Life has changed drastically since I wrote my first review, but pandemic or not Trader Joe's consistently ranks five stars. Social distancing regulations change frequently as the situation unfolds, but Trader Joe's has kept pace. Line markers to cue six feet apart outside the shop, employees spraying down the carts with industrial disinfectant, new plastic guards at check-out for employee protection, and (at least on the days I've gone) well-stocked shelves. I'm trying to limit my trips to the grocery store to once a week (or less!) and I was able to check-off all the boxes on my list today. But the biggest kudos here go to their staff! I commend their bravery, their kindness, and for helping folks get what they need during this time. Thank you for your service! read more

Shopping on a Sunday can be very stressful, especially with the lines that we all have to stand in to social distance. I was pleasantly surprised that I barely waited 5 minutes outside before they orderly let me inside. If you're patience, it is so worth waiting to see just how efficient & organized Trader Joe's staff is just to help get you through. I found it much more calm to shop without the crowds that we all normally deal with when we go shopping on a sunday. Thanks to the staff at Trader Joe's. Love this place !! The staff are super friendly here and a tad smaller then its competitors like savemart, Safeway, while foods, etc... It's may be smaller but the prices are fair compare to every be else.. New fresh flowers every week! And it's for such a killer deal one bundle for $3.99-$9.99.. I'm there ever other week getting flowers for our house.. Good selections too for that price not just carnations and daisy, but you get a selection of roses and lilies too! (See the pics I posted) They have pre-prepped salads, sandwiches and wraps there too.. Their know for the wraps there but I can definitely say something about their salads.. Healthy, tasty and light.. Always a good place for a salad.. Mostly my go to place for cooking spices.. You get a bang for your buck here.. Everywhere else is expensive but not them at all.. They have a blend they make called 21 salute, goes well with everything you cook, from soups, sauces, meats, pasta, almost anything you can think of to make tasty .. *Made me climb the counter for my food* I normally adore Trader Joes and am a very frequent flyer, but today was quite a different experience. I bring my basket up to one of the OPEN registers where both this young girl and this old lady were working. They not once acknowledge me or even look up from their very important news paper crossword puzzle they are not very successfully doing. I wasn't even sure if the register is open at this point so I say hello and the young girl responds without looking up, "do you want a bag?" I say no thanks and move over to the spot where you pay. The older one starts scanning my items, still without once acknowledging me or even looking up and the entire time they are talking about their crossword. She finishes scanning. Doesn't say a word. I pay and wait for literally anything to happen or be said. The receipt prints and she's grabs it and hands it to me STILL without looking up or saying anything. I stand there for a second waiting like I normally would for her to, I don't know, perhaps slide my groceries down to the end where I can collect them, or just hand them to me since there was a solid 2 items. But nooo, she does not move a muscle, look up, or speak, so I literally have to lean entirely over the counter and card slider to grab my items. At this point I am obviously laughing, because here I am trying to buy a single cucumber and a bag of lettuce and I am climbing the Trader Joes counter just to retrieve my items. Without failure, no acknowledgement or words spoken, so I say my very polite salutations of "Okay then." and go on my way. 10/10 experience 2/10 recommend for beginner climbers 9/10 recommend for experienced climbers. Clean store. Service is good but not as friendly as other locations but this location is located near the campus so it gets busy! Good thing is employees make up in efficiency. Managers are super helpful. Can find most food items but depending on the season they may run low on specific items because large customer base. Location is easy to get in and out if you find parking on the street. read more

This Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery store in Davis because of the great prices and consistently fresh produce. This store is located near campus and gets very busy, which is bad because shelves get empty at night but is good because they restock constantly so most of the time you get fresh items. Ever go to a grocery store where all the employees seem like they hate their life? Yeah that's the complete opposite here, the TJ's staff is super friendly and make shopping here more enjoyable. Best things to pickup at TJ's are their unique snacks, dried fruit and nuts, pasta, cheeses, quest bars, and drinks. read more

When I saw that a Trader Joe's was opening up in this neighborhood, I couldn't wait to go grocery shop there! Their signature 19 cents bananas are unbeatable! I like how it is displayed right in front when customers walk in! I love their food that they sell here! From ready-to-eat lunch sizes to delicious, affordable, quality food portions, their variety makes me want to try all of what they have to offer! I also like the mini samplers they have in the back because it exposes me to different food products that I sometimes might have overlooked, didn't care for, or didn't want to purchase because it might have not tasted great! Their ingredients in the bread, canned fruits, frozen foods, and etc., for the most part, are made from whole ingredients and not much from the processed ingredients found in other supermarkets. I always strive to buy grocery foods that are made from "whole" ingredients and not much from the chemically-made ingredients - especially in products that are packaged, such as canned fruits, potato chips, breads, candies, and etc. To name a few of my favorites from the processed section: canned peaches with grapefruit juice used as the preservative, Mediterranean creamy hummus topped with garbanzo beans, and Trader Joe's mozzarella balls filled in a container with olive oil and chopped basil. Mmmmmmmm! I could go on and on about their different, delectable food products! Their service is great too! Oh, Trader Joe's, what would I do without you? I probably frequent TJ's at least once a week. Their produce selection is fantastic, and of course they've got lots of great staple items as well. Some of my favorite things include the eggplant hummus, yogurt, steel cut oats, sweet potatoes, the dark chocolate lover's bar, and the organic apples. The only thing is beware of coming on Sunday afternoons as lines can get a little bit crazy with everyone stocking up for the school/work week. read more

What else can I say about Trader Joe's? This location was friendly, wiped down carts, limited number of shoppers at a given time. My clerk didn't sanitize between shoppers but maybe others do. Trader Joe's--your local grocery store in Davis. It's got a lot of things you need with friendly staff always willing to help you out. Shout out to Peter Meno for being an awesome employee. Quick with transaction and fun to talk with. Four stars only because I'm a stingy Asian who thinks their things tend to be on the more expensive side. I understand the whole fresh/organic thing and they certainly provide that kind of atmosphere, but you can definitely get cheaper foods at safeway up in north Davis. Props to TJ for having unique items though! Their samples are really good too, so good that I buy whatever it is (sometimes) because my tongue is telling me to. Below is their gummy review because my favorite type of candy is gummies hahaha: Gummy tummies are my favorite. I saw that another yelper didn't like them and couldn't taste the difference. But when do you really taste much flavor differences when it comes to gummies? These gummies are bomb! Get them. The mango ones are really good too! It's a mix of mango with passion fruit, mango with yogurt, and mango with...I forget the last one but it's red so raspberry/strawberry? I wouldn't get their T&J letter shaped gummies though--they stick to your teeth and are rather sour, which stung my tongue quite a couple of times. Overall, love their products and courteous staffs. But downside is you tend to spend a fortune shopping here as opposed to elsewhere. But that's just my money standards. (I.e Pack of hot dogs for $5 at TJ vs 89 cents at another store, which would you pick?) Grocery shopping with a toddler is really not a fun experience. You have to be prepared to leave at any moment because they are volatile little human beings. That's not why we were annoyed - but I'm setting the context of the situation. We were waiting patiently in the floor marked line, 6 feet apart, waiting in our little family with our toddler, and a Trader Joe's employee first ushered a woman behind us in front of us because she had 15 items or less. Totally get that!! But THEN he ushered another young, attractive woman to cut completely in front of us in line, who had roughly the same amount of stuff as us, to a line that was about to open, completely cutting us off and helping her cut in line in front of us. Really not cool Trader Joe's. It's HARD grocery shopping with a toddler, during COVID, and you made us wait in line even longer... and for what? I didn't find Davis the Duck to get a sucker BUT I got some really sweet advice at checkout! 5 stars for customer service and nice conversations at checkout. I know it may seem kinda awk to have a random conversation with a random person nowadays, especially at the grocery checkout. But there is something about talking to the Trader Joe staff..am I right? Like they're always so friendly and interested in "where you're headed", "I love this item" and say nice comments like "happy new year" etc. today I had a lovely lady who told me her secrets in using the chopped up veggies sold in the refrigeration section. Love Trader Joe's! I always find the best deals and unique snack and food items. Love their fresh produce, flowers, pre-made meals, samples, frozen seafood, frozen naan (comes in plain and garlic!), basically everything here haha. Eggs can get pretty pricey, but most of the time Trader Joe's sells it for $1.29! They have lots of seasonal snacks i.e. around October, they have literally pumpkin everything - Pumpkin-O's, pumpkin macarons, big, small pumpkins, pumpkin crackers. I discovered their dill pickle kettle chips, which is tangy with a bit of spicy kick. It's my new favorite chip flavor! TIP: If you want to try something, just ask a worker. I was a bit shy at first, but I found out that it's one of their policies to allow customers to try something before buying. Sometimes when I go there, the worker goes around the store asking if customers want a sample, and that's because someone probably asked for a sample and they're trying to use up the rest of that product. read more

It is seriously impressive how friendly the employees are here. It's also equally impressive how crowded the parking lot can be. (There's a meme online somewhere about the consistently tiny parking lots at Trader Joe's locations!) I've never crunched all the numbers, but I'd guess the average price for an item at TJ's is $3-$4. It's pretty affordable, and as this location is close to campus, you can usually find many students here. In the summer and on winter break, the lines are significantly shorter! Don't forget to grab a sample of their featured food for the day and a mini cup of coffee at the back of the store. It's so fun to sip and shop! I love the variety of items you can find here. Not only will you find the traditional produce, dairy, meat, dry goods, and alcohol sections of a grocery store, but you're sure to find some special treat that only TJ's makes. Be it cookies, candy, snacks, or novelty breakfast items, there's always something new to try. This Trader Joe's is always slammed! It's where a lot of the college kids in town shop so no matter the time of day it's always busy here. Plus parking is a nightmare here! Yes we all love our Trader Joe's! Good stuff at great prices. Maybe even too much good stuff :-). Because my Trader Joe's is located in Davis, California, home of the UC Davis Aggies, it is usually filled with students galore as well as community people. But today when I went in to pick up a few items the place was dead. Of course it was... it is summer now and most of the students are gone. It is like I had the whole place to myself :-). I was able to take my time and check out all the aisles and even find a few new items of which I was not aware. Everything is always so clean here and all the employees are always helpful. Whether it's busy or not. But I will have to say today was one of my most fun days because at check out I was entertained immensely by two of the funniest employees LOL... They are front and center in my photo I just posted. And you other two interlopers...loved it!!! Always a good time at the Davis Trader Joes. Thanks guys! read more

This is definitely my to-go place for grocery shopping in Davis! Especially when I am meal prepping and that is like every week. A lot or all of their stuff is organic which means healthy food! There are some things that are pricey but most of their stuff is pretty cheap especially since they are organic. Parking here in this plaza can be a hassle because it gets pretty busy with college students trying to grab a bite at Old Tea House, shopping at Forever 21, or even grocery shopping at TJs. I never really had trouble finding parking but maybe it's because I always come at the right time. Staff here are really friendly and can help you with anything you are looking for. In the back of the store they usually have a certain food they sample out which I think is pretty neat :) I usually come here for their fruits and veggies and never for their meats since their meat selection can be on the expensive side a lot. I get bananas here when I don't want to make the drive to Costco because they are really cheap! Kale, spring mix, milk, cottage cheese, apples, tomatoes...are a few of the things I normally get when I come to Trader Joes. Everything here is fresh, organic, and delicious! I'm glad that we have a Trader Joes in Davis though I wish it wasn't across town from where I live :P read more

Like any other Trader Joe's if you've been to one, you've been to them all for the most part. Fruit/Veg are decent, usually they're at the point where you should only buy it if you plan to eat it within a day or two because it's already ripe (minus the avocados and bananas most likely). Really expensive, but good quality, meat so I don't recommend purchasing from here unless you're picky about where your meat comes from. I love their frozen isle. I usually always get their chicken tikka masala but they stopped carrying it or something. They have another version in the refrigerator area and it's just not as good. We all have those moments where we're too lazy to cook and Trader Joe's makes me feel like I'm not a bad, lazy, unhealthy person for popping something in the microwave for lunch/dinner. Probably my favorite place to go grocery shopping in Davis. Best place to get healthy food for great prices. I really wish I lived closer :( I normally go for their selections of fruits and veggies, especially the bananas which are only $.19 each! Aside from that, I normally buy kale, lettuce and other salads. Their prices are consistently lower than Safeway for the same amount. I think a carton of OJ is $2. I'm still more than a little bitter that this place finally opened after I'd already graduated and left, but I won't let that affect my review. Seriously though, you would have made my life so much easier. Biking/bus-ing to Safeway back in the day was a somewhat tedious option. ;_; Anyway, this is located about 3 minutes away from my Davis hovel with one of my former roommates. It's both good and bad. Good because we have such easy and convenient access to amazing food. Bad because we love food so much and it gets expensive. I like how Trader Joe's customizes each branch to make it unique to the location it's in. :] The staff is super friendly and helpful. Our shopping list before we came here looked something like this: bread cream cheese spinach figs artichoke hearts MEAT yogurt MOAR MEAT! carrots :) So that's what we got. The herb focaccia bread is awesome, and our meats were smoked salmon & prosciutto. We also got two containers of their freaking amazing yogurt (the one with the happy cow on it? :D ). Other favorites include the mochi ice cream and the pumpkin butter. True, it's a bit pricey, but I think that has more to do with the fact that we love food too much. Also, since you apparently only eat 100,000 meals in your lifetime (assuming that you live to be 100), you gotta make each one count! :O read more

I love Trader Joe's! I love that they are always getting in new items -- especially new items to match the season. Serving sizes are best to feed 1-2 people so I usually will shop elsewhere if making food for more than that. Produce is higher quality and cheaper than other grocery stores. When students are back after the holidays, the best time to go is early morning or late at night. Avoid 5pm if you want to miss long lines and crowds!! read more

Oh Trader Joe's, one of the places that I can always count on to get fresh products and free samples to munch on while I go about my business. The workers are always super friendly and they always try to help me as much as they can. Even when they cannot find a product (or isn't in stock), there's always something similar or can be replaced with another thing. For the return policy, when I had a problem with a product (didn't noticed a package was opened), I was refunded quickly and hassle free. If I'm ever needing of a frozen meal, I will always count on Trader Joe's to have something that I'd like to eat. Not once have I even been dissatisfied of anything from this store. Three stars for Trader Joe's? Unfortunately, yes. The Davis location of Trader Joe's has been a great addition to the city and the greater Sacramento region. They are located near Highway 113 and Russell making them a relatively easy stop when returning to Sacramento from points west. As you would expect, this location is very popular with UC Davis students. There are two major problems here that knock off points. Parking and access to the store are very difficult, even for Trader Joe's standards! Also, it seems like this location runs out of product more often than other stores. Even so, this is still TJ and is one of the best places to shop in the area. They stock the same excellent products that make the chain famous and beloved. The Davis location is just not worth an extra trip if you have a closer location. read more

This Trader Joe's ruined my life. When there wasn't a grocery store 5 minutes away from me, my life was a lot simpler. I was never tempted to go to the store and buy something for dinner knowing I already had something waiting for me at home. No, I would never do that. But, my how things have changed. Every day I struggle with the temptation to avoid this store. Trader Joe's, you have truly changed my life, and it's not something you should be proud of. There's nothing particularly different from this store to any other Trader Joe's stores. They have the unique wall murals specifically designed after Davis, but the food is pretty much the same. They have your fresh flowers, your variety of organic foods, the gluten free and low fat options, and the many choices of wines. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Parking can be a pain, so be prepared to stalk for a spot. Otherwise a great addition to the Umall area. read more

One of the better Trader Joe's I've been to. The staff is friendly and customer oriented and the store (most of the times) has everything you come to Trader Joe's for. This location is in the strip mall named University Mall so you can guess that it will be busy with the students, as the dorms and campus proper is just across the street. On top of it all there is a Forever 21, Starbucks and World Market sharing the same parking lot. This translates to a lot of chaos finding parking so your best bet is to park in the back. Be careful though because the spots are very narrow. As for the selection they have everything Trader Joe's carries and restock quickly. However, I always find that I can't do the whole grocery shopping at TJ's and a trip to the produce store would usually follow. Their produce is OK but it is packaged for most of the part, and not super fresh. As far as the prices, some things are more expensive than at a similar store but I don't know anyone who goes to TJ's to get laundry detergent. This location has an even better selection of wines then the others in the area and they let you pick single bottles of beer out of the 6-packs. That is pretty cool. Now for the ranking... I would give TJ's 5 stars easily but when we stopped by yesterday the shelves were ransacked. I know the school is just about to resume but it is not an excuse to run out of so many items. As this was usually not the case and I come to this TJ's on a regular basis, I will take it as an exception to the rule. I absolutely love Trader Joe's. Been shopping there for decades. They never disappoint. They are in 43 states but not in the state I'm moving to, South Dakota. I would love to encourage the organization to open two locations in South Dakota. One in Sioux Falls and one in Rapid City. I don't want to have to drive to Fort Collins to go to a Trader Joe's. Recently bought Thai wheat noodles and chicken tikka masala. OMG. The best ever. And they have my crumpets. What more could anyone want? read more

I've always had a great experience at Trader Joe's, but a few days ago was by far the coolest grocery trip I've made. I was diagnosed with celiac disease last week, and I had to re-stock my pantry and fridge with gluten free options. I was having a hard time determining what was safe to eat; not all of the items that should be gluten free have the "gluten free" label stamped on them. Jason (I think that was his name) was SO helpful and printed out a whole list of all the items Trader Joe's sells that are gluten free. He directed me toward some awesome gluten free desserts to satisfy my sweet tooth! We had a great conversation and I'm so appreciative of his help. It's been a tough week but that shopping trip made my life so much easier. For anyone else who has dietary restrictions, TJ's has a great variety of alternatives.
