I love Trader Joe's. The flavors of the foods, the inexpensive cards, the super fresh flowers, the delicious wines which come with employee recommendations and very friendly and helpful staff keep me coming back. I like their seasonal foods and the fact that the checkers bag up my selections for me. The negatives are the limited parking (the lot is way too small) and the produce items tend to be wrapped in a lot of plastic. Other than that, it's a great store and I love shopping here. I love this place! I'm newly pregnant and I shared that with the employees at check out. (I had to have an excuse for all the snacks I was buying! ) The manager (I think he was the manager and his name was Will I believe, very nice guy!) overheard and gave me this gorgeous bouquet of flowers!!! He said, "with everything going on in the world, it's so nice to hear good news. Congratulations from us!" I got teary eyed because of my hormones. It made my week!! DON'T SHOP HERE; THE EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE AND MEAN. After waiting several minutes while an employee chatted with her friend in the refrigerated dairy section, I finally asked the crew member to "please excuse me" so I could reach the goat cheese. She could have taken half a step to her right so I could reach the cheese; instead, she was very rude and told me to wait. I felt her response was horribly inappropriate for anyone working in a service industry and went to tell the manager. He did not apologize for his employee's mean treatment of a customer, did not reply to my comments or acknowledge me in any way. Instead, he turned his back to me and went back to laughing with 2 other employees. Seriously? I work too hard for my money to be treated like crap by service workers with "screw you" attitudes. I will NEVER shop in this Trader Joe's again. Bought 2 ribeyes opened them up when I got home and the smell was horrible took them back got another and was offered a refund and the completely same thing happened so I told my wife forget about the steaks and creating a situation just grab some burger patties annnd again the meat here is so bad I would say extremely unhealthy please don't buy meat from Trader Joe's read more

The clerks are always friendly. They will send someone out to look for something even if the customer is already at the register. I have always liked their store brand products, it is as good as the other products they carry. I like that they carry non-dairy ice cream. read more

Hands down best Trader Joe's in San Diego. They have a way better selection than the mission valley location which includes fresh made ready to go sandwiches, salads and wraps which range from about $2.99 to $5.99. Their chicken cilantro wontons are to die for and not only are they 3.99 they are 50 calories for 5 pieces. I like to dunk it in their chili sauce that only cost $1.49 and top with fresh cilantro! So good! Their fresh flower selection has unbeatable prices, roses $7.99 for a dozen and they usually have the antique style as well. Of course I also love peonie season. They also take ebt if you have that type of thing. read more

Like almost every Trader Joe's on this planet parking tests your will to survive and your drive to thrive. I'm not sure what it is about TJ's but I'm starting to think that they purposely look for the worst parking lots to set up shop in. That said once you're able to muscle in a spot the rest is a breeze. While on the smaller side and crowded the lines move super fast. I have never had to wait long, so stopping by for a lunch and cheap wine for later isn't a huge chore. I have noticed that this location often doesn't have all the items that other locations have. I searched far and wide for eggnog yogurt and alas, none. At my local TJ's they have a mountain of it! Overall this is a solid location with enough in it to make sure you don't go hungry, and the staff work super hard to get you on your way! read more

Overall a decent place. Parking sucks sometimes, which is ok. What I dislike is that sometimes I purchase stacks of yogurts that have been sitting out for a long time. On several occasions, I've opened one right after leaving the store and yep, bad. It's not a dealbreaker for me, since some of their stuff is good, but just be sure to save your receipts. People here are mostly very nice. Not everyone, but a solid 8/10 are great. read more

Fearful Trader Joe's mistreat us as customers. I was looking for a particular wine from Spain. I found it. But IT had the religious word "Kosher" Wow... Since when does Trader Joe's promote or accommodate religion on the products they sell to us. I so hate writing poor reviews but in this case I'm sad to report it's deserved. Here's why. We live in Glendale, CA but found ourselves in the SD area specifically staying in La Mesa. My sister and I are regular TJ's shoppers and we love our experiences there almost without exception. Our experience at the La Mesa store was one of those exceptions. First, I was after smoked ghost Chile's in the grinder, something I'd forgotten on our trip but love. The guy at the front desk sort of vaguely said oh if you don't see it in the spice aisle we're out or don't carry it. First time ever I've had such a vague response at a TJ's. Second, and again we regularly shop TJ's all over LA. My sister was headed down the frozen food aisle at the La Mesa store when she was abruptly stopped. M'am, m'am there's a line. Wth? Just his tone was off putting and not the TJ's experience we are accustomed to. Not sure why we had a bad feeling here as our overall La Mesa/SD experience was great, TJ's not so much. read more

During quarantine times the lines cn get long to go into the store, but happy to say the line moves quickly. I only came for a fresh Christmas wreath because I knew Trader Joe's would be the best place for a decently priced fresh wreath. I was not wrong! As usual I always come out buying things I don't need, but intrigued to try out. I bought the chocolate peppermint ice cream bon bons and oat milk latte. I'm really appreciative that Trader Joe's finds a way to make dairy free desserts and drinks. This is the reason why I am such a fan and customer of Trader Joe's. I'm a little biased because I really do love all Trader Joe locations, but this one has earned 5 stars because they are always well-stocked (SPECULOOS) and the staff here are always friendly and kind (even if you left your reusable bag at home, oops). The cashiers always seem happy and upbeat, which makes shopping here a nice experience.Their fresh flowers and assorted plants are always a better deal than what you can find at a larger, big box-type of grocery store. They have affordable orchids and fresh flowers for that special someone :) This is also a child-friendly store, as I've seen those mini shopping carts here, which is so adorable! (insert a slew of Awwwws here) Whenever I'm here, there are always a few favorites I must buy (yes, MUST): SPECULOOS, Nutella, Orangina, Soy ice cream, Kriek/peche lambic belgian beer (be forewarned: it is so incredibly sweet that it tastes like soda, no joke...which means you better be careful and remember that it is not! also, no drinking & driving, kids!), & their delicious Naan! Did I mention they sell the most delicious sandwich/pretzel/anything spread here? It's called SPECULOOS and it's the infamous diet-ruiner also known as: COOKIE BUTTER. If you're hooked on Nutella, this is definitely a must-try!!! Stopped here to grab some food for dinner. This store doesn't appear to be as big as the one in Mission Valley, but it still appears to be stocked with all the Trader Joe's goodies that you've come to love. Just like the Mission Valley location, parking can be difficult to find at this location as well. During those times, I can usually find parking off to the side or back of the store. Surprisingly the parking lot was not very crowded tonight (Saturday around 5pm) and I was able to find parking immediately. They have a nice variety at the grab and go section of the store: salads, wraps, sandwiches, sushi, and entrees you can't heat up. I ended up picking up some (chocolate + almond + cashew) trail mix, a turkey wrap (with spinach and swiss cheese), some fruit, and a few other items. The employees at this location are just as friendly as other locations I've gone to. I was greeted and asked if I needed help finding anything several times while shopping. Some reasons I'm a fan of Trader Joe's: 1) the stores are clean and well stocked, 2) produce is always fresh, high quality, and priced very fairly, 3) employees are friendly and provide good customer service, 4) they have great goods and products, and 5) they wear cool Hawaiian shirts. I'd buy stock in this company if it was publicly traded. read more

This is probably one of the worst Trader Joe's locations I've been to. The people working the sample counter are not friendly and look like they're having a horrible time there, and the cashiers are also less friendly than the other locations. Also their credit card machines don't always work so you have to run the card a few times before it actually works. That said, the produce here is pretty good quality so I still like to come here for my berries. But I'm wary of the food in sealed bags, because I saw WORMS!!! in their bags of rice!!! It was horrifying! I get really creeped out by little creepy crawlies so thank goodness I saw the worms before buying the rice! However, I look very carefully at food I buy and the worms would have been very easy to miss if you didn't look closely. They blend in with the rice. So yeah, that is my experience here. Not the best Trader Joe's location and I only come here if I'm crunched for time, otherwise I'll go to the one in Scripps Ranch. It's a bit farther away, but a much more pleasant experience! read more

I LOVE this Trader Joes, the workers are amazing, they always have pretty much anything I need off of my grocery list and stay well stocked. Today specifically was an amazing day there, I was shopping with my baby boy and when I was loading the car I put my purse in with my groceries on accident and shut the trunk. When I came back from taking the cart up I realized I hadn't unlocked the car and everything including my keys and phone were locked in. My son and I went into trader joes for help and Sam & Rene helped me immediately. Sam called AAA and waited with us until they showed up. It seriously turned an embarrassing and crappy situation into one I didn't even mind because they were so kind to me and helped us out. Thank you Sam!!! I will be open and say that I am not a huge TJ's fan... I much prefer to shop at Sprout's but TJ's does have some good snacks that I enjoy and every now and then I will get a few other things while I am here. On this trip I needed some basil for pesto and I was closer to here than Sprout's so I stopped. I was going to also grab some snacks, dinner for the night, and some produce. I was shocked when I got there and was in the produce section and saw how small the selection was. They did not have the basil in stock that I needed and they only had a couple of different apples and none of them were my preference. I got a head of lettuce but it was small and not very hard so it didn't last very long. I got chicken sausage for dinner and it was too bad, nothing special to make me want to go back there for more. I also found the few snacks that I really love and headed to the register. There was a very short line at all of the registers so I didn't wait too long to check out. I always think their system for checking out is a bit odd. It seems like it would be very difficult to check out with an entire cart full of items since they don't have much of a register area. I didn't need any more than a basket and I brought my own bag so it was quick and easy to check out. The prices were okay too, what would be expected for TJ's. Overall, everything was just eh. I wasn't impressed but I didn't hate it. I would still go if I didn't feel like I had a choice or if I really wanted the snacks I like form there. read more

Today I got to the checkout and then realized I forgot my wallet. Crap. The checker was so kind and gave me several options, one of which was putting my whole cart (which was full) in the fridge while I ran home to get my wallet. Perfect. When I came back, I went to the customer service desk right up front and told them what happened. They told me to go ahead and get in a check out line and someone would bring me my cart. A minute later, I'm reunited with all my groceries which have already been bagged and rung up! So a minute after that when I check out, all I have to do is pay and I'm out the door. It was so nice! Such good service! Truly turned around a very annoying situation and made me very grateful for the thoughtful care. Love this TJ's! read more

Bigger than some of the Trader Joe's I've been into in my life. Staff is all friendly and helpful. If they are out of something, someone will happily go into the back to check and see if it's discontinued or out of stock and if out of stock when it will be back. I also only will shop before noon because if I go later in the day a lot of the stuff I regularly buy is sold out. Only negative id give is a lot of their fruit is just not very tasty. Like berries, mangos, citrus. For those things I'd prefer to shop at Sprouts although at sprouts they do cost more. read more

Giant hot dogs and Giant Wisconsin bear claw! Omg it's Kringle season! Kringle season! Wisconsin Kringle, bear claw of delight, one must understand the majesty and deliciousness of this cookie-slab (cake pan) sized bear claw available each holiday season direct from Wisconsin to SoCal Trader Joe's. They are always still cold when set out for display and don't take long to toast up once the family is ready to dig in. When set out in the bakery section, before the cash register, the Kringles look like file folders or pagoda towers! The Racine, Wisconsin based Danish Bakery mails them year round as well, but for me, well, I delight in them most when it's the season and there is chill in the air. Pics included. The hotdogs at Trader Joe's are a regular item, called Fearless Franks and worth a mention for their "serious frankness" with immense flavor these are not your average beef franks in quantity or quality, as is expected with TJs! They are a plump hit at the BBQ or sliced and mixed with Annie's organic mac & cheese (my favored brand). Happy munching. read more

The customer service & attitude of this Trader Joe's staff at this store in La Mesa is horrible. I had 3 cashiers decided at 6:30 to close their registers while they were still packing another customers bags. There is no light or sign to say they're closed. The one cashier said "It's not that confusing ma'am". Then another cashier was at the register but was just laughing and carrying on. I went up to a Trader member and they ignored my statement that I can't find anyone that is open. She walked away. Then I had someone nice enough to ring me up after she saw how frustrated I was. Usually they're wanting to ring you up and come to you. When I told the manager, he said you can go to any register. Huh! I had to explain. I also had a person working the carts. She had 1 cart and cut me off. I just said excuse me - nicely and she went off as she walked away from me and into the store. I was carrying a very heavy Traders Reusable bag and it was getting to me. I have a bad knee and it was starting to hurt. I went thru other workers at Traders yelling at me, when I didn't need any water during the pandemic when I stood in line, and other poor treatment at Grossmont Traders. I bet you thought TJ's was a terrific store in which to buy cool eats, drinks & life wares. You'd be wrong. It's a whole lot more than all of this. Today, the SD TJ's location across from the Grossmont Mall became a place of health & safety for me. Keith went far above & beyond the role of 'the guy who stood behind the register'. Keith gave up appx. 30 min. of his valuable time to watch over me when my health was a . . . .challenge during my check out. Companies all over the world should take 'How to find the best possible people to call team members' advice from Trader Joe's. Keith, you ROCK. Trader Joe's, you ROLL. Without my medical details (see HIPPA) exposed, Trader Joe's & Keith were not going to take a chance on anything bad happening to me while I was in their store or while I drove home. Keith was outside w me in the heat after he bagged my items & brought me an Alkaline H20 staying w me while I sat inside the store to be sure I wasn't getting . . . worse. Keith made sure I was O.K. to drive home & that the other drivers around me were going to stay safe too. Let's face it, accidents happen if one is driving & a medical concern occurs. behind the wheel. Ask the highway patrol. Not today. Not on Keith's watch.
