My husband booked this place for our 4 year wedding anniversary. This was my first time coming here. Overall customer service was great. This is a local place lots of people come here to enjoy some tasty grilled cooked meals. We ordered steak and smash potatoes overall the food was good. We shared a wedge salad which was very delicious. The filet mignon tastes like grilled over maybe mesquite wood or charcoal, no idea, it was definitely different for me but I wasn't a total fan. However it was nice and tender for sure! The smashed potatoes I ordered with the garlic herb and it was good. I didn't want the beans so asked not to include them. The waitress gave us a basket of garlic bread which was yummy. The ambiance was laid back kinda place. We saw a table celebrating a birthday. We sat by the bar area, a little towards to from of the building as opposed to the back room where there's a tree in the middle of the restaurant, which I didn't get to see. read more

Two Words...Beef Ribs! I had been hunting for some REALLY good no-nonsense ribs for awhile and I cannot tell you how COMPLETELY satisfied I felt the second I dropped that last bare rib bone down on my plate. The flavor...the tenderness...that kiss BBQ sauce and tasty char right on the end rib. It's not slathered in BBQ and just crispy enough in all the right places. The moment I was done...I knew I'd be back. My brother and his wife got the dinner for two porterhouse and lobster and could not stop commenting on how good it was. Everything was delicious (as proved by the before and after photos). No meat was left...uneaten! The staff was great and always checked in at the right times. Definitely made sure you were good and then let you be to enjoy your massive meal in peace (which I appreciated as I savagely ate my bbq beef ribs. I also made my brother wear a tie hehe. He didn't know why I requested it but it was fun to see him and his wife enough the experience of getting his tie cut off and then walking into the very unique ambiance of hanging ties everywhere. Make sure to wear a tie if you go here!! It's a strictly "no-tie" policy and they'll cut it off then hang it up if you wear one. It's a fun way to start off your experience. The inside is fairly dark and filled with old items like a jukebox, pictures, ties from over the decades. It feels like going to a small town restaurant that's far removed from urban sprawl. The servers were all very nice and helpful making the experience even better. We came here to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday as he had never been, neither had I. We all got steaks of course, unfortunately I really messed up getting pics of the whole meal! So enjoy the few I did take, just know they don't do it justice. I started off with a side salad, my fiancé got a side caesar salad, and my dad got a wedge. The regular side salad was delicious with blue cheese dressing, the caesar dressing was one of the best I've had, and the wedge was HUGE with delicious big pieces of freshly cooked bacon on top. They serve free garlic toast with the meal which was perfect with the salads and the steaks. My sister and her fiancé got filets, my dad got a new york strip, and I shared a 27oz porterhouse with my fiancé. Everything was cooked to exactly as ordered with nice grill marks. They only cook over charcoal, no gas or electric. The flavor the open flame gives a steak is tough to beat. Each plate also came with beans and more garlic toast. I will say the steak was slightly under seasoned, could use a bit more salt. The beans were so good I even drank the sauce they came in after the beans were gone! Hidden Gem. I've been coming here since I was little kid it's truly one of a kind. The famous Nixon got his tie cut here. So much history here. My husband and I finally tried out the famous "tie cutting" steakhouse! We've been wanting to come here and we came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We sat in the tree room which is really cool. We ordered the iron skillet mushroom, artichoke appetizer, salmon entree and the ribs. Everything was great and serving size is large so enough to share and take home. Wow, what a throwback spot! First of all, you have to drive thru the canyon so the location is already rustic to being with. It's an old structure with lots of character! Valet parking is mandatory (and complimentary). Our large party was seated in the back, which was dimly lit and full of ties hanging all over the place, lol. I LOVED this place. I felt like I had completely escaped Orange County for the evening. The hostess gave us the history of the place as she walked us to our table. The building was originally built by a man as his home. A few decades later he sold it to a woman who made it a restaurant. It's built around trees and their stumps still protrude around the tables and walls. The cutting off of the ties was so cute, too. My partner was bummed he didn't wear one! Once we were sat, it did take a while for a server to take our order. But, once it was taken, food and drink came out quickly. Their menu is so affordable. I think the most expensive item I spotted was filet mignon for $50. My partner and I both indulged in the Thursday Night Specials. He got the Beef Ribs & Fries ($25) and I got the 10 oz Flat Iron Steak ($33). Both were delicious and no nonsense. Never been here before! Checked it out for my dad's birthday. My whole party each got a steak and I opted for a pasta after a late lunch. Everything was great! No complaints on the food and the party of 4 was happy! Our dessert was fantastic as well. My espresso martini was missing espresso beans :( it was tasty though. Very strong. Service was good, our waitress was so sweet. I think the prices were pretty fair for the food. I do think where we were sat was a bit cramped. They had three tables back to back to back and we were in the middle table. I really felt like everyone around us was listening to our conversations, forcing us to talk quietly. This quirky fun spot is located adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest. It opened in the 60's and it hasn't changed much since. The waitress was really knowledgeable of the history of the place and we never felt rushed. I had a martini which was very good. We split the appetizer, hot mushrooms and zucchini, which was very good. I had the bbq beef ribs which were delicious. My wife had the chef's salad with sirloin tips and she remarked that the salad was fresh and the tips delicious. This restaurant is VERY casual and relaxed. Not overly pricey. read more

This was my first time, as part of a 30+ size group of friends and it was a very positive experience. My table's server, Yvette was warm and attentive as she took our orders. We all skipped appys and went for a variety of entrees. Mine was a special: flat iron steak, done to medium. It was well seasoned and full of beefy goodness. I didn't use any sauces as it didn't need it. My friends ordered a variety of things, including prime rib, a patty melt, a sirloin steak and salmon, and all were quite happy with their orders except for a couple of comments that the salmon was a bit overcooked and a little dry. Desserts were cheesecake and Gizmo, both delish. All in all, the restaurant took great care of our group and we were quite happy. We came here on a Thursday night to celebrate my husband's birthday. It's a nice drive on the back end of el toro. We had great service and our food came out quick. Great ambiance feels like we were in a cave. It's known as a strict no tie place, if you wear a neck tie they will cut it off and display it on their wall. My family and I recently dined at Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing especially for Father's Day and I made reservations a month ago. We were seated in the bar area instead of the main dining room, (hanging ties) which wasn't ideal, but the biggest issue was the service. Our waitress took an unusually long time just to come over and take our order. Throughout the evening, the service was slow and inattentive. What made it even more frustrating was watching multiple parties who were seated after us receive their food well before we did, finish their meals, pay, and leave while we were still waiting. It really felt like our table had been forgotten. We've heard great things about Trabuco Oaks and were looking forward to our visit, but the poor service overshadowed the entire experience. We went for a celebration and had made our reservation five weeks in advance. We were sat awkwardly in the front bar area at a wobbly high-top right next to the service bar. The bar was basically empty except for two other tables, and with no one at the bartop it just felt a little sad. There was also no music on at all, which added to that feeling. It would have been nice to be in the actual restaurant area in the back where the lighting is brighter and you get more of the classic cut-off-ties vibe the place is known for. Our server was nice and the service was good. The food I liked--definitely from a certain era, but sometimes it's nice to just go have a straightforward steak without it being a whole thing. The drinks are what you would imagine - I totally understand the vibe here but drinks and wine selection could still be improved. Got a few apps Onion Rings - so good Mixed Large Skillet of Mushrooms and Zucchini- good Grilled Artichoke (I know we're those people) - good Entrees Everyone ended up with steak in our group. I had the porterhouse for two shared with my husband. Def enough food for two it came with sides we got a baked potato and Mac and cheese and they were good. Best thing in my opinion are the steak butter/sauces they do - they are delicious get them all and try them out. Parking - have valet Vibe - the place is very old school OC which I loved. It is clear they truly know how to prepare and cook their steaks to perfection. My wife had the Lil' Wrangler with a baked potato, and hers was just as good, juicy, well seasoned, and cooked just right. This place is a hole in a wall, very unique due to the western style interior with bunch of ties on the walls. Trabuco canyon oaks is located in a deserted area, only open on Friday to Sunday and parking is valet (free for diners). It was pretty packed at 6:30 pm on a Saturday. For drinks we shared a bottle of red wine, and chefs salad. I got the beef rib for my main ($38) came with side of beans and garlic bread. The beef rib was tender and rice! Portion is huge so it's 2-3 meals for me. The others for steak and chicken dishes. For dessert we shared pineapple cake and churro with ice cream. The pineapple cake was delicious. We've been coming here for awhile. We do like the food for the most part however, my twins chose this place for their bday dinner. When I told our server (older man) about their bday he said ok. We ordered a tomahawk steak, chicken Marcella and a burger. Our bill was way over $200. When their bday dessert was brought out he only brought one. I thought maybe he forgot so I reminded him that it was both of their bdays he made a comment but I didn't hear clearly. I think I server was lazy and could have brought out an other one. Reservation with a wait time, no big deal. However the feeling of bothering her from the moment we walked in was very much felt! Wait time to even place a drink was longer than. Most places and people that were seated after us were helped out first. ( seemed like they knew them) Our server was very pleasant and informative when making recommendations.
