Loretta had been here a number of years ago and said she enjoyed the place back in the day. Those who travel to Brawley now and then May remember it seeing that it's the only steak house or upscale Restaurant ? for some distance. Well I had to try this old legend standby that had been on my bucket list for years. First it's been upgraded inside with a large seating area. Much larger than it looks from the outside. Nice Decor and clean. The staff was very friendly from Management to Servers to the Busers. They were very pleasant. Now for the food. Sadly it was somewhat under my expectations. It's Reputation wasn't apparently still A+ The dishes we ordered were far overpriced for the Quality We Received. Loretta Ordered The Regular Cut Prime Rib medium rare. It was cooked to a perfect temperature and not bad seasoning but a bit Tough for an $37.00 piece of Beef. I should have known better but I ordered The Seafood Platter. Shrimp, Scallop's and Catfish. $41.00 Far overpriced for frozen breaded seafood. It was well overcooked and flavorless. 2 Stars. I will say the baked potatoes were perfect. The highlight of dinner was The Friday Clam Chowder. Very good and chalked full of tender Clams and Vegetables. Thick and Creamy. Well now I know. I have been a patron of the Town Pump for the past 35 years. We were visiting the valley and decided to have an early dinner as we headed back home. We were greeted at the door and quickly escorted to a table, since this was a spur of the moment we did not make reservations. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and made sure to check on us during perfect time of our meal. I ordered the porterhouse while my husband ordered chicken fried steak, everything was cooked perfectly. Great old school steakhouse, very 60s 70s vibe. The steaks look great but there isn't much else to the menu. Unfortunately, I am a vegetarian and I could only enjoy a salad. My carnivore boyfriend enjoyed his half of his burger. The service was great. Our server gave us the history of this establishment, explained in detail the menu, and overall was very friendly. Went for a date night with my wife. Ordered the special which was 2 "Prime" Captain cut Ribeye Steaks and sides. Additionally ordered was an appetizer (Calamari). The steak was cooked to correct temp but super dry. There was no fat at all which is surprising for any quality Ribeye but especially surprising for Prime. Server forgot my wife's side and instead of bringing it she simply argued that it wasn't ordered. For desert was apple cobler ala mode. This was my first experience getting a refrigerator cold slice of cobler with almost no filling (all crust). I use to frequent this place but quality keeps declining and service was horrible. There's nothing better than a nice Brandt Bros steak at the Town Pump Steakhouse. I grew up there when it was mainly a bar, played shuffleboard while my dad had few beers to cool down. We no longer live in the valley, but never miss the Cattle Call and dinner there, and breakfast at Brownies Diner. When the Brown family bought it years ago, they changed it from more of a bar to what it is today. Gabriel and his sister have done a great job with Keeping the ambience of the days past. Now, before you start tossing rocks at me, I want to start off with "I've been coming to the Town Pump for literally decades..." As a longtime customer, I think I have a pretty good idea how much the Town Pump has changed over the years. On 12/08/2018, my family and I went to the "Pump" to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. My 2 sons and I ordered the Brandt Beef ribeye steaks, my wife the regular ribeye, and my daughter-in-law the fried shrimp. We got there kinda early, so there were hardly any other customers. Even though there were hardly any customers, it took at least 40 minutes to get our dinners. To start off, my daughter-in-law's shrimp dinner had hairs in it. That was it for her appetite. It was immediately brought to the attention of our server and the meal was taken away and replaced with another. From then on, our server was somewhat apprehensive in getting too close to our table for the remainder of our dinner. While cutting into my Brandt Beef ribeye, I noticed there was a more than customary amount of fat and gristle in my steak. By the time I was done, I had a fairly modest pile of scraps for the pooch. I also ordered the asparagus spears to accompany my steak. Man, those spears could have doubled as fence posts - thick, tough, stringy. My sons' steaks? Same deal. My wife's steak? Damn nice! Now don't get me wrong... Her steak wasn't that cheap, but cheaper than the ole BB ribeye I paid 37 bucks X 3! After I got home from the dinner, my stomach got very upset. Both my sons told me the next day they had the same reaction. Not my wife or daughter-in-law... Lucky them! I don't think I'll be visiting the Pump again ... ever... read more

The Town Pump is back, and just like I remembered it! The original owners are back and better than ever! We went out for dinner on Friday night before Christmas (so we didn't have to cook!) and the restaurant was pretty busy. We were promptly seated and well taken care of all night. It had been a very long time since we've been, as everyone in the valley knows, the quality really went downhill with the previous owner, but we were excited to try it out now that the Brown family was back! They have beer and wine, no hard alchohol for now, but everything else is just the same as way back when. They bring out a plate of cold veggies: carrots, radishes, celery and cucumber right when you sit down, and our drinks came out quickly. They had Stella on tap, which made my drink an easy choice! The ambiance inside is a little different then the original, the lighting is not dimmed as much as it was back in the 80's and 90's, and a welcome change from the last time we visited was how clean the kitchen looked from the dining room. For my entree I went with the Ribeye medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Also served up was a side order of nostalgia with the foil wrapped potatoes! The potato was fluffy and not sticky, and the steak was delicious; the seasoning was spot on. We had an excellent time, and will surely be back often now that it's returned to it's former glory! It was nice to just sit and visit with our family, enjoy a good steak, and not have to do the dishes afterward! Pretty good for a small town steakhouse honestly. Overall, I was pleased with the newcastle draft offering (tasted freshly tapped too) and the service. There were some things I didn't like about the food, but it was basically on par with what I expected. I had the New York Strip but after tasting someone's Bacon wrapped filet minon, I'd probably get that next time. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd come back again though. Definitely for the beer, maybe for the food. For the price, I think I could find something better. I'd give the place 3.75 stars if I could. Would be more accurate in my book. read more
