One of the best boba shops around Berkeley, hands down! I always opt for Tie Guan Yin or Strawberry Milk Tea drinks, and they have been so far my "safe" drinks if I want to satisfy my boba craving. One thing that is unique about this establishment compared to other boba stores is their QQ noodle topping (haven't found anything that has this). Came by two weeks in a row. Really liking their quality so far and have tried the Tie Guan Yin Latte, Tie Guan Yin Milk Tea, Strawberry Milk Tea, and Classic Milk Tea. All 4 drinks are pretty good but I prefer their Milk Tea over the Tea Latte. The Strawberry was also something I was skeptical of but was pleasantly surprised about how good it was. It's doesn't really remind me of a milk tea but more a strawberry milk smoothie since it was heavily loaded with real strawberries, crushed ice, and was smooth with milk. Prices are relatively competitive but the interior design is very updated and aesthetic. However parking in Southside is difficult sometimes if you aren't familar with the area and seating is very limited. Seems like the boba market here is too competitive, I thought TP Tea would be busier but I haven't encountered long lines yet. I would say this is closer to a 3.5, but I built up so much expectation for this place that I was a lil disappointed. Waking in, the space is very nice, with a few spots to sit (the chairs are super comfy!) and overall newly renovated features. My boyfriend and I came in at an off time, so there wasn't a line. I really wanted to try their strawberry milk tea as it appeared to be the most advertised and my boyfriend went for the Taiwan classic which comes with boba, grass jelly etc (c7 and c4). Drinks came out to a lil over $12... yikes that's pricey. Service was average and both drinks came out relatively quickly. I was surprised to find my strawberry milk tea blended. I stabbed my straw into the drink and was eager to try, and was happily surprised by the flavor. I enjoyed that it was different than I expected. Very creamy (my lactose sensitive self will surely suffer) and had strawberry chunks in it. I would def get this drink again and would put it at 4/5. When I sipped on my bf's drink, it was very underwhelming. We had asked for 80% sugar on both, but his was somehow lacking flavor and sweetness. I love the grass jelly! It's just kinda expensive. I'm not from the West coast, so the abundance and variety of boba places is crazy to me. My friend took me here on a Friday afternoon and the line took around 10 minutes. The drinks came out another 10 minutes after that -- it was pretty busy. I got the Tie Guan Yin milk tea (C3) with grass jelly and really liked it! The milk tea was very solid and 80% sweetness worked really well for me. However, my favorite part was the grass jelly. Coming from Texas, I've never had grass jelly that smooth and soft before. Big grass jelly fan, big fan of this place now. Just kinda expensive (~$5) relative to what I'm used to. read more

TP Tea is my current boba obsession. I usually go to the Cupertino location, but since I was in the area, grabbing boba is a must. The store itself is small, there are about 4-5 small tables and chairs. The wait times are on the longer end, but its worth it! The drink prices are also on the higher side, but worth! My go-to drink is the Taiwan Classic Milk Tea. The milk tea is a bit sweet, which I found perfect, but I do recommend adjusting the sweetness if you're not really a fan of sweet drinks. TP Tea has a Berkeley location!! And there is no ridiculous line like the Cupertino location!! And they are efficient and fast with making your drinks! Win! The drinks here were pretty, pretty comparable to the Cupertino location. Berkeley is further for me, but I'm glad they opened one up here too! Very popular here at Berkeley (maybe even overhyped) I got their milk tea that I can't name (tie guan yin??) properly but it was a nice flavor (felt like an oolong to my unrefined taste buds), adjusted sweetness definitely made the tea flavor a but more pronounced. Here they have two different boba options that really confused me: boba vs pearl. One is slightly bigger in size than usual (I think boba was regular size?), so either one is fine. Price is up there for boba(~6 for drink with boba), but I think the quality is also good for the size. According to my friend, drinks can be a hit or miss, so experiment around to find a taste that suits your preference. Seating is pretty limited and the line forms down the middle of the shop. read more

There workers seem overworked, they are very fast and there are lot of orders. They are very nice and always have something nice to say. The only down side to TP Tea is that you are not able to add extra topping and I love my tapioca pearls. Other than that I love the drink and trying new things there. Absolutely the best boba shop in the Bay Area, this is the second location (first is in Cupertino and always has like a 30-60 minute line). I've always been a big fan of their predecessor, the famous Chun Shui Tang chain in Taiwan (the inventor of boba milk tea) and its more casual spinoff Tea Patea, which I assume is sort of what TP Tea was modeling themselves after (have to admit, neither Tea Patea nor TP Tea are great names...I don't care if you say "TP" = "Taiwan Professional" because that's not what people think first...). I am not disappointed with the American offshoots. I've only had the tieguanyin milk tea multiple times now (here and from the Cupertino location), and that's really the only drink you need to know. That's the signature drink and probably the first thing you should try. If you aren't a fan of milk teas and you prefer fruity drinks, maybe you should hit up Yi Fang instead. Absolutely no other boba shop in the Bay Area does a more authentic and legit tieguanyin milk tea, which is kinda like an enlightened and super smooth oolong tea. The flavor comes through beautifully, the drink is neither too strong nor too watery. The ratio of milk doesn't overpower but allows the flavor to bathe your tastebuds in perfect harmony. Once you go tieguanyin milk tea, you can't go back. Every other milk tea will taste too watery, too milky, or too artificial. The sweetness level is contentious. The shop has a sign recommending full sweetness, my husband likes 80-100% (and he usually doesn't like sweets), but personally I find the sweetness a bit overpowering, so I find 30% to be my ideal spot. YMMV. Oh, it's also my policy never to get ice because I don't want my drink being diluted halfway through. It's cold enough as is without the ice IMO! Hope ya'll enjoy it as much as I do! This place opened up in Berkeley and apparently it's the second location in America, with the first location in Cupertino which is not too far away. It's interesting how they open two of these boba places in the Bay Area and not anywhere else. I ordered the tie guan yin tea latte with pearls (small boba) with 100% sweetness and less ice. The drink overall is refreshing and not terribly sweet, so it is completely fine to order the drink with 100% sweetness here! The tea itself has a nice flavor but the latte is more for aesthetics than a creamy flavor. The pearls are perfectly chewy and soft, making every sip of the drink enjoyable. We got lucky as there is a promotion of buy one get one $2.99 (+$0.50 for add ons) with purchase of another drink, and we came here 5 minutes before a huge crowd came to order. Overall, this is one of the above average boba places that keeps the drinks lowkey, compared to a lot of the boba places nowadays where they only make drinks only for the aesthetic, shifting away from the traditional boba milk tea with legitimate tea leaf sources. read more

I had A6, which is a "new" drink: Cheese Cream Tie Guan Yin Tea. Complaints: 1) The tea itself is very bitter and it seems the drink is meant to be mixed at some point in the process. Rather than allow you to decide when that is, the coffee lid they choose to use forces you to drink all of the cream first, mix it, or take the lid off and use a straw. Recommendation: use a different lid that allows us to both taste the salted cream without a straw and taste the tea below the cream with a straw - without having to take the lid off. 2) The menu needs some work, I think it's a digital menu on the screen and I know the cream is a "new" menu item, but it isn't listed as an add-on in Step 4 of their instructions. Also the "Favorites" board on the right side includes menu items like A6 but it doesn't exist in the list of A-menu items. Recommendation: inconsistencies in the menu can confuse newcomers and since the business is new it would probably help to iron this out. 3) I offered to pay an extra $1.25 (the menu price of adding cream) to my A6 order and was told explicitly that adding extra is not allowed. Very strange for a business that usually relies heavily on add-on revenue. Recommendation: related to point #2 above, this inconsistency isn't listed anywhere and is very surprising. It isn't clear if this policy extends to the boba and pearls or just the cream. Don't list the additional cost of cream for A-level drinks If I can't add more, just list all of the drinks with cream-price included Pros: the cream is very tasty you can tell the tea is real brewed tea Open until 10pm Small tweaks and this place could be a 5-star spot! read more

My go to order is their Winter Melon Tie Guan Yin Tea with QQ Noodle and No Ice. What's so amazing about this drink (you may or may not ask)? 1. The tea: TP Tea specializes in tie guan yin tea drinks. Tie guan yin is fermented, adding a unique, nutty flavor to the earthy aromatics of the tea. TP Tea does not compromise the distinctive flavor of the tea by overloading it with artificial sweeteners and flavoring, rather, they balance the oh-so-good flavors of the tea with the sweetness of the other flavors. 2. QQ Noodles: byebye boba , QQ noodles are the REAL deal. These chewy translucent tapioca noodles that you can slurp right up the straw are my go-to topping at TP Tea. They're one of the few boba shops in Berkeley that offers this option, and have really perfected their recipe for optimum chew - one that's neither too rubber nor too stiff. 3. The foam: I'm not sure how they do this, but...the foam cap on each beverage, when swirled into the drink, offers just the right hint of creaminess that doesn't leave you with the gastric discontent of a "cheese crema." I've probably been here like 10 times ever since this place opened and I can say for the first time I'm happy there's a new boba shop around the corner. In Berkeley there are like ten million different boba shops but this one does live to the hype. They have a line constantly in front of it any time of the day and they always have people come in and out. I have tried three of their drinks and so far my favorite is their strawberry milk tea. It's quite interesting because it's like a smoothie but it's not. It has the texture of a slushy but it's not. It almost is like a strawberry yakult in one. I also love their tie guan yin milk tea. I normally get around 50-80% for their sweetness and it always tastes great. What I like about this one that's different from other milk teas is the tea. The sugar doesn't overwhelm it and it just has a certain tea flavor that hits the spot. I also tried their passion fruit. Their passion fruit is a bit strong and if you like fruit teas then it's perfect for you. The passion fruit flavor was a bit overwhelming for me personally so i preferably get their other drinks. Their prices might be a bit steep but the drinks do come in large sizes which makes it a bit more worth. Every time I come here I'm content. Since then I couldn't stop thinking about it and wanted to buy another one with extra QQ noodle. Since we live kinda far, I was so excited to visit the store yesterday but was disappointed to find out they ran out of the QQ noodles at 3pm, but they were already sold out even before I got there. My trip wasn't wasted though because I also got the creamy mango drink which I also loved. I got it with 50% sugar and aloe. My second best drink at this spot. I came on a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn't busy. Compare with the Cupertino store locations, Berkeley's location is very slow. No line at all. However, I like this location. I order strawberry milk tea it's delicious, the downside is taste like smoothies, no tea taste which I wasn't looking for smoothie drink, I wish they can make it like normal milk tea. Walked into Taiwan Professional Tea on a warm weekday afternoon. The cashiers and tea makers looked busy and hard at work, so I used the self serve kiosk to place my order for a Passionfruit Green Tea with boba and less ice. They have two self serve kiosks, but you can also order from the cashier, and they accept contactless payments. My drink was ready in about 10 minutes and tasted amazing. The Passionfruit and greenntea were flavorful and refreshing and the size of the cup was just right. I felt reenergized as I drank it. TP Tea would also make a great spot to just chill or study. There are three tables inside with comfy looking chairs, so depending on the day and time it might be hard to find seating. I will definitely be back here to try more of their bobas. read more
