After my cleaning my dentist, Dr Julio Cesar De los Rios DMD, examined me, looked at the x-rays and advised me what course of action I should take for the future. He is also very professional, knowledgeable, and nice! Then I proceeded to check out where Dana explained to me about their dental plan and how much of a discount I could get on future procedures. She really took the time to pull out a model of teeth to show me exactly which tooth she was referring to, so I'd be sure to understand. I've been using this Perfect Smile Dentistry office for over 20 years. It's a real easy location to get to with plenty of parking and everyone at the office is super friendly and I feel confident in what they tell me. I am a very satisfied patient.

The doctor looked at my teeth for less than 30 seconds and decided I needed to have a special treatment that stops bleeding. I had brought in my schedule of benefits and that really made them mad because they thought they could get one over on me. I am here to tell you that whatever you do or where you go you should be informed. I let them know my cleaning was $5 and my office visit was $5 so they decided to tack on a $65 per tooth to stop bleeding which is absolutely ridiculous because they had never met me or knew anything about my dental history. I looked at my schedule of benefits and this treatment showed $65 per tooth however they lied to me and said, "Oh no, that is a one time charge." but I know that they are liars and would have come back later to charge me the remainder from all the reviews I have seen. They are scammers and liars. Do not go to this dentist unless your mouth is on fire and still even if you can avoid this place do not go. They will recommend procedures and then tell you that your insurance doesn't cover those services (which is untrue) When I visited this office for the first time 4 months ago I was very unhappy with my experience. I was told that my insurance did not cover 2 services that were recommended by the hygienist and when I questioned it because I was pretty positive they were covered I was told by the front desk staff that "insurance never covers these procedures". I declined the recommended services because I had a gut feeling I was being told wrong information. When I got home I reviewed my insurance policy to confirm those services were covered 100% I called later that day and spoke to Josline (the office manager) I was told that she would look into it and get back to me. She called me back shortly after and apologized and said her staff has certain protocols which were not followed and she takes full responsibility and continued to apologize. I said it was my first time as patient there and I was very disappointed.Josline then said (on our phone call) please come back and you can get your 2 services and as an apology I will not bill the 2nd service (fluoride treatment ) to your insurance and it will be free of charge. I was hesitant to come back but Josline sent me a quick text message the next morning again apologizing and saying she's very sorry and please let her know when I'm ready to schedule to come back. I thought the apology was genuine and the kind gesture to comp the fluoride treatment so I decided I would give this office another chance. I explained that my schedule did not allow for an immediate appointment but next time I come in I will gladly take you up on your offer. Yesterday I was back for my 2nd appointment (a cleaning) and the hygienist recommended a fluoride treatment and then proceeded to tell me it wasn't covered under my insurance. After I pushed back (thinking to myself here we go again )it was looked into further and surprisingly it was then covered. When I checked out at the front desk and spoke to Josline about her saying she wouldn't bill it to my insurance ( I have an allowed amount each year for covered services and I didn't want it to go towards that) she had printed out a text message that she sent me the day after my last appointment 4 months ago as a follow up to her phone apology and because she didn't mention the free fluoride treatment in the follow up text she acted like she never said it and handed me the printed out text with her apology and just said it doesn't say it on the text so she wasn't going to honor it. I told her we spoke about it on the phone at length while she was asking me to come back and give them another chance but she was not interested in anything I had to say. I am disgusted by the behavior I received yesterday. We had a clear and concise conversation about how she planned to rectify the mistake via phone and because it wasnt on the short text message that she sent the day after our conversation she was not willing to honor it. Just to be clear you lost a new client and any potential referrals over $30 It is in no way for me about the small dollar amount but more about unethical billing and when I tried to give them a second chance they not only tried to bill me again for covered services but then doubled down on it by refusing to comp the service I was promised as they rudely handed me text messages which were about 1/4 of our communication about this matter. Before booking anything, I texted this office directly to ask if they take Anthem Blue Cross for cleanings AND a sleep apnea mouthpiece. Their text back was crystal clear: "We do! And we do all of the above." (Check the screenshot attached). Any dentist offering sleep apnea devices knows these mouthpieces are covered under medical insurance, not standard dental insurance. They knew full well what I was asking for, yet they told me they covered it just to get me through the door. Are they that desperate for patients? I drove 45 minutes each way (an hour and a half round trip) for this appointment. It was only after they brought me back and put me in the chair that the dentist dropped the bomb: they don't actually bill medical insurance at all. To text-confirm "we do all of the above" under my insurance beforehand and then admit in the chair that they refuse to file medical claims is a blatant bait-and-switch. Instead, the dentist. last name Lapin, tried to play it off like no dentist bills medical insurance (only retired ones with nothing better to do), then pitched me an outrageous $5,000 to $6,000 cash price out-of-pocket. That is more than double what these custom devices normally cost. Luring someone into an appointment with false promises on insurance just to try to trap them into a massive cash bill in the chair is completely predatory. When I called them out on wasting my time, they were smug and dismissive. They waived the consultation fee, but didn't even bother to offer a basic apology for wasting almost two hours of my day and gas money due to their own line of BS. Do not trust what this office tells you over text or phone just to get you booked and in the door. Save yourself the headache and go to a real dentist who actually knows what they're doing and isn't incompetent, overpriced, rude, and arrogant.
