First of all, I'm old. That matters only because I've lived enough of life to know that how we treat people matters. This young lady was standing alone at the register, looking down at something below my sight line; I believe it might have been her phone. I asked her if she could point me toward the margarita salt. She exhaled deeply as she looked up from whatever I interrupted, instantly sending out the "annoyed" vibe. I know this vibe all too well because I have an 18-year-old daughter. After directing me to the correct aisle, she quickly returned to whatever had her distracted prior to my question. After searching high and low for the 1.75-liter Patron, I reluctantly asked this young lady where I could find the Patron. Again, it seemed as if I interrupted something that was more important. She said, "Sir, our Patron is all locked up and secured here in the front." Okay. I put my margarita mix and salt on the belt as I waited my turn. So it's now my turn, and I ask for the bottle of Patron that she knew I was there for. She walks over to where the bottles of Patron would normally be "secured", only to discover that they don't have any 1.75-liter bottles up front. She gets on the radio and requests backup, I guess. After two customers behind me successfully check out, a tall and skinny Black woman comes over to see if maybe she can find the bottle. I asked her why they have Patron locked up when they have far better tequilas still on the shelf. She said, "It's a high theft item, sir." Okay, I can understand that, but if that's the practice, shouldn't we ensure that it's always stocked up front so the customer isn't subjected to an unnecessary and lengthy wait? She said, "If you don't like it, you can go to Walmart." I continued to wait as a third customer behind me was getting checked out. After roughly five minutes, I finally saw a young man bringing a box of Patron to the front. Just as I approached the countertop, another customer asked about gift card options. The distracted young lady began to go into a lengthy explanation rather than simply saying, "Give me one minute, let me help this gentleman who has been patiently waiting, and I'll be right with you." I simply asked the distracted girl if she could just ring me up because my patience was running thin. The distracted girl said, "Sir, you need to drop the attitude because I'm about to refuse to sell to you, and you can just go to Walmart like was already suggested." At this point, I was completely blown away, especially considering that at no point had I raised my voice or used profanity. I asked the distracted girl for her name as she continued to ring me up. The distracted girl completely refused to provide me with a name, so I named her "Distracted Girl" and took her picture. It seems like there are little to no standards for the employees at the front end. The fact that more than one of them suggested that I take my business to Walmart tells me they likely say it to other guests fairly routinely. It's just so disappointing. It's hard for people in these positions to make ends meet, and I completely understand. Customer service positions are often grueling and thankless. Having empathy and understanding of that fact is not something that is lost on me. I sincerely try to be thoughtful and reasonable when interacting with anyone in a customer service position. My experience tonight at Total Wine & More was an awful one, and it's disheartening because it's the one that is closest to our house. You can do better than this, Total Wine & More. Maybe make sure the Patron is fully stocked on a Friday. It's not like the weekend snuck up on you. And for the love of anyone who's ever suffered from a less-than-desirable nickname, make name tags a requirement. Maybe a "No cell phones while working the front" policy should be explored. read more

Having visited Paris, Normandy, and Provence years prior, I know that some French wines are glorious additions to a wine cellar -- but being ignorant of the best vineyards, bottling, and vintages, I've been reluctant to make purchases. That is, until I met Bill. Bill and I talked for a while and he recommended that I try a few. My quirk is that I'll buy an expensive wine that I'll give to someone as a gift, but have chosen to explore less expensive domestic wines bottled by new vintners. Odd? Yes... but the average American wine isn't blended for laying down long term in a cellar... and there are a lot of excellent wines that are drinkable now (or in the next few years). There are a number of new wineries in the western U.S. that are producing excellent wines at low cost to the consumer... and finding them requires luck, skill -- and encountering someone like Bill. Bill, who obviously knows his wines, said something that resonated well with me: eastern Washington wines are approaching a quality and value that will soon surpass most California wines' quality: I've believed that since 1983 -- though there are several wines from Napa Valley that I believe are the world's best. I come to this location often as it is close to my house and next to a lot of great places to eat. Occasionally after my wife and I want to have a drink after dinner or if we are entertaining friends, we will pop over to make a selection. The staff are very friendly, well-dressed, and professional and have made several recommendations to me which I have thoroughly enjoyed. They have a very large selection of specialty bourbons and have better prices on Makers Mark than I have seen at any grocery store or liquor store in the valley. They always have plenty of Hennessy, their tequila selection is second to none, and their selection of fine rums is the best you will find in the Arizona desert. An often overlooked aspect of Total Wine and More is their fantastic cigar selection. They have a full sized, walk-in, humidor completely packed with all the go-to cigars. Usually fully stocked with a majority of the cigars you will see on the Cigar Aficionado Magazine's top 25 of the year. I like the store and have been often. On several occasions, I found the shelf empty of a product I routinely buy. The people restocking were kind and helpful, but didn't know why the product was missing. I tried to discuss it with the cashier and she simply said, I'm sorry. No questions about which product, offers to speak to a manager, just a total lack of interest. Granted, it's a non-alcoholic product, but she had no way of knowing this because she didn't ask. Great service from everyone until we got to the cashier (blonde women) she didn't apply our discount and when we questioned we were met with massive passive aggressive responses. When asking if the six bottle discount was applied, it wasn't, she blabbled out 'you got a discount on a bunch of stuff' basically saying shut up. Nice new location out in Surprise. While it is more than a bit out of the way for me to shop here regularly this is a very nice store. The layout is considerably more open than other stores I have visited. I didn't notice an appreciably greater, more varied selection than other locations but that's fine: it still boasts a fine variety of wines and spirits to suit anyone's taste. We found the staff very willing to offer help while not constantly hovering. It was simply a quiet afternoon during a weekday so the ratio of associates to customers was high. When we did ask for the location of some Cabernet Franc several folks were happy to help. Checkout was also quick, friendly and efficient. Just attended a burgundy (French) tasting experience last night. Exceptional! Bill Gotti, wine educator extraordinaire, gave a 2 plus hour overview of the wines of the Burgundy region in France accompanied by four white and four red wines. If you get to attend an event like this in the future I recommend it enthusiastically. The presentation was extensive and abundant questions were asked and answered. Finally open in Prasada and ready to fill your cart. Parking lot is massive and no problem finding a space. Part of that may be some of the other shops aren't open, but either way I think the parking lot alone was set perfectly. Even the cart holders are a bit nicer looking frames with black metal to put your carts away like a good human. It's a very large store and set up identical to the one in Goodyear. Which made it so easy to find what I was looking for. The store was very clean, well stocked and I couldn't believe the amount of people in the store at 4pm. I'm guessing everyone is excited to not have to drive clear to another city for things anymore. Prices are great and I found all I was looking for for cheaper than other places nearby. Service while shopping was MIA and no one greeted us or said hello, but once at the checkout service was wonderful, friendly, helpful and I even was given two coupons for the next few days. read more

Been coming to this location 2 days before their Grand Opening. Their bourbon selection is very good, and priced well. When allocated bottles are in stock, they go super quick as they are not priced outside MSRP. Wine selection is vast as is the beer. I really enjoy total wine, I like all the stores, I enjoy the chain, I enjoy the selection, and have even been to some of their educational classes. I've also enjoyed the store particularly I've met some of the staff they're great today I went to buy four bottles of buffalo trace for holiday gifts. When I got there they had a sign that said one bottle per customer this perplexed me as I was just at Walmart over the weekend and they had cases and cases of Buffalo trace out with no limits, so I put my cart away drove to Walmart and bought gift bags four bottles of buffalo trace bitters, cherries, and all the fixings for old fashions. I wouldn't expect to go to Home Depot and only be able to buy one 2 x 4, so this was a real shocker that I couldn't buybuffalo trace when they clearly had any many bottles there read more

We came in over the weekend, beautiful new store. My one real critique would be the tall male cash register employee with glasses. His register light was on and he abruptly told us to go to another register (which happened to have guests in line) as we entered the "other" line he tells the guests behind us "I'll take the next person". Unfortunately in today's business it's hard to find qualified professionals and this employee shows it in spades! Not impressed with this employee, retraining him would be a step in the right direction, his customer service should be corrected before he sinks your profits. read more

I really like Total Wine and they're selection, I never failed to find some thing that I like but as far as the customer service and my experience as a customer, I probably will never return to this location. It's the holiday season and I'm trying to find gifts for my family and I had a girl help me find a bottle of wine which was very nice of her but then I still needed help finding something specific and I knew exactly what I wanted, I asked another gentleman where it was, and he just pointed me into a direction, and I couldn't find it anywhere, and they just stared at me while I tried to go find it myself, I'm really disappointed, and I feel really ashamed for even going into this location . every time a worker would pass me and see that I'm looking for something they would completely ignore me and go to someone else and I don't know if it's because I'm younger or what but I didn't feel like I was appreciated as a customer and like no one wanted to help me.needless to say I ended up leaving and not finding what I wanted because no one wanted to take the time to help me find it. read more

When I called the store later to inquire about why this happened I was met with even more rudeness, attitude, not even allowing me to speak etc. I was happy to have this new store in our area but will not be shopping here as I cannot tolerate the rudeness. First time in the store. Was excited because I've never been. the low rating is due to the manager rob coming up to us at the end while people from our group were checking out. my nephew was shopping with our group and I did not see the sign that he had to be 21 ( which is my fault) but while standing away from the people purchasing, the manager came and talked to me condescendingly and asking us all these questions. I replied with his age, told him we were all 30+ and he was with me and im responsible for him. the people checking out did not even have their ids checked and they were the ones purchasing. If the policy was explained or even when he was following us around the whole time (yeah it wasn't inconspicuous), he could have explained that and I would have understood and left. Choosing to to talk to me like I'm stupid after our group spent over $100 in the store is not a way to keep customers coming to a store that has only been open for a few months.
