Shame on Menlo Park, Trader Joe's for having such an ugly hearted, mean spirited team member or unbelievably evening supervisor, Diana/Dianna. Good help is apparently getting harder to find. This huge ordeal resulting over a $5.00 plant was unnecessary which is why I did not argue with this foolish unprofessional lassie, I gave her a pass and presented it in the most appropriate forum I know Yelp. See below. Diana is untruthful, rude with a bad attitude and she has quite the mouth on her. Please curtail her before her behavior and actions lands Trader Joe in trouble on a larger scale I purchased items including a jade plant on 01/13/22 that was left inside the basket instead of being placed in the bag like the other items. I called the store and spoke with apparently Diana who first denied having seen the plant then admitted it was there with a hat after my probing further. I asked her to (uncover the plant from the green produce plastic bag) and that I would come for it but not today. Next day, I came to get my plant Diana presented to me with an attitude from hell stating that she put it back because I did not come when I said I would that night which was a blantant lie. Diana further attempted to argue to with me about who beared fault of my leaving without my plant. After refuting her claims, I walked outside to find the the particular plant to no avail, I found another one passed by Diana and went to the first check stand to pay for additional items. As the cashier and I were small talking, Diana interrupted our conversation by yelling "is everything alright over there" to the casher who was baffled as to what was transpiring. Why wouldn't everything be alright? I do not appreciate being lied on, wrongly chastised and harassed at the desk and then at the cashier area by Diana who is surprisingly a supervisor who apparently has a habit of speaking and behaving in this beligerent matter to particular customers but I will not have it. I don't argue with fools. Diana who, in my opinion, appears and behaves much like an drug addict or mentally distressed person waiting to blow on a customer (and it would not be a first at this store). You are on notice Menlo Park Trader Joe's! I brought items, requested a bag so all items should have been placed in the bag. Also, purchased items should not have been returned to stock in less than 24 hours before being claimed. I should not have been subjected to the hostility, arguing and harassment at my retuning for my item from your angry, poor excuse for a first point of contact, supervisor at Trader Joe's. I come here after work all of the time. All of the employees are so helpful! I was there about a week ago when the blueberries were on special and some lady accidentally dropped them. A young man quickly came to help with a broom, saying it was no problem at all and that mistakes happen. Overall, I would like to say my experience here every time is a 5! And the fact that they are a short walk from the Caltrain is a plus! read more

I don't know why I'm here 3 times a week. I buy like 5 items each time and then come back for things I "forgot" the next day. I think they recognize me by now because I just wander the aisles aimlessly. The employees at this location are always really helpful especially in the wine section and are quick to give suggestions. They also seriously have the best deals for flowers. I pined after the ranunculus for DAYS until I finally gave in. I don't know how they can afford to sell the flowers at such low prices though it's probably because the selection isn't stable. But who can turn down $1.29 daffodils or $3.99 sunflowers?! Staff at this Trader Joe's has always been super friendly and helpful. Whether I'm wandering around looking for the right dinner choice, or genuinely can't find something I'm looking for, they always seem to know and are eager to assist. One thing I've noticed about this one, and which is a little disappointing, is they often seem to be out of a lot of stuff on Sunday nights. I live in Redwood City where pretty much all of our discount grocery/home goods stores have been shut down because of increasing real estate development. I can't afford to shop daily at Draeger's or Whole Foods. So I come here now. Don't get me wrong, I love imported novelty cheeses, wines, organic foods etc., but only once in a while. If you're tryinta feed a family on a budget then TJ's is the best place for awesome organic food value! And for those vegan and gluten free creatures. I can buy a full dinner and a bottle of wine here for $20-$30 and still have $ to splurge on other things. Most importantly, the hard workin folks here are super friendly and helpful! I totally love Trader Joe's so this is, I admit, the third Trader Joe's that I've reviewed. I slightly prefer the other two (North Beach, SF and Santa Barbara) because this one is often a bit cramped and busy but it's still part of the wonderful Trader Joe's family! I absolutely love that Trader Joe's always offers samples. I usually have a baby cup or two of the coffee with soy milk plus the sample of the day. In all of my shopping, I don't think I've ever had the same sample twice. That is impressive! They really mix it up and feature new and yummy items. Some of my favorite Trader Joe's items are: nonfat greek yogurt, fiber muffins, fresh boxed salads (love the tuna nicoise, reduced fat chinese chicken, and southwest!), cilantro chicken pizza, and microwavable edaname. There is a big parking lot right out front which can get surprisingly packed. It's totally worth it for Trader Joe's amazingness though! read more

It seems silly to write a review of Trader Joe's, everyone loves them! But it seems silly to not acknowledge how great they are. This Saturday I spent some time perusing the bagged romaine lettuce. For some reason they didn't look great, but I thought I picked one that looked OK. I did the rest of my shopping and went to check out. The clerk looked at my bag of lettuce, and to him, it didn't pass muster. He went over to the lettuce section, and after awhile he came back with 5 bags of lettuce and showed me (and the lady in line after me) that none of these were OK, the lettuce had frozen on the truck, and I shouldn't buy it. And he refunded me the cost of the lettuce right there. I deeply appreciate not being sent home with slimy lettuce. And they give great food recommendations, sometimes they somewhat oddly sing while giving out samples, but are generally great. Also, two things make me shop here despite the parking insanity: there are no nitrates, MSG, or artificial food coloring in anything they sell (and those are migraine triggers for me). So I can shop here worry free. That's an amazing gift of time and peace of mind. Also, and it took me a while to notice this, the shelves are a shorter height. As a short lady, I NEVER have to ask some random taller shopper to help me reach something on the top shelf, like I'm five years old. Downsides: they add cellulose to their shredded parmesan to prevent it from clumping (Joe, say it ain't so!) and their Just Chicken has a lot of added stuff, it's not "Just Chicken". I swear, if they had rotisserie chicken and ziploc bags here I might never go anywhere else. read more

BEWARE EXPIRED PRODUCE !!!!! My nearest Trader where I go for couple of years sold me an old product ( expiration date at 5/30/2019 and purchase last week of July 2019) which I got sick from and had stomach ache and other issues. When noticed the date on the bottle we came to customer service and addressed to crew manager that the product is old as well as it's impacted my health, all he said : "you are going to be fine ! Great Trader Joe's with fantastic flowers and potted plans, that was super useful when I could not find the type of plant I was looking for at the farmers market on Sunday. This shop is close by so saved my 'need to buy a last minute gift'. The cashier was very welcoming and smiley. It was my first time shopping at this store and only for the nice prices of the flower section and the cool personality of this cashier I will make sure I visit for some shopping the next time I am in Menlo Park. read more

I've been going Trader Joe's for the last 8 years and that's where I do most of my grocery shopping and I love it, we recently moved and this Trader Joe's now is the closest to us, and their stuff is not fresh. It happens 3 times so far that the almond milk I bought went bad in just 3 days even though the expiration date says it's good till next month. This can't be a coincidence, it must've be how they store their food or something. I never had this experience at any of their other branches. Their Lettuce and vegetables aren't fresh either, last time I wanted to buy onions all the onions had mold on it and I'm surprise that they were left there for sale. I'm so sad cause I don't like Safeway so my only other option is Whole Foods. Hope they do something about this problem read more

I normally go to the TJ's at Town and Country Village in Palo Alto and today was my first time at this one. As compared to that TJ's the pros & cons here are: Pros: --More spread out, spacious, wider aisles --Seemed to be a better selection here (although I may just be imagining that due to the bigger space) --Food, especially in the frozen food aisles, seemed better displayed & better organized --Parking is easier (not easy, but better than T&C) Cons: --Can't combine with other errands as easily --Check out lines seemed longer, but that could just be the time of day (although we were there fairly early on a Saturday, usually afternoons are busier) --Horrible Menlo Park soccer moms - the T&C one seems to attract more of a student/young professional crowd. read more

I dig Trader Joe's. It's a lot cheaper than Draeger's (around the corner), and while it doesn't offer the same variety of items, what it does offer is not bad at all. Good wine, great snacks and all the standard issue grocery store stuff you'd expect. One complaint, though: while they have beer here they don't have cold beer here. So any brew you pick up has to sit in the fridge once you get home prior to consumption. :( read more

I just came back from a needed trip to get eggs and butter at Trader Joe's in Menlo Park. What should have been a quick stop turned into a nightmare stop. The parking lot was full when I pulled in. I maneuvered around a parked car, to a spot where a car was leaving. A woman began honking loudly behind me so I figured the woman was waiting for that spot. So, I left. I pulled out into the street, saw a car leaving in front of the store on the street so I parked in front of the store. My daughter stayed in the car. I ran in. Near the bread display a woman stopped me to tell me I took her spot in the parking lot. It didn't stop there, she proceeded to follow me telling me I took her spot in the parking lot which I didn't as I parked on the street. I approached the manager's desk area and the manager was very helpful. He told me Trader Joe's did not condone the harassment by customers of other customers. Satisfied in that fair policy, I left to finish my shopping. I was looking for an item, my "fight or flight" response on overdrive. What a price to pay for butter and eggs... The manager approached me and asked me to point out the woman. We found her loading her cart in the wine aisle. The manager began speaking to her about the incident and their policy. I took my purchase to the express checkout nearby. I could hear her say I took her spot. I made the mistake of defending myself. In hindsight, the future I would allow the manager to handle it. As a person of color, I was somewhat humiliated, especially in a community like Menlo Park where diversity is nonexistent, I stood out. It was easy for her to find me in the store, follow and harass me. will not shop here again. read more

I have a choice of grocery stores between Palo Alto and Redwood City. This one's the best. I've been using it for the past year. I don't have any great revelations about this TJs or notable experiences. I just get consistently great service, short lines, and low prices here. It seems well-managed. I love Trader Joes! I try to stop at one of them depending on what I need to purchase or what I feel like eating that day or night. For what? I have to take a "sneak" peek what is coming out-oohhh, pumpkins? Ohhhh....new salads...new soups? Hummus? It's not like I don't know, right? So, when someone asks me to stop by Trader Joes for them, I was thinking alright..Where is there Trader Joes near Stanford Shopping Center? Turned to my handy GPS, and it led me to this location. Aisle of pumpkins and potted flower plants were ready to go and lined up all the way to the entrance. The mental checklist in my head, I picked up the basket and headed to the aisles. Big fan of this Trader Joe's. This store is well organized and it among the best in the "bring your own bag" program. I love to walk there with my granny cart (and my "green" reusable bags). I get: - reduced fat southwest salads in the prepared section - Alsatian pizza (version of tarte flambee) in the freezer section - asparagus risotto in the freezer section (great for a late, easy dinner; top with shrimp or chicken if you want more protein). - a variety of sparking water (which I drink a lot!) -wine -whole wheat couscous -Mozzarella (way cheaper here then anywhere else) - Basil plants -Fage yogurt You can't do all your shopping here, but it is a great place to get specific items. read more

My husband noticed it first, Leave Safeway with 2 wimpy bags of groceries $60 Leave TJ's with 3 bursting bags of groceries $60 So since I have started paying attention: Organic Milk, Organic Eggs (the regular kind too,) cheese, spices, flour, sugar, bread, frozen chicken, frozen shrimp, even frozen pizza all priced less then Safeway. Milk is usually about $1.50 per gallon less.... One problem is that they don't have everything but with the prices and economy, we shop at TJ's and fill in the gap elsewhere. I personally like my produce pre-packaged, the fewer hands feeling up my mushrooms the better. I especially like all of their Hummus, fresh, no potassium sorbate (a preservative that makes things taste carbonated), the Margarita Pizza, yummy. The parking at this, well come to think it, at all the TJ's I have been to, pretty much sucks, this one is perhaps the worst as you have to exit onto the street to get to the next isle.... but to save $30 to $40 buckeroos it is worth it. read more

Love Trader Joe's. They are, have been and will continue to be my grocery store. I am a faithful customer at all of them on the peninsula, in Oakland, Santa Cruz and Las Vegas. I have never had a problem with staff. They are always friendly and very helpful. Just tonight, I reached a smart *ss manager, named Joe. I called asking for the Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe's. If you are a customer you know that these are priceless and they are only on the shelf for 3 weeks max during this time of year. My Palo Alto store is out and suggested I call MP. When Joe answered the phone, I ask Joe if he had any, he said yes. I asked if he had a few...maybe a dumb question, but I'm just a customer. That's all, a customer. Joe asked how many cases I needed, 5 or 6? Maybe it's just me, but I thought his question and tone of voice (definitely sarcastic) were rude. He was short, welcoming AND sarcastic!!!!! So, after hanging up. I called back to tell Joe about our interaction. He's a smart mouth who finally apologized. Joe did not leave me with a good experience from having contacted Trader Joe's today. AND HE'S A MANAGER???? I know exactly who Joe is because of his accent and I won't hesitate to let the regional manager know just how rude Joe was. I'm glad to know Joe's actions is not a representation of all the other TJ's I make my purchases from. I do appreciate that he finally apologized. read more

TJ's is my go to shopping stop no matter what city! The serving sizes are perfect for a family of 3 and of course delicious! The Menlo Park TJ's staff is most helpful and seriously just wonderful! The only thing I have to complain about this location is how often they have an employee turnover. -sad face- the upside is they do hire friendly people. The facility is clean and well organized, but I believe that is a normality across all TJ's anyhow. I am a huge fan of Trader's Joe due to the tons of varieties stacked in shelves and every location I've been to never ceases to surprise my imagination of what vegetarian varieties can a store carry. They have plethora of veggie burger varieties in a decent size and price. This location is slightly bigger and better than mountain view location. They had a pumpkin squash soup to try and it tasted excellent. I am not a huge fan of pumpkin but I got some to go. I really like how they come up with innovative ways to introduce people to different palatable recipes from a known base. Parking is small but try to go around off peak hours to beat the rush. They have flowers displayed outside the store and they have a huge collection. Raviolis, Cheeses, Pasta Sauces, Frozen fruits you need it they got it. Insanely fresh produce and best bang for your buck. read more

I think the best thing about this Trader Joe's is how big the store is on the inside. The layout of the store is great. Even when it's busy, you'll have no problem ducking in and out of aisles to get your goods and get out in a timely fashion. Unlike other Trader Joe's locations, when it's packed in here, you can still maneuver your way though the store. This store has the usual selection of food, and the layout is pretty good. After one or two visits, you should have your bearings enough to get in and out of the store in a flash. The people here are always friendly and helpful when you can't quite find what you're looking for. I've found that one of the best times to shop at this store is Thursday evening. So if you really want to take your time to browse or get acquainted with the store, Thursday is the day to shop. read more

This location is my weekly office fruit supplier. They almost always have a great selection of your traditional fruits like bananas, apples, oranges, and seasonal selections. They also bring in fun stuff too that people in the office haven't had like lychee's. It is always great showing people new things! Keep up the good work TJ's! This is a great Trader Joe's -- I first used the Cambridge, MA store when I was going to school there, and thought they were a MA-local chain! When I eventually moved to California I was happy to see TJ's all over. Trader Joe's is a bunch of moderately private label products (== high margin) with good quality and a slightly offbeat theme. They also distribute some specialty brands which are otherwise hard to find at a place like Safeway. This store is excellent, although parking is fairly limited (I think a lot of people park in the lot to go to other stores, as the store itself is never as crowded as the lot). Staff are friendly and helpful, and I've never seen the store be out of stock for anything. 9am to 9pm hours are convenient (although somehow I always make it right after it closes, if I don't check the time first...midnight would be better!) read more

His patient and loving girlfriend went to Trader Joe's to see if she could find something similar. Girlfriend: Do you have anything like Saltines? TJ's Employee: We have a lot of crackers, let me show you. GF: They need to be really boring, not full of tasty grains or something. TJ: Here, try these. They are pretty boring. (opens box of crackers and gives to GF). GF: Hmmm... these are pretty boring, but they are round. I think they have to be square. TJ: What about these? They are square (opens second box). GF: No, they have too much flavor. They won't work for someone who is sick. Thank you for trying though. TJ: Of course! (GF leaves and goes to further away grocery store to get Saltines) The boy ended up getting his Saltines and feeling better. Love TJ's, but this location (or maybe all?) doesn't have my favorite rosemary pecans! Super hard to find things here, for example, boxes of crackers were above the freezer items. Store is huge, but feel things are a bit displaced. The workers are friendly, but not as friendly as I'd find at other TJ's, and the cashiers take forever. read more

Easy to park (but I can see how it could get out of control) and seemed like roomier aisles to navigate down. Just had to look out for the cute little French boy who was playing hide and seek with his dad. Bought some meat for grillin' and some schnacks for schnackin', I am intrigued by the freeze dried pineapple I got. Love the frozen pastas in a bag they've got, perfect for when I'm hungry AND lazy (which is most of the time). So affordable, got a bunch of stuff for $40! I don't think I can do my regular hard core grocery shopping here but for everything else, it'll do great. The free sample when I went was juice, that's not very fun. read more

My favorite grocery store. It's in a convenient location in downtown MP and has ample parking though it can get a bit busy. The selection is great and the food is reasonably priced. I love their organic fruit and veggie selection too and it's very affordable when compared to Whole Foods!! All the employees are extremely friendly and they have a great food return policy. I love to bake and am always here shopping for more baking necessities! My 5 favorite TJ snacks: -Almondia Cookies... I am basically addicted to these. The right combination of dried fruit, nuts, and crunchiness. I could go through a couple packs of these a day. -gluten free Chocolate chip cookies... I'm not even gluten free but these are wonderful if you love crunchy chocolate chip cookies -Frozen Pad See Ew... not in the mood to cook but craving thai? Throw this on the stove and dinner will be ready in ~10minutes. -Greek Honey Yogurt... simply the best. healthy and affordable and it tastes great with berries! I like to save and re-use the containers too. -Speculoos Cookie Butter ... try to resist eating the entire jar... I used this in some crepes instead of Nutella and they were a huge hit read more

A friend of mine thinks of Trader Joe's as a glorified 7-Eleven. She thinks of the food there as nothing more than glorified snacks. Aisles and aisles of snacks. Fine by me! Hmmm, well I love TJ's and have been shopping with them since '98 in L.A., my experience with this T.J's is making me shop at Safeway & Robert's Market more despite the price increase. For some reason I can not seem to score fresh anything here. The produce is awful and the meats & fresh mozzarella are always about average 3 days away from expiring and often 1 or the same day. I have tried every day of the week and asked when they receive fresh food and none of it seems to matter. I still shop here for Quinoa, bread, pasta, and other dry foods but am slowly migrating to Costco a little more for meats which is believe it or not actually decent. Someone else mentioned that in the morning you get the mad rush of slow, elderly folk and after work rush around 5-7. This is VERY true. You can also get the after school crowd (moms w/kids) around 3-4ish and that can be just as unnerving as old people blocking your way in the aisles but the staff is great, though the parking sucks. read more

I agree wtih the other reviewers that, as a specialty grocery store, this isn't one-stop shopping, but it's the best value for specialty items & the best place to go for hosting a wine and cheese party (or actually any party).
