Great queso dip, great sunken burritos I love the small private atmosphere

I got an order for takeout . I expected them to be a "mexican" restaurant just like they advertise, but their food was nothing i'd even consider close to authentic or anywhere near "mexican". The owners. They are overpriced for the amount of food they give you and on top of that, the food was just plain gross. I watched the guy microwave my enchilada in a casserole dish then transfer it to a container and throw sauce on it. I'm sorry, i just can't complain enough about this place. If you want real mexican food, then i suggest going somewhere else, like "mexico" or somewhere near the borders for the good stuff. I've yet to find good Mexican food out here. read more

Great hidden gem in Laurel. Used to be a Tippy's Taco House and still has a lot of the original items on the menu. Staff are always super friendly. The place looks original, but the food is amazing! read more

It's obvious some employees or family members are writing some of the reviews. I can think of no other reason this place rates stars. I have eaten all over the world, and recently relocated from San Antonio. This was beyond a doubt the most dismal, worthless meal I have had in 10 years. With only 5-6 other patrons in a dive designed to hold 50, it took 10-15 minutes to take our order...should have listened to the inner voice. But we kept holding out hope that we had found authentic food. Five minutes later, we were presented with our traditional chips...4 cold unprepared corn tostada shells parsed out from the warehouse packaging and doled out 1-apiece to each of us (they needn't have bothered). Actually saw them prepping some other group's chips while I was paying. After another 15 minutes we received what seemed to be, from all appearances, texture and consistency to be re-microwaved frozen burritos. The "lucky" one of our group received what can only be described as an airline meal, which also had been microwaved. I can honestly state in all fairness, that for mexican food, they served the best Mountain Dew I had in the last two days. Would grant a star for that, but am afraid it might move the average upward. Noted they serve beer. Perhaps beer and bail bonds might be more what they are capable of providing. Omg!!!! This place is nasty as shit! I'd rather eat dried gum of the street. Chip aren't fresh, taco salad was weak, sunkin burrito was more like a sunkin turd!!! Stay away from here. A side from that, please update the old ass interior; better yet... Spend that money on better food. read more

You know the saying of "don't judge a book by its cover "? This place fits that. Toucan Taco has a long and storied history that includes its guacamole, queso, and sunken burritos. No, this place does not have a bunch of frills. What it does have is some really good comfort Mexican food, a wonderful staff, and beer on tap. Check them out! read more

Let me preface this by saying I've only eaten here a handful of times and while the dining room is passable (you have chairs and tables), the food is what they do well. Sunken burrito was good but the Chili Con Caso (sp?) is DA BOMB!! Get you some chips, a large CCC to go and you won't be sorry. That's whats up. read more

Anyone who has ever tasted real Mexican food would agree that this is not it. I was thinking that I am in a Taco Bell wannabe the entire time we were there. Then I learned that the place used to be a "taco" fast food chain which explains the "out of the can" taste of everything. In addition, our little girl got sick after eating there. came in this place looking for a mexican restaurant, and good quality mexican food. What I found was an empty place (probably because the time of day), shotty and dusty decor.. I ordered food for take out. whilst standing waiting for my order at the counter, I could see the cook making my food, heating it up nicely in the microwave.. THIS IS NOT OK...He used the microwave for everything. The meat for my taco, the beans, the rice, the enchilada.. It was really gross tasting and even worse because i saw how it was prepared. I will definately NEVER step foot in there again no matter how loyal people seem to be, and by word of mouth, I am sure to NOT recomend this place to anyone. you get better quality mexican food from a taco truck.. Tippy's - Yes it's a dive, yes it's pricey, but the staff is awesome and the food is yummy!! I'm hooked on the Cheese Enchiladas. I have been eating here since 1979. I remember Lily and Bob working there and the daily soap opera that was intertwined with good food, some music for crying out loud, and many other younger people that would pack the place at night. Hasn't changed much since then but, ownership needs to wake up and look at who is walking thru the doors. I was young and single when I first entered the doors of what was then Tippy's Taco House in 1979. I am well, much older now and so are the vast majority of customers I see at Toucan Taco these days. A little music wouldn't hurt to cover up the sounds coming from the old farts that still come there after all these years ( I could swear 98 rock or some similar radio station was always playing in the old days), some new tables and chairs ( they make chairs with arms on them these days!) and, you could donate the old stacking chairs to the local VFW, finally pull the wood paneling off the walls and put some fresh items on the menu including fresh salads. Would it kill you to at least expand the beer and wine list? Liqueur as in Margarita, the most popular mixed drink in america! I am still a fan but, I am a business owner and realize change is good. And, cash is even better. Hey, breaking news. There is empty space next door for expansion, God Forbid business should pick up. Us old customers aren't going to be around that much longer. read more

Hold on to your hats and pants ladies and gentlemen because this review is a doozy. First of all the food was ridiculously overpriced for the sizes. I paid 105 dollars for food for 8 and everything looks like store bought food straight from the freezer aisle. They did not cook any of the food and just microwaved it. The Macaroni and cheese is literally Kraft! Not exaggerating. It's Kraft. Not to mention the fact that half of the orders were either incomplete, wrong or just not there! We were missing 3 con quesos from our order. Also, the staff is extremely rude. I tried ordering over the phone and before i could get two words out the guy, Daryl, cut me off and told me to just come in. And when i got there they were very loud and obnoxious. The cashier rushed me with the order and when two ladies came in to order, he brushed them off and ignored them until they left. 5 minutes after eating the food i had to go straight to the bathroom. Talk about s*** food! Overall the food is absolutely horrible and I completely advise against ever getting food from here. You have been warned. read more
