The food is always good, but they do have rotating menus so make sure to check that before you go and it's always good to call ahead to make sure you get a reservation or check if it is busy as it is a smaller establishment. 10/10 from me! We thought Tousey House Tavern was fantastic for lunch. There were five of us with a 12:30 reservation on a Wednesday. The place was hopping! We sat upstairs. The building is beautiful as is the interior. There are lots of little rooms and the tables are pretty tight. It was a bit difficult for wait staff to get around, but the service was still attentive. Two of us ordered the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich w/ fries. That darn sandwich was delicious!! It was sticky as all get out, but it was delicious! I'll apologize now; my pic is so blurry I hesitate to post it, but I'm going to anyway. The other person having the Pork Tenderloin also enjoyed it. Mark ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown. He said it was loaded with ham and it was salty. He finished every bite, but he did say he wouldn't order it again. One person loved her Cod (she didn't eat the bread) and another said the shrimp and grits were very good. The menu has lots of options. I mentioned we would be happy to come back sometime for dinner. We bought some chocolate cookies (they are by the hostess podium) on the way out. They had a nice chocolate and salt flavor, but should have had more chips. read more

I loved the overall feel of this historic building, was visiting from Colorado and I truly felt like I was getting a little bit of Kentucky history. The service was excellent. We ordered the beet salad, the beets were nice and crisp and delightful, we also had the crab cakes and I liked the accompanied sauce it gave it a good punch. For entrees we ordered the chicken thighs with the mushroom risotto and the shrimp and grits. Both were so very good, had plenty to take home. Wonderful dinner. Cherish was our server, and she was friendly, professional and very attentive ( in fact when we were leaving, she asked if there was anything else she could have done to make our experience better...who does that? The consummate professional). After ordering a bottle of wine, we ordered the crab cakes and pretzel for our appetizers--each was excellent, tasty and filling. For my side, I upgraded to a Caesar salad, which was excellent. I was full by then and unable to take even a bite of my mahi mahi ( which is sitting in the refrigerator). My husband ordered the halibut with a side of coleslaw, which he said was light and yummy. He took some home as well, and unfortunately we were too full to even look at a dessert menu. Came by after a Reds game. It was around 530pm. We sat at the bar and chatted up the lively bartender. There were a few folks already there for early meals. Ambiance is really old house with quite a lot of history apparently. We got a rigged Vesper and a Kentucky Sunrise. We parked right in front in the street. He put white wine in my Vesper there no Lillet. It was surprisingly good. My wife liked her Sunrise which is a gin drink. The bean soup was excellent. I got the chicken thighs my wife got a half fried chicken. The thighs were good not great. My wife enjoyed her chicken. Our barkeep said they were the best dishes in the place. We celebrated a friend's birthday with a late lunch here at the Tousey House on Thursday 6/4/26. We were immediately greeted with a hospitable smile making us feel right at home. My daughter knew the hostess and their conversation continued to make our visit special. Our server, of whom I can remember her name shame on me, was outstanding! She was warm, attentive and well informed. She hustled to bring our drinks and food without hesitation. The food was presented with care in mind. And all the food served was outstanding. Very tasty. There wasn't a lot of room, but when we sat down at our table we felt so far away from each other because the table was long. Also, we sat at a table against the wall and the table was on an incline (you could feel and see that we were sitting at an angle). Other than that the food was great. Perfect for a Valentine's Day brunch, it's in such a cute historic home in downtown Burlington. We were seated upstairs immediately and they had the place decorated in a cute, festive way. Our server was really sweet, our food came out so quick. We ordered the lobster ravioli, the filet mignon, Cesar salad, crème brûlée, and Swiss chalet cake. Went here today for brunch. We made an Open Table reservation (I recommend that as they get pretty busy), so we were seated promptly. We chose patio seating because it was such a gorgeous day. Their brunch menu is quite nice, but I spied their fried chicken. It takes about 15 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Made to order, crispy and hot...and delicious. Mine came with home fries (instead of mash potatoes) and a salad. The service was quick, without being pushy, and the food was great. It was a little pricier than expected but not outrageous. One of my favorite meals I've ever had and quite possibly the best chicken I've ever had! I'm already dreaming about when I get to come back here. Our server was great, and the service was quick. We sat on on the patio and it was nice and peaceful. We started with the Deviled Eggs and Fried Green Tomatoes. They were both great but the Fried Green Tomatoes were the star of the show. They were topped with a cream cheese mousse that was absolutely delicious. For an entree I got the Chicken Thighs. This dish was out of this world, and officially one of my favorite things I've ever eaten. Even with the bourbon-shallot cream on top, the chicken skin stayed crispy. The mushroom risotto was perfectly cooked, which is saying a lot since I rarely order risotto that is properly cooked. I also got mashed potatoes as my side which were also great! I cannot rave enough about the Chicken Thigh entree though. It's most definitely one of the best things I've ever eaten. I was stuffed but I couldn't pass up on Crème Brûlée which is my favorite dessert. It was amazing as everything else! Overall I was extremely impressed. We went to the Tousey House Tavern for dinner for the first time a week or so ago. We were there a little early for our table so it was not ready yet and we went in and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender made me a Tousey Manhattan and the hubby had a Fat Tire Amber Ale. The Manhattan was boozy and good! I switched gears at dinner and had a rum punch. Probably the best rum punch I have ever had so I had another. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer, they were on the small side but tasty and it could have used a little more of the remoulade sauce. They also brought out bread with a nice soft butter. For dinner I ordered the filet mignon that is served with BLT risotto and topped with a bourbon butter and crispy onion straws. He also told me I got two sides with that which it really doesn't say that on the menu but I was happy to have them. I ordered the hot slaw and the mashed potatoes. The filet was perfectly cooked medium rare, the sides were delicious, the only thing I didn't care for was the risotto it had something that was slightly sweet and I just didn't like it. Very good meal. My hubby had the Pork Po Boy and really enjoyed it. Of course I had to go for the creme brulee for dessert because it is my favorite! This one was a little dark on the sugar and a little thin on the custard but I still ate all of it. We had a very nice time and we will likely go back here again. read more

Everyone here is super friendly. The staff even indulged me when I asked if the restaurant was haunted... and they said "it is!!!" They told us a few personal stories of hauntings and gave us the history of this 200 year old restaurant. They even let us walk around after lunch! No sightings this time The food was amazing! What a terrific place for a wonderful meal. One of the first warm and sunny spring days meant that the large white fenced porch was THE place to be. Then when we needed a wider chair for accommodation, multiple staffers jumped to help. Our server, Shaunn is a marvel, anticipating timing, needs and recommending wine, appetizers and specials with mouth watering descriptions. Then all aspects of the meal more than met his narrative. The fried green tomatoes were a bit overwhelmed by their crunchy coating, and cream drizzle, but what a terrific appetizer. Their chicken thighs were amazing. Moist, crunchy skin, perfectly seasoned and presented. I had the pork loin special. Again, a great presentation, and wonderful dish. The biggest mistake we made was saying yes to Shaunn when he all but mandated we try the bourbon pecan Bundt cake. We chose here for lunch after picking our son up at the airport. I chose it because I love eating in old historical houses with character. My husband was worried that it was going to be all decorative views and not concentrated on the tastes. Boy was he wrong and what's more, he was the first to admit it. The food was excellent.
