Bread is always stale, very limited selection of produce, huge lines, and no fresh meat. Shaws and Whole Foods (both nearby) have a larger selection, fresher vegetables, and a butcher on site. Also, this Trader Joe's does not sell alcohol. read more

I love Trader Joes. I always was like trader joes is so expensive. But it's really not. Sometimes you can't get exactly what you need but they do have a ton of favorites of mine. Try their low fat berry granola with Greek yogurt. Delicious. Reduced guilt Mac and cheese or reduced guilt wheat crisps. So much snacking. This one is just the right size for me. The one is Coolidge is large and overwhelming. I go in and come out with way too much. Same thing he but not quite as badly. It's well organized and offers a wide variety of, well everything. The only thing I don't like about this trader joes and most likely all trader joes is that it gets super busy after work and afternoons on the weekend. I try to go at off hours but figuring out when those are exactly are tricky. I do try to go when they open at 8 or later around 7pm. read more

**No alcohol at this location** Despite no alcohol, great selection and great prices. Much lower prices than Shaw's which is right down the street in the Pru. But this TJ's location is tiny. I have been in the middle of the day, and it is pretty crowded. But then I went around 5:30pm on a weekday, and it was crazy town. Could barely squeeze by people who go there after work, and the employees were constantly restocking the shelves. I heart Trader Joe's. It's like my long-lost hippie cousin who always has cute organic goodies in his cupboard. This TJ is a little smaller than some others, but worth a visit if you're leaving work and need to pick up a few things for dinner. Plus, one of the guys at checkout is an adorable older British gentleman named Jean-Philipe. Ok, he's got to be about 50, but I just like the fact that he has a British accent and has an adorable French name. I guess I'm very easily amused. read more

Groceries in Boston for the EXACT SAME price I pay in NC??? I couldn't believe it! But it's true!!! Trader Joe's has great food and is super cheap. I am still in shock every time I go through the check out and my bill is like $30 for a ton of food. The best part about it, is that everything I buy is super fresh and very yummy! I know this location is small, can get crowded, and most importantly lacks three-buck Chuck, but I'll take it any day of the week over Shaw's. I do venture over to Brookline to get wine every few weeks, but for day to day stuff I stick to this location since it's much closer to my house. If you haven't been, please go immediately! Valerie and Eric have loved Trader Joe's since we first hit up the store in Brookline to grab wine last Spring. We've been using the Back Bay store a lot more since it's right in between our apartments and is cheaper than the local Shaw's and Whole Foods. This TJ's is cramped. When I say cramped, we mean that you're generally going to have to wait a few minutes in line because there are only 4 or 5 registers. Also, after your first time in the store you will learn to make your shopping list in order, starting with flowers, bread, or your toothpaste and things. What this store lacks in size, it more than makes up for in service. Everyone I've run in to at this store is friendly, knowledgeable about the products, and just seems generally happy. What this TJ's misses out on most, though, is it's lack of alcohol. WHERE IS THE THREE-BUCK CHUCK!!?!?! In short: This is the best grocery store in the Back Bay. read more

My favorite grocery store in the Copley area! This location is pretty tight to push a grocery cart and has no wine cellar but have all the staples you need; milk, eggs, bread, apples, bananas, oranges, cereal, etc. I come here to get the gala apples for $0.59 each, $0.19 each for Chiquita banana and Nature Path's whole grain flakes for $2.99 which is the cheapest in comparison to Stop&Shop and Shaw's. I also like the individual on-the-go pack of almonds and trail mix. The list goes on for the other awesome things they carry and unbeatable prices. You've gotta make a visit if you haven't done so yet! read more

The elevator is always out of order which makes it extremely difficult for moms with strollers and wheelchairs. They say to ask for assistance so I did and they told me to just leave the stroller upstairs (there is no secure place to leave a stoller)(and carry the baby?) I know the space is tight but that is not an excuse to not fix their elevator for months. UPDATE : The elevator is fixed! read more

I just love this place. I am in here weekly. I love the frozen stuff and the fun chips and granola and dried fruits. Love the cereals and samples and dairy section. Fun cheese section that explains the cheeses and tells you about each cheese. Great prices. I have always been very very happy with everything I have bought here. As a huge fan of TJ's, this was my #1 go-to place for groceries. It's a TINY (underground) store, so don't come between the hours of 4-7, as that is dinner time. Which means the checkout line will snake around the entire store. But TJ's offers a ton of my personal favorites, so it's worth it! (Mochi Ice Cream, Orange Chicken, Fat Free Brownie Mix made with Organic Greek Yogurt..etc) Since this TJ's is so limited by space (and products they carry), I have to split my groceries run between here and the Shaw's across the street. Very convenient to have this mini TJ's in walking distance but why don't they open before 9 am? Every other store opens at 8.

The problem with this TJ's is that it is so limited by the space that it is in. I understand and appreciate that they have tried to make it and use the space that they have to the best of their ability but the fact still remains that is it super small, cramped, and they do not have a lot of stuff in it. I did give it 3 stars because it is in a location where no other grocery stores are and the convenience of it is helpful and at least they are here. read more

Trader Joe's rocks! This location is super tiny compared to the other TJs. It's like finding Waldo. Tiny and cramped and you have to look everywhere, but it's worth it. They carry your basic things. I usually come in here and leave with more than what I had planned to buy. Perhaps the reason it's so small, it's because it's more of a commercial area. Who knows! The staff is super friendly and the prices are cheap. I bought some vitamins online for $30 and found the same at TJs for $6.99!!! Awesome. I come to Boston for business so I usually come here and buy snacks and things to have at the office. I also bought a bunch protein shakes for like 1.79 each. The deli in NY sells them close to $5. This place is definitely worth the trip! The really downside is the long lines during lunch time. read more

I work right upstairs from this Trader Joe's, which is DANGEROUS. Need a cheap, quick lunch? The frozen burritos are delicious! Only $2.49! Vegetarian lasagne . . . $1.99!!! I can't unfortunately recommend the salads or sushi. They're kind of gross. Whenever I need to buy refreshments for my department needs, this is where I go. Big tubs of cookies, which are to die for! And I love the dark chocolate covered pretzels . . . mmmm. This is where I exclusively buy my bread now. Not only is it way less expensive than anywhere else, it is seriously the BEST bread. The people who work here are all very friendly too, and the lines move quickly. Love love love Trader Joe's. I just wish I had one close to where I live. My only other complaint is that they don't always have what you're looking for. When they run out of something, such as a certain kind of soup, they take awhile to get it in stock again. read more

If you go here right after work, there will be a long line! I showed up here at about 7pm on a Tuesday (the day before the 4th of July, no less). The line was atleast 15 customers long. I almost turned on my heel and left, but I can't leave Trader Joes empty-handed. I shouldn't have worried, really. The line moved really really quickly! No more than 7 minutes, I'd guess. And it even looked like people were buying weeks worth of groceries! A California native, I thought that I'd pick up some beer here on my way home without knowing the Massachusetts booze laws. But the woman at the free samples table schooled me. She recommended a liquor store on this block instead. read more

I went to Trader Joe's recently and was not impressed. I go to this location often, and usually have good experiences. The employees are usually very nice and helpful and the store always looks nice; however, I came across one employee (name tag said "Brian") who was quite rude. He was re-stocking shelves when I approached him. Politely, I asked if he knew where the seaweed snacks were. He gave me a look that clearly showed his impatience and frustration and said that he didn't know. Like I said, aside from this one encounter, I usually love Trader Joe's, but that employee was so rude for no reason, that I think I'll just stick to Shaw's from now on. read more

I refer to this as "the bad Trader Joe's". It has most of the stuff the other ones do, but the Brookline and Cambridge locations are so much better. I also do not like that it is in the basement. Yes, there are larger TJ's, but this one is impressive in that it seems to stock MOST of what the larger stores carry! There's a demo station that is pretty good, the same great cheese selection, floral section, tons of frozen foods, 8 billion snacks and energy bars to choose from. This store gets 5 stars because it was DEFINITELY a convenience to have that Trader Joes near Berklee when I was an undergrad. I like the escalators in and out of the store, too. read more

Trader Joe's on the West coast is so much bigger than here - more of the same with a greater variety of vegetarian fare. Alas, I kind of need this place in my life and the essentials can be found in this basement store. Mac and cheese? Check. Yogurt, organic milk and nuts? Check, check, and check. Ability to squeeze assortment of foods into the size of my garage: 4 stars Samples? Check. Free flowing coffee? WTF, why not? Everywhere else does it. I will overlook this setback and still appreciate their existence, ever so tiny, on the East coast. But let's face it, size matters. 2 stars for size and underground locale. read more

Smallest TJ in the US of A It's true, the cashier told me and I also looked it up. Its kind of cute that its small and has just the quintessential necessities, but sometimes people want variety. This is the closest TJ location to me besides the huge on in Alston, that has basically everything you need from a TJ. Other downside from this Back Bay location, no alcohol, well downside for me. However, the upscale of this tiny TJ, they have wonderful customer service, they always cater to me ask if I need help finding anything! read more

It's worth taking the T out to Brookline to get the full Trader Joe's experience, but if you don't have the time, this one will suffice. It's a small, underground treasure box full of deliciousness. I adore the Fenway painting above the escalator. The TJ's in my hometown always seem to have a nautical or tropical theme so this is a fun change for me. The frozen section is extensive and pretty much the key to "cooking" gourmet on a time frame. Personal favorites are Fettucini and Mushrooms, the Gnocchi alla Sorentina, and the Garlic Fries. My roommate is obsessed with the Cat Cookies, buying them 4 buckets at a time. (That's some impressive consumption right there!) If you want a lot of brand name staples like Kraft Mac & Cheese and Captain Crunch cereal, get your butt on over to Shaws. But if you like a slightly healthier, probably organic version, and don't want to pay the inflated prices at Whole Foods, this little Trader Joe's is your stepping stone to culinary success. A little tragic that I can't furnish a wine and cheese party with the ridiculously cheap wine Trader Joe's offers me at home (2 buck Chuck anyone?) but that's just Boston for you... read more

BUT, this Left Coaster can't get enough of the Cali friendliness, foodie culture, and convenience of unique, affordable nosh on Boylston--5-stars! We don't have a TJ's in Jville, so I was extra excited to come here! I love the selection of Indian food as well as organic eats. I was limited to purchasing non perishable items, but I still came out with a lot. This is fast becoming my favorite grocery store. I fill up the top half of the "urban grocery cart" and that's usually about the maximum I can carry back to Dot with me. It's really amazing how much they pack into this store. As a former frequenter of the Cambridge location (when there was a car available to me) I really don't go much for want in this location. It has all the same "problems" as any other Trader Joes, things are out of stock (Hello frozen brown rice) but if you shop early and shop often you can get everything you want. The staff always have recommendations and really know the products - and I appreciate that, it makes me love Trader Joes that much more. I also feel better about shopping at TJ's because I come home with a lot more than I would at Stop and Shop, at least a lot more things I feel good about. My last trip to S&S was $35 and I got oatmeal,cereal, granola bars and some cans of beef stew out of it. Waaaah waaaah. $35 at TJ's gets me a a number of dinners and snacks! (priorities?) I'm not sure why so many people talk about the wine and beer selection for this location, because they don't have it - unless I'm missing something here. I always have fun shopping here, as is evident by my bulging muscles from carrying WAY too much home via MBTA. read more

I LOVE TRADER JOES. Here's why: -all their frozen veggies are awesome. They are precooked to perfection so all you have to do is literally throw them in a pan. I've used them to make awesome pasta dishes, stir frys, sandwiches, salads, you name it. -their tasting station has tons of good ideas! I almost always get what they are cooking up. -um it is cheeap. seriously. for the quality you get, you're paying 1/4 of what you'd pay at whole foods. -new and interesting frozen things (pesto bread with tomatoes my new fave) that are always rotating, and always pretty healthy. There are a couple of problems with this particular location. -tiny, esp produce section! -no wine?!?! -gets soooo busy around 6pm. But OMG, I go here at least once a week and I could live off of what they have in their frozen section. read more

Normally I'd give any Trader Joe's a 5-star rating, but this one is missing two things: -Wine (TWO-BUCK CHUCK, WHERE YOU AT?!) -Produce? (Yeah there is some produce but the selection is oddly limited.) However! Great products, dirt cheap. I used the TJ brand pomodoro sauce every day for a month and it had only cost me like $3. Decent bread; good pastas (WAY CHEAP); great meats (best burgers I've ever made!). Even a cheese section with some pretty nice stuff, even for how small it is. This is one place where you should always go for the store brand; it IS good, and it's very cheap. The kicker: Got a mini-party-platter of sushi (I think it was like 24 pieces?) for $5.99. And no, it didn't suck; it was actually pretty good! Suck on that, Whole Foods! (Byyy the way... my last $28 grocery trip to TJ, after I compared, would have cost about $50 at Whole Foods. Let that sink in for a sec.) I've heard great things about their chocolate, too, but I haven't dared yet... As for how cramped it is... Yes, it's cramped. But the lines move VERY quickly. I actually take the T on occasion to go to this store instead of Whole Foods. It's THAT big of a deal. read more

I am so happy that my friend was able to convince me that Trader Joe's not only has better food, but is cheaper than Shaw's and Whole Foods. Everything I have made so far has been delicious, my total cost was about half of what I usually spend at Shaw's, I can find lots of whole grains that I can't find elsewhere (red quinoa!!), and the staff is SO friendly and helpful. My cashier even gave me 2 recipes to try out while he was ringing me up. The fact that it is really cramped is what makes Trader Joe's lose a star for me. If you're heading there on a Sunday afternoon you better know exactly what you want or else be prepared to get shoved into the frozen foods. read more
