How there's an overwhelming amount of milk tea joints around here. I get it - it makes me sound incredibly high maintenance, but it's no less true. When they're great, it's a good thing - it's always awesome to have that many at your disposal. When they're less than great, though? You can't help but see all of the different places you could've gone to instead, no matter which way you look... Now, to be fair, it's quite possible that my expectations for TP Tea were hyped up a bit too much. One of my old coworkers raves about the one down in Irvine all of the time, so I had heard nothing but amazing things about their drinks (albeit, about that location specifically). On the kiosk, the menu didn't seem overly impressive at first, but as you scroll through it, you realize it's sneaky interesting. Many of their offerings look like your typical sorts of Milk Teas, Fruit Teas, Creamas (Foams), Smoothies, and Matcha Lattes, but there are some interesting options within those, such as their Kyoto Uji Matcha drinks, Mango Tea Latte, and Brulee Tornados. Despite how tempting those more unique specialties sounded, I recognized one of my old coworker's favorites and opted to give it a shot - their JASMINE GREEN TEA CHEESE CREAM FOAM (Specialty Jasmine Green Tea Topped with their House Sea Salt Cheese Cream Foam). Since this isn't a type of drink I usually get, I don't have much to compare this against. As such, take this with a grain of salt...but I thought it was just okay. The foam was pretty tasty and had a nice thickness to it (THICC), but the tea still felt a little sweet even at 50%. Mixing the two definitely helped, both in terms of flavor and texture/consistency, but I'd be lying if I said I was suddenly going to order these more often. Given how much my old coworker loves TP Tea, as well as how their reviews are generally positive, I wonder if I just didn't order the right thing and/or if I happened to come on a bad night. I'm a class milk tea type of girlie and at first, I wasn't sure if there was a drink that would be similar to this on TP Tea's menu. My friend recommended I try their Tie Guan Yin latte which was a great substitute. It was creamy with the flavor of the bold tea underneath and delicious, especially when customized with boba and my preferred level of sweetness. Honestly their boba is bomb! We got the Thai Tea tornado (50% sweetness) and the Matcha Tornado (100% sweetness) and both were really good! I'm surprised that the TTT wasn't too sweet, considering that I'd get a lot of 50% or even lower sweetness levels at other boba places. But both tasted really good. Also the picture on the kiosk/menu on top depicted a different picture of the drinks but it wasn't like it took away from the actual experience of drinking the specialty drinks. The ambiance there was alright, it's really just a grab and go kind of place. And going off of that, you're not going to get much service there either. The employees were doing their job accordingly but there were no "hello's" or "goodbye's", only a "thank you" from my end. Oh well, at least the drinks were good. TP Tea seems to be such a popular place (I usually visit a Japanese store next door, and TP is always pretty busy) so I am glad I decided to finally stop by to get myself a very delicious tea! Lots of various options to choose from so there is something for everyone. My drink (honey lemon tea) was super flavorful, and I loved the fact that you can make it with no ice and no sugar. Tons of options to personalize your drink. I didn't have the app so I ordered using the screen by the counter, then you get an assigned number and wait for your tea. Finally got to try the location in San Mateo, since I usually go to the Cupertino location.
