in the Marina that actually take care of you. read more

First, I went in and got a tan. I havent been to a tanning bed in over 5 years. There was only one girl there and she didnt even walk me to the tanning bed or show me how to use it. Also, i am super pale and she put me in for 15minutes. I could barely sit for 5 days because my behind was PURPLE. Not dark red or pink, PURPLE. My hands are bright orange and I have spots that were just completely neglected -like the sides of my forearms. So I am orange and white all over. Awesome. Thanks total tan marina.
