We planned, prepped and placed our very detailed order two weeks in advance of our planned event. Apparently, they only have one chef and NO BACK UP PLAN. Chef was "sick" and they canceled on is with only 24 hours notice. Totally unprofessional! If you plan on booking with Dash of Salt, make sure you have a Plan B. You never know when they may cancel on you.

From the first time I got in touch with her, Chef Aless was always prompt with her responses - as it was my first time ever doing anything like this, she helped curate a menu for my husband and I based on our likes/dislikes. I had also gone back to her to switch up a couple items, which she had no problem with either - really appreciate the flexibility! On the day of, she came by a bit early (which was a non-issue for us considering we were idling by at home), and was very efficient as soon as she stepped in - we were served some delicious hors d'oeuvres (fig and brie crisps were divine!), an appetizer (truffle burrata and arugula, with a delicious pomegranate molasses dressing), second course (crab cakes with mango slaw, always a favorite in my book), main course (a perfectly medium rare Pat LaFrieda steak), some sides (a decadent sauce for the steak, creamed spinach and potatoes lyonnaise; if you coudln't tell, we wanted to replicate the NYC steakhouse experience), and lastly, chocolate mousse for dessert (needless to say, it was amazing). And best of all, she left the kitchen spotless, which was much appreciated. I also want to note that it's important to clarify what you're looking for when hiring a private chef, especially as a first timer (like me) - I thought Chef Aless was going to cook everything from start to finish at our apartment, however she actually came by with everything mostly prepared, and left the finishing touches for last. Granted, not everyone has a fully equipped kitchen so I totally understand her coming pre-prepped, but considering my husband and I both love cooking and have a nearly fully-equipped kitchen, we would've loved to see her in action and use the opportunity to pick up some pro-tips. All in all, Chef Aless was an absolute pleasure to work and speak with, and I'm so happy to have found her. If indoor dining is still closed off in the future, I will definitely be keeping her in mind for more special occasions.

At every turn, she kept us energized, positive and excited while also keeping us on track. Quite frankly, our wedding would not have been possible without her. She was the perfect curator, cheerleader and creative partner. Roey understood and expanded on our vision in countless thoughtful ways along the epic journey. She helped us source, communicate, and partner with a cadre of all-star vendors. Working seamlessly to interface between the two of us, our vendors and our venue. We lost track of how many calls, emails and design meetings we had over the years, but she brought the same level of kindness, patience and attention to every single conversation. When the weekend of our wedding finally arrived, Roey and her entire team made magic and moved mountains. The team brought a level of unprecedented professionalism and understated showmanship to every element of the fête. PLEASE save yourself a lot of time and trouble and look elsewhere. Our experience with Roey was…read moreextremely frustrating. Over the two months that we were in touch with her, Roey consistently failed to communicate in anything remotely resembling a timely manner, citing every excuse under the sun. Here are some examples: 1. It was her birthday so her texts were delayed (?) 2. Her e-mail wasn't receiving messages (3 times) 3. Her e-mail wasn't receiving OR delivering messages (2 times) 4. Her website was down 5. She "lost" my fiancee's e-mail 6. Her phone wasn't delivering text messages (4 times) 7. Her assistant was supposed to take care of it 8. She was at a funeral 9. She was unexpectedly having a root canal You will notice that not a single one of these excuses has anything to do with her professional career. We know that wedding planners are busy and had Roey told us she was working an event or was tied up in preparations for another wedding, that would have been 100% acceptable. However, while we are also extremely understanding of the occasional personal emergency and chalked it up to a fluke the first few (!) times Roey failed to get back to us for personal reasons, we quickly started to run out of patience. After a pretty constant battle on my fiancee's part and a lot of very delayed, long-winded, and rather bizarre "explanatory" e-mails in response, Roey ultimately provided us with zero usable vendors. Everything we booked while under contract with Roey, we found ourselves. Needless to say, we terminated said contract. On July 19th she agreed to refund our $2500 deposit. On August 14th, after five e-mails from my fiancée as well as several text messages, we still hadn't received our money back. Guess what? Her assistant was supposed to take care of it. THEN apparently fraud was detected on her account and she had to cancel the check. However, as soon as we began to file with small claims court, (with the support of our lawyer who wholeheartedly agreed that we had a cut and dry case) the check was immediately "in the mail and on its way," though it still didn't make it to us for another ten days, FIVE WEEKS after we initially asked for it back. Here's the thing: a wedding planner's primary job is to make your life easier. Roey will not do that. We switched to Starling on Bond and they have been ten thousand times more helpful in the two weeks we've been working with them than in the two months we wasted with Roey. Please save your money and your sanity and trust someone else with your big day!
