Absolutely love going to Trader Joe's. This location has a very kind and helpful staff that are always busy work but will drop what they are doing to assist you with a bug smile on their face. They have a great selection of goods that I can't find anywhere else and only go to Trader Joe's to get. By the way, please bring back the frozen Mexican blackbean and cheese enchiladas. They've been a favorite of mine for a long time. The only downside is that they are always busy and crowded, which is great for business but a bit frustrating when you're trying to get in and out. I always have to visit a Trader Joe's when I'm out of town since we don't have one back home. This location was located in a parking garage (I think that's a way to describe it lol), and there was free parking so that was a plus! The store was clean and well stocked with my staple items that I always get. There was quite a line forming when we first entered the store, but none when I went to check out. My cashier was very friendly and bagged our items very well which is important to me traveling with a pre-teen and infant. read more

I was dropping my roommate off for their morning shift (at 7:00am) and the store opened at 8:00am. I have been a proud consumer of Trader Joe's for years and the level of disrespect that I experienced today has led me to no longer shop at Trader Joe's. At the very least I won't be returning to this location... The manager on duty "Yolanda" felt the need to turn me away from the door when I asked if I could quickly use the bathroom (since I was dropping my roommate off for work). No hesitation or level of understanding whatsoever. The response I received was "No, sorry go to Harris Teeter." So when I'm making my next grocery purchase(s) I'll be sure to follow that advice. Don't bother with this store unless you like being disrespected at the start of your day. It starts with management and this manager's actions were not acceptable for the fact ( I wasn't attempting to purchase anything and merely wanted to use the rest room). I've shopped at this Trader Joe's for years when I was a resident in Alexandria and now when I return monthly for work and stock up on supplies for while I'm here. I love that the Joe's is consistent and reliable. You can always depend on their products to be good and taste the same time and time again. They stand behind their items and have amazing customer service. The reason I'm writing this post now is because I was in there on Monday, January 22 at 8:30pm and this place was having a party. African beats up loud, people laughing, everyone working but having a good time. I seriously wanted to jump in and help stock shelves! The store was still clean and organized and nothing was actually in the way of me getting to a product. I had a great conversation with the cashier Robert S., who asked me if I was going to have an awesome week. When I told him I hoped so, he gave me a bundle of flowers. I mean, for real? Haven't been to Trader Joe's in forever! What's nice about this location is that you can park and get the parking validated so you don't have to worry about street parking. We didn't really go in to the store with a list of things to get. We just went to see all the different types of foods that we don't see at other stores. We ended up leaving with some new things to try! There breads were pretty high priced but most things were reasonable. However the flowers didn't look great so we opted out of buying those. I am a frequent shopper at Trader Joe's in Alexandria, and they always have the freshest flowers and everything is always restocked. During checkout, all of the clerks are very pleasant and willing to have conversations. I really like this store and find the staff friendly and helpful. I am not shy about returning an item if I need to and I still get treated kindly. Sadly they (all TJ's) no longer carry the delicious pretzel challah. It was my fav. I purchase the goat cheese here, no coup or sale just a fair price. If I'm going out for Asia food I buy the moochies here to have for dessert afterwards, and all the flavors are good(sweet). Spices are a good deal too as is the rice & chocolate pudding. I've been a huge TJ's fan for years but my go to store is this one! the staff is without a doubt always helpful and super friendly and sweet! One day my genius self locked my car and left my keys inside and i decided to go back and ask the cashier if he knew what to do and they quickly went in the back and grabbed a guy named Rob i believe (this happened a few months ago) and he was literally the sweetest funniest guy! Apparently it happens a lot in the garage and he was fully prepared and didn't give up and at last he unlocked my car and i was able to grab my keys! i couldn't have thanked him enough! he was also nice enough to give me a wine bottle to de-stress myself after all that commotion! Their wine and beer selection is great and i always stock up on their La Finca Malbec bottles about $5 a bottle!) and garlic hummus! read more

Update, if I could give more stars, I would. I go here regularly and the staff here is sooooo nice but Chris went above and beyond on Sunday. I went there to get the vegan egg nog but it is already gone for the season-two weeks before Christmas! What's up with that Trader Joe's?!?! I was so sad but Chris made me feel better because he went around and found me at least four other vegan treats to soothe my sad soul, including snickerdoodle cookies and another vegan drink that's good but not as good as the vegan eggnog. He was soooo personable and such a sweet heart. He stopped what he was doing and let me sample the cookies. He wasn't handing out samples, he opened a box for me! I heard they do this at Trader Joe's but I have never been on the receiving end of this goodness. It made for such a fun experience and I ended up buying some other really good vegan treats but I'm going to need Trader Joe's to fix the vegan egg nog situation. Egg nog should be available until the 3rd of January (totally random date). I always enjoy my Trader Joe's experience but you do have to be aware that if you find something you like that seasonal, buy 15 because it will likely be gone the next time you come, even if the season is now where over. Original review-In general, I really love Trader Joe's and this one is great. I usually stop here after church because the parking is super convenient and the staff is exceptional. I love the selection here and the flyers recommend really great finds. My new finds this week were the cornbread crisps-think cornbread crackers, apple cider jam-Im here for the everything that represents the taste of fall, and pumpkin breakfast bars-you need these in your life, they are my favorite of all the breakfast bars. I've never had a bad experience at a Trader Joe's but sometimes the ones in dc don't have my soy chorizo sausage, which you should try whether you eat meat or not, but the one in Alexandria always has it. PS try the squash soup and add some of the soy chorizo sausage- perfect for the fall. What a helpful staff they have! When I first walked in, two people came up to me and asked me what I was looking for so kudos to the customer service here. I haven't been to this location in a long time. I came here early in the morning around 8am right after my chiro appt. to get these Speculoos candy bars my sister wanted so that I can hand off to someone to deliver to her in Hawaii. Being a chocolate whore...or fiend, I sought my way to get these cookie dough stuffed bars she wanted. Oh yea, I confess: I wanted to try them too (They are ok). STICK TO THE PLAN, DON'T DEVIATE Of course along the way, like little red riding good I get into trouble and start looking at the freezer section to see what's new and I came upon these bacon wrapped scallops. Before I know it, my mind was racing and I could literally imagine the smell and the taste of these. Oh, and it was wrapped with nitrate free bacon-BONUS! Sounds healthier to me, so I snapped these up and these chicken lollipops that reminded me of Cava Mezze started calling my name, so I grabbed them and finally these Spicy Shrimp Bao buns started waving to me and it all went downhill from there. Isn't it funny how you come for one thing and then all of sudden, everything jumps out at you and your constantly tempted, teased and tortured until you give in.. Plus, the prices sure don't make it easier. NONTRADITIONAL BREAKFAST Long story short, I went home, cooked the scallops wrapped in bacon in my Nuwave oven. Then I proceed to zap the shrimp bao buns in the microwave while the scallops were cooking. Overall, these were the most amazing bacon wrapped store bought scallops ever..That crispy bacon on the outside was just delicious. First time i ever went to a Trader Joe's was in Clarendon introduced to me by someone. Ever since i don't shop anywhere else. I love their variety and uniqueness, most of their products come from farms and not mainstream name brand products. The staff is always working hard and super friendly, they work 10 times harder than any other grocery store and always with a smile on their face. Their prices are great compared to most stores and considering that they have amazing products. I feel like they have more healthy choices available and all their food is geared towards that and thus attracts such customers. They have a enclosed parking garage to park your car which is free upto 90 minutes so you don't have to go through the hassle of finding street parking. They usually have samples laid out for you to try of new items before you buy. Their produce and cheeses are always fresh and clean. The only downside is the long lines at the checkout but they try to be quick and efficient without compromising customer service. I wish they were open past 9pm on weekdays, if you have a late work schedule, then you either have to rush to get there or wait for the weekend. Other than that there is nothing but good things to say about Trader Joe's, they sure have made a loyal customer out of me. I will certainly be back for more goodies! read more

Whenever I hanker for something strange and unique, I make my way to Trader Joe's for safari of the gourmet variety. This isn't your average shopping trip, my friend, for I am on the hunt for such big game as honey goat cheese, artisan breads, and cool juices that only seem to be found on the shelves of Trader Joe's. Of course, just as Big Game Hunters ventured to the Dark Continent in quest of the Big Five, I step into Trader Joe's with a list of items in mind, but more than often I see a strange and wondrous trophy that I simply must have: Frozen Egg Rolls?,,, why yes I think I will.. Sunflower Seed Butter?,,, Yummy doesn't begin to describe how tasty you are. Pumpkin Pita Chips?...And Grandma said pumpkin was just for pie and beer. Trader Joe's Reusable Bag?...Look, Ma, now I am shopping with style. Yes, it is always the perfect hunt at Trader Joe's, and the only thing that takes off a star from the experience is the numerous number of yuppies and hipsters who flock to this gourmet grocery store like thirsty wildebeest to a Serengeti watering-hole. Clutching their pumpkin-spiced ale and hoarding a cart load of reasonably priced wine, these bourgeois shoppers are an obstacle that must be endured. They stampede toward every checkout counter, and they always, but always gum up the works with a thousand questions about wines or some other nibble bit in their overflowing cart,,,ugh Well, no matter, like ever skilled Big Game Hunter who must face hungry hungry hippos or venomous snakes, I have braved such dangers as the Trader Joe's elite to come out on the other side, to sit by the fire and admire my trophies of honey goat cheese and frozen lamb vindaloos. One of the best Trader Joe's I've been to, even though it's slightly smaller than what I'm used to. However, the real 5-star rating is for Anca, the TJ staff member in charge of flowers. I had decided to do my own flower centerpiece arrangement for the wedding as I could not find any logical reason for spending several hundreds or thousands on small quantities of flowers that would only be on tables for 5 hours. A good friend and loyal shopper suggested TJ, so I stopped in the store a month before my wedding to see what they could offer. Anca was very knowledgeable and honest about the type of flowers I could expect the week of my wedding, what flowers would hold up best for heat and some travel, which flowers were most sensitive, best time to pick them up, various centerpiece suggestions, and pricing. She had them ready to go in portable buckets filled with some water the day I arrived and even helped bring them and pack them in the car. Since I picked them up the day before, she told me I could come back the morning of if I needed replacements due to damage or wilting. Luckily, the flowers held up (as she suggested) so there was no need for that. But I felt reassured just having this option. I ended up with their $5.99 bunches of hydrangeas and $2 tulips as I did half the tables with one type of centerpiece and the others a different way. They were beautiful and I spent less than $150 on approximately 13 centerpieces and extra bunches of flowers I used for extra decor. If I find any pictures of the wedding centerpieces, I'll be sure to add them. For now, I just have the pictures I used for practice. VERY friendly staff! Everyone was helpful and found everything I needed. I like how this Trader Joes is a little bigger in the back section or beer/ wine/ fruits& veggies, gets crowded and this is a space area!:) Everything was clean, they were very busy so it's nice to know they keep up well. The nicest people work at this location. One week I asked if I could grab a couple stickers for my son who wasnt with me and the lady gave me a bag with lollies and fruit treats. Last week, I was getting checked out by a nice young lady named Amber, who checked my ID and noticed my birthday just passed. She got the store manager to grab me a bouquet of flowers. As far as Trader Joe's (TJ) goes, this is by far the best location in the DC metro area! This TJ is HUGE and has a large bakery section. Very crowded on a Sunday, but what grocery store isn't. We have done price comparisons from all the local grocery stores and, most notably, TJ's has the cheapest half-and-half, butter, string cheese, frozen tilapia, frozen fruit! Good selection, great location, helpful staff. Now that they got smart and made a corral for the registers it's even more efficient. Prices are competitive and frequently beat competitors for similar quality. I really like their wine selection and daily tastings with pairings. They offer an insanely good cheese selection as well which we frequently raid. Their meats are adequate and produce offering hits all the points we need it to. We still miss our southern grocery chain but are pleased to finally have a Trader Joe's close enough to frequent. While the holiday season is in full effect, check out their offering of mulled wine! Also, their Indian frozen meals are good quality and an easy solution to a hungry stomach. Don't forget the Panda Puffs!! read more

Unfortunately, the customer interaction here for myself and my family was very uncomfortable and upsetting to say the least. My family are African American Muslims and watching other customers from other ethnic backgrounds welcomed in with a smiling face and myself get a uncomfortable looks and whispers. I literally said good morning three times to the greeter at the door and she refused to respond with even a look. Multiple times my eleven year old asked, "mommy are you okay?" The employees kept cutting us off and not even a look or apology. I tried asking an employee for assistance and they continued to put items in the freezer box as if I hadn't said a word. But when my daughter said to me, "mommy can we leave the people that work here are making me uncomfortable and I don't like how they're looking at us." Most naturally we left without purchasing a thing. I am a middle working class woman who enjoys healthier food options for myself and my family alike. I love Trader Joe's, but this location kind of drives me crazy. The parking garage is congested and there is a line to get out. The inside is no calmer. The layout doesn't make sense when you come from the garage. The produce section is in the back. I had to do a few trips around the place to find what I needed. Also, the lines at the checkout were very busy. They had an employee directing traffic thankfully. They do validate parking which is a plus. This Trader Joe's has the best selection of beer and liquor of any Trader Joe's I have been to. Overall, the floorplan is a bit odd with the cold foods being kinda all over the place, but after a few visits I was getting the hang of it. The cashiers are always very helpful and will chat with you as they ring you out. I admire that human interaction even if it is for groceries. If you drive there, I would avoid the weekends... specifically Saturday. the underground parking garage gets packed and people forget how to drive. I love TJoe's. I do not love *this* TJoe's. I feel sorry for Old Towners; this is probably the crummiest TJoe's in NoVa (although crummiest in the DMV has to go to Silver Spring). This TJoe's is pretty small and, consequently, has much less stock as others in the area. Finding they've run out of your favorite items is not unusual. Its size also makes it feel claustrophobic. Crowded with stuff. And people. The layout is inane. An L-shape? Really? Backtracking is inevitable. Parking -- in the garage or on the street, either way -- is a pain. It's not like this store carries bad product, however. Like I said, I love TJoe's and the TJoe's brand. But when I stopped in the other day after staying away for years, I remembered why I'll take the Bailey's Crossroads or Clarendon outposts* over this one any day. *If you get there at opening, you'll be in and out in no time. read more

I ran to Trader Joe's late with a desperate need to get flowers because I had pissed off my girlfriend pretty bad. Just as I arrived, I saw that it was closed... I was pretty bad in a hurry to find any flowers at 10 at night. I was about to walk off when one of the clerks out front asked me what I needed, I told him I was in a bad need of flowers cause of lady issues. Okay, so I admit it, I just went here for the first time last weekend and now I'm completely hooked! Trader Joe's is a dream for people like me, who like good food but either don't have the time, or don't see the point of cooking descent meals when your preparing for one. Yes, you can get ready-to-go Indian treats in your frozen food aisle at pretty much any grocery store, but not for as cheap as $2-range (and non-frozen in a sealed vacuum bag) with so much to eat you can turn it into leftovers for lunch. Plus for those people who aren't apart of the book club or haven't read Omnivore's Dilemma and still insist on buying organic, I'd go here over Whole Food's ridiculous high prices any day. The prices and selection here had me at "paper or plastic." It's probably now a new Sunday tradition. Why Sunday? Because driving into Old Town period on any other day AND finding parking is a nightmare. Yes this place has validated parking garage next door, but getting through the traffic on a weekday isn't worth it for me (and I work less than 2 miles away!) read more

My gripe with OT grocery stores (apart from Balducci's and Giant) is that you have to go to two places to get everything. For example, someone like me, who insists on pesticide-free tomatoes but ingests poisonous cigarettes and Diet Coke 24/7, has to go to CVS or some other supplemental den of death to round out my shopping mission after a trip to TJ's (or WF). Another problem is that they're out of so many things by 6 p.m. Pizza dough, chicken cutlets, chocolate-covered edamame, the guacamole pack, whole wheat crumpets--you name it, nine times out of ten they're out of it. And when you've already got five items in your basket, you just suck it up and say "oh I'll get it somewhere else." That somewhere else is always the rub in this shopping experience. Bitching aside, TJ's is a great place to have nearby, particularly for staples like tea tree oil, whole wheat pizza crust and cases of Charles Shaw. read more
