Half the party arrived at our 10:30am reservation and the second half came 7 minutes behind due to a serious medical condition. When we arrived to be seated at this time the hostess was extremely upset and told us: "I was told to hold your table from 10-10:30am and it's 10:40am." We then said "sorry we were running late." The follow up response was then "sorry doesn't do anything. If I hit you in the head and then said sorry, that wouldn't do anything. I took the table apart and now will have to reset it." She continued to harass us because we were slightly late and apologized. If I had the opportunity to give 0 stars, I would. We immediately took our business elsewhere. Visited this place today and overall it was an average experience. The service was a bit slow and nothing too bad but compared to other restaurants in the area a little slower than it should have been. The food was good and the highlight was crispy bacon and solid pancakes . The coffee was ok and the ambiance was a nice local diner which was nice. Over the prices for the food you get is a little high. For the same prices one could eat at a place like Mario's Early Toast that has better flavor and a lot more attentive service and a bit better on taste and selection. Overall, we might give the place a shot later for lunch as we saw chicken fried steak and being that were originally from Texas might have to come back for that chicken fried steak. read more

My mom was visiting and so I took her to this breakfast spot. The train station coffee shop atmosphere is old school diner and we lived it! Our server was friendly and attentive. Our eggs were cooked perfect, lots of meat in the omelet and for the lighter menu, the portions were not small. I enjoyed the cheese options as most places don't offer pepper jack. My mom really liked the biscuits it was light and fluffy. If you're looking for a country diner with excellent food and service, this is your place. I will definitely be back. read more

One of the best breakfast places you will ever find. If you're a fan of biscuits and gravy or hash browns you won't find better.

We ordered two cups of coffee and wanted to share a blueberry French toast. Upon ordering, the waitress proceeded to tell us that there was a $3 charge "to share". We decided that was definitely not worth the extra charge and asked for the bill for our two cups of coffee ($7.00!!!). While retrieving our check, we could see the owner questioning the waitress, who was very sweet, about our order. The waitress told her it was because of the up-charge to share. The owner then proceeded to shoot us a nasty look and slammed the back door on her way out. Hence the review: kinda cute inside, don't know about the food, coffee was hot. I used to come here all the time, but for some reason, I just haven't come back in a while. I decided to drive up from Rancho for breakfast. A great decision. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but looks can be, and in this case are, deceiving. On the inside, the place is just a good old-fashioned coffee shop, like you would see way back when. Even on a Wednesday morning, there were a good number of people in the restaurant. They get pretty busy on the weekend, because they are so good. Everybody is very friendly, as it's a family run place. I was handed a menu, but I knew what I wanted already. The seafood omelette. It has shrimp, salmon, avocado, cheese, and hollandaise on top. The hollandaise is amazing, but I'm trying to eat lighter, so this time I asked them to leave it off. It comes with potatoes, but I asked for fruit, and for my bread I got a biscuit. When they call it a seafood omelette, they are not kidding! The thing was absolutely chock full of delicious salmon and shrimp. They did not skimp on the fillings. The avocado was creamy, I liked the Swiss cheese on top. I asked for light cheese, was just the right amount. It went with the omelette perfectly. I got a very nice selection of fruit, the biscuit was fluffy, the coffee was great, and they kept my cup full. I was stuffed when I left the table. Breakfast was $22 before tip. Considering the amount of seafood that was in that omelette, it's an amazing value! I will be back more often. Thanks. read more

20 years of loyalty gone in one meal I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 20 years, but the service and food quality have gone significantly downhill. My most recent visit was the final straw. To start, our meals didn't even come out together. One person's order arrived, and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the second order to show up. When the second meal--an omelette--finally arrived, it was completely wrong. Instead of the kitchen making a fresh one or actually fixing the mistake, they simply took the plate back, flipped the omelette over to hide the error, and brought the exact same plate right back out to me. It is incredibly disappointing to see such a lack of care and basic service from a local staple. After two decades of coming here, I will definitely not be returning. read more

The food that was brought to me was not at all what was described on the menu, but I didn't want to complain cause it's a small business and I was trying to be polite. Sadly this place used to be ok at best. It was a convenient place to stop for breakfast. Recently, they have decided to raise their prices by nearly $5.00 a plate and make their portions smaller. I can understand doing one but not both at the same time.. The service is mediocre at best. So, with the portions going down, price going up, and the mediocre service, I will no longer be eating at this establishment. Let me start with the end of the story: My son left this horrible dump crying. He's 11. Yeah, imagine how rude, unreasonable, and downright mean a restaurant's staff has to be to make a child cry. The staff was the owner wife/daughter, with the cook being the father. There's nowhere else to place the immeasurable blame. We two came with two friends. They were regulars at this place. They were greeted warmly. Their orders came out really fast and ours took so long it could not have been an oversight - it had to be spite. I ordered Dream French Toast/w biscuits and gravy. I was served pancakes, the wrong starch, and the biscuits were ice cold gravy. Just plain insulting. My son ordered a plain burger w/ fries. Long after everyone else was served and almost done, his burger came out burnt, w/ a toasted bun and gobs of mayo and all the toppings (lettuce, pickle, etc). There was so much mayo it slopped over onto his cool fries. When I asked to replace the charred bun ladened with undesired toppings, he was brought a bottom bun as replacement. Seriously? I asked the owner if he couldn't get a full bun. She shouted angrily at the kitchen, "[his name], she wants the whole bun now." Naturally I sent the whole mess back, asking for a new burger. The meat patty came back this time -- I kid you not -- as hard as a hockey puck. As edible as one too. When asked to address the massive blunders, the wife and daughter became as angry and rude. They not only defended the indefensible, but they tossed plates around like gorillas and could not have been more inappropriate. I have no idea why my son and I were treated so horribly. I have no idea why such a horrible family runs a public business. All I know is that if anyone reads this review and dines at the place where food goes to die, it's on you, not me. So first, this is a diner in Shingle Springs. You need to go there with that expectation. It is clearly a 'good ol boys' morning hangout. With that stage being set, it is a solid breakfast spot if you enter with those things in mind. The decor is eclectic (think sassy signs about manhood). The service is friendly but also not great (think waitress gossiping with other waitress behind counter, old gentleman regular refilling our coffee instead of waitress, etc). The food is classic diner fare, but holy cow do they give you a lot of it. My husband got the blueberry French toast. It came with cream cheese slices in between each bread slice and a mound of whipped cream. I got the chili omelette - real solid omelette with canned chili (I hate it when restaurants try to be fancy with chili omelette s). Options include bell peppers with your hash browns, and sour cream and onions with the omelette. I think both were about $10. The coffee was hot and not great but not terrible either. I think the name is a little misleading, because I thought there would be more coffee options since it's called a Coffee Shop. There's no coffee menu to my knowledge. Standard brewed black coffee with cream. I came in for a cup of coffee, and the hostess and waitress barely introduced themselves. You sit wherever you want, but it's awkward if you've never been in the restaurant before and you're kinda just standing there waiting for them to tell you that. I had to ask if I sit wherever, they didn't really lead with that lol. They asked for cash only for the coffee, because using a credit card is "too expensive". Despite Yelp stating that they accept cards . I brought my hydro flask bottle to pour my coffee in, and one of the ladies poked it. Literally touched it. And she came back to give me some weird story on how "they should invent a light to see inside the bottle". It was an odd experience. Please don't touch peoples personal stuff. They weren't wearing gloves, so it bothered me. I'll have to come back to try their food, because the cooks actually smiled and appeared nicer than the hostess/owner/waitresses. I'll update once I pay another visit and can attest to breakfast. Two stars for coming back and refilling my coffee although the extra commentary was unnecessary. It's the best diner experience I've ever been to. And because of a traveling job I had I've been to lots of diners. One sign of a delicious diner is how many pick up trucks are parked at 6 o'clock in the morning. It's always busy.
