First, the pizza was quite good, the "Gianfranco Special." - Here's the downside: When we came in, we sat on the left side of the establishment with table settings. We were greeted kindly and handed menus. We immediately noticed that the prices seemed unusally high, even for pizza items on the menu. - So, I walked 6 feet to the right, to the "takeout" focused area to compare. - The menu items are the same on both sides, but the prices are 30% higher on the left side with table service. All the food comes from the same place, just six feet away, but 30% higher for table servcie. Plus, one would then feel obligated to tip the waiter. Add another 15%. -- We opted to move to the takeout sider and ordered the Special pie at $24.95 ($32.95 on the left side). -- It gets a bit more weird: On checking out, I was told the total was "$32.96"! - Wait a minute, we had the Special pie at $24.95 and one bottle of soda, I said. "The soda is $3 and with tax the total is $32.96" he said. - (That would be 18% sales tax!?) - Just not good business practices here. Also, felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. An old school pizzeria on Grassland's Road with a deli attached. I have been coming here for years and counter people are always friendly and helpful. The inside of the pizzeria is like traveling back in time in a good way. Very clean but the place has a retro feel to it. Angelo always treats his patrons like family and has gained a cult following in the area. Gianfranco's makes amazing food and pizza. The veal parm is as good if not better than any high end Italian restaurant. The pizza has a very thin crust complimented by a flavorful sauce. The tuna slice is apparently renowned throughout the tristate. I don't like tuna so I have never tried it. I definitely recommend Gianfranco's. This place has been around forever for a reason. Another wonderful lunch. Got a fabulous slice of tuna pizza and some items to go. Tuna pizza was delicious, extremely crunchy crust, nice ripe tomatoes and just perfect. I took home a chicken and cheese roll, A chicken marsala roll, and one of the garlic knot Panini sandwiches. The Chicken roll and Marsala roll were excellent, nice and cheesy crunchy outside and doughy inside. The garlic knot chicken cutlet Panini was excellent with the mozzarella and wonderful garlic olive oil flavor. It's always a nice experience there. I've been coming here for years when I went to college up the road. GianFranco Pizza is definitely one of the best I've ever had. But most importantly they have thee very best Caprese salads I cannot find anyone who has a salad as good as theirs. I will literally drive from Queens just for their salad. Also the Gian Franco deli next door is pretty elite. I highly recommend the pastrami with Russian dresssing, coleslaw, and Swiss or the Italian. read more

My wife and I stopped in tonight for some sandwiches and fries. We sat away from the pizzeria area because it was busy. The waitress and the hostess or manager were very pleasant and accommodating. We were given menus, but explained that we would just like to have a meatball parm. hero and a chicken parm. hero with fries. We were not told that if you sit in the "Dining Room" the sandwiches would be $3 more each because of where we sat. The one order of fries was $10.95 $2 more than in the pizza area. (I have never seen fries priced that high). We had 3 domestic beers (Coors Light) which were $6 each. $55 for 2 sandwiches, fries, and 3 beers before taxes and tip.( In a pizzeria). We should have been told that if we ordered at the pizza counter and sat in that room we could have saved $8 on the food, and who knows how much on the beer. read more

I've had both at Gianfrancos and they are good, but once I had the tuna slice, that's all i get! They make it fresh everytime. Second review of Gianfranco. I am a big fan of the tuna pizza, and this time was as delicious as it always is. However, this time, I discovered that they have 12-inch pizzas for about 15 bucks, 16 with tax. Life-changing. However, this time I experimented with some different items on the menu: lasagna, mussels, and garlic knots. The garlic knots were tasty, and their sauce is always on point, but this time the garlic knots came out excessively greasy. When you bite into it, it feels like it's soaked. I love me some butter, but it was a bit too much. The mussels were good, but slightly on the over-cooked side of things, perhaps. It was very firm. The lasagna was slightly disappointing. The top layer of cheese was its saving grace. The sauce was a bit bland and the pasta a bit soggier than I prefer my lasagna to taste. read more

So my wife goes to get her hair done and the conversation among the hairdressers is about this wonderful tuna pizza that they just ordered. The pizza arrives looking good while it lasts. Turns out the pizzeria is five minutes from us so we decide to give it a try the next Saturday night. We are big fans.... Ordered three consecutive weekends the pizza was consistently excellent. Neatly prepared - the lettuce and tomatoes layered perfectly - the tuna tastefully done. At $28 one might think expensive - it's not. There's plenty going on here and its worth every penny. In addition everyone here is friendly and appreciative of your business as they thank you on your way out. Hey - These little things matter. They want their customers happy and their product proves it. Having said that we havn't tried their other selected pies.
