The George Clinton Mural was on the side of the Towel City Tavern building, so since I was already there, I decided to have lunch. Towel City Tavern has two floors and is connected to the baseball stadium. Only the first floor was open during my visit. The Cabarrus Brewing Co. serving tanks are what you see as you enter. If you order a beer, it will be fresh as it comes directly from the tanks, as it is brewed on site. The restaurant's name pays homage to the city's textile roots and the towels made at the mills. The restaurant design also incorporated the town's history with Cannon Mills. The restaurant has an industrial feel with the open kitchen, high ceilings, concrete floors, exposed brickwork and steel structures. The tables were crafted from a 160-year-old tree that fell on the mill property. There were garage doors that likely opened during the games. They offer a $10 lunch special that includes a drink, side and entree. The $10 menu had a lot to select from: sandwiches, wraps, salads, wings, and a burger. I went with the All-American burger and fries. My burger was a good size, cooked to order and tasted great. The fries were really good, too. Service was great and attentive too. I was even offered a tea to go. My waiter got me in and out of the restaurant fast so I could get to the Music Hall of Fame on time. I did stop at the mural again on my way back to the car. Parking was free in the street spots and no time limits. Although I am not sure about the rules on game days/nights. With my favorite mural on the building, I have a feeling I will be back again to try more menu items and maybe see a ballgame too. read more

While there are no baseball games, the views of field and people enjoying the stadium are great. The service was slow but ok. We went for lunch to try out there specials. Fighting gnats was not on the agenda for my dining wishes yet it seemed like that's all we did all night. It was so bad we had to cover our drinks and food with napkins towards the end and only lift them when we got ready to take a sip/bite. Ordered the Tavern burger and it came out with a slider bun (on a regular sized burger), no pimento cheese and no candied bacon. Sent it back and got a proper bun and the pimento cheese but still no candied bacon. Was told that the red jelly substance was the "spiced candied bacon" it has ZERO bacon in it. I feel like $16 for a burger with no bacon is an absolute rip off. I ended up eating the burger bc by this point my stomach was hurting bc I was so hungry and my friend had already finished her food and we were both too tired to argue. We went to Towel City Tavern on a Friday night before a ballgame. The place was packed (beautiful night + busy game), but we were seated right away--bonus points for getting an outdoor table with a view of the ballpark. It was awesome eating while hearing the sounds of the game and warmups in the background. We each had a beer, which was really good. Service was excellent all night. I ordered the wings--flavor was solid, though they were a bit too crispy for my taste. The Cheerwine sauce was good, but I personally would have liked it a little sweeter. We have been waiting a long time to visit Towel City and we enjoyed our first visit. We came for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. We arrived at opening and chose to sit outside. The awesome hostess sat us at the best table to get a view of the baseball game. They provide complementary hushpuppies, which were warm and delicious. We all ordered the Wednesday Lunch Special, Pulled Chicken Sandwiches. The special includes a side and a drink for just $10. I chose the Mac N Cheese for my side and the classic Sweet Tea. The meal was just ok. The sandwich was a pretty dry, so I had to add bunch of barbecue sauce. The Mac n Cheese was pretty basic, nothing special. The service was good and the restaurant, including the restroom, was clean. They offer a different lunch special every weekday, so I would be open to trying again. read more

We had an ok, but weird experience here. This restaurant is attached to the ballpark and gets pretty busy during games. This was our first time here and we wanted to check out a full service food option before the game started so we stopped here. Getting a seat was weird because they automatically made us sit upstairs outside even though there were several open tables downstairs inside. The reason they gave us just didn't make any sense. We went upstairs and ordered from the bartender up there. We waited a little for food, but not too long considering. Once our food came out one person in our group was missing a lot. They did correct it by just remaking it and bringing it over to us. The food wasn't too bad. I might try them again if we go back and maybe it'll be a slightly better experience. read more

Visited Towel City Tavern today on a nice day in Kannapolis for lunch. Prime location beside the Cannonballers field. Wow this place definitely needs an upgrade on food quality. I honestly thought this place had BBQ, but didn't see a single BBQ item on the menu, but I must be mistaken. We started with the Triple Play and the Stuffed Hushpuppies and both were miserable attempt at a starter for the table. The chips were stale and chewy and the cheese dip was cold, pimento cheese was almost frozen, and the guacamole was not fresh. Stuffed hushpuppies were terrible, just frozen and microwaved by the taste. I had the club sandwich which was okay and the fries were plain and cold. My son had the Fish & Chips and nothing fresh about those cod fillets, definitely frozen and deep fried. Daughter had the Caesar Salad is was so mid and the chicken was straight from the fridge and pre-cooked at best. Best of luck to this place. Not sure they know what they want to be as a restaurant and I'm sure the rent is not cheap at this location. read more

Even though the order was for a medium rare burger, it came out well done! As far as service, no one followed up with us until they brought the bill. What a cute place! Bar, Burgers, Dressed Pork Butt ... ok why not! Ha! Let me start with the Dip Trio! Smoked crab, benedictine, and pimento cheese. Accompanied with a side of hot honey, house pickles, and grilled bread. Everything in this trio I could eat over and over except the Benedictine. It's like it doesn't really go with the others. Remember the show which one of these things don't belong? Yeah, the Benedictine. But when I tell you that bread, with the pimento cheese and honey; they had me right there! Now that Tavern Burger should be outlawed! It's so tender & juicy. Really it's incredible. It's a good size portion too so don't eat too many appetizers or else you will have to take half the sandwich home like I did. It did reheat nicely in the air fryer but not like having it good and fresh. All in all, such a great spot! They also have a large area upstairs that you can rent for large parties. Such a fantastic addition to downtown. Oh did I tell you it also overlooks the ballpark?! Love it! Make the drive into downtown Kannapolis, park and enjoy the meal and the walk after. Mac n cheese is dry, they gave me burnt cheese curds. The over seasoned fries were ok. The Philly cheesesteak was highway robbery at 4" long. Ketchup bottles on all tables empty. At least the 2 tables that had bottles. Was told they are out of everything then it randomly came out to the table with what they were out of. Not a fan. Probably won't be back. The service was slow and the server would disappear for 15 mins come by and be gone for 15 mins and then forget something be gone another 15 mins. Went in here for an earlier lunch around 11:50 on a Friday. This is a new place so it's clear they're trying to get their bearings. I ordered the brisket sandwich and wasn't told they were out of brisket until 15 minutes after ordering. They were also out of smoked turkey, fried green tomatoes and burnt ends. The burger I ended up getting was pretty good minus the old dry and hard to bite onion straws that had probably been made days before. My wife ordered a burger and it came out wrong. I'm guessing the cooks came in late and unprepared. They also only had one waitress working all the tables, must not have expected a big lunch crowd. Would love to give this place another try but with all the other places to eat it would have to be a situation where there was no other option or there was some incentive to. read more

We're always intrigued by the possibility of new beer, but didn't realize this is connected to the Kannapolis baseball park and Cabarrus Brewing! We could see the game from inside the restaurant, and we were able to park two blocks away and walk. Looks like a good atmosphere for groups, families, and adults. The beer was good, and food was ok. I had a brisket sandwich and the bun was a little soggy. The carrot side was good, but nothing special. My husband liked his burger. Lets go with the good first. The establishment has a lot of drink options. Depending on the bartender the cocktails are pretty consistent. This has been one of the better places in downtown Kannapolis. Food is good but there is always room for improvement and consistency. Being right in the ballpark with the downstairs and balcony overlook is the biggest bonus for this place. Watching a baseball game while dinning is always a great sell. Now the bad, the hours really need to be later during the week. There aren't a lot of options outside of fast food dining after 8 pm in Kannapolis. Maybe their hours have extended for the summer but as for a few weeks ago they were closing at 9pm. The nat problem around the bar is something that needs to be controlled. The trash cans behind the bar are either not being emptied consistently or there are just too many behind the bar. Understanding that they add a percentage to your bill for watching the game within their establishment can be a bit confusing. Beer needs to be colder. The lighting is very bright giving it an almost warehouse feeling. Prices are a little on the high side with really no weekly or daily specials that are good on the wallet. read more

We had a lovely evening at Towel City tonight. This new venue is really spacious and has a nice vibe. Lots of seating with great views. Our server, Spencer, was extremely pleasant and helpful. The menu is adult friendly. There is not a children's menu. We opted for a side of mac'n'cheese for our little one and it was not good. They need to go back to the drawing board on that recipe. It was very dry with no flavor. However, having said that all our other food was very flavorful and tasty. Prices are high. I think you can get creative after going once on ordering and splitting dishes once you know what you like to reduce your bill. read more

A group of us went to try the highly anticipated Towel City Tavern a few days ago, and I will preface this review by saying that I think they were still in a sort of soft opening stage where you have to have reservations, so I think there is certainly the possibility of this review going up, and I imagine we will be back so I will add another review at that time! From a service standpoint, it was certainly erratic, but again, they are new and need some time and certainly some training. Our table asked which sides the server reccommended and we got a suggestion of "I don't really do vegetables, so I would say the fries", which I will say has gotten a few good laughs from our group since! haha. There was also a lot of snafus with other tables orders coming to our table and some issues with checks at the end, but I will give them a lot of credit, after a lot of trying on their part, they just comped the parts that they could not figure out and told us to please return (which we will). On to the star of the show, the food! This was a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion. We started with a few of the appetizers of hushpuppies stuffed with pimento cheese with an Alabama BBQ sauce on them. I think everyone at the table really liked these! I got shrimp and grits which were not the worst I have every had, but for the price... I wouldn't get again. The pulled pork sliders were good, as was the smoked chicken! From a side standpoint, the fries were actually decent, so glad she recommended that I guess! The other two sides that a few people tried that were hit or miss depending on the person were the sweet potatoes and the cheese grits. Some like them a lot while some found the sweet potatoes to be more like a dessert they were so sweet and the cheese grits just lacking the flavor and consistency of really good cheese grits. Overall, yes there are still some kinks to work out, but we will be back and try some more things and hope it does well. Kannapolis (especially downtown) needs a decent restaurant badly and maybe this will be it! time will tell! read more

Been here a handful of times, and I've always enjoyed my experience. Starting off, I really like their Hazy IPA. They offer a good selection of appetizers, and I always get the smoked wings, (the rub is fantastic and there's a good selection of sauces to choose from, the Cheerwine BBQ sauce is a favorite). Other appetizers not to miss include the pretzels and deviled eggs. I've done a variety of entrees and can recommend the pork chops as well as the burnt ends. On my last visit I ordered the Smoked Leg Quarter, the rub is amazing. My wife had the smoked trout on our last visit and liked it, along with the Hoppin John. I got a side of the succotash, along with collard greens, both were delicious. In the past we've also enjoyed the baked beans and Mac & Cheese. One of these days I'm going to try their burger, other people at our table have ordered it, and it looks amazing. They've just add new menu items that I look forward to trying, so I'll definitely be heading back here again. read more

Nice looking place we have been meaning to visit. Have to say this was two trips in one. Our first and our last. Inside does look good. My cheese burger was good, my son's chicken was room temp, and my wife's chicken sandwich was way over cooked. Staff didn't ask till the end about our food. Biggest issue was bugs constantly landing on the table and then to our plates. Two staff members noted this was a summer long issue due to open fruit at the bar. I work in FL and don't have this issue at bars/restaurants. Nothing but "a sorry" over the whole situation. Not even a discount or manager coming over. We came after church on a Sunday afternoon. I will say they seated us right away and we had a decent sized party, so that was nice. The food here is tasteless and just not good! We went for lunch with a group of 15 and ordered a variety of menu items from the Tavern Burger to the pulled chicken plate. The burgers are the size and texture of hockey pucks, and presentation was null. The best thing I ate were the hush puppies, which they give u free to snack on while waiting for your meal. 4 smart, kind and pretty honor roll students were there to celebrate a birthday. I called and requested a table because I wanted the girls wanted to sit close to the ball field for great pictures. Got there and the girls were told that they couldn't sit close to ball field because larger parties were coming. Asked the hostess if they would honor the reservation she just looked clueless and irritated. Eventually, the girls were moved closer to the original reservation. You're there to mix drinks, pour beers and provide customer service. 2 attempts to get drinks prior to after Cannonballers game.
