Love Joes. Their private label wines sell for $9, but originate in vinyards charging $20+. Any down side comes from the focus on pre-packaged food, but they do it very well. Customer service? I love the people there, they really feel like a "neighborhood store." Why 4 stars? Their parking lot is aweful. My fiance sometimes won't even go with me to TJ's because maneuvering the parking lot is a nightmare. If I could park, it would be 5 stars easy. read more

Unique is the best word I can come up with for Trader Joe's. They have a lot of unusual things I've never seen before. If you are looking for traditional store brand items, keep looking for another store. They have many things that are their own brand labels. I went there for the first time last week so I can only comment on what I saw. I did by the pecan pralines and they are great. I love Trader Joe's as a store itself but I haven't been able to bring myself to shop at this particular location again. The few times I have shopped here I seem to get ignored even upon checkout. If they can fix the lack of customer service I would easily come back. Typically, in the Trader Joe's I've been in (particularly all over California), there are genuinely friendly employees ready to help and I get the exact opposite at this store. My "go to" store. TJ's is small but has all the right stuff for me. I generally go there once a week...whether I need to or not . I stock up on fresh veggies and fruit. I also buy wine as their collection is first rate. The help is simply outstanding and is dedicated to always making everyone's experience first rate. Meats are also stellar. Seriously some of the best customer service I experienced in ABQ. From the dudes running around stocking various goodies to the chicks cashing out customers; happy and helpful employees. At one point they stopped what they were doing and broke into song and started dancing. It was like the cast of Stomp was working at TJ's! Well... that may have just been in my head but you can imagine how awesome that would have been, right?! It's a Trader Joe's... they have all the goodies and foodage you would expect to find here, the prices are comparable and the joint is clean. Really once you've been inside one Trader Joe's haven't you been inside them all? I will say that the parking sitch here was no bueno. It was always a matter of everyone except the driver hopping out while the driver circled the parking lot for 30 minutes trying to find parking. Either we would finish our shopping before he found a spot or he'd drive across the street and run across traffic to get to us and then we'd all do that to get back to the car... this parking tomfoolery is the reason for the 4 stars and not the blessed 5 red stars of awesome. Typical Trader Joes set-up. The thing that sets this one apart from other Trader Joes, like the one in Oceanside, is the friendly staff. I walked in just looking for salsa and ran in to a large man named Ricky. He had a big personality and was really funny and helpful. He definitely brightened my day. As I checked out, the check out staff was very friendly and was honestly interested in their customers! You don't see that every day. I don't shop here all the time, since it's so far from my house, but I think the selection of a) Orchids, b) cheese, and c) wine, make it a stand out. I spend so much time shopping here, really just because it is the closest decent super market. Trader Joes is really good for specific specialty items. The produce blows, half the time it is rotting in the package and it is overpriced. The cheeses, wine, snacks, nuts, some frozen items, dairy, coffee, and some of the meats are the things to buy. The frozen fish is usually not great and some of the frozen seafood is mostly ice. Their frozen desserts are also usually good. The employees are usually very nice and I feel they have improved over the last year or so. I remember seeing who I thought was a homeless guy moving the yogurts around. Then a few moments later I realized it was one of the employees. In summary, a great place to buy a few special items but don't ever try to do all of your shopping here. I will admit, I am slightly obsessed with Trader Joe's and this location is full of great food, great prices, and super amazing staff! Albuquerque doesn't quite know how lucky it is to have a TJ's. When I lived in Colorado, I had no idea what I was missing (but always knew something was missing...), now I am hooked! I was a bit shocked when I got home and found that some of the meat I had bought was to expire the next day. Most Trader Joe's I have been to in other states do not have this happen. When I opened the beef I bought it had a strange sulfide odor. I should have not bought the meat here with the bulging packages, but I thought it was due to the high elevation we are at in Albuquerque. Don't buy meat here. Have been loyal TJs customer in CA, Phoenix and NYC. This store does not meet TJ standards. If you have high expectations from other TJs stores don't bring them with you here. Love the products but service here is the poorest we've ever experienced from TJ's. we used to drive 30 minutes to see our favorite mate Judy in Phoenix and we would stand in lines that wrapped around the store in Manhattan and Brooklyn...and we're always raving fans. I went here when I was temped at corporate housing next door. The blond cashier insisted that she check my brother's ID as well as mine so I could purchase wine. I only had my ID because we walked over from corporate housing and she could see that I am way over 21. However she would not let me purchase it. The dark haired manager said the same thing, rudely. When I asked for the section of the law where that is required or an explanation they did not give me an answer and just kept saying it was the law. I don't believe it. What I love about trader joes is the frozen section. Cheap healthy eats like convenient stir fries, veggies, quick meals, etc. Also a good variety of organic food that's at least reasonably priced! Seconding Howie though on the produce - it goes bad SO FAST. Not even worth it. Meats and such I tend to freeze immediately. The last experience I had here was terrible. Food went bad a week before the "best by" date. Lots of money down the drain, we couldn't even eat half of what we bought days before. The premade food is gross and bland. Only perk was my daughter could push her own shopping cart around and got stickers at the checkout. read more

this store needs to update their card readers at the registers. the chance of having your card declined is high and this can be embarrassing and annoying. the cashier will ask you to keep inserting and/or sliding your card which will eventually make it not be accepted for your purchases at all. believe it, it's happened to me several times. if your card is wrongly declined, ask that another register be used before inserting or sliding your card again! read more
