They are cheerful helpful and always also looking to make sure your eggs aren't cracked or if something is not right they will grab a new one before you're even finished paying. The only downside is that you have to go super early in the morning if you want to get one because they sell out really fast. The people who work at the bakery are amazing and always so helpful, especially when I am not sure what to order. Even though I do not go very often, every time I do, I am greeted with so much hospitality, and it really makes the experience feel welcoming. Overall, it is such a great spot. One of my favorite grocery stores in Davis! I always enjoy visiting the drink bar to get a drink and acai bowl before starting my shopping. I believe that Nugget has one of the best acai bowls that I've tried, I especially like the cacao nibs and honey drizzle. The drink bar has a great selection of seasonal items and while I usually try the smoothies, I gave one of the coffees a try and really enjoyed it! Good sandwiches. Better than Zias or Ikes or Mr. Pickles, which I hate to say because Nugget is a chain. The bread is the perfect amount of flavor and holds up while soaking up flavor. Solid pesto, but the chicken was a little springy, similar to Le Boulangers pesto chicken. The sandwich did feel very heavy, though, so I personally would have preferred tomato slices in the sandwich instead of a tomato pesto. In love. Has been a few months, but I visited again recently and the experiment was fantastic. I walk in and when I tell you it smelled fresh. All of the vegetables and produces in the air, did not smell like safeway or target. I couldn't even get the chance to get lost because a gem of a man pointed it all out. He looked like a short version of that Casey Afflack, from the triassic park movies, with those blue eyes and muscles. Now the price is a bit pricey. OK. But some of y'all need to stop complaining, you're paying for quality food and good service! Yes I called to order a cake for one of my kids. I spoke to a nice lady who called me back and I asked if I can pay extra for organic strawberries for the bday cake. She was so sweet and said she would charge me the same as the regular strawberries. Needless to say my older kids love loved celebrating with this cake and friends. This review reflects concerns we have raised directly to the management at the East Covell Nugget, as well as to corporate. It involves issues relating to the behavior of cashiers, particularly in regards to treatment of elderly customers. I have no idea if this is specific to the treatment of my mother, or if other customers have experienced these exact same issues. I wouldn't be surprised if other older customers have dealt with the same thing. Specifically, I will describe repeated poor treatment of my 78-year-old mother, a regular customer at the store who spends thousands of dollars per year at this location. I have raised these issues, vocally, to the managers at the store, but the local mangers' response has been unacceptable, and the problems continue to occur. I'll note in advance that while you might find the issues to sound trivial or even minor, they reek of ageism, and they also point to poor training for the cashiers and a lack of true empathy by the managers. We go to Nugget to have a simple satisfying trip to get delicious food, and we do not appreciate ending visits with the negativity of being accused of impropriety by cashiers. Problem 1: My mother has been twice accused of having more than 15 items in the express checkout lane. Again, this might sound trivial, but on both occasions, the cashiers asked my mother if she had under 15 items, *before* they began to checkout the individual items. Moreover, both times, she had fewer than 15. One could understand if the cashier waited until the final tally was complete, and then, if they noticed that she had more than15 items (which she did NOT), perhaps then it would be appropriate for a gentle reminder that the lane should only be used for 15 items or fewer. Again, it might sound like a trivial complaint, but I am forced to wonder if my elderly mother came across as an easy 'target'. 'Oh, she's old, and doesn't know the rules'. Would the cashiers have asked this question to a younger customer? I doubt it. Problem 2 (from 7/19/25): As you know, at your stores, if you purchase an Acai Bowl, or indeed any item at the coffee bar, this must be paid for before the staff even begins to make the item. My mother collected the bowl was later checking out with other items from the store. She was then challenged by the cashier to ask if she had paid for the bowl. Again, maybe this sounds trivial. But it just casts a negative light on the entire visit. Of course she paid for it. She couldn't have had it if she hadn't paid for it before it was even made. The question itself is an accusation, and one that should never have even been asked because of the way the store actually functions. I must wonder, again, would a younger customer have been accused in this fashion? I must also ask, if this cashier is a new hire, why was he not trained properly to understand that items from the coffee bar are always paid for at the coffee bar? Surely that should be mentioned during training because Nugget does a huge amount of business at the coffee bar. People are checking out all the time, having first purchased items at the coffee bar. I raised this issue to the manager, who is familiar with me, because I have raised the complaints to him on all three instances mentioned above. All he could offer this time was a weak apology. I suggest that a better response would be for him, or for corporate, to be made aware that this kind of ageism and treatment of customers is definitively wrong. It should not be tolerated at the local store level, or at the corporate level. We don't go to the grocery store to constantly be questioned if we're following the rules. That's not what a visit to Nugget is supposed to be about. Finally, when we complained last time, the two managers at the Davis store took my mother's phone number, and there was an implication that one of the managers would call my mother personally to apologize. That never happened. We don't really care that this effort wasn't made. However, we do see it as emblematic of a problem where the managers act like they're listening, and that they're sorry, but in the end, they really don't seem to care. We sincerely hope that the proper personnel at the corporate level take heed of our complaints and perhaps take some kind of corrective action. read more

I don't know quite what to make of this market. It's like a fancier Whole Foods or Bristol Farms to me. The prices are high and while I'm willing to pay the premium for good quality foods...I just wasn't happy with what we got. We were on a road trip back and after a full day of bad eating, I just wanted something fresh and clean. Nugget Markets had great reviews so I thought it'd be fun to stop in as we were passing through Davis. I was expecting a local market but was a little disappointed to pull up to what looked like a Whole Foods type place. Well...at least they had a hot bar and prepared foods, right? Except it was 8PM and even thought they closed at 9PM, the prepare food was already being put away. I did manage to snag the last two in the display, a wheat berry salad with cranberries and mandarin as well as a kale salad. Those two were good. The pesto pasta, on the other hand, was practically dripping in oil and butter. We could barely manage a few bites before I gave up. A miss is fine but that pasta was twice as much as the salads. I would've just stuck to more salad if I knew. I would not go out of my way personally, but I suppose it's always good to have healthy options around. read more

Would I Come Back Test? We do 99% of our shopping at Nugget, but now I will be doing a large percentage of my sandwich and soup shopping here as well. Comparison: We have two Nugget Markets in Davis. Both have been remodeled, but this one is larger and offers a wider variety of food. The deciding factor -- the bread is made here. Tips for 1st Timers: 1) It can get crowded for lunch so plan accordingly. 2) Plenty of parking at all times of the day 3) There are hot food stations with plenty of vegetarian options plus a made-to-order sandwich spot and a smoothie bar. 4) There is plenty of outside seating available, but if it's cold, grab some of the table for two round tables near the registers. 5) Bread choices made in-house daily: Rosemary Round, Sourdough Roll, Dutch Crunch, Puguese Roll, Seeded Epi, Epi, and Ciabatta Roll. Laverne, ($7.99, Grade A) There are 4 specialty vegetarian sandwich options. The Laverne caught my eye because it has two cheeses and the thought of mozzarella and cheddar melted together on a toasted ciabatta roll was too tempting to pass up for my first sandwich experience at Nugget. I comes with oven-roasted tomato, a beautiful layer of lettuce leaf, and the bread is drizzled with a balsamic glaze. The bread alone and balsamic glaze is on par with Il Fornaio's complimentary table starters. Definitely get this toasted and enjoy softened layers of mozzarella and cheddar. It's a very well balanced bite and for the $7.99 price tag, it is a great deal. Creamy Tomato Soup (Pint, $4.50, Grade A) Soups are good food and Nugget is no exception. A delicious medley of tomatoes, light cream, spices and garlic, all simmered in a rich broth. One of the better tomato soups I've had - if you like the tomato soup at Cafeteria 15L in Sacramento, you'll be equally warmed by Nugget and for much cheaper. Not overly tangy and the cream gives it a thicker consistency you typically find in a tomato bisque. I used any remaining bread to clean the bowl and at the end of my meal, there was no evidence of anything I ordered. Bottom Line: Yes they sell groceries, but don't overlook the made-to-order food. In fact, they have an entire bakery so after you have your main meal, house made desserts are only a few steps away. Nugget Markets consistently earn a Top 10 Place to Work designation and their staff pride really shows. They are friendly and the place is clean. Nugget Market is one of the gems of Davis. read more
