I have been going to the Small Car Shop ever since I bought my '89 Honda CRX back in 1996. The owner, Darrel Patzkowsky, is a great man and I trust his word. Two other Hondas and 20 years later, the only thing I can hope for is that Darrel never retires. Sometimes I may take one of my cars in for one thing, and sometimes his staff may find something else wrong that I didn't know about. Then, Darrel will give me his honest opinion if the unexpected problem(s) are requiring immediate attention or expected attention. As long as The Small Car Shop has maintained my vehicles, I've never had one break down and that's important due to my job, the long commutes, and the isolated roads that I somethings drive. Once Darrel's staff repairs a problem, it is fixed. Only one time (in 20 years) that I had to take my car back for something believed repaired, but still needing an additional tweek to the previous repair, and when I returned Darrel quickly made the small adjustment without delay or additional charge. He truly does stand by his work and his word. Since the time that I had moved further away from this location, I still make the long drive to have The Small Car Shop to work on all my cars. read more

If there's a few things you want in an auto repair mechanic and his shop they are integrity, honesty and to be treated fairly and not be over charged. I have been to the small car shop many times some moving to the Clovis/ Fresno area in 2004. At that time I didn't have much monkey and my car was shaking like I was about to lose a wheel. My girlfriend at the time told me about the Small Car Shop and how the owner always dealt fairly her. I called and made an appointment and dropped off my car. There is a charge for diagnostics but that's reasonable. It turns out my motor mounts were bad and it wasn't my tie rods as I had feared. He could have charged hundreds of more dollars on that repair had he said it was the tie rods as I had even suggested but he kept the charge in the low couple of hundred dollars. He explained motor mounts on Neons and PT Cruisers we're not his favorite jobs to tackle because Dodge placed them in especially difficult locations. Darrel, the owner is a heck of a nice guy. He does great work at a fair price and you'll never feel like he's taking advantage of you because you're a woman or man who may not be that knowledgeable about cars. read more

Horrible experience. Called in the morning to bring in my GMC Envoy. He said to go ahead and bring it in might be a day or 2, which was fine. I drive with my wife seperate cars all the way to the shop. Tell him we have some codes coming up and changed the spark plugs, throttle body and coils, but still having issues. He said he didnt want to work on it because its not factory parts. So apparently if you have ever had to replace a part on your car, do not waste your time with this place.. what a joke. Got an appointment elsewhere tomorrow, will never be going back to this place or recommending ANYONE else to go through this, straight up lazy business. read more

The best and only shop you should go to! I have been going to Darrel for the past 3-4 years and let me tell you... He goes above and beyond! He will not charge you an arm and a leg, his prices are very reasonable. He provides great customer service in the sense that he will listen to you and provide you honest feedback. Excellent, reliable service, every time. Darrel takes his time in listening to you explain your problem and has a genuine interest in making sure your needs are fully met. He is very honest; he doesn't automatically bill you for the maximum hours from the ASE book, he bills you for the time he actually spent, and he will advise of possible future issues to keep an eye on that don't need immediate attention. This is the best shop in Fresno, friendly and honest service, I always get my car back within a day and it always runs great afterward. The only down side is that they are a little more expensive, but that is only cuz they refuse to use cheap parts, they only use good ones-their labor costs are the same as everybody's. If u bring ur car here for service, u won't be disappointed. read more
