I have been living at Town Center Apartments for 5 years and I love it. The location is perfect because it is walking distance to four different grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants and bars, boutique shops, schools and a leisurely 8-10 minutes walk to the BART station. The building manager Claudia, and the maintenance staff Dave and Miguel, do a wonderful job responding to our issues, repair or replacement requests, and they do a great job maintaining the appearance of the apartment complex, community spaces and grounds. I stay in a top unit which have a high vaulted ceiling and a fireplace, and it is nice to be able to listen to the Happy Valley Creek, and look at trees out from my windows, and sometimes I see deers. I think all the units are equipped with central heart and air conditioning (which you need here in Lafayette), and a full size washer and dryer. There is a newly remodeled BBQ area, patio area with a nice view, and amenity spaces. I feel safe and happy here, and I would recommend this place. read more

I am writing this review to share my experience trying to rent an apartment at Town Center Apartments in Lafayette. My wife and I were initially drawn to the property because of its location near BART, but the entire application process turned into one of the most frustrating rental experiences we've ever had. The first red flag was communication. We were never able to speak with anyone at the leasing office by phone. Every interaction was either through text messages with someone who wasn't on-site or with an overseas representative, making it nearly impossible to get straightforward answers. After our self-guided tour, we decided to apply for a two-bedroom, one-bath unit. Right before submitting our application, we were informed that the unit we wanted was not renovated. Nowhere on the website was it disclosed that some units were renovated while the available units were not. The apartments shown during the tour gave a completely different impression than what was actually available, which felt misleading. Despite that, we moved forward with the application. Because I am self-employed, I was repeatedly asked to provide additional documentation that was never listed as part of the application requirements. Every time I submitted what was requested, another request followed. It felt like the requirements kept changing as we went along. We spent nearly a month going back and forth with Rajshree, submitting document after document, even though we clearly demonstrated that we were financially qualified, including current bank statements showing well over ten times the monthly rent in available funds. I repeatedly asked to speak with someone by phone so we could discuss the situation and find a solution, but those requests were ignored. Eventually, we were told we needed a co-signer, but even then the requirements were never clearly explained. The same cycle continued, with vague requests for more documentation and no clear guidance on what was actually needed. After wasting nearly a month, paying over $180 in application fees for three applicants, and getting nowhere, we finally gave up and rented elsewhere. When I eventually spoke with Rajshree by phone, there was no apology or acknowledgment of how poorly the process had been handled. Instead, she claimed they had called us and that we never returned the calls, which is simply not true. We genuinely wanted to lease here because of the location, and we made every effort to work with them. What I still can't understand is why a property with multiple vacant units would choose to turn away applicants who were financially qualified, willing to sign a one-year lease, and even willing to pay the entire lease amount upfront. Instead of working with us to resolve what should have been a straightforward application, they allowed the process to drag on until we gave up. It left me questioning whether their priorities are really centered on filling apartments and providing good customer service, because that certainly wasn't our experience. To make matters worse, it took approximately six weeks to receive our deposit refund, and we had to follow up multiple times before the check was finally sent. Don't let the recent positive reviews fool you. If this is how difficult it is to communicate with management before you've even signed a lease, I can only imagine how frustrating it would be if you actually became a tenant and needed help with an issue. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. There are far more honest, professional, and responsive apartment communities in the area that actually value prospective residents. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering Town Center Apartments to look elsewhere. read more

This apartment complex has horrible management. Unresponsive, constantly unavailable in their leasing office, and often ignore maintenance requests. Dealing with them is a constant headache. When we moved in last year, we had no functioning microwave for at least a week. Fixing the sliding door so that our patio could actually be used took more than a month. At one point, there was a massive leak in a unit above us that no one seemed in a rush to fix, despite repeated attempts to alert management, causing water damage to our own unit. We have had at least six months of incorrect inflated water charges for hundreds of dollars each month. I do not recommend this complex for prospective tenants, as the building owners show very little care or appreciation for their current tenants. read more

The only good thing about this place is the location. I moved out months ago, spent $300 to have my apartment professionally cleaned and am still waiting for the return of my $225 cleaning fee. The apartment was noticably cleaner when I left than when I moved in. I was advised that a refund check was on it's way and I'm still waiting six months later. I've called and texted many times. When I moved into the apartment the manager (Crystal) and handyman (Len) were wonderful and very responsive and capable. After a couple of months a new team arrived and things immediately went downhill. The outside walkways were slick went it rained (I've seen people slip), a couple of inches of rain collected in front of my apartment door when it rained and the elevators were not reliable. In one of the buildings you had to jump up and down to get the elevator to move to a different floor. The elevator inspection was out of date (by a lot). Unfortunately I've had to recommend acquaintances look elsewhere for an apartment. Don't move here! read more

I had an appointment to see an apartment on which I have already paid a deposit. There was no one in the leasing office when I arrived. I made a special trip from Oakland and took time off from work in order to keep my appointment. After waiting for 35 minutes a woman walked by and informed me the person I was waiting for had gone to Los Angeles earlier in the day. This lack of courtesy is very unprofessional. I would have understood if she needed to reschedule our meeting; however, that she didn't bother to contact me is not acceptable. read more

I've lived in many complexes across the country and the bay area, and this place is as good as it gets in terms of my experiences. The management (particularly Claudia) is very responsive to requests and friendly. I've lived here for 6mo. This place is kid friendly and pet friendly. The construction is very sturdy, and although I'm on the top floor, I'm pretty sure you won't hear your neighbors above from the solid flooring (I think it's concrete and not wood-based). On the top floor they have a really nice vaulted ceiling. The place is kinda like living in a cool tree-house :) The only mild complaints are that some of the appliances are cheap (but all function properly). read more

I have been staying over @ Town Center, visiting my "long-distance" boyfriend for a month now. I had to visit a doctor in the area because of lack of sleep in this building. I have a serious heart disease, and the construction going on right on the bedroom wall disrupts my sleep, causing me chest pain and tachycardia. I can't sleep nor take a nap until after they are gone in the afternoon. I feel so sorry for the families I've seen in this building and their babies. My boyfriend says the manager didn't warn him of the construction prior to signing any lease. You can't have privacy because they are right there in your balcony unless you close the curtain. I had to leave a review because this is impacting negatively the health of people residing in this building from babies to handicapped seniors. read more

This is a 2 star hotel with 4 star prices. Avoid it like the plague. The owners are incredibly cheap and have not upgraded anything since the complex was originally built, even though they charge very high rents. The property manager is very misleading and cannot be trusted. Our unit was spotless when we left, in better condition than we found it yet they still charged us hundreds of dollars for "cleaning" even though we had it professionally cleaned. Basically they'd rather squeeze every last cent out of you that they can rather than be honest and fair. We've lived in over a dozen different apartments across the country and have never had such a bad experience or met a property manager who is so purposefully deceitful. Stay away! Town Center Apartments (aka Bay Glen L.P, now Sack Properties) This apartment complex gets one star for its amazing convenience. From the front door there is a path which leads directly to the BART station - it is a 5 minute stroll along a babbling creek. In addition, there are 4 grocery stores, a drug store, and several restaurants within walking distance. For someone moving out of SF, it is nice to have the neighborhood feel. They also get one star for the people who work at Town Center Apartments. The woman in the leasing office is very friendly, although her office is open very unusual hours (see below). The maintenance man is helpful and generally responsive (see below). And there is a maintenance woman who is always hard at work keeping the place looking immaculate. That is as much as I'm willing to give. There have been several recent thefts within the complex. Everything from outdoor decorative items to furniture, packages, and even car break-ins of those parked in the "secure" garage. Security is compromised due to the proximity to BART, and exacerbated by the odd hours kept by the front office. The office is bizarrely open only half days most of the week, and closed altogether 3 days per week. (Good luck having someone sign for your package/delivery while you are at work!) The construction of the buildings is shoddy. Literally, there are doors which don't close properly because their frames are crooked. There is an odd mixture of different carpets, linoleum, and fake wood flooring across the apartments. The appliances are outdated. In addition, I'm quite certain that one would find mold in the walls - if not from the poor workmanship, than from water damage which was handled improperly. I would think that preventative maintenance alone would require at least one or two more people than they currently have. Finally, I think that the owners have realized that they could charge new tenants much more (due to the overall increases in the bay area) and are trying to get people to move out. In summary, awesome convenience with crappy apartments (reminiscent of my shitty college lodging). It should be a temporary stop (if necessary), but get out quickly. UPDATE: They're down to one star. The apartments are still wonderfully convenient, but that's it. The convenience to BART and town also come at a price: plenty of car break-ins and homeless people on property. Nothing has been done to increase safety for tenants. The management has gotten less responsive following changes to the office staff. The office hours are worse. I think we're down to 2-3 days per week when the office should open, although it is rare to find the office open even on those days. Sometimes a hand-written note is posted to the front door informing tenants and prospective tenants that the office will be closed for multiple days without warning. The upkeep of the property is going downhill while rent continues to go up. A two-year construction project just began adjacent to the buildings without any notice to tenants. (I believe that this is the long delayed phase 3 of the complex.) I highly recommend that you find a better location for the money. read more

I lived here for 2 years. You can't beat the location if you commute on BART, that's first and foremost. As far as quality and such, the interiors aren't as fancy as the exteriors. I had a cabinet door that didn't close right in 2 years and my apartment is dark. My microwave and dishwasher were older, from when the building was first built. The management is split among the two buildings, so is not there every day. I got locked out on a Saturday afternoon and it's frustrating when you're paying over 2K per month not to have an onsite manager on a Saturday (I hung out in the common room for 5 hours). They've gone through 4 property managers in 2 years. When I had emergencies otherwise (like my doorknob randomly falling off!) they have been responsive, their maintenance guy is very good.) As a working professional, the onsite manager was never there when I was there. All resident events were on the same weeknight and ended at 7, too early for those of us who work later shifts. Would have been nice to attend a few. They are dog friendly but oddly have ivy and bushes everywhere which makes finding dog poop hard! They installed 2 poop bag stations (yay!) then randomly took one away (boo!). I had a bad experience where it was coming within 1 month of my lease renewal and the previous property manager did not give me any information about rent changes. I assumed this meant it would increase again and found a different living situation. They, like all large property management companies, are also pathetically stingy about deposits. They charged me $75 to "light clean" my CLEAN apartment. And 2 hours worth of repainting for a 1 bedroom unit. Did not leave me with a good move-out experience. At all. read more

Sure the carpets are a boring beige but they the place is quiet, handles my 65 lb dog without issue and even stocks doggy poopoop bags. Management has been very responsive to my requests. Worst apartment ever! I have old appliances even though I was shown newer ones when I came for a tour. The security gate works intermittently. Office staff is never there even during office hours. The calls to the leasing office always transfer to a voicemail where you can leave a message where no one calls you back. My first month here the dishwasher didn't work even after maintenance came to fix it. They had to replace it with a new unit that still doesn't work. They increased rent in one year by 10% and no new features or services. read more

I often pass by this complex and have contemplated renting there, however, over the past several months, I have noticed transients setting-up camp on the backside of the property (between the back of the building and the freeway embankment), tents and all!! Seems like management is unaware or unwilling to do anything about this problem. Imagine paying all this rent and having squatters right outside the window!! (and in Lafayette of all places!) *3 property managers in as many months* lived at Town Center for 6 months during a relocation to the area while we looked to purchase a home. I am a bit baffled as to all the negative reviews. The location is perfect. You can walk to bart, grocery store and local shops and restaurants and access to 24 is a breeze. Neighbors were all very nice and parking was never a problem. We had a few minor work issues and management was always very responsive. We never heard noise from our neighbors either. Some might complain about price but you know what you're signing up for. read more

Renters BEWARE!! I rated Town Center Apartments with two stars only because the outside is beautiful, it sits on bart and the property manager is great. In every single other account I would rate this complex a zero. First off, there are two buildings. If you are looking to rent a unit in the larger building that faces Mt Diablo Road, you need to know that it is incredibly loud. The businesses have garge pick-up every other morning at 5:30 am and the restaurants (Baja Fresh, Antica and Panda Express) clean their sidewalks and empty their garbage late at night after they close. In addition, there are guys who go through the dumpster behind AT&T everynight around 10:00 pm - they collect cans and are very loud. If you are looking to rent a unit in the smaller building on the hill, you must know that the designated smoking area is directly infront of the building and off the main walk way. It does not matter what unit you rent - YOU WILL SMELL THE SMOKE. The individuals who do smoke, smoke at all hours and are often loud with their conversations. Lastly, there are few VERY CREEPY people that live here that makes the complex feel unsafe!!! If you have children, or grandchildren that will visit you, I strongly recommend that you not rent here.
