You may have never thought that there was a Mexican restaurant themed completely after the Wizard of Oz, but you'll think again after stepping foot in this adorable little restaurant! We ate here right before visiting the Oz Museum. They've got everything from tacos to burritos to nachos, everything with some sort of theme stemming from the movie. This is a fun eatery companion to the Oz Museum. And the food is delicious! You'll love the decor, though the palm trees are a bit confusing. Check out the bathroom decor. Staff was super friendly and accommodating to dietary needs. Pretty busy for lunch between Christmas and New Years, which can be a slow time. Chicken tortilla soup was the bomb! Let me tell you we walk into a Taco place in Wamego, KS and man did I keep my expectations low. What does a small town like this know about Tacos? Okay, you may serve me my CROW TACO, NOW! This place was amazing, Up there with some of the best I have tried in major cities if not better. We stopped here on a road trip from Massachusetts to Nevada , we wanted to stop in Kansas to see the Wizard of Oz attractions , and found this place. Why Yes, Toto...we are still in Kansas! O.K what Toto and Tacos have to do with one another...I have no idea, but in Wamego...they are trying anything to play on the Wizard of Oz theme. Which is fine with me.It was a nice break from fast food. This is a small taqueria with a fresh Mex style menu items which include "Munchkins Tacoz" for the kids to "Bust my Buttons" burritos.They have some great pico de gallo and guacamole to go with boring tortilla chips. Toto's Tacoz also features local wizard of Oz. paintings and murals in a mexican restaurant. (Kinda weird mix).I thought the food was pretty good and so did my family. Right next door to the Oz Museum, and you'll see billboards for that all along I-70, Toto's Tacoz made our detour to Wamego even more wonderful. We had really flavorful Mexican food in the heart of Kansas, and surprise, surprise, we could even get a Mexican beer to go with it. It's a tiny place--basically an order window with a couple of tables inside and a small patio outside. Everything is to go and is served in plastic to-go boxes, utensils are plasticware, and the ambience is colorful kitcsh (e.g., there's a great ceiling painting of Dorothy hanging on to Toto as he's being pulled out of the house during the cyclone...he's already lost his sombrero!). A few days ago I saw a sign advertising a restaurant called Toto's Tacoz and since then it has been on my mind to make it back to visit. I was not disappointed. I tried the Yellow Brick Burrito which was meat, beans and rice in a tortilla with cheese and salsa on top. I got chicken as my meat and this was such a flavorful burrito! There were so many flavors going on I didn't expect it to all work together as well as it did. My grandmother got an order of Uncle Henry's Nachos to share with my younger brother who decided he would rather eat my chips and guacamole so I shared his portion of the nachos and they were also delicious! The meat was perfectly seasoned and they put cheese on layers throughout the chips! The flavors are slightly different from your every day Mexican but that's what is interesting--it's a fun restaurant with great food! I hope to make it back sometime! read more

We stumbled in here after the Oz Museum - the way so many do, I'm sure. It was quaint, with a fun blend of Mexican, bright colors, Kansas icons, and Wizard of Oz decorations melded together. The service was fantastic - as it should be coming from the owner. In fact, if it wasn't the owner, I'd be surprised. He cared too much to be hired help. The food was pretty darn good for small town Kansas. We had carnita tacos (I think) and added on rice and beans. (Uploaded a pic if you want to scroll through them.) We got plenty of food for a reasonable price. I have Celiac Disease and get really ill if I eat anything with gluten in it. I was super worried driving through Kansas about finding food and came to terms that I would be hungry for the day. We went to the Oz Museum and saw this down the street, I figured I might as well just ask if they had anything gluten free (GF) that I could have. When I first walked in I was greeted with a warm smile and a hello! I instantly felt welcomed. I asked about the GF options and was surprised when the guy said yes! I could have almost everything on the menu that didn't have flour tortillas. If it had a flour tortilla, I could substitute it for a corn one. I got the burrito bowl and it was absolutely delicious! The meat was so flavorful! I'm not a huge rice person, but really enjoyed their rice. Everything was decently priced! The decor in here is very adorable (kind of like a Oz on a beach vacation). The guy behind the counter joked along with us and even offered suggestions on what to get. My mom and I both ordered supreme veggie nachos. At a whopping price of $24 for both of us, it was worth EVERY dollar. The plate was 12in in diameter of nachos loaded with fresh veggies and warm cheese sauce. We stopped in Wamego on a cross-country road trip about 14 years ago. It was a blazing hot day, our A/C was broken, and we took a short detour to the Wizard of Oz Museum... and there was Toto's Tacoz right next door. We stopped in for a bite, and it was delicious! My wife is a vegetarian, so we really appreciated the excellent veggie options. Cozy little place and the perfect stop on a long drive... we liked it so much that 14 years later we still talk about it! When I asked for my green salsa the lady reprimanded me " You need to ask for it when you order!!" Sorry lady it was my 1st time here, I didn't know. I didn't appreciate that tone of voice either. I ordered the street tacos plate came with a small side of rice. Temperature was luke warm. Husband had the chicken enchiladas tasted very bland. My son had chicken quesadilla, that was ok. Their food wasn't what we expected. Not real Mexican. For all three meals and 3 bottled drinks came out to $48. For the type of service and quality of food we were not satisficed at all. This place is fun and cute and slightly kitschy and just good. in the near-decade I've lived in KC, I've always wanted to make the trek to Wamego to see the Oz museum, and heard that Toto's Tacoz was a must-visit. We ate beneath a large beach mural, and noticed partway through that there is a surfboard painted, very tiny, with a little Cairn Terrier riding it! Food was enormous portions, and prepped fresh in front of you by charming, friendly employees. We got Yellow Brick Road burritos, which come with lots of golden gringo cheese sauce. Delicious. We are a local family who have very much enjoyed Toto's Tacos several times since we moved here five years ago. The food is good and the customer service is outstanding. However. Thanks to the newish 11-5 hours, we are almost completely unable to make another return trip, which sucks because we all miss it. We were so glad we did! The food here is fantastic! There are so many things to rave about at Toto's Tacoz! First thing was the decor. It was adorable and was a continuation of our OZ theme day. They have like 30 Toto's hidden around the restaurant. Our granddaughter loved looking for them all and so did we. The place is extremely clean. Now on to the food! It is 2am where I am at and all I can think about is Toto's Tacoz and how I want more food from there. The food is so good it will haunt you! Everything was fresh!! Freshly made salsas in different heats. Fresh guac. Fresh cilantro... I got a beef taco. Husband got a burrito, and our little one got a quesadilla. We hardly spoke at lunch because we were too busy eating! Every bite was delicious!! They should sell their Salsa it is so good! I just can't say enough about this place. And lastly the owners are so friendly and inviting! We enjoyed talking to them. It was like talking to old friends! This place could be in any large city and the prices would be 3 times what they charge and the line would be out the door! Obviously this is home to them and they are happy being a part of OZ! Toto's is a true gem. This little spot doesn't look like much but they are fantastic. The employees are so welcoming and friendly, they all have great attitudes and provided excellent service. The food is great too. The chicken tostada salad was fresh and filling with just enough spice and the fish tacos were surprisingly good as well. I'd highly advise you to keep moving on and not stop at totos tacos. The food tastes very processed. Nothing seems freshly prepared. If you order chips and salsa, they open a bag of tostitos and put it in a basket. Nothing is freshly prepared--tastes as if they opened a jar and warmed everything. My friend and I each got seperate things-- she two tacos (beef and chicken) and I got a "yellow brick road chicken burrito. Both entrees were what you could do at home.
