Really good store for the curious individual Like to take adventures in dining buy here, not necessarily a value bargain hunting place I've been to a couple different locations and their model seems to be small, custom, a lot of variety I come and always find something new they are trying out. Trader Joe's is the best. This location is hardly ever crowded. In my hometown of Colorado Springs our TJ is always mobbed. Liquor store is in the store so there's no need to check out twice. read more

I love this place! I'm so sad there's only one in San Antonio and it's far from where we live. :( Pros - they have SO much pumpkin flavored goodies in time for the fall season - super organized and easy/fun to walk around - reasonable prices - they offer items that you can't find in an HEB - efficient and fast checkout system - they also sell pumpkins and plants right outside - they have a variety of premade meals, fruits and veggies, and an extensive frozen food section - coming here got me so excited for the fall season! I love Trader Joe's, all the different varieties of things that I don't find everywhere else for samples. I actually had the purple sweet potato ice cream, and it was the best. I love the fresh flowers. Fruits and vegetables are always fresh. The customer service is great every time. read more

Always love to come here. Very nice place, organized, clean, well kept, reasonable price and on top of that very warm and welcoming staff. Wish they would put up another one around the La Cantera/UTSA area so we could come more frequently. It's inconvenient to go and then when we go we would have to line-up and stay looong standing in the queue. Now if only we could get an In & Out Burger here (instead of Dallas - wth is THAT all about???!??) then I'd be a happy Californian-turned-naturalized-Texan. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and this could explain the obsession with this store among California transplants. The store may be more about reliving happy memories than meeting dietary requirements. For me this place is OK but not over the top amazing to make me a regular shopper. The parking is atrocious and I'm not a fan of how backed up the traffic can get heading west on Basse. I also don't like that the aisles are not labeled with what it contains, like other grocery stores have. And the place is very small. Now the employees are very friendly and helpful, checkout moves quickly. They offer a lot of their own branded product (a lot of frozen prepared items). Some of the prices are great and some are not, but every grocery store is like that. The produce is nice and the selection is good. read more

Trader Joe's is still as great as ever. I came into the store just to get a couple bottles of their Thai Red Curry Sauce. Now do you think I could really walk out with only that? Show of hands. Anybody? You are correct! Ha! Although I didn't do as bad as I could have. It probably helped that I did not grab a shopping cart (smart), but did get a hand basket. Amazing what you can put in one of those. Of course they always have a coffee sample made and I always take advantage of this. The back right area has something to eat and/or drink. Today it was one of their ramen products. Really good, since it had been a long time since I had had ramen. Going down the aisles I did manage to put some champagne grapes (first time trying), some other bottles items (including a Moscato) and a few frozen items, of which they have a good selection of seemingly unique items. The cashier was very friendly, as they always are. I give Trader Joe's a lot of credit for choosing the right people. Good products and good people mean good reasons to return. read more

Welcome to San Antonio, Trader Joe's! This place is incredible! They've got all kinds of great foods, pre-made and ingredients. My favorite stuff to get there is their dipping sauces, wasabi peas, beer and wine! Their beer and wine selections are limited, but priced right! They have their own label of beer and wine, which is incredibly cheap! Try the Two Buck Chuck! The staff is quite enthusiastic, and friendly. Came to Trader Joe's to check out their wine selections . Trader Joe's has a great collection of wines and their own brand of wine as well. Left with 8 bottles and brioche bread to make some French toast for breakfast this weekend. The staff here is very nice but I have to give a special thanks and shout out to BRENDA!!! Brenda is the sweetest cashier I have ever met! Thanks for the flowers Brenda!!! Thank again Brenda for making our trip to Trader Joe's special! This location is beautiful. I like to stop at this TJ after Pokémon hunting in this area The flowers that greeted me at the door were so beautiful. I went in around 11 am and the store was clean, stocked and the products were front facing so beautifully. I wasn't greeted as I came in or asked if I needed any help after being there for about half an hour. Minor things, but those are my reasons for giving 4 stars instead of 5. So glad to have this in town! They're absolutely the best place to shop for flowers and wine. They have bouquets for as low as $2.99! If you're like me I like to make my own arrangements and this is hands down the best place to go price wise. They're wine selection is also very good being that they're a smaller grocery store and they have a wide variety to choose from starting at, wait for it...$1.99!!! You're not gonna find that anywhere else. The store is always clean. The staff is very helpful and they have unique finds you won't get elsewhere. Tip - if there's something in the store you want to trying ask an associate to open it for you. You can try it before you purchase it! You can also bring things back if you get it home and decide you don't like it. A lot of grocery stores don't do that. read more

During this coronavirus season, I have had such difficulty finding dairy products, mainly eggs and milk. Lo and behold, after weeks of searching, I found them at Trader Joe's. Why didn't I come here earlier? TJ's so respectfully developed a system quickly in the midst of the quarantine-induced panic. Customers are let in one by one, and there are markers on the floor to facilitate social distancing. And the products in high demand are restricted to a limit of 2 per customer. Because of this fair system, I am able to find my eggs and milk. Not to mention, there are employees handing you a sanitizer wipe before you walk in the store. Talk about following health guidelines down to the tea! For a business to follow guidelines makes me feel safe and cared for as a customer. I have since avoided other grocery stores to avoid the crowds and panic. I know I can trust TJ's with my life. I love TJ's. They need to open up more locations in this city. read more

Really impressed with how this TJ's handled all of the craziness with the coronavirus! They had an organized line outside the store and would only let a certain number of people enter at a time. I saw them sanitizing each cart. They also had tons of items in stock that other grocery stores were sold out of recently! I got to buy pasta, frozen veggies, ground turkey, and other grocery items that I was unable to get at my other trips to different stores. The workers were all friendly and it felt a lot less chaotic in this store. And the Easter jelly beans are delicious! read more

By the size of this building, you would not expect to find the jewels that are hidden in the TJs aisles. Every time I enter the door, I find something new. They offer a cooking station where they pair different items together to show different aspects of their greatness. One super cool thing they do is offer to open up products if you are interested in trying. Do not expect to go two times in a row and find the exact same things, as some items are limited. Prices are great, freshness is on par, and you will be happy you have been :) read more

The parking lot is the only reason for 4 stars. It can be okay and other days it is atrocious. Absolutely horrible. Then there is no parking. People struggling to find a space just to get groceries. Really? Besides that, the staff here are super upbeat and friendly. Always a pleasure to see. Customer service here is A+++. The groceries here are fresh and love the sample area to try products first. They come up with some good ideas here. The beauty wash, vitamins and pet stuff are all quality products. Wine is super affordable and delicious and a decent stock of some variety beers. The bathrooms are gender neutral, spacious and private. Love this store and the peeps. First and foremost parking is the worst. Maybe I'm spoiled by the fancier HEBs in town, but I just don't really see the point of travelling to Trader Joe's unless it's for the seasonal pickle-flavored popcorn, their cookie butter, or their selection of Spanish wine. Don't get me wrong, the staff is probably the absolute friendliest I've come across in any grocery store. But it's so gosh darn tiny, cramped, and with the influx of fancier HEBs and HEB pluses, small, specialty grocery stores like these are an absolute last resort for me these days. Located not too far from Whole foods there aren't too many other options in San Antonio for this type of grocery store but this location is clean, has wide isle ways, friendly service and unique selections. It's hard to go wrong. During peak times the parking lot is a little undersized so you may have to circle once to get a decent spot. If you love wine their value selection of wines is unmatched anywhere else. This alone is reason enough to get me to visit the location, I just love discovering a decent wine that costs less than $7-8 a bottle. We will be back. read more

I have been to both locations of Trader Joe's and I have to say the One in 1604 it's my favorite! I love Trader Joe's. I am a fan of their bread, tortillas, and the brioche is my favorite to make French toast. I also love the Everything Bagel seasoning! Who would have thought of putting that in a jar! The juices are so tasty and I like that they have the least amount of artificial ingredients only natural!lMy kids love the Watermelon Cucumber and pineapple juices. I like the limeade jalapeño, It has a kick and I use it for cocktails. They have a great selection of wines and craft beers! Their selection of cheese and meats is great! Most importantly, the prices are comparable if not sometimes cheaper than the others markets for quality items. I like the butter cookie ice cream, it's not overly sweet and the kids love it! Overall I love the idea of bringing your own bags for the groceries. This Trader Joe's is clean and have what I need. It's my favorite place to shop!! read more

I always come out of here happy to find everything I needed to feed my family plus a few extra new items to try. They always have fresh flowers, clean and fresh produce to choose from. I finally drank the koolaid. At first, it was just a few sips; now I chug the stuff. Things I love at TJ's: chocolate covered dried cherries fantastic nuts and trail mixes cheap and delicious frozen dinners - I turned my nose at frozen dinners for years and then I tasted what TJ is throwin down laundry detergent and hand soap and expanding sponges pre-cut veggies like butternut squash and riced cauliflower oil and balsamic selection fresh herbs so many fun snacks their reusable shopping bags If you're curious about something, ask for a taste! They don't spend a lot of money on marketing; instead they're happy to let the products speak for themselves: they'll open something up and let you decide for yourself. Staff always seems like they're having fun. Maybe it's that west-coast attitude transplants say they miss...? TJ's will never completely replace your [HEB], but there are things you'll find cheaper here - and crazy things they've dreamed up you won't find anywhere else. Go taste the koolaid... Everyone in this place was so full of joy and laughter, I started looking over my shoulders. And behind me was some guy buying a case of their $3 bottles of wine. He seemed particularly pleased. I'd never been to a Trader Joe's before, it was everything I heard it would be, and my first thought going up and down the aisles was, "This place is pretty cool." Most everything is the TJ house brand, every Yelper I know loves their stuff, and it all seemed reasonably priced as well. With one exception. The fresh produce here either comes with a special gift basket or I was completely misreading the labels: 79 cents for one orange? 29 cents for one banana? Really? Right offhand, I think I've seen the same organic produce a tad cheaper elsewhere. I could be wrong. But at 2:00 on a Monday afternoon, it wasn't crowded, there was lots of parking, and this Quarry Market complex seemed like a consumer's dream. It may be different on weekends. The bottom line is you'll either like this San Antonio TJ's or you won't, but it sure makes me curious what the Austin stores will be like. Guess we'll find out in 2014. read more

As a West Coast transplant, I love Trader Joe's. I've been shopping at different TJs all over California and Arizona for years. All their stores are small and don't look like your typical grocery store with labeled aisles and such. That has never been their goal. Trader Joe's started as a convenience store and wanted to maintain that feel, just on a slightly larger scale with more products. They pride themselves on providing customers with "innovative, hard-to-find, great-tasting foods" (according to their website). Think Whole Foods...but cheaper! :) So you can't do ALL of your grocery shopping here. I can't even think of a place where I actually do *all* of my grocery shopping. I have to hit up at least 3 stores just to make dinner. But anywhoo...you can pick up great snacks, well prepared foods, awesome California wines, lots of organic products, spices, pretty flowers and more here. All in all, I am happy to see Trader Joe's in San Antonio. This particular store never seems particularly busy to me. Maybe it's because I had gotten so used to the crowds at the TJs on the West Coast. So I'm a fan of this little store. A few months ago, Trader Joe's signed a lease for a location at 403 N. Loop 1604 W., inside the Sonterra Village shopping center between Blanco Road and Stone Oak Parkway. The Stone Oak store will be about 12,500 square feet compared to this 11,000 sq. ft. Quarry Village store. So for those who wanted a larger store with more parking, you are about to get your wish by the end of 2014. read more

Trader Joes is located in an odd location littered with bad parking and heavy traffic, get there early. The store is very small and I found myself back where I started in less than 10 minutes. Everyone brags about the fantastic energy here but I felt like employees that were distributing samples wished they were somewhere else. Also, the customers are nice but you're bound to run into someone every corner you turn, I would recommend walking with caution. All the drama aside, TJ's has a ton of cool items to offer like their herbal teas, cookie butter, and a plethora of organic options. On this occasion, we took home a nice baby spinach with blue cheese/candied pecans salad and it was AMAZING! It would help if their aisles were labeled because I went up and down every aisle about 2 times before locating what I needed. read more

The friendliest little TJ's I've been to in awhile. Very clean, nice service at the sample counter, and I don't know if it's a Texas thing, but I love that they have one line for every two registers - you get out much quicker than having to bob and weave, guessing who's going to take forever to figure out the new chip-scanning credit card machines. That it's cheap but it's not free That I'm not what I used to be And that love's not a game for three I was determined to make that trip to San Antonio worth it's weight in California Gold, so I set a course in the direction of Basse and Jones-Maltsberger this morning. (Line 1 with slight alteration, technically it was Wednesday). Now, normally, I'm not one to be swayed by the stroke of a hand across my forehead with the whispered magical unicorn words, "But it's from California...". Then again, I know a good thing when I see it. Some things were cheap, others not so much, but I picked and chose my way to a $52 order total that fit in two bags (three, if you count the handy wine tote for 99 cents). (Line 2, nothing over $7.99 on the bill, and that was a whole pecan pie). There were so many little things that caught my eye, that I ultimately had to turn some opportunities down. I'm not a cheapskate, but a tiny bottle of pancake syrup for $3 does not seem like a bargain. Then again, I went home with two pies, pfeffernuse cookies, stollen, chocolate chip cookies, butter cookies in a jar, apple cider, and, oh yeah, two absolutely gorgeous beefsteak tomatoes. Had I not been on a long roadtrip, I would have bought more (Line 3, I never would have bought something that I couldn't pronounce like "Pfeffernuse" before). As for the last line, who says love's not a game for three? I never could find the two-buck-chuck or any meat department whatsoever, but for one penny shy of $3, I found this wine by "Charles Shaw". In the immortal words of Flavor Flav, "Don't believe the hype!" Alot of times when people build something up, especially in the press, all that's left is hype. I saw a story on CBS Sunday morning, about this particular spot and how they were expanding throughout the country with new stores. And when I heard it was coming here I was pretty stoked. I figured I would check it out when the crowds died down a bit. But no such luck. That is until now. First, the parking space doesn't match the size of the store. When the parking lot is bigger than the actual store I begin to say, "hmmm..." No joke, this store is small. Really small! I saw a mad dash of shoppers scrambling to find parking places and for what? It's like a mini-me version of Sun Harvest! I don't get what all the hoopla is all about! The Quarry has way cooler stores than this one, just go to Whole Foods, which is like 7 minutes away. I went to this store seeing what they had or might I say, didn't have. I think they are trying to portray themselves as a store of quirkiness and curiosity with the interesting cards and food items, but there seemed to be a disconnect. Again, if you want a store off the beaten path just go to your local Sprouts. You know you like their Lucas-flavored Gummy Bears, don't ya?!! In addition I went looking for some tasty brews, but all I found was a section that had five beers! If you want to be a little funky offer the Eggnog Stout I have seen around at other stores or the Jalapeno flavored variety I saw at Specs just the other day? It felt a little pretentious and dis-ingenious. Curiosity stores seem to be in full bloom now and this store is no different. We feed off hype and eat up quirky spots, for example The Snake Farm which adds to the lore of our town. Similarly, we listen to local media and give our patronage to places that don't really need it. My suggestion: Go to this place, tell your friends you went to this place then you can be on with your life!!! read more

Opening day was crazy, as expected. I made a trip out there today (I may or may not have had it on my calendar!) and parking was insane, but they did a fantastic job of crowd control. There was a guy ROCKING out on some steel drums, someone handing you a cart, and someone to greet you. As far as TJ's go, this one is laid out a bit larger. When the new has worn off, it'll be rather spacious to shop in. In typical TJ's fashion, the employees were all incredibly friendly and chatty. They had ample staff there to guide customers and help out with any questions. I overheard a few times, "I can't tell you my one favorite thing, but I can for each section!" Of course, they were sampling multiple things, like the always amazing cookie butter. The produce looked fantastic and uber fresh, and the alcohol selection was pretty ample for a Trader Joe's. The line for checkout snaked through the entire store, but don't get scared: I was in the line for less than 10 minutes. They're speedy, but not rushing you. I can't wait for the new to wear off so I can make this my usual grocery spot. read more

Upon wanting to see what Trader Joe's was all about, I discovered it was, in fact, NOT an overpriced Whole Foods wanna-be like I thought. Trader Joe's is actually affordable!! I got a bottle of wine for $2.99! They have a ton of organic and natural foods as well as some unique things (cookie butter!). I bought some cooking sauces in jars and I knew exactly what every ingredient listed was. There were no crazy chemicals or additives. There is a sample station for their coffee, pizza, spreads, and most important Cookie Butter. If you like desserts you MUST try it! it is shockingly not loaded with fats and sugar for its amazing taste. Overall very pleasant experience. The staff was very freindly, but the store is small full of lookers and shoppers. My only complaint is that the parking lot is TINY! I was unaware that you can park in the garage next door that is at the condos. I will do that next time. read more

The infamous supermarket chain has landed in the Alamo City. While I am sure there is an eccletic bunch of shoppers chomping at the bit for Trader Joe products, I for one am not. That is not to say they do not have some very fine products but in my opinion, no so many as to warant an In N Out burger cult following. This location at the Quary Market is in a tight spot. Parking is extremely limited so be forewarned. The store is smaller than the other Trader Joe's I have visited but have most of their hits. My personal favorite, a must buy in my opinion, are the Shrimp Corndogs. They sound corny, but are quite delightful. Do a quick internet search to find out what products are worth the money and which are not. Prior planning prevents... Anyway, enjoy. read more
