My first favorite thing about this place is that they collect tab tops to benefit Ronald McDonald Houses! So please collect your tabs from any aluminum cans, including pet food, canned goods, etc., and take them there, as the houses do derive funding from them! My other favorite thing is that they have a wide selection of many different wines (well organized and clearly labeled by type), liquors, and spirits of all sorts, and a MASSIVE selection of beers, also clearly organized by type. The refrigerated section is huge. And many of the prices are better than in other liquor stores! AND they have great Sunday hours! Plus, the staff are friendly and helpful. I enjoy just looking around because there are so many interesting varieties, specialty bottles, and labels, and the beer/hard ciders/canned sparkling beverage packaging is a riot of color and design! They also have options I haven't seen in other stores, and a lot of airline-size bottles and shots to choose from. Also some THC-infused beverages and gummy products. read more

This by far the worst liquor store I've experienced in the Johnson County area. The items that I feel are supposed to be bottom shelf are over priced. A very limited selection of vodka, and bourbon. I couldn't find any of the brands of vodka I was looking for,band the staff seemed very indifferent. read more

I like the Beer Cave. They have a good variety of things to pick from and are typically very helpful. The store is always clean and lacks the stale cigarette smell I've noticed in many other local liquor stores. As someone who recently moved from Missouri I am still salty about having to make an extra stop to pick up wine and real liquor. This place makes it feel a like a little less of a burden. read more

One of my friends from college heard from his friends back home in Lenexa talking up Beer Cave Wine and Spirits. They hyped it up beyond belief, and sensing my friends interest pique, they sold the hell out of the story. They told him that it was a literal, carved out cave that developers didn't know existed, but that it was one of a kind.. A true destination, the coolest, most unimaginable liquor store with all the beers you could dream of, and it became an obsession for him to see it when he got back home. He finally got a weekend to go home and when he went into the "cave," a strip-mall liquor store off of the busy 87th street, the first thing he noticed that their cave is essentially a small to moderately sized walk in fridge. He was pissed! It became a long running joke and I can't help but think of it every time I drive by. I finally got to venture into the cave myself, and it's a solid liquor store. The craft beers are compartmentalized by type; an IPA fridge, Pilsner fridge, etc. although they didn't always match up. The walk-in cave appeared to be more for the bigger commercial beers. They were friendly here and had perfectly sized carts to use that came in handy as I picked up beers for an event. Nice little place, even if it lacks the wow factor of a carved out cave! read more

First time here and wished I lived closer to this place. The prices are $2 cheaper in most bottles I find in midtown. They have so much beer here. I'm sure whatever beer you like or want to find will be here. As I walked in I thought wow they have a good selection of wine, and sadly they didn't have my favorite port. So in actuality they have a good selection for simple wine drinkers or beginners but for those who have been drinking a lot and tend to go for the unique brands and flavors, you probably won't find it here. What I did like is there many flavors of a number of brands. Some flavors I didn't even know existed are here such as pineapple and coconut in some brands. A walk in cooler for beers which happen to be too cold for me right now so I walked pass. Another cute thing, they have a clearance basket of whatever they are getting rid of at a good prices. Tuesday is 10% off all wine. I say that's a win. I will be back maybe on Tuesday. read more

Who doesn't love a liquor store that's open on a Sunday til 8?! This place is well organized and carries a nice variety of wines (and other alcohols, but I went for the vino)- lots of high rated ones too. The staff is courteous to boot. read more

The Beer Cave has a great name; someday I hope to have a beer cave of my very own. This particular Beer Cave is an Overland Park Liquor Store just west of the Central Johnson County Library. They have a big walk-in cooler with a very good beer selection. I don't drink a ton of beer but I've never failed to find what I was looking for, not to mention some things I had never seen. Apart from the beer selection, this is a pretty crappy store. Not a lot of wines to choose from and certainly not much in the Liquor department either. Moreover the employees don't really know anything about liquor. During my last visit, the cashier insisted that vermouth was cooking wine and sort of discouraged me from making cocktails with it. I assured her that I knew what I was doing. They also had no idea what bitters were (and don't carry them). Still, the people are very friendly. It's a great place to pick up a sixer. read more

I think that obviously that places like MDL are where you want to go for an amazing selection, but if you need a better selection than your supermarket, but not as great as a Metcalf Discount Liquor, come here. You'll get decent selection and smiling service. read more

A liquor store is a liquor store, right? Wellll, yes & no. For some reason, this store just seems VERY user friendly!!!! It could be the way everything is set up ... or the selection of beer, wine & liquor ... or the laid back attitude of the staff. Regardless, it's just fun going into this liquor store. A major plus: this is a perfect spot to shop for liquor, & then take it over to ABC Cafe Dim Sum Chinese restaurant (literally right next door). The 2 work perfect together! For a somewhat small establishment, they carry some far-out stuff (peanut butter vodka, called "Nut Liquor"? Yes please!) I plan on coming more often, & will update with pictures on what I buy to go with my spicy Dim Sum dishes. Ahhhh, the adventures await on those pairings! read more

I'm giving two stars because there is one young gentleman that works the cashier who is one of the nicest guys I've met and so helpful. Outside of him, the staff here is extremely rude to the point of every time I ask any question, I am given short abrupt answers accompanied with "I could care less" stares. Also, they have a customer request box, requested that the barefoot spritzer four pack be refrigerated. Side note: I buy a four pack at least every other night omw home. I never saw my request fulfilled and asked the manager lady about it and was told she couldn't bc her fridges are totally full and out of room...meanwhile I'm staring at the HUGE cave with lots of room for more beverages. It's just silly. Customer service is a biggie for me, especially when there's 100 other liquor stores within a ten mile radius that offer the same product and in many cases offer more variety. read more

Beer Cave is a perfectly adequate little liquor store that will meet most of your beer and wine needs. It's not that much fun to go to on a cold day since you're essentially shopping for beer in the refrigerator (giving the store the name, the refrigerator is the beer cave). Their beer selection is kind of spotty, they don't have the room to carry everything and what they do carry isn't what I would have chosen. Some really great beers are missing from their selection and they don't have a great selection of bombers. read more

Went to Beer Cave early in the week and found out that they were going to have Blvd Chocolate Ale on Friday. Drove across town and stood in the rain to get a ticket to buy one bottle at over inflated price of $25 per bottle. Came back at 1pm as instructed and they said the truck didn't come in yet but would be in later in the day. I then came back to the store at 3:30 and they told me that they sold all the bottles. I will never, ever, go to Beer Cave again, even when they have their going out of business sale. They suck. read more

Do not even think about going here if it is a quarter to closing or sooner, the doors will be locked. Some of their employees will lecture you about drinking, and even suggest places to get help. Their prices are higher than the one down the street too. read more

I went in here searching for a good beer and found out that they sell single bottles so I decided to pick up a couple. The guy at the counter was very nice and recommended some beers for me. Not a place I would do business with as they don't get it. Some of the guys in our office learned that they would have the Boulevard Chocolate Ale for sale on Friday. They gave out tickets for the 72 bottles they were to receive. I was number 42. The price was $25.00 vs. the normal $8.99, first indication that they were taking advantage and not customer oriented. They requested you to pick up the beer by 3:00, being they would have delivery around 11:00am. Per their instruction returned around 1:15pm to pick-up the beer, delivery truck had not arrived requested we come back. Delivery came at 1:30pm, we returned at 3:30 and they decided to go ahead and sell what wasn't picked up. What the hell? Were they really concerned they would be stuck with the stuff? Why not wait until at least 5:00pm since the truck was 2 hours late? Pretty crappy business model. And yes the owner was (mis)handling this whole ordeal!
