I then asked if he has looked at it and he said no and told me S**T HAPPENS. At that point I asked if he cursed at all his customers and I got Larry in my face pointing at me with his finger. At this point I asked why he didnt call me and tell me he was busy and I could have took it somewhere else. I of course used the f word a few times but never towards Larry just in the frustration of the situation. Larry then went on to tell me F**K YOU with both his arms crossed like the old days. Other symptoms which had been going on for a l-o-n-g time, were "chirping" when I would depress the brake while at a stand still , and a "whirring" sound, which apparently is the ABS module pump cycling on. Searched online for a mechanic who specializes in hybrid car repair. Happened upon Best Deal Hybrid Auto Repair and read positive reviews. Called an spoke with Hisham (the or one of the owners). He was patient with me, friendly, professional and communicative. He texted a quote to me within an hour. I called with questions, which he readily answered. The quote included a waived diagnostic (apparently, a typical OBD II reader won't assess a hybrid, regenerative ABS system). The quote also included a refurbished or remanufactured part (in efforts to save me money, this was proposed), but I stated that I preferred a new part for such a critical function as braking. He quickly obtained price with a new part, and sent me a new quote. I affirmed the quote. The very next morning I brought my car in. Within 4 hours my vehicle was ready (fortunately he stated that towards the end of the month, they are typically not as busy as earlier in the month, so I lucked out!)! Overall, the value was great! Per Google AI, "Replacing an ABS actuator and pump module assembly with a new OEM part for a 2004 Toyota Prius at a dealership typically costs between $3,000 and $5,200 total for parts and labor", but my bill was less than $3K, so a significant savings! I am so happy to have found an honest, efficient, professional and friendly hybrid mechanic specialist shop! Thank you Best Deal Hybrid! Thank you Hisham! I took my truck back and he insisted that the issue was something other than the knock sensors then proceeded to charge me for further diagnostic testing. I took my truck to a qualified mechanic who replaced the off brand knock sensors with Toyota sensors and my truck has been running perfectly ever since. it should be a sign when the mechanic can't fix your vehicle yet offers to buy it for an insultingly low price since it's not in running condition. Stay away from this shop and these poor excuses for technicians. Jim needs to retire already and stop leeching off the local community.
