I called prior to my appointment to ask if it were at all possible to be seen earlier than my scheduled appointment time and the lady who answered the phone said that it would not. No problem. My appointment was for 1pm and I arrived at 12:15pm. I told her that I knew I was early but that I would wait. The lady that was sitting at the reception area told me that they would attend to me anyways. She then asked me for $3.98 for tax that was not included with my Groupon purchase. No problem. I'm not sure if the lady who answered the phone when I called was the same one who was there when I arrived but whatever. No biggie. She directed me to the room where my massage would be. The room was tiny and the walls were very thin. As I sat down to remove my sneakers I hit the wall by mistake and thought I felt the wall shake. Seriously. LOL A few minutes later the massage therapist/lady came in and she asked me what part of my body I would like her to focus on and I told her my neck and my shoulders. Unfortunately, she focused 90% of the entire massage there. It was okay but that's not what I paid for. The bed was off to one side of the room, against a wall so ever time she went to massage one side of my shoulder/back she slide the bed over to the other side. It felt weird. There was something underneath the bed because a few times she hit it by mistake with her foot. She then excused herself so that she can go get the hot stones. They were pretty hot but they did feel good. Throughout my massage I could hear someone's cell phone ringing (twice) and cleaning going on. All in all, it was worth what I paid but it wasn't very relaxing, very clean or very comfortable. I had a Groupon for two massages, and both times I had to wait at least 15 minutes even though I had an appointment. Once in the room, it was fiiine - nothing fancy. The massage itself wasn't great, not absolutely terrible but like someone else said, the masseuse seemed very distracted and kept doing things only on one side and then would move on, or almost stop because she was clearly listening to something happening outside of the room (which you can hear pretty clearly). The worst part was that she opened the door several times to talk to someone in the hall...meaning not only did the massage I paid for stop 4-5 times for a few minutes each time, but I was HALF-NAKED on the table (like towel tucked into my underwear), and she kept opening it to say something to another staff member and I was just left laying there. She never apologized when she came back in, just kept going. She also kept burping which I get you can't help sometimes, but it certainly wasn't helping with the relaxing atmosphere -__- Lastly, both times, I was told that next time I came in I would get a "free 10 minutes, no charge" added on, but the second time not only did I not get the free 10-minutes but the massage was shorter than the 60 minutes I paid for...again. And THEN when I was about to leave she asked for a tip, and when I said I only had $5 she said "I really think you should give more". They called me 6 times to reschedule my appointment between the hours of 1:00-10:30pm. Given I'd already confirmed my appointment 3 times I stopped answering so they proceeded to text me at 10:30 at night asking to change appointment times. I received a Groupon voucher for a message at Beauty Spa Soho as a birthday present. While I'm really thankful for the gift, I can't say I would ask for a message here again. First of all, no $40 + tax and tip message will compare to an actual licensed message therapist. I can't really blame the masseuse because I doubt she's had the kind of training or experience you need for effective bodywork. So that was my bad - I should've managed my expectations. The message I got was rough and kind of painful. That said, she asked numerous times if I was okay and if the pressure was alright. I appreciate that she adjusted based on my feedback, but it was still too much. I was sore for the next few days. Everyone is right about how difficult it is to schedule a message here. Here's the short version: no protective eyewear during IPL treatment, big, ugly red mark left on face that stayed for 4 days, horrible massage. Read on for details. I came here because I wanted an IPL treatment and a deep clean facial and they had a groupon. I checked their website and they had a great special for a facial + 30 min. massage, so I booked all 3. A few seconds into the massage she offered to increase it to a 60-min. for only $20 more, which sounds great, but was a waste of time, as this was one of the worst massages I've ever had. I almost told her to forget the upgrade about 15 minutes in, but I didn't want to be mean. Next time I'll be sure to test out the skills before I agree to more time. Here are some of the lowlights: 1. She basically just rubbed my skin briskly, so much so that I felt like I was getting chafed at a couple of points. There was no deep-muscle rubbing, it was all very surface and didn't feel good at all. The few times that she went a little deeper, she was just rubbing my bones back and forth, which hurt. 2. She was all thumbs. 3.She asked me what areas I'd like her to concentrate on and then completely ignored what I said (legs, upper back, lower back, arms) and spent most of the time on my middle back, up and down the spine, which does nothing for me. I work out a lot and have sore muscles that need some attention. I am fully aware that these places don't have certified masseurs working there, but you have to do better than rubbing skin with thumbs up and down the spine. 4. The worst part is that is was totally uneven! She did the left arm but not the right, and did the left lower leg TWICE (which is great! I need my legs done, as I told her when she asked!), but completely SKIPPED my right lower leg!! SO ANNOYING and totally lame. I could tell at several points she was just zoning out because her movements would slow down and almost stop, and then start rubbing my skin with her thumbs again. Never told me to flip over. Then we moved on to the facial. It was very 'meh' until the extractions, which were a disaster that left a big, fat red mark covering half my nose for FOUR DAYS. 1. she started extractions as soon as she started the steam, which, I thought you steamed for a bit first to soften them up? 2. At first she used a needle (I think), which hurt like hell. I've had extractions many times before and this was the most painful. 3. But she quickly changed to using some mechanical sucking device that was the strangest sensation ever, felt like she was scraping my skin off, which it turns out she maybe kind of was, because she was dragging the device across my skin while it sucked. This is what left a terrible red mark along 1/2 of my nose. She kept telling me it would be gone in 1-4 hours, and I kept asking her what to put on it to help it fade faster, as I was going away for the weekend with friends and looked like I had an enormous hickey on my nose, and she kept saying it would go away. I asked what to do if it didn't and she just kept saying it would. Well, it definitely didn't go away and I had to apply cover-up for 4 days. It's still there now, but faded. Not acceptable. She shouldn't be using that device as she is not properly trained on how. 4. She didn't ever tell me what she was doing or about to do, so when she attacked my blackheads with the pin and the device, it took me by complete surprise and I had no idea what was happening. Extremely un-relaxing. The IPL portion was performed by someone else, who seemed to be the owner or manager. This portion of the whole experience was ok, but as it was my first experience, I didn't know what to expect. HOWEVER, I have had laser treatments before and you ALWAYS have to wear protective eyewear and this place did not give any--she just put a wet paper towel over my eyes. Again, I should have said something immediately, but I am a wuss and it's something I need to work on. I have no idea if the IPL will be effective, but the dark spots are supposed to kind of scab up and shed off and that didn't happen to me. Luckily it wasn't terribly expensive, but it was a huge waste of time and caused actual damage to my body, maybe just mild (like the nose bruise) but maybe potentially more serious (like my eyes from no protective gear). On the upside: both women were very polite. I actually feel bad writing such a bad review, but this shit is totally unprofessional and a total waste of my time. read more

i found this place through Groupon so I purchased a couples hot stone massage for $89 for an hour. When i was leaving, the front desk lady informed me that I had to pay $7.xx more for tax because I made my purchase through Groupon. My boyfriend and I made a reservation for Saturday. The staff in the front was very friendly. Overall my massage was really good. I had a male masseuse and my boyfriend had a female masseuse. I wasn't sure why the masseuses were arranged that way but I shouldn't be complaining because he did a really good job in taking my knots out. Although there were a couple of times, I felt like it was really painful but I assumed it was to help me get rid of my knots. After our massage was over, my boyfriend and I compared our experiences. Apparently we both had very different experiences. My masseuse cracked my back while he was working on my back, that didn't happen for my boyfriend. My masseuse placed my hands behind my back to stretch out my shoulders (nearly flipping me over with my boobs flashing him; on both sides), didn't happen for my boyfriend. My MALE masseuse re positioned my underwear to massage my lower body. He massaged my buttocks, thighs, and calves but my boyfriend only had his thighs and calves massaged. As a female, I felt a little violated because there was no need for the masseuse to re-position my underwear so his BARE HANDS was on my buttocks, he could have massaged my buttocks with a towel between his hands and my bare skin. Also, he asked me to turn over while my bra was off, I tried to cover my breast as i was turning over and he lifted up the towel to fix the towel. I felt that it was inappropriate and because of this, I am having mix feelings about coming back. I understand that every masseuse has their own technique and everyone has a different body type but after comparing my massage to my boyfriend's, he did not get as much out of this massage as I did. My masseuse then started massaging both of us. I then looked up and asked my masseuse to just work on my boyfriend. The woman came back in after the phone call and started on me again, saying she'll make up for the missed time. That one time of her leaving, understandable. But this happened about 3-4 times. She interrupted my hour massage 3-4 times and only added an extra 5 minutes at the end. THEN, after we were done, I tipped $10 and she asked for more!!! I used a Livingsocial voucher for an hour massage. I arrived 15 minutes early for my 3:30 appointment and after taking my voucher, the front desk person left and never appeared again. At 3:30 a younger lady came out and directed me into a room that had two tables and no ambience (soft music, candles, mood lighting)...I was told to take my clothes off and lie down which I did for about 20 minutes..in addition, the room I was in was very close to the front door so with no one at the desk, the New Yorker in me had to lock the door for safety.
