Went to a wine class here and although the wine class was great! And I enjoyed learning about all things wine. The class started bad. Nobody checked the class list and two women had to stand as the class was overbooked. And several (8) of use had DIRTY glasses. Our glasses were so dirty that they had lipstick on the rim of the glasses. An employee did clean all the glasses but you have to wonder who set the room up with the dirty glasses.? So I've been to this location a few times, never a bad experience before. Always good but wanted to highlight my last visit. We came in looking for a tequila (to make margaritas) and an amaretto. Sean was the one to approach us and ask us what we were looking for and also what we planned on using it for (mix or to sip solo). Told him tequila and that's when he suggested a certain bottle that wasn't going to break the bank and would be good for mixing in. He also gave us a recommendation for the next time we come in looking for one to sip by itself, and even let us taste try it. I have a picture of the bottle for whenever we go next! He also was nice enough to tell us the difference between two different amarettos, pointing out which one was artificial (one we have previously tried and liked), and one that was new to us that wasn't fake flavoring (which we ended up getting). Normally, I love to go into total wine. However, this location I was after a specific bottle of champagne that was more than $50. Could not find it in the store couldn't find anybody to even help me was ready to walk out. Ask somebody if they could look it up they handed it off to another lady that was doing something else. Finally somebody walked by said oh that's locked up pushed the button and I continued to wait. Probably would choose a different location over the snooty one here. read more

Inside the cigar room the gentleman introduced me to several types and brands and I choose Makers Mark infused with Brandy liquor or something like that. This store can be a little intimidating and overwhelming, but thankfully, the staff is extremely helpful. I was approached by 4 smiling employees wanting to know if I needed help finding items; one lady (wish I would have gotten her name), took my all the way across the store without even a blink of an eye. They have a huge selection of liquor, wine, beer, mixers, drink garnishes, gifts, cards, cigars and even snacks. Prices are great! I found many of my favorites are priced lower here than nearby competitors. The store is exceptionally clean, stocked well, advertises Texas brands, displays merchandise well, has pairing boards with information on what wine goes with what and plays nice music over the speakers. I love this location and all the easy access parking. This retail space has been a Rice Epicurean, a Central Market and now a leader in helping people celebrate to the fullest. Way to go, Total Wine! This is my favorite Total Wine, because the people will recognize you, say hi if they know your name (I haven't given mine out, but I've heard them use customer names before) and generally the layout is nice, pretty, and logical to me. The classes here are the best part. Their is currently a sommelier who use to be an accountant, and said he was previously in the marines, I think. I'm pretty sure he's spy material for future movies. He's interesting, because he obsesses over all the details during wine classes. Because of him, I learned I hate sparkling wine. I thought most of them were absolutely disgusting. I'll give him credit though...he loved it. "This expensive wine from the regions of France, where only the rich live, holds the rarest grape in existence. It's called the infinity grape. You can get this bottle for 99.99." That's basically him. He also gives a lot of extra historical information, and I've laughed at some of the info, not because it wasn't accurate, but because I thought the placement of the info was bizarre. Now, how can I give this a high rating? Because I'm entertained and I'm seeing this guy improve with every show. He knows he's kinda shy and mousy. He uses a microphone now. Maybe he won't tell us next time, if we knew during Greek times their were soldiers and spartans and politicians. It's just basic stuff you should have learned in middle school, thrown in. Other interesting stuff. The management their will let you know if you missed out on stuff or tell you how hard it will be to get something. For instance, my husband loves bourbon. He's on a facebook group for bourbon lovers. They call the people who buy lots of bourbon and sell it for 3x the value taters or as I lovingly call them...tater tots. So not good for you, but still tasty...like a tater tot! I love the selection. They generally have what I want and the classes here seem to be more frequent than at other places. The staff is over the top friendly and they have the coolest vendors come here for tastings. We just recently had some guy from A&M sell us his liquor. It was a native Texas plant, that kinda look like a cross between a pine cone and an acorn on steroids. The guy that created it, even signed our bottle. We had another nifty lady share premade drinks that were actually good. The stuff here is too good not to enjoy. I like this store enough, that it's worth driving from the Sugarland area to visit it. This is not your little neighborhood corner store. Businesses buy/rent an available plaza space and simply bring in their products. If you've been in a distillery you'll feel like you're there again due to the choice of hard flooring, wooden items throughout the store (like shelves, and barrels), and the exposed ceiling. We meant to stock up for a barbecue, but the selection was vast that we ended up with enough for the entire four day stay. This place is pretty large. They have every type of alcohol of course, but they also have a few local products which is cool because you kind of feel like you're getting the first picks or freshest picks. They have all the extras you may need: metal ice cubes, insulated carry bags in different shapes for different bottles, flavored syrups, charcuterie boards, a selection of Boar's Head products, insulated cups and bottles, cigars, all the things. These people know their alcohol. My friend was looking for this somewhat high end tequila. He couldn't find it because they have it stashed somewhere, but they have it. We got some peanut butter whiskey and a guy suggested a mix to try that would taste like PB&J. My friends liked the taste of this whiskey. Covid Precautions: Masks are required. There are hand sanitizer stands at the entrance, exit, near the registers, and at the end of some of the aisles. There were people standing at what looked like sampling tables, and you're asked to sanitize before interacting with the products at these tables. I live in the area and have frequented this establishment in the past. We usually buy larger amounts in bulk to distribute to my employees and companies we do business with. However, tonight I walked in for a few items for a Mother's Day basket. Only to be told that if I did not put on a muzzle on my face, that they would call the police on me... Well....FU "total wine." During Covid19 there has been more time to decide where you may choose to spend your time and money.That is to say if you still need some downtime and do not wish to go with the masses to your local grocery for wine or other liquor you may want to at Total Wine & More.They offer an extensive selection and a knowledgeable staff that is willing to assist even at the recommended 6 foot distance. I came in here looking for a couple of Maker's Mark Astros commemorative bottles (blue/orange wax instead of the typical red wax). Nobody greeted me or carded me at the door but as I kept walking, a gentleman approached me and asked if he could help me find anything. I told him what I was looking for and he led me to where they whiskey/bourbons are. Once there, he was having a hard time actually locating the Maker's Mark but he apologized to me and admitted that he actually worked in the wine department. I thought it was pretty cool of him to help me find something that's not in his department. After I found what I was looking for, I made a quick stop looking in the Scotch/fancy drinks display. A different worker approached me and made conversation with me about the display (not trying to sell) and the Astros Maker's Mark in my possession. Prior to leaving, he told me to let him know if I needed anything. Check out process was quick even though they only had one register open. But the place was pretty empty. It seems like the majority of people still go to Spec's for the alcoholic beverages need. I have to say though, the prices here are better than Spec's, and the best thing about shopping here is I can actually pay with a credit card to get their best price instead of having to use my debit card. This is probably the best Total Wine location in Houston. I haven't been to all of them, but out of the ones I have visited, this one seems to be the best stocked and with some of the best staff on hand. I think some of it has to do with being a bit tucked away in the Lantern Lane shopping center as opposed to being right off a major intersection. I really like their wine and spirits classes, which they hold in a room in the back corner of the store. They usually use store managers and associates to run the classes, but they also bring in winemakers and distillers when they can. I really like whiskey, and I appreciate how their selection is broken up by bourbon, small batch bourbon, and American whiskey, which helps you find stuff easily. Most places just throw everything under bourbon even when the name doesn't apply and you're sifting through irrelevant options to find what you need. I've been trying to get my wife a sample of a type of rum since I tried it in the Sugar Land store, but they were always "out" of sample bottles. After our whiskey class, Jason (I think he's the wine manager?) was kind enough to locate a bottle that they had open for tastings and provide my wife a sample to try. Naturally, we bought it immediately. The Sugar Land store is still the closest one and my first stop for convenience, but I'll be coming to this one more often since they're better stocked and their staff is more friendly. read more

Over half of their staff had no idea about wine, but pretended to and made horrible recommendations always directing you to wine they made commission on, regardless of the quality. There are a few really good wine consultants at Spec's but they are few and far between. The majority of the staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. Your prices are more competitive that Spec's and selections equal to or better; and in a beautiful store. read more

Stopped by this location on Friday afternoon (4/14/23) to make an exchange on an online order. From the female associate handling the online order pickup, the manager (didn't catch his name) and the sales associate, Damon were extremely helpful. The exchange was seamless and Damon made alcohol recommendations that were super helpful based on what we were needed for our event. I retrieved what appeared to be the last bottle of a specific wine. When I approached the cashier-I asked If she could check and see if they had more or any other location had stock. Her immediate reply-before evening scanning the bottle, "I'm sure this is all we have". I then went back to the isle scanned the barcode and found another location that had stock. If you don't want to work-then don't work. Your unwillingness to help-gives the entire store a negative vibe. They all look the same no matter where you go but this one is in a nice area at least. I generally like TW and rate them more on their surroundings than anything. Never needed any help, don't remember interaction from customer service, nothing really stands out than any other TW. This place is the candy land of alcohol haha I'm a HUGE stout fan which makes me aware how these big stores tend to forget about stouts. This is the case here. I was looking for some stouts and noticed A LOT of the stouts had already expired. They are still drinkable, but either fall flat or give you a nasty stomach ache the next day. Again, I only know this with stouts because this happens to me a lot. I was super excited to see the stout selection, but super disappointed to see so many stouts had expired. Sigh. Anyway! Total wines is right. A wine drinkers dream. You can spend hours in here purusomg their aisles. It's not just wine. They carry all types of spirits, rums, gin, vodka, whiskey, beer, they have a humidor etc etc. The staff is personable and very helpful. They do tastings as well. If you love Spec's come here too. This will be your home away from home. Kudos to Andrew at Total Wines. He has a calm easily going mannerism about him. He is a reservoir of wine knowledge. He does wine tasting classes here. I'm not a fan of pompous wine snobs. No problems with that here. I've driven last Total Wines on Memorial many times. I'm glad that I was able to stop in and see what they had to offer. I've been to this location multiple times. It's is continuously an issue with being followed and constantly watched. I've worked in retail and understand "theft prevention" but their terrible at it. I don't want to walk aisle to aisle with a person on each end of the aisle watching me. It shouldn't take me asking for assistance with more than several team members in the store to get help. There were plenty of tastings & swag given when I walked through the doors. Loved, loved the champagne & sparkling section. Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame's price was very reasonable! I looked at several of my favorite labels (including the wine & vodka section) & found the prices around $4 cheaper than Spec's & Randall's. The staff was awesome, plenty walking around & I was steered in the right direction when looking for a Sauvignon Blanc. AND their selection of Rieslings is decent with several offerings of the dryer variety. The place is huge, pretty & easy to navigate through. They have a tasting section with wine, spirits & beer tastings every weekend. For those of you who like a stogie every once in a while their cigar humidor where you get a 10% discount if you purchase a full box. Their glass selection is large with all of the accessories you can imagine. I have my eye on a wine decanter stand that hangs the decanter upside down when drying. With a selection of over 2,500 beers (with cold kegs in stock), over 3,000 spirits & 8,000 wines I think you need to look no further than Total Wine & More. read more

I have been coming to this total wine for a few years now. At first, my interactions were not the warmest; but lately, I have loved shopping here! I'm not sure if it's a whole new staff or what, but I definitely feel like I have MY wine spot.
