They didn't answer at first (probably busy with clients), but immediately I got a text message & they were fast responding to schedule me! Booked the same day and I asked for a haircut. I had a previous hair stylist and bleach done elsewhere, so my hair is very damaged and dry-- I got a trim, layered cut, and blow dry by Ellie! Overall, it was such a great experience! Ellie M. is the best! for haircuts and learning so much about it your hair's needs and what can be good for you! Christina is nice. However, I'm not sure if she really listened when I described what I wanted. I have given her a few chances at $125 + tip per cut, but haven't walked away from any of the haircuts super happy. The last time, I showed her multiple pictures of what I wanted with my bangs, and it came close after I asked her to thin them out more after her initial cut. However, she also recommended thinning out the rest my hair to remove some of the weight to give it more movement and assured me that she won't remove too much. I wanted to retain that smooth U-shape in the back. It looked terrible after the first wash. She thinned my hair in a way that caused all the ends to flip up in random directions, NOT the look I was going for. None of the layers blended into each other. I wound up tying my hair up for the entirety of my three-week trip abroad because it looked so bad. Seven weeks later, and I'm still growing it out. My hair actually looks pretty damaged, even though it's not. Super disappointed. read more

Ariel is MAGICAL. I am so happy I found this place. Called like 10 salons, no one has an opening for a blowout late notice on Friday afternoon. Hair cut was pretty bad, and not worth $70+ tip. Sad because all the reviews were 5 stars and I live so close, so I was really searching for my holy-grail hair salon. Felt like anyone could have cut my hair the way it was done. I guess even at that price point, they just cut and blow dry- don't straighten or curl. Also didn't feel the hairdresser was very friendly toward me. No welcome greeting when I entered, she didn't introduce herself, shake my hand or even smile. And even though she was already booked for the day, she still managed to find time to work me in. Her mannerisms are just as friendly in person. I've always had trouble with other stylists. Hurrah for the new salon! Christina has been cutting my hair for a few years now and she always leaves me feeling happy. She has a great eye for style and for what suits each person. And now she has her own salon that reflects both her eye for aesthetics and her entrepreneurship. The location is super convenient: El Camino Real just south of the turnoff for downtown San Carlos. There's parking on the street and also on some adjoining lots just past the salon. And you can't miss the signature CC logo on a big bright sign above the building. The inside is stylish, but of course. It has that simple elegant feel of a modern boutique. Be sure to look up when you walk in the red door--the chandeliers will make you smile. I was there on opening week and even though some of the finishing touches were being applied, I felt really comfortable. And of course the most important part: I got a great haircut. I went to Ariel for balayage highlights + a cut yesterday and WOW it's one of my favorite haircuts I've ever had. Ariel is absolutely amazingg. I've never gotten balayage highlights before so I came in with only a vague idea of what I wanted, but she was so friendly and patient in helping me figure out what would look good. After that, she was super meticulous when it came to the cut and color, taking a lot of care to make sure everything was just right. I really felt like my hair was in good hands with Ariel. Needless to say, I love love lovee the end result (both the cut and the color)! It's amazing way beyond what I could have even imagined and I'll definitely be going back to Ariel in the future! The salon itself was really clean and I noticed that all the stylists are really careful to wipe down and disinfect everything in between clients. Not only did everyone (stylists and clients) wear masks the entire time, but they also spaced all the stations out by a good amount, had an air filter running and kept a window open for better air flow. I had always had a hard time finding a hairstylist in America that would understand what I want--until finding Christina. At first, I'm pretty closed off so I think I bring that out in others, but I gradually figured out how friendly and accommodating she is. The reviewers are telling the truth when they say that Christina checks in with you every step of the way! Sometimes I didn't have a strong opinion so she would say things like "Let's keep it this way for now, and once we've blow-dried I'll ask you again." That was extremely helpful! Especially as someone who has a hard time speaking up during haircuts when I see something questionable happening, it was really helpful that Christina proactively checked in often. She even suggested a variation to the haircut style I was seeking out, and turns out, I love it! She understands what looks good on people depending on their face shape and head shape! And as a bonus, my haircut is growing out REALLY nicely. I was worried that if I go short, I'll have to get it cut every 4 weeks and I would go broke. But nope, 6 weeks in and it's still looking pretty darn good! In the past, I'd gone to cheaper places and while they were kind, loving, and good at simpler styles, I've also been told by a nice young Vietnamese lady that I "shouldn't go too short [with my hair]" since I'm tall (I'm 5'6") and it'll make me look top heavy/boyish. I don't care about looking boyish, in fact I embrace a little bit of fluidity in my expression. And I certainly don't look top heavy with the short haircut that Christina gave me! So I've closed the chapter of my life where I seek out cheaper haircuts from well-meaning salons with very normative ideas of beauty and gender expectations. I plan to continue coming back to Christina for as long as I'm in the Bay Area! read more
