Very misleading!! I thought I was coming to this gym to exercise and get healthy. But it turns out on top of that I have gained a lot of confidence. Now I can't stop talking to girls and I'm addicted to learning jiu jitsu. This was a life-changing gym for my mental and physical health. A recent job move to Long Beach had me looking for a new place to work out. Now I'm not one of these douches with some half added dream of stepping into the octagon or looking to pick fights at the Pike. Just looking to enhance my workout routine with some new variety. Stopped by to give this place a shot based off past reviews (side note: These other reviews are clearly written with influence from the owner) Boy did was I in for a shock. After a quick conversation with the owner it was clear that his only intention was to sell me his program based off his ... Well let's call it what it is AMATEUR accolades. I guess if Al Bundy always bragged about his 4 touchdown in a single game and this guy pretty much does the same thing. All I kept hearing was what "I Had Done" what "I'm Going To Do" and what "I Could Have Done". Sure bro congrats on once kicking some guys ass outside a bar and sure buddy I'll believe you could have gone pro on the UFC had it not been for the politics. Since I was there I figured lets give this one shot. Well all I did was waste my time. Well it sure was a waste all I rember was a dirty gym, old equipment and the owner trying to show off. From the outside looking in, it appears the students are extremely motivated and have an excellent time. Tracy Hess, is a phenomenal coach and an amazing person. I joined his gym about a year ago, quite apprehensive for I had no prior experience in MMA . Tracy made my transition so smooth I wondered why i did not join sooner. He makes sure the class is a family. Every day from 7:30-?pm nothing else mattered it was family MMA time. The students at Sub Fighter are not arrogant, Cocky, egoistic fighter's, Tracy's gym is filled with students who are willing to teach and get better. The atmosphere as subfighter is second to none. Coach Hess is patient, and hands on! He will never make you feel silly or humiliated for not knowing something, instead he will teach you, he will do it in a way so that you do not feel called out, and so that you learn it. It's a wonderful environment, whatever your goals. If you want to compete in Grappling Tournaments or MMA events, there are some really talented fighters that train here. Tracy Hess is a great trainer, friend and knows the world of MMA very well. His credentials speak for itself. Look him up in Sherdog and YouTube. He is very knowledgeable in the ground game of jitz, wrestling and grappling. A world where I feel comfortable in. I consider myself a decent grappler and my teammates kick my ass all the time and remind me why I need to continue training to get better. His gym has some of the coolest guys and best teammates I've trained with. Boxing and Muay Thai is pretty good. David puts on the instruction. Very good coach in the striking. I won my first amateur fight this summer. I am truly blessed to have the best teammates and training partners in the world. This is a legit MMA gym if you want to become a fighter or get even better.
