Neat grocery store. They offer a myriad of slightly exotic groceries under their own brand and for the fraction of the price of buying similar items at Whole Foods or Central market style places. The stock is limited though, if you're looking for options upon options of similar items you're out of luck at Trade Joe's. They are able to price what they do sell so low because they carry so few options in inventory/SKU's. Not the place to go if you need brand name toiletries, cleaners, etc. BUT definitely a great store for what's going to be on your dinner plate later that night. read more

Size: large, with a huge wine section Ergonomics: I don't like the way they arranged the to-go-food section. Usually there should be a large selection right by the door for people in a hurry. For me this was a hard task to accomplish. I had to go looking for it, and even passed by it, completely missed it, back track to see that the options are meh...... Waiting in line: I don't know when the next counter is available. I love Trader Joe's! It's definitely my go to place when I need a pick me up. I don't usually do my regular grocery shopping here just because of price and availability of certain items, but it's a great place for many other things. I always like to check out their seasonal items that they update pretty frequently, especially during the fall with all their pumpkin items. Their frozen foods are also great, my recent favorites have been the Mac and cheese bites and their organic wood fired Sicilian style pizza. Also, their coffee is surprisingly good! My recent favorite has been their Autumn Maple Coffee (although I'm sad it's no longer available since it was a seasonal item). They also have a great selection of wines at an affordable price, and pair that with their great selection of cheeses for the perfect girls night! I've been a trader joes customer a long time and love their brand and stores. I'm really glad they are in Houston! This one has a cool theme since it used to be a movie theater. Some of my favorite things to buy at TJs: -wine -peanut butter pretzels -some of their frozen foods have been good over the years (indian food) -speculoos cookies! -Mediterranean and three bean hummus -dark chocolate almonds with sea salt and turbinado sugar Some things I wish they (TJs as a whole) still carried: -Indian paratha bread -triple ginger brew -there was a pumpkin pie they used to carry about 10 years ago that was better than most home baked Such a great grocery store. Oh, how I love Trader Joe's! This is such a great place to shop! Everyone is always so friendly there! They have a nice selection of cheeses, wine, frozen meals and snacks. I'm not sure if I would be able to get all my grocery-shopping done here but I can definitely pick up a few items. Below are some of the items I picked up during this visit: Cilantro Salad Dressing - I wish I had bought more than one bottle because I love this stuff! White Bean & Basil Hummus - This was my first time to try it. I love it. Very flavorful!! Garlic Naan Bread - What can I say other than YUM! It's great with the hummus too. Super Lemony Lemon Bites - These were surprisingly delicious! My boyfriend liked them too! Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies - These were OK. Not my favorite. HEB's are much better! This location has ample parking (there is additional parking in the back). It's always clean and service is great! Also, the prices are very reasonable! I am going to leave this area and I will miss this Trader Joe's! I have been going to this Trader Joe's almost every week since it opened back in 2012. I have successfully converted my current roommate to a patron of Trader Joe's. Both of us decide to continue going to Trader Joe's at our future residential area. Why I like this Trader Joe's so much: 1. The store sells organic food in reasonable prices. 2. The food is always in a package, so I won't get a cucumber or a bunch of celery that has been touched by hundreds of people. 3. The place is compact, yet the product types are versatile. I can purchase a week's grocery in this place within 10 minutes; while it takes me over 20 minutes to wander around H-E-B, whole foods, Kroger, or any grocery stores at China Town. Even though this store is an American-style store, it also carries Asian-style food, e.g., walnut shrimp, shiitake mushroom chicken (my roommate's favorite dish!), shrimp/pork dumplings, Korean-style pancakes, and sometimes I can even buy peeled chestnut, so I don't need to drive to China Town and still enjoy many kinds of Asian-style food of high qualify and superb flavor. read more

Love this location! Huge space and looks like and old renovated movie theatre. Parking can be a little challenging on the weekends but it's worth it. They give samples of coffee, wine and food. My first time coming to a Trader Joe's was this visit and it was amazing and everything I thought it would be. All of the associates are friendly and willing to help you out. One associate was restocking and let me choose from what she was putting out since it was fresh. Everything is very well kept. They have a nice selection of flowers and produce! (A big plus for any grocery store). I love how there are healthier options and even a few things to indulge in like the peanut butter cups and cookie butter! This was our first trip in Trader Joe's. While it was nice inside and wasn't very busy, I was still underwhelmed. Like all the good stores, we have to travel 1.5 hrs + to this location. The outside of the store is amazing and appeals to the geek in me. I wish I had seen the sign for additional parking in the back of the store! The selections are great and I love the cut flowers section. In fact it was one of my favorite parts about the store. While we will be back, we won't be making special trips to just this store. Unless we run out of coffee. There was no wait time in line and check out was efficient. We didn't get much beyond the "Hello, did you find everything ?" and "Your total is..." for customer service, it wasn't the worst we've had. Our bag was packed perfect which is one of my pet peeves when done incorrectly. this was perfect. All in all, while not the greatest we'll be back. read more

I love this store. I used to get wine there because they have a wide selection. I love their fresh fruits and veggies. Sometimes I get their meyer lemon cookies and the english coastal cheddar is awesome. The service is always friendly and they were the only ones that had a yellow meat watermelon for $3 this year. Only had one bad experience when a cashier did not give me correct change. I called immediately and the manager gave me my money back and took her off the register. There are two things that absolutely make or break a grocery store for me: wine and coffee. The Barefoot Moscato was the cheapest I've found it anywhere! BUT when I asked if they had La Colombe coffee or any more selections of cheeses the man working the floor looked at me like I had two heads! I guess Trader Joe's can't have it all! Perhaps the most shocking thing about this location is the incident that took place after I parked. Before even walking into the store I was ATTACKED by a bird (I would guess a grackle or a rock dove) that almost knocked my everything bagel out of my hand before I could rush into the store! I was craving ice cream, so I thought I would stop at Kroger and then realized I was crazy for living in a town that doesn't have TJoe's and to have even considered visiting a generic grocery store while I was in Houston. Anyway I ended up here and blissfully walked down every single aisle and walked out without ice cream. I did find a pumpkin mousse bar that's really a pumpkin cheesecake brownie (!!!). I also found the famed everything but the bagel seasoning, pumpkin biscotti, chai mix, "a fig walks into a bar" bars, mini stroop wafels (!!!), ghost pepper chips, and buffalo jerky. The line was literally the length of an entire aisle and extended into the produce section, so just make sure you have everything you need before getting in line. read more

This review is about the management . On Jan. 28th of this year, I took my mom to drop off her dog to get groomed next door, my mom is a diabetic and a stubborn one at that. Took her meds in the morning but didn't have breakfast, we were picking up some dog treats for her dog when she was starting to have a hypoglycemic episode. I looked around didn't see anything so I ran next door to Trader Joes and grabbed an orange juice, ran to pay for it. I freaked out because I saw this ONE long line, so I ran to management and explained to them what was going on. The gentleman, which I believe was the manager told me "just take the juice". I left some money and ran back to my mom. Well, she got better, so I finished the shopping for her. But while I was doing that, and she was sitting, trying to regain her strength, the manager from Trader Joes came by to check on her and to see if she needed anything. That was really nice of him to go out of his way to check on a complete stranger. So Kudos to the manager at Trader Joes!!! We need more people like you. read more

I consider myself a supermarket expert - not just because like most Americans this is where I buy my food, but because I wrote my college thesis on their evolution (super interesting, I swear!) - so you can imagine my excitement at getting a Trader Joe's just down the street! Let's be clear and acknowledge that TJ's isn't the greatest place ever; the produce is limited, fresh seafood and meat is non-existent, and if you're a foodie planning an elaborate meal you probably won't find all your ingredients here (I really needed some rosemary today and their spice selection leaves something to be desired!). That being said, I appreciate the chain for the following reasons: * It's small! Unlike H-E-B, and other super-stores, I can usually get in and get out in under 15 minutes with a pretty hefty amount of stuff. There are just 4 aisles along with the produce and beer/wine section. I like. * Cheese...'nuff said. Great variety and at about half the price you'll pay at the supermarket. Want some goat cheese? Get 8-10oz for $3.99! Make a beautiful baked brie without breaking the bank! * Good wine at $2.99. No brainer. * Affordable and simple flower bouquets by the door that are perfect for spicing up your dinner table:) * I like the people who work there - they seem happy. Trader Joe's and I go way back. It was the first grocery store at which I regularly shopped on my own in college. I remember buying a bottle of wine right after I turned 21 to have with dinner and feeling like I had finally arrived. It wasn't two-buck chuck because I was "above" such wines back then. Now I'm mature enough to know that alcohol is alcohol. I've had flings with so many of the products there now that I prowl the aisles with almost ruthless efficiency. It's a little sad because there was a time when my cart would be full of fun stuff like Pumpkin Butter, Maple Leaf Cremes, Candy Cane Jo-Jo's, Soft and Juicy Dried Mangoes, the Mini Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches, the brie with truffles, Almond Sparkling Wine, you get the picture. Now I stick to the staples like the bagged arugula and spinach, the cheap organic Persian cucumbers, the awesome brown sugar mini-wheats and...two buck chuck. That's the beauty of Trader Joe's. There's no other grocery store that enables people choose from such a variety of gourmet, organic and pre-prepared foods at supremely affordable prices. Trader Joe's makes it easy and fun to eat at home, whether you're a student with very irregular hours like me or a veteran home cook. The frozen aisles have an incomparable selection of foods from all over the world. The Indian frozen meals are honestly better than most Indian restaurants I've tried, for example. Virtually all of the parties I've thrown have been put together in an afternoon due to Trader Joe's hors d'oeuvres. Their dips, bagged salads and smoked salmon have, for years, formed the basis for delicious, healthy lunches that I make in under ten minutes. Items such as Belgian chocolate, dried fruits and nuts and pantry items such as herbs and various sea salts are of the highest quality and so, so much cheaper than what you'd find anywhere else. While the snack foods are touted often, the health food staples are superb. Hemp powder is cheaper there than at any other grocery store in Houston I've found and the same goes for quinoa. Trader Joe's has serviced all of my food needs like no other grocery store. It's especially great if you're not in the habit of cooking regularly but like to eat at home whenever possible. And yes, it brings you that glee you had as a little kid at the grocery store and there were oh-so-many treats to choose from. Except that these treats are far more delicious and imaginative than the Chunky Bars you would coerce your hapless dad into buying during his wine-and-mustard runs. Thanks to you Trader Joe's there are going to be even more fuzzy memories of the night before, and the lingering taste of $2.99 wine. When I lived in Dc/Va for 3 years, I loooved going to TJ's for tasty healthy snacks, and a wide variety of frozen goodies and organic fruit. I love that this particular Trader Joe's kept the West Alabama theme alive, with movie posters and the original sign in the front. Cookie Butter-- Unless you want to gain 10 lbs, I suggest you stay away, although this stuff in delish, its reserved for treat time only. I love their selection of wasabi based items like mango, mayo, and other dried veggies. Perfect for a healthy office snack. They have a ton of yogurt, cheeses, and already made dinners. Basil plant for $2.99, yes please! This isn't a full on grocery store for those who don't know, but its a great alternative to pop in for dinner, wine, and specialty items. Finally, the prices are REASONABLE! Each time I leave Whole Foods, I'm left scratching my head that I just spent $85.99 on ONE bag of food, to make dinner for MYSELF. I am freaked out by large crowds. I am freaked out by people in my bubble. And therefore TJ on the second day of opening was probably not the best time for me to visit. Regardless, I was stoked and had to be there. My premonition was accurate, and it was like walking the busy streets of Tokyo or Hong Kong. People all up in my business. No seriously, you can have these Ginger Snaps if you want them so bad!! Having said that, glad you're here and can't wait to actually experience you when you aren't all the rage. You do carry all the things you're supposed to after all but there was no way to actually buy those items in less than 30 minutes when the line winded around the store. Will have to come back when it's less busy, 0800 - 2100 (parking in front with more in rear) every day and no longer have to go up to land of woods to catch up with ya. - Second time around was better at eight in the morning: but no ginger snaps. What we both LIKED VERY MUCH ABOUT THIS STORE..is some of the specialty items they carry, NOT found in other places for reasonable prices I might add.. specifically the MOCHI ICE CREAM.. okay.. this alone hands down is worth the trip!!! If you love to eat mochi ice cream from some of the jap restaurants and enjoyed it.. you will love this! In the freezer section, you can buy a box of 6 huge moshi ice cream balls for about a little over $3 or $4? That's quite a deal to me considering what you get at a restaurant and the cost attached. My daughter loves this stuff..and it's def not something you can find at HEB, Kroger, or even Whole Foods! Boo-yah! You will be pleasantly surprised at how good it taste ..for this price we were expecting mediocre at best..NOPE. The quality of this stuff will make you want to slap somebody!! (LOL). No seriously, it's that good, they have mango, strawberry, green tea and I believe chocolate? They sell best in that order (per the guy who was re-stocking them). We also bought blueberry, cheesecake icecream along with some other frozen goodies. They are like little wedges on a stick. We also found some sour cream puffs that were yum for a huge bag of $1.99...that you won't find anywhere else either!! I believe they have cheese flavor too, but were sold out. I've never been to a Trader Joe's before, but I'd had enough of listening to my friends rave about it, so I stopped in today. Oh my God!! How cool is this place!?! It's not as big as I thought it would be, but maybe the locations vary in size; I don't know. It's not likely to stop you having to go to a full-blown grocery store, as Trader Joe's has food items only. No toothpaste, no batteries, no detergent. But what it does have is what I'd call "premium and imported foods" if I was at any other store. And they have them very cheaply!! Yes they do have "healthy" crap, but mostly it's all that wonderfully bad for you chocolate-dipped thingamajigs and and bacon-wrapped whatchamacallits. Dried fruits, olive oils, sauces, pastas, cheeses, cookies, and snack foods galore. Let's face it, we all know we want to eat this stuff. Who can live on rice cakes and alfalfa sprouts? Who'd want to!?! Puke!!! The checkout lane is fairly poorly thought out and incredibly long, but to the employees everlasting credit, they really move the crowd through there. The place is sparkling and the staff are bizarrely cheerful and efficient for working at a "grocery store". Fiesta workers, take a lesson!! I'll definitely be returning on a regular basis. In terms of quality of TJ's out there -- better than the Midwest, almost on par with California. How to shop at TJ's: - Buy staples like olive oil, frozen salmon, prepared meals, wine - Avoid the produce and sliced / fresh meats (it's just not worth it, doesn't taste good, etc) I love TJ's for their prepared meals, staples, the frozen food and wine / beer aisles are my favorite. Personal favorites: - Pumpkin macaroons (in the freezer aisle) - Seriously, RIDICULOUSLY good. Want all of them. NOW. - The Chinese frozen stir fries - Shrimp corndogs (you read that right, and they are amazing) - Eggplant parmesan - their house baked cherry pie (seasonal) - Sparkle waters (the orange, oddly, is my favorite) - Cookie aisle (located in the freeze aisle above the frozen goodies), specifically the stroopwaffles and the chocolate chip dunkers - Organic lollipops (ridiculously addicting and wonderfully tart) - Kosher turkeys (they are small and are the only turkeys I found to fit PERFECTLY into a turkey fryer, usually around 13-14 pounds). I am digging all this variety in my neighborhood! Now I have H.E.B. and Trader Joe's down the street from me? Awesome. My favorite thing about Trader Joe's is the wine, they have decent wines for under $10. And now that I don't have Fiesta for their wine selection anymore, this is an acceptable replacement. The other thing that is important to know about Trader Joe's is that this is not a one stop shop. You can't get all of your grocery needs from here. They have specialty foods and in general have less selection. 80% of their goods is private label, they stock up on a limited amount of items and therefore are able to bring you lower prices on those selected items. You shouldn't go to Trader Joe's expecting to get whatever you want. Its about what they want to sell you! Fortunately they offer some pretty neat, niche specialty foods so it's definitely worth it to keep an open mind. The store itself is a nice one, they kept the original ceilings of the Alabama Theater so that makes me happy. I will always miss Bookstop, but at least the new occupants didn't lose all the history of this building. Oh and David is right, the raisin rosemary crackers are pretty good! read more

I would give this Trader Joes 5 stars if they only had everything I love! I'm from Cali and I miss some of the inventory they just can't seem to get over here. I've been wanting the ice wine so badly but they still haven't received it. They have to follow Texas law and cannot purchase alcohol from in-state vendors. TJ literally has to sell their wine to Texas and buy it back from the same vendor to legally distribute to the Texas TJ locations. *sighs* such a pity, since that is the reason for the small selection of alcohol. I do love their pumpkin seasons, October/November. I regret not stocking up on more items. The staff at this location is hilarious, guys whistling while they work and cracking jokes and doing their jobs happily. They are always willing to help. I love this place! I wouldn't say I'm obsessed like some of the other TJ groupies, but I definitely enjoy coming here and understand the hype. I wouldn't recommend shopping at Trader Joe's for your entire grocery list - You have to know how to shop here and what's worth it to get the best deal. You can't beat the prices for wine here. The 2 buck chuck is the way to go, but they have a huge variety of reds and whites that won't even come close to breaking the bank. I also come here for nuts, dried fruit (mango is my favorite), coffee, and some of their frozen meals/snacks. I love their gyoza, and I will occasionally stock up on some of their frozen meals if I know I won't have tons of time to cook throughout the week. Desserts/sweet bites are the best here too. Staff is always friendly, and the line moves pretty quickly. My only request would be for them to have at least 1 express lane similar to other grocery stores -- Sometimes I'll run in just for coffee or a bottle of wine (k let's be real...maybe a few bottles), and it seems unnecessary to wait in a crazy long line. They do move quickly though, and the staff is very helpful if you need assistance carrying your bags out. Big perk: I was buying their dark chocolate sea salt caramels the other day and the cashier asked if I wanted to try one before. I mean, I did, but I was going to buy them anyway. We cheersed our chocolates and then I was able to take the rest for the road. Day made! read more
