I asked for deep tissue and stressed that I really needed it on my shoulders and that should be the focus. Stellaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!! I started going to Stella for my waxing needs a million years ago when she was at Bliss. And then I moved away and lamented every five weeks that I didn't have her in my life anymore. One of the best things about moving back to NYC has been reuniting with Stella!! She is absolutely the BEST waxer ever. Quick and efficient, I'm in and out in no time at all. She uses a gentle lavender wax which minimizes pain, but it is still just as effective as hard or honey wax in removing hair. Her prices are totally reasonable! And if ever she is to busy to take me for a last minute appointment, I've always been able to sneak in with the equally lovable Antoinetta. Hey all I've been living in the city for close to two years now and haven't really found a good place that does full body massages and facials at a reasonable price until now. I actually found this spa on yelp thought I'd try it out. I've been going there for the passed 4 months and really love it so I decided I'd write a review. It's kinda small but they offer great service and greet me with a smile. Their masseuse is great and knows exactly the right trigger points. what I really love about them is they always listen and take criticism very well.. This was a major problem that I had while finding a good spa.. I'm very particular and other spas just thought I was teaching them how to do their job. not many ppl know about it which is good and you don't have to wait.. And it's next to a modeling agency .. The ladies here are very nice, and it seems like the spa is great for hair removal. However, I would NOT recommend for mani/pedi. They lacked even the most basic elements of the manicure pedicure that you would get at any other salon-no lotion, no hot towel. I don't expect anything crazy-fancy when I'm getting a deal of Groupon, but these are the basics! The polish selection was extremely limited and the "quick dry top coat" (which costs and extra $1 despite the fact that they don't have dryers) did nothing. My pedicure was ruined as soon as I walked out the door. I went with my gf this afternoon. I got a massage and a pedicure. The massage was done by Vita. She had a strong hand. It was great. We took advantage of the Spa Week specials. So an hour of massage cost about $59. Well worth it. The pedicure was good but didn't stand out. I had more thorough pedicure at a place on LES. So overall a good experience. Highly disappointed!!! :-( Be sure to ask a lot of questions before booking an appointment here,especially if you are on a groupon deal. I booked a mani-pedi. After jogging to get to the place for 45min was told to wait. 20 min later i was told they could not remove gel manicure and was recommended to go have it removed elsewhere. I told the lady i wish they had mentioned something about not being able to do such a service when I had booked.... All I got back was a shrug accompanied by "I'm sorry". After an exhausting day at work and all that rush to get there i was really upset and disappointed. Either their all the marketing about being so amazing that multiple celebrities have been there is fake or they just pick and chose how they treat their customers... I bought a Groupon for a mani/pedi and I am pretty disappointed about this. First, their color selection is not that great. You're very limited. The person that did my mani/pedi was not great either, I believe her name was Natalia. She is a very nice lady, but she's not a very good nail technician. She cut the side of my finger and she didn't file my nails properly. Jagged edges, uneven filing of nails, polish on my skin, top coat not evenly applied.. The list just goes on and on. I bought 2 mani/pedi deals, but I'm debating if it's even worth going back here. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Don't even know where to start. Ok, yes I do -- Irina is the absolute best! I absolutely adore her for so many reasons: she is accommodating, professional, a super friendly person (someone I would want to be friends with if I met her outside of the spa situation)! There is no way you can go wrong at this place because this girl knows whats up. In my opinion, this nice little spot is just right. Its unassuming yet comfortable. I always feel welcomed and relaxed. When I said accommodating before, that is the understatement. This place has 7 days a week hours and open til late -- I think even 9pm sometimes, but you should call about that. I have had to change appointments last minute a couple times, and have never been reprimanded or charged for this. Im not suggesting that you abuse this courtesy, but here and there we all have changes, they will try to help you without making you feel terrible! Since I have been going there for laser hair removal on my legs, I will focus on that now. First of all, this is the FOURTH place I have gone to for laser hair removal on my legs. All have been Groupons. The first was a full blown medical dermatology office. The second was a "certified" laser center, and the the third was a place on 8th street that never explained it was a non-permanent laser, and on top of it, suddenly was boarded up shut down on my appointment without a call or sign or anything. Needless to say, all of these places were worthless, not to mention various customer service issues that really did not make my dreams come true. The outcome at these places were all empty promises, hence why I had to start from square one again. FINALLY, at TQ, Irina has banished the leg hair completely. I only just completed the 4th visit on a 6 visit package and i feel like there is no point in doing the next visits. The results are SO mind-blowing, I just bought another package for my underarms, because, lets face it, no-one can really see for themselves if they missed a spot underarms and that can be embarrassing..... Do yourself a favor and at least check this place out during Spa Week in Oct. They are doing any service offered for $50 (Im pretty sure I got that right). This is the first time in my 10+ years of using Yelp I've actually sat down to write a review. In fact I went out of my way so I wouldn't have to do this- I have left several Voice Mails and sent e-mails to TQ Spa hoping to deal with the matter privately, but I cannot get a response so here I am. I am doing this to save you your time and $$$- PLEASE dont make the same mistake I have. I actually look like a Clown. I have NEVER been more disgusted and disappointed with an establishment in my life This place is horrifying. First of all the place REEKED of cigarettes, i should have walked out right then and there BUT against my better judgement I stayed because I was so excited. I went in to get the Microblading done on my eyebrows- something I have gotten done a couple times over the past 5 years.. so I am familiar with what you expect. It started off OK.. we drew in the shape, went over the color, did the numbing cream- everything seemed to be on the right tract.. it wasn't until she took the actual blade to my face that I realized she had no idea what she is doing. She did everything I asked her NOT to do, the shape is literally terrifying and now i'm stuck with it for the next couple of years. At one point she actually gave me the blade to draw the lines so she could trace them because couldn't do it.. and then said "you should take microblading classes." HAVE YOUUUUUUUUUU????.. my eyebrows couldnt look more different. I have random strokes on my arch and one its much longer than the other.. I am beyond sad and embarrassed. I had a Groupon booked with 1h massage and 1h facial. It was the best Groupon spa deal I have gotten so far! Highly recommended, especially for the cost. The massage was pretty good.. Nor spectacular, but I'm a huge fan of Thai massage, and am usually always disappointed with spa massages. He really paid attention to my directions, and took time to try and get the knots out. The facial was awesome. Love Stella! Her extractions were phenomenal.. All the lotions and products used were wonderful. I really felt like I was in very good hands. Irina the owner, literally treated us like queens. She gave us both white wine, and were accommodating even though we were late. We had a private room for ourselves (we were two friends getting a couples massage) while we waited. Then we had our own masseuses who were so nice and listened to our needs. One of which was an aesthetician, and took care of black heads. We truly enjoyed ourselves, and felt personally taken care of. If you want a really honest and genuine experience that will leave you feeling relaxed from the tender love and care you must come to TQ Spa. They treat their clients so well. I've gone to TQ 4x so far for laser hair removal and I have to say that I used to dread it because I would always break out on my face from the other person that used to do it for me. My skin has never reacted terribly from any of my visits to TQ. I mostly see Irena, she's very sweet and friendly. My best friend and her other friends have been going there forever and always refer people over. I will be sticking to TQ for my basically painless hair removal! read more

Came here for a full body couples massage with my boyfriend, who bought it for me/us as a holiday gift. I have to say, the staff was lovely and the massage itself was wonderfullll (except for the less-than-relaxing and very hard/brash scrub with tough towels after each body part was oiled and massaged). I give 3 stars because I consider the ambiance before and during the massage as important as the massage itself. The spa lobby was squished and tiny, with only 2 random and uncomfortable chairs for waiting. I would barely even call it a lobby. It definitely looked like a low brow place. I could overlook that if I got into the spa room and it was relaxing, well decorated, good music, robes to change into...nothing. Just a hole in the wall. I could get over all of this if when I laid down for the massage (which again, the rubbing down itself was fantastic) I was relaxed and transported away from stressful NYC. But the music that was on THE ENTIRE HOUR of our massage was NOT relaxing spa music. It was modern relaxing pop music with lyrics (some of it techno/EDM) which I found did not let my brain relax. It honestly ruined the entire experience for me. Very frustrating. That being said - quite an easy fix so I hope the owners will read this and adjust. All in all, because the massage itself was so good and the ambiance so sub par, I would come here if I need a service just to "get the job done" but not if it's a special occasion, if you're trying to impress/gift someone or if you care about ambiance. read more

I write this as a cautionary tale. I had a brazilian wax and it was the most painful & inefficient waxing I have ever had. The technician definitely was trying but the wax, I was told, was new and it did not work. It was terrible. Not to mention, I was seen 30 mins late and it waxing took 45mins! I love Stella for so many reasons, she's funny, attentive, is always trying to keep things natural and chemical free.. She does a fantastic job every time. I get full leg and brazilians, lip and eyebrow wax and walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. She takes pride in her work and wants to make you feel beautiful and comfortable at the same time. I preface all of this by saying I rarely write reviews for poor service. In fact, the service has to be downright horrible for me to take the time to review. The highlights: I have been to various spas over the past 20 years and this was, by far, the worst. Appointment times mean nothing because they take walk ins. Total lack of professionalism: didn't apologize for their mistake but blamed the masseuse for working too slowly. The waiting room is two chairs backed up to the check in desk and cornered by a manicure table. Decor isn't a big deal to me as long as the service is good, but I spent more time in that than I expected. The employees talk and laugh so loudly, I can't imagine anyone is actually able to enjoy a massage. Our trip to TQ SPA: We made a 2 pm appointment for a massage and arrived 10 minutes early per their instructions. Keep this in mind: THEY TOLD US TO MAKE SURE WE WERE THERE EARLY. When we walked in, we were told it would be a few minutes. We sat and waited. After 15 minutes, the woman said it would just be a few more minutes. We continued to wait. At 2:30, I asked how much longer it would be because we had other events scheduled that afternoon/evening. She said they were just finishing up. At 2:45 we decided not to wait any longer. They knew the room would be in use and still had us sit there for 50 minutes. If this was a halfway decent business, they would have apologized for double booking when we arrived (there was a couple who walked in two seconds after us and they were immediately brought into the massage room) and would have told us we would have to wait an hour. Instead, they said nothing and blamed it on the masseuse, "saying she just works slow." My wife and I were taking a weekend trip to the city and we wanted to start it with a nice couples massage. Because of TQ Spa, our weekend getaway started off terribly. We'll make the most of it despite their lack of professionalism, but I will never again even entertain the idea of going to TQ Spa. read more

Has to be the best place that I've been to! I started with under arm laser hair removal (skeptical at first) but had results after my first session! I'm now complete with my under arms (sooooo totally worth it - and I had amazing results!) now I've started on my legs! Irina did a great job and was super friendly, explained everything that she was doing! Their other services are also second to none - treat yourself to a mani pedi there (mine lasted 2 weeks on my hands and a month on my toes!!!!) Some background - I have known Stella (may she rest in peace) since her days at Bliss. I followed her to her first business on 23rd St and then went with her to 26th Street now known as TQ Spa. There was no one like Stella in my book. Her work was meticulous and she knew what she was doing. And her pedicures and manicures were exceptional as were her facials. And if I had a small back pain, her magic hands would get rid of it. I miss her every day but know she is watching over all of us who knew and loved her. So, when TQ Spa opened up under new ownership, I was happy to try and see if it measured up. IT DOES! Irina is the owner and she and her team are wonderful. They make you feel like you are part of their family. In addition, their services are equal to Stella (if you can believe that). I thought no one else existed like Stella - but they do and Irina has found them. Thank you Irina and team for keeping Stella's memory and dream alive. You now have a new loyal member of your family. I honestly don't know how this place managed to get 4 stars, but I know a couple of people here have written bad reviews about their mani-pedi's, and I'm writing to confirm that it's the worst mani-pedi I've ever gotten. What the other reviewers said about this place is true. Not only do they not have the proper tools for the job, it's totally unsanitary as well. I thought it was a dry pedicure at first, which would've been fine, but then the technician brought out this basin of water for my feet. It was a bit odd, but I went with it to be polite. Also, the technician, who didn't understand English, cut my toe and denied it. It was a weird experience and wouldn't go back even if it was free. I want to echo what another reviewer wrote: this isn't a spa-like setting. This is in an apartment-like complex, poorly signed, with curtains and half-height walls that attempt to "separate" rooms/spaces. If you use the toilet, beware because EVERYONE (staff and clients) will hear you pee. I go to the spa to experience a relaxing setting; this spa fails miserably to deliver a spa-like atmosphere. In terms of service, I had a very similar experience as another reviewer. I purchased a groupon for a massage and facial. The deep-tissue massage was mediocre, at best. Beyond awful. You may think that $65 is cheap for a manicure/pedicure/facial but after the service and experience I feel totally robbed. The facial was an odd facial rub that took place while a man got massaged right next to me (a broken curtain separated us) and the beautician tried to upsell me half way through it while I was trying to relax (which was impossible to do). It is hard to write this review because my nails/cuticles are sore from being cut so aggressively (the manicurist was on her iPhone while she was doing my nails). i called for an emergency brazilian 2 days before a trip and the call seemed to re-route to stella's cellphone when the spa is closed. i was around the neighborhood and stella took me in right away before they even opened, with no appointment or anything. needless to say, i was amazed at how accomodating and friendly stella was! and the brazilian wax was amazing! painful as always, but she did it in about 10mins, maybe less, then she warns you when she was gonna pull the strip, and she applies pressure afterwards so it wasn't as bad. at other places, it takes at least 15mins and i bleed a little afterwards, but stella did an amazing job! for a decent price ($60ish), i would HIGHLY recommend coming here and i am definitely coming back! read more

Irinia did my permanent eyebrows today...I love it! ... It was my second visit. The first time I went was 4 weeks ago...The spacing between my eyebrows was not to my liking. My eyebrows were a little too thin. I recommend that you go with a black eyebrow pencil so that you can draw the shape that you want. DO NOT RELY ON THEIR PICTURES. You may not see something that goes with your face. I went back for my touch up today and I am very pleased. Irinia took her time and was meticulous. She worked magic on my eyebrows.
