Since the salon is located in Downtown Redwood City, there will not be any free parking as everything is metered street parking - Bring some quarters. Spruce Salon is taking every Covid-19 precaution possible - Only a limited number of stylists are allowed to work at a time {with chairs more than 6 feet apart}, each stylist is only allow to service one client at a time, both the stylist and the client must wear a mask the entire time and a temperature check is given prior to entering the salon. All of these procedures made me feel super comfortable in being in a salon again. My husband has been going to Spruce for years for his haircuts and raved about Nicole, so I decided to give her a shot when going in for a full highlight and a haircut - I am beyond thrilled to have found Nicole - She is a Hair Genius! I am a very easy going person and my hair is the one thing that I can tend to get picky about so I usually go into a salon with several pictures of what I am looking for {and as someone who previously managed salons/spas for years and years, I know this can be a stylists nightmare} - Nicole was amazing and looked through all of my pictures and I put my trust in her to see my vision - She exceeded what I was looking for 10 fold! Not only is she a stellar stylist, but she is beyond friendly and really listens to the clients needs/wants. The pricing is very comparable to other salons in the area, and in my opinion, it was less than I was looking to spend for such a great experience. Booked the same day and I asked for a haircut. I had a previous hair stylist and bleach done elsewhere, so my hair is very damaged and dry-- I got a trim, layered cut, and blow dry by Ellie! Overall, it was such a great experience! Ellie M. is the best! for haircuts and learning so much about it your hair's needs and what can be good for you! The price is super fair and the haircut actually looks great -- clean, sharp, and I always leave looking more put-together. My family notices it too and always says it looks good. What I really appreciate is how efficient he is. I usually sneak out on a Friday or during the week, and he can get me in and out in about 30 minutes without rushing. I've never been late back to work. Minh has been steady and reliable the whole time, and I'll definitely keep coming back. Highly recommend.

I called ahead worried that I couldn't make my appointment to try to be considerate. No one answered because they don't have a dedicated person answering the phone. I left a message requesting a call back. No one called me so I figured it was too late. I made a 2 hour drive to make it to my appointment only to find out that they considered me canceled without returning my call. I was upset clearly. And I would have left it alone but as I was standing outside texting I could then hear the ladies talking about me. First salon ever to make me feel bad about trying to honor an appointment.

I had my hair cut by Patty and she did not listen to what I wanted done. I told her I wanted a…read moretrim, and because I have very thin and fine hair, I didn't want layers since I'm trying to maintain as much volume as possible. She suggested long layers, which I thought just meant adding some subtle layering near the ends. So I agreed but emphasized that I wanted very minimal layers. She ended up thinning out my ends and making my hair look thinner and scraggly. The ends honestly looked like I hadn't gotten a trim in 6 months, which was what I had done and my hair looked better going in than when I came out. I told her that she thinned my hair out too much with the layering and she did not offer any apology, solutions or to try and fix it. During the haircut, she sprayed the spray bottle directly in my face, which added to the already uncomfortable experience. Overall, the entire experience left me feeling really disappointed and cheapened. The following day, I ended up getting my hair fixed at a different salon, and the new stylist was able to show me how unevenly my fringe pieces had been cut. I'm disappointed by the lack of communication and that my concerns about my fine hair weren't taken into account.
