Standard boba. Not bad, not great. You order from a kiosk and your drinks are ready in under 5 minutes. I ordered the taro milk tea with soy milk + boba and my bf ordered the tiger milk tea. I'm sad to report the tiger milk tea had no stripes. It was just a regular brown sugar milk tea and did not deliver on the "tiger" aesthetics. The boba was fresh but it's the kind you can buy from the supermarket to make at home yourself. Nothing crave-worthy. For what it's worth, it was well-made. For the area, there are certainly other places you can go for boba. At least the non-dairy milk swap only had a $0.50 adder, a bit less expensive compared to other places. read more

Came here for some late night milk tea & boba with a friend of mine. Drinks came out pretty quickly but idk why the hype. I've had my fair share of great milk teas and there's was just okay. Don't know if I'd make a trek or ever pick this place over the many other boba spots. May just be convenience for the college folks as it is centrally located. Boba Ninja has always been my go-to spot for fried tofu. I love the seasoning they use and how well the sauces complement the dish--it used to be one of the highlights of my visits. Unfortunately, consistency has become a real issue. On my most recent visit, the tofu was oily, soggy, and honestly a little gross. It completely changed my perspective, and I left feeling very disappointed. I understand that every place can have an off day, but food quality should never dip this low. Something that used to be crisp and flavorful shouldn't arrive greasy and inedible. The employees are always so so nice and friendly. The fact that it's only a 10 min walk from campus is why I come here so often. For what you are paying for you get the most out of it. Without question, this is the best boba spot in all of Berkeley. There isn't a single shop that provides the quality of Boba aka tapioca pearls as Boba Ninja does. Pros and cons: + College student friendly hours: If you're craving some midnight snacks and drinks, Boba Ninja closes at 1AM Sun-Thurs and 2AM Fri-Sat. + Menu variety: They have several milk teas, fruit teas, lemonades, slushies, etc. to choose from. Topping selection is also decent. For food you can offer fries, wings, potstickers, tenders, spring rolls and more. + Popcorn Chicken: It's one of the few things I like from here. Good portions and always served piping hot. - Disposable cup charge: the city of Berkeley imposes a 25 cent fee on single-use cups, which is absolutely fine. The thing is, most businesses simply raise their prices to account for it and/or encourage their customers to bring in reusable drinkware. Boba Ninja does neither; they deceptively keep their prices low on the posted menu board, don't have the appropriate signage, and then tack it on at the end as an additional fee. I'm tired of my receipts looking like itemized hospital bills. What's the point of having a menu if the prices don't actually reflect what you will be charged in the end? Why don't you start adding a fee to cover the business license renewal then? - Terrible tea: Not a fan of the chalky texture. Which it shouldn't have, unless they're using powders. Boba Ninja is a small boba shop in the Durant food court area for many years. They stay opened late for your late night boba cravings as well (12 AM/1 AM depending on the day). Parking is tough on this street, especially in the evenings and weekends - everyone is doubled park along the street, so oncoming traffic gets backed up as well. This is one of the few boba shops that mandates a 'Berkeley Disposable Cup Charge' for some reason, which does not make sense because most of the stores do not have that. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with boba at 50% sweetness and less ice and the mango banana fruit blend with boba at 50% sweetness and less ice as well. The jasmine milk tea has a good creaminess to it and a good tea flavor as well. Surprisingly the banana has a more overpowering taste in the mango banana fruit blend with a sour/tangy mango taste to it. The boba was on the more chewier and softer side. read more

There is indoor ordering alongside two order kiosks outside. The seating area is shared among the multiple food places in the surrounding vicinity, so it definitely had a college vibe to it. Then again, UC Berkeley wasn't super far off, but I digress. Anyway, the popcorn chicken came with amazing portions. Definitely felt like a meal, and cheaper compared to the others in that area that felt less in terms of portions and value. I got a strawberry milk tea, large, no boba, no ice, 50% sugar. It was still quite sweet even at 50% and not particularly remarkable but it does satisfy a sugar craving. However, if you're looking for a hearty tea flavor, this is not the drink to get. At first I was trying to order using the Snackpass kiosk outside, but it seemed to glitch up and refresh itself multiple times - maybe the store or Snackpass was trying to install updates right then? I eventually gave up and went and ordered in person to the cashier. They do have a barrier up and the cashier stood far back, which is great for our and their safety. However, since there's a very narrow space that people can step into inside the store due to COVID-19 barriers put up, people kept coming close to me in order to interject and ask the cashier to hand them their orders that were ready, which was a little annoying. The drink was ready pretty quickly though, probably in around 5 minutes or less.
