Not my first time. Again with not allowing a customer to use their precious boxes that are stacked to the ceiling in the front of the store. Hey, Lukas Liquors was way better to begin with, let's just state that fact. Now we have a generic version of that full of employees chasing you around the store bothering you while you're trying to look at the booze. Then there's the boxes. I buy four bottles of whisky, easily $150 price range. I drive from two hours away to get here. I want a box to put my round bottles in so they won't roll around in the back of the car. They protect these boxes like they're gold. Borderline rude. It's against store policy, I've been told. On this visit, the guy said I could have a box. He selects a tiny little box without dividers and tries to cram four bottles of whisky on top of each other. Come on. Being a wise a$$ he says, "there we let you have a box". I urge corporate to address this issue. The only reason I came, was because I was in the area and wanted a rare bottle. A Total Wine rep may reply to this review stating: they hope they can do better next time. Don't reply unless you can fix the box issue. I'm spending money. I'm a customer. Give me a carton with partitions to get home. They're lying all over the front of the store. Train your employees so they at least know the store policy. read more

This is a pretty big store located in a nicer shopping area of big box stores. We visited in search of local beer and cider. The local beers were quite nicely organized with a broad variety of singles and packs, and my husband was easily able to assemble a six pack of new finds to try. He also found a pack of new imported marzen. The cider single section, however, was about half empty, and really disappointed me. I did find two to buy, at least. read more

Total wine is the perfect place to shop for anything that you need for hosting a weekend party, or just to restock your wine. We can always find everything we need, the prices are fantastic, and sometimes my husband can even find a specialty bourbon he's been looking for. The stores are spotless, and full of helpful staff. They also do tastings and you can pay to have a tasting event there too, which looks really fun! If you're in a hurry for your party, you can also pick up cheese, crackers, another various snacks which is very helpful. read more

So Total Wine and I started out strong. I was sad to see Lukas Liquor go, but Total Wine was here for me with decent deals, big inventory, and mostly friendly staff. I was happy, and coming here when I was in the area. About six months ago or so I went in to get a multi pack of beer and I was pretty excited to discover that they have a huge wall of inventory from all different breweries that put these multipacks together to choose from. I found one that sounded cool, brought it home, and as I was unloaded them into the fridge I noticed they were MONTHS expired. Now, I know that with beer sometimes that doesn't matter so much, but it does when it's an IPA, and I feel like it should be disclosed that you're purchasing an expired product. All of that being said, a few more months passed and I decided to be more vigilant. I guess I'll have to really check each time I buy beer here from here on out. What frustrates me is that this happened to me again on my last visit. This time I went for a local multi pack from Martin City and I couldn't find an expiration date anywhere on the outside packaging but I thought surely it won't happen again. How wrong I was. All of the beers were again MONTHS expired. To be honest I was super disappointed and a bit upset. Had I noticed in the parking lot I would have returned but it wasn't worth my gas to go back so we drank them despite some potential flavor being off and I'm now fully committed to checking expiration dates on everything I touch in this store. If I don't see one I won't be buying it or I might have to ask staff, or check in the parking lot. So the long and short of this is that it's a nice, big, clean store with massive inventory and good deals. You absolutely need to watch out for expiation dates as they will sell you months expired product. read more

We were greeted, assisted with our searches for Oliver's Apple wine, chocolate wine and minis! We also got some wines tastings in .. We've been going here a decade and a half, since before it was Total. Becoming Total was a complete step up! I was here today, the day before Thanksgiving, and had several tastings. The sparkling wine one by Carolyn was honestly a delight. She was informative, entertaining, and very clearly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject. She legitimately brightened my day- and, of course, influenced my purchasing decisions! She's a gem, if you sent out who was tasting when, I'd show up to see her every time! read more

This location is great. Has several different types of alcohol and wine to choose from. Additionally, the staff is very helpful and friendly. There's also tastings here during certain days of the week which is nice. I've done it once and I was pleased with the experience. I also want to give specific recognition to Tee as she informed me of the app which tracks rewards which I really appreciated. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. read more

This is a giant warehouse-sized liquor store, and that's great...IF you have a lot of time to search for the things you want (they do provide a map!), and even better if you know exactly what you want, and/or you love having a bajillion choices! I found it overwhelming, and felt like I needed a tour guide and an education in wine to shop there. They also have every kind of beer, liquor, liqueurs, champagne, wine coolers, hard seltzers, and just about everything you can possibly think of made with alcohol, and all of them, in every flavor under the sun! And at every price level. They also carry a few food items, mixers, RTD mixed alcoholic beverages, glassware, plastic ware, and just about any drinking or alcohol-related accessory you'd need, and many you don't! It was fine to explore...once. They will be starting classes soon. But I think they need more employees on the floor now to help bewildered and perhaps confused customers, including ones who were familiar with the previous liquor store there. Total Wine (250 locations in 27 states) recently replaced highly rated Lukas Wine & Spirits. After the renovations wrap up next year, they will offer a 40,000 sq ft sales area with more than 8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers. They will also offer a climate-controlled wine cellar, a walk-in humidor. and a wine education center with events. The store is open while renovations are underway. I liked the more plentiful staff, but I was not a fan of the higher prices. Overall, it's still a great store, but not as much of a value. read more

Outstanding selections and pricing. Customer service is great. Placed a pick up order for champagne, and I asked them to put it in the cooler for me, and my wine was perfectly chilled when I arrived! No need to go anywhere else, even if those places are closer. Liked them when they were Lucas Liquor, but I love them now! read more

1st visit to 'Total Wine'. Very impressed with the size, layout and organization of this business. We were overwhelmed when first entering which led us to an employee waiting by the front door to am sure answer questions. We were greeted by Brady and from there started our wine '101' class. Brady asked us preference and off we went down several aisles and with each stop, he gave a brief history and/or detailed facts about the different wines. We were amazed at his wine knowledge and were introduced to varieties we did not know existed. The shopping experience was informative and fun. Want to emphasize that Brady was not enticing or pushing any product or sale. He simply was guiding us to the right area(s) of the store that fit our wine requirements. My friend collects fine liquor and was an outstanding customer to your business. He has related his experience to me and several other of our friends. Had the absolute worst experience at this location. Asked for assistance from the manager Jim and was met with a very entitled and rude attitude, as if we were being bothersome asking for help. As we were checking out the employee who checked us out was short with us and rude about bagging up our things. Would avoid this location because the bad attitude of the employees will leave a bad taste in your mouth. read more

I was shopping Total Wine in Overland Park, KS yesterday. I found a bottle of Old Ezra 7yr. Barrel Strength I had been looking for. It was priced at $79.99. I searched for the MSRP online and found that it was $40. I also searched for it on other Total Wine websites and found that it was $35.99 everywhere else. I asked the manager about the price discrepancy, and he told me it was "just Kansas liquor pricing issues". I questioned him about Kansas pricing being over 2 times the price of other Total Wines and he just walked away without responding. Clearly the Overland Park store was price gouging this bottle and he didn't want to discuss or explain why. If you price check the difference between other Total Wine locations in the KC market, you will find the Overland Park is always more expensive. I will not be shopping the Overland Park store in the future. read more

Mix 12 selection of wines is extremely misleading. I bought 12 bottles and every tag indicated it was part of the Mix 12, however, when I got to checkout, not a single bottle was discounted according to the Mix 12. Cashier mumbled something about they were already the lowest prices. I should have just walked out. When I checked my receipt every bottle was higher than the original tag price. Won't be back. Shame, I've shopped Total in other states and never encountered this. read more

What a huge change from the layout and information provided previously in the Lucas store. Total Wine has gotten rid of all the independent rating service shelf tags (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, etc. - except of course they kept a few from Nothing Sucks Suckling). Additionally, they got rid of the section they used to have that had 20+ wines rated 90+ or above and they don't have the Staff Picks anymore. Eliminating these things is not only a disservice to their Customers, but it also may very well reduce sales per Customer. I used to try lots of wines based on the reviews that I wouldn't have known anything about. Additionally, they had knowledgeable wine folks that worked there that I'd consult with if I wanted to pair wine with a particular meal - the Lucas folks knew their wine and would always provide a few good options. Too bad, I'll stop going here and go somewhere local where they care about the Customer and provide service and education. read more
