I cannot express just how much I absolutely love Trader Joe's. Me inside TJ's is like a kid in a candy store (no joke). Even though this store is way further than other grocery options, I will still make the 20+ minute trek out here. Yes, the shop is tiny and super cramped, but I think TJ's still has the best food selections out of all grocery stores in the city. Plus, I was able to find everything I wanted from my grocery list (and then some). Because the store is smaller, the layout becomes a bit less intuitive (e.g. I grab my crackers from above the freezers of the frozen food section). This is compounded by the fact that there's pretty much always a huge crowd of customers, and also store employees restocking shelves. However, everyone's pretty polite and friendly, so it's not an ordeal to navigate the store. The checkout line can be a bit long, but the cashiers are super efficient at getting through the line. Plus, they're great at packing things into your bags. Even when I have a shopping cart full of items, they're able to fit everything into 2 bags without crushing anything. I do wish it were a bit closer to the T (it's a couple minutes to walk to either Hynes or Copley, which can be a bit trickier if you're lugging two huge bags of groceries). I'm a huge fan of TJ's and whenever I encounter a new one I've never been to I make it a point to check it out. Wandering through the Copley Square area of Boston my girlfriend and I were delighted to run across a familiar store! We went into this small store front and down a set of escalators into what must be the smallest TJ's I've ever encountered. Small as it was this TJ's had everything I expected to find, and in an odd way everything was ordered very similar to how others were such as having oatmeal by the cereal, frozen goods with a row of cookies on shelves above and so on. Even the snacks were near the coffee like the TJ's I normally frequent. There was also a mini-version of the "free samples" table. The staff was very nice from the cashiers to the young lady giving out free samples. I also noted the prices were very much the same as the TJ's by me in New Jersey. In general everything was the same, you just had to get used to smaller aisles. Overall it's good to know this place is in the area, giving you an option to grab some eats or snacks without having to hit an expensive restaurant or cafe. read more

You're not going to believe this, but I will say it nonetheless. I once bought a six-pack of granola bars here for 99 cents. In all likelihood, some numerically-negligent employee forgot a digit at the front of the price tag. Imagine my helpless gratitude when, in an act of saintly grace, the cashier rang it up as 99 cents anyway. And these weren't even those syrupy bars of dry, granolafied concrete that blemish the faces of vending machines on college campuses across America. Went in looking for some bottled water to bring into the Convention Center, and Trader Joes sold me for $0.49, a bottle of spring water similar to what the Convention Center sells for $2.75. Walking around this Trader Joes, this store offers a similar selection to what you find in other stores, however I noticed immediately...there is NO BEER and wine. The Trader Joes that do sell beer, wine and spirits usually have a great selection (of TJ branded, really affordable beer, vodka, tequila, rum, etc... as well as microbrew and premium stuff), so I was really shocked. I asked the cashier and he explained to me that in MA, there is a law preventing chain stores like Trader Joes from selling liquor in more than 3 locations per city, as small liquor stores cry about the competition... I go to two Trader Joe's frequently, this one and the other one in Coolidge Corner. I've never had a bad experience in both. It's actually amazing how much this location is able to fit into such a tight space. That being said, it's practically shopping gridlock if you show up here during peak times. The line will actually start to weave through the aisles and you couldn't tell if that person was being super indecisive about which brand of olive oil to buy or if they were on line. This location is the smallest Trader Joe's I've been in and despite it not having an alcohol section, it does carry all the essentials you will need in a typical grocery run. As always, service is always great and the staff aren't afraid to show their appreciation when you use a reusable bag. read more

I am impressed with how they squeeze as much grocery as possible in that tiny space, yet still keep good presentation and no looking cluttered. This place has 1.5 isles. That's it. They have the cheapest bananas in Boston. I am also impressed with how they select what to stock. Because I sometimes feel that they have ESP to read my mind. I usually can find what I am looking for here. Only thing they couldn't read my mind was butternut squash. This is cool underground Trader Joe's. Was disappointed they didn't carry alcohol, but oh well , still found some great finds.

It's a tiny tiny space, which makes it difficult to maneuver your cart without bumping into something or someone... (my greatest fear = to knock down a shelf full of items & it be 100% my fault & i would be the biggest laughingstock of the year) But regardless of how tiny this TJ is, they do offer a large selection of their boxed and frozen products. However they do NOT sell alcohol... (no 2-buck chucks here) :-/ I came here looking for apples and left with $46 worth of goods... so proceed with caution. Is there a better grocery store out there?! I don't usually review grocery stores, but I felt the need to share my experience. A couple of days ago I walked in to get a few items with my sleeping baby in the stroller. The small handicap lift was out of order and as I turned back to walk out the door one of the staff saw me and asked if he could help. He offered to help me by carrying the stroller down, which I declined because I'd have to take baby out for him to do that and I didn't want to wake baby. He then offered to do my shopping for me and insisted when I was hesitant because I didn't want to trouble him. He promptly returned with the items, and when I offered to tip him he didn't accept, saying, "don't worry, trader joe's takes care of us." No wonder they're all so happy and friendly all the time! I was so touched by this experience and wanted to somehow credit them for the great job they're doing. read more

The best experience! I was looking at my phone going through which trader joe items I had saved to buy. A TJ employee stops and asks " can I help you find something?" He then went skipping through the entire store helping me find the 10 items I wanted.. I was done in five minutes! At the end he said " this was quick and fun!" Small and extremely limited offerings-clearly the foot traffic and $$ here is so good they don't even need to try to put more of their products here, which is fine. During a Sunday evening, the checkout lined looped around a shelf of stuff and back. Since this location is right off of Newbury St. and next to Prudential Center, it's likely there are more people picking up a quick few things and a snack than getting groceries for the week. Make an express checkout line for people with 5 items or less or something like that. It would definitely make the process smoother for everyone. . . read more

If you want a great deal, you go to Trader Joe's. Their products and produce is fresh, organic and for the most part, delicious. You will not find your typical brands as you were in the Big Chain supermarkets. This market roots for the under dog but important brands. I have loved and will continue to love shopping there for very affordable rack of lamb, to delicious mac and cheese, and fresh cold cuts and vegetables and fantastic cereal brands. What I love about it, it is they get food from the world. My thought is if you want to go get organic foods but affordable come here instead of the Whole Foods. read more

I absolutely love this Trader Joe's location! I go in here all the time for groceries. It is a small store, which makes it a little tough to navigate when it's busy, but that isn't anything that can really be helped. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they do an amazing job bringing the line (which sometimes wraps around like half the store) down quickly. They work fast but I never feel like I am being rushed by them. Additionally, the prices are very reasonable. I love coming here : ) read more

Very crowded and chaotic, but I absolutely love coming here. I never see my go-to's out of stock, and the staff is extremely friendly. If you've never been to Trader Joe's - it's no Whole Foods. The prices are low and there's a lot of prepared and frozen food choices. I love grabbing their bags of avocados, sausage, uncured bacon (YES!), cheese, snacks like pretzel thins... The selection is great. The vegetables and fruit are always cheap and fresh too, definitely way better than the Star Market down the street. Probably the smallest Trader Joe's out there, but if you go consistently you learn quickly what they do and do not carry (in comparison to other locations). I HIGHLY suggest not going between the hours of 5-6pm (unless you want to shop around the 20+ person line that snakes between the aisles). Items are priced perfectly and staff is always willing to assist. Their nut butters are fantastic and they have a large array of unique items that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere (cauliflower pizza crust, everything bagel flavored seasoning, etc). read more

I visited this store on 3/7. A friendly, helpful cashier pointed me in the direction of what appeared to be a customer service station/Manager Desk to inquire about the availability of a Fearless Flyer, since the cashier wasn't sure. I walked over, and simply asked (whom I assumed to be) the manager if he had any. At the time, I did not realize there is a pause between printings, and he did not have sufficient customer service skills to explain this in a kind manner. He just made an abrupt gesture with his hands as though annoyed that I disturbed him with such a stupid question, and in a rude tone said "They're done!" Until that day, all Trader Joe's employees have made my shopping experiences enjoyable. Maybe this man was having a bad day, but come on, at least treat your customers nicely. I am looking forward to buying a lot of gifts for an upcoming trip to Japan and the Fearless Flyers always aid the process. I was a little cautious coming here with the shopping list I had for the party we were having. It wasn't TJ's fault... it was because some of the things on the list were, well, a little strange. Rewind. Katya is moving. What do you do when you move? Clean out your cabinets. How do you do it? By throwing a party and disguising it as a Christmas/Homecoming party. Okay, here's the list.... Cream Cheese: needed to mix with an old jar of TJs pumpkin butter- NEVER DO THIS. As my friend M said, "That looks like something I saw today working at the hospital." Mozz Balls: Needed because... well, cheese is just amazing and when it comes in balls soaked in olive oil and spices? Yeah. Can I mention that at $5 something they were very affordable? Baby Tomatoes: The perfect partner in crime to the mozz balls and the jar of olives that we were trying to polish off. Organic too.... TJ's, time to *brush your shouldas off* Artichokes: You know you are in a good grocery store when they have three artichoke choices for your dip. FYI, I definitely got the wrong one. When making my next spinach artichoke dip I will get the chopped artichoke. Though the ones soaking in olive oil and spices were pretty damn good. (See "Mozz Balls" for my opinion of things soaked in olive oil) Cocktail sauce: This was a tough one so I asked for help. One woman, although she was handing out samples (YES, SAMPLES) kindly pointed me in the right direction. Then the manager (aren't you supposed to be preoccupied with more important things and unapproachable? You weren't so thank you!) asked if he could help so together we searched and finally found it by the seafood. I wish we actually used the sauce- turned out the freezer held only 6 shrimp which shrunk considerably when we cooked them.... Who knew? Wine Opener: Unfortunately this TJs doesn't have wine, which was my only gripe. I will still be getting my 2 buck chuck at the Brookline location. Tortilla Chips: I even had my choice of organic or non-organic (guess which one I chose?), white or yellow, etc. Crackers: $1.29 for a whole box? YES, PLEASE- let them eat crackers. Parmesan Cheese: Seriously tasted like I got it in the North End.... PS- As a Hawaii transplant, the fact that the staff wears aloha shirts makes me smile. I LOVE TJ's! This tiny store is always packed... you can expect a long line, but the line moves quickly. I stand in line for no longer than a few minutes. They have unique food & great deals. Also free samples... Some of my favorites include **Green Tea Mochi **Fried Eggplant Cutlets **Joe Joe's (oreo dup... their vanilla cookies are my favorite and they have real vanilla bean specks!) **Dried Chili Spiced Mango **Blood Orange Italian Soda **Pasta (in the refrigerator section... goat cheese w/sundried tomato ravioli- delicious) High quality fresh produce and frozen veggies... but their fresh produce is usually pretty limited at this location. This location doesn't have any alcohol. If you want alcohol/larger TJ store, check out the one in Coolridge Corner. read more

God bless Trader Joe's. While this is the teeniest TJ's in the area (indeed in the entire country) I love it. It's so compact that it only takes one or two visits before you have the entire store memorized and can blaze through in 15 minutes emerging with a week's worth of food. For $30. Shaw's won't even spit in my eye for that amount. If you're looking for an abundance of fresh produce you'll need to look elsewhere but their selection is typically sufficient for every day use. I can't say that I have ever purchased leafy greens that weren't a wee bit on the funky side but that seems to be TJ's as a whole. Pro-Tip: Don't be afraid if you come in and the line wraps through the entire store, the awesome staff will cruise through it in under five minutes. read more

While it pains me that this location does not sell beer or my beloved Two Buck Chuck, I love it nonetheless. I love that it has the cheapest milk I've found in Back Bay, and I love that I can get dinners here for around $2. Everything is delicious and mostly everything is healthy. It is a small store, so it can get crowded, especially at night and on the weekends. The best time to come is daytime during the week. The employees here are super friendly and nice. I went shopping this morning and I got: 1 gallon of milk organic woodfired sicilian style pizza with red pepper, provolone & pearl mozzarella cheese ricotta & spinach tortelloni with red pesto chipotle pepper hummus eggplant garlic spread high fiber cereal vegetable pad thai cheese enchiladas roasted gorgonzola flavored oven crisp crackers total: $23.90 Pretty good, considering I got a few staples and a few delicious dinners and snacks, and this should last me for about a week or so. The only things I don't buy here are produce (I go to Haymarket) and cheese (I wait for Shaw's to put it on sale). Also, they have bags of flour for $3. Love it! read more

I'm putting my usual love for Trader Joe's aside and reviewing for only this location. I've been here a couple times now and continue to be frustrated on the size. I think I have to move out of the way 3-4 times or wait for someone else to move before grabbing an item I want. There's so many people passing through the narrow aisles I think I spend more time scooting one way or another than I do shopping. Due to the small space, the check out line wraps around a small corner of the store. It's best to wait until you're in line to shop through that area, but the downside is your have to shop fast because the line keeps scooting. If you have to go here, know what you're coming for and get out as fast as possible. read more

Trader Joes has much yummier and healthier food than your shaws or stop and shop and is cheaper than your standard grocery store. Why go to whole foods? It does have a limited selection and you cant just go there with a shopping list and find everything. The best is their selection of frozen foods..very convenient and great for taking to work for lunch. Oh and the cheeses...mmmm cheese. Also good for chocolate, cooking oils and jars of various asian sauces and curries. read more

Now that I'm nearby, I come here quite often. Usually a quick stop for $30 - $40 of groceries. I wouldn't recommend it for larger grocery runs because the produce selection is somewhat limited and the quality is inconsistent. On the plus side, despite being small and frequently busy, they do a great job getting people checked out quickly. The staff are consistently friendly and they make the layout work. If it's crowded and there's anything you need from the frozen foods or nuts/baking/chips area, just get what you need elsewhere and get in line as you'll have enough time shuffling through those areas to get what you need. My only significant complaint with this TJ's (and most TJ's in general) is that the produce can be pretty bad sometimes. TJ's seems to do enough volume and be a big enough player that they can get better fruits and veggies. It's no one thing that tends to be bad, it's kind of random. You'll buy something and it'll be rotten the next day. To their credit, every time I've had this happen I just mention it at the register and they credit me back. This kind of service keeps me coming back so kudos for that. read more

The Back Bay Trader Joe's is a fascinating little jaunt in the Berklee College of Music neighborhood. As one goes down the escalator,there's a colorful mural of Boston landmarks- Fenway Park, the Paul Revere statue, the bridge over the Charles River. It has local flavor. It's good as a destination for everyday staples like olive oil,pasta,fruits and vegetables. Since it's a tiny Trader Joe's,the selection is incredibly limited. It's a contrast to the West Coast TJ's that are virtual cornucopias. It's good for necessities. It's not the usual TJ's extravaganza,but it's got good prices and good service, which counts. If you're a tourist in Bean Town, this is an affordable destination! read more
