Stopped here on the drive up to Tahoe from the SF Bay Area. The restaurant is spacious and cozy. The service was excellent! Our waitress constantly refilled our coffees and asked how we were doing. The food was also very excellent. I loved the breakfast. The hash browns were well fried and crunchy. The blackberry waffle was delicious and mounded with lots of fresh fruit. I highly recommend it! Came for a party of 6 today for breakfast. It's perfect cause we always get seated right away. Today I wasn't very hungry so I got a bagel with a side peanut butter. We stopped in to grab a nice breakfast after our granddaughter's soccer game. Once we got into the parking lot I looked up the yelp rating and could see the ratings were all over the map. Apparently, there is new management and hopefully, they are working to make improvements. The building is good size. The front has booths and a lunch counter. Have always loved lunch counters! The back of the cafe are tables that are numbered. Acoustic ceiling tiles and lighting that seems out of place. The carpets appeared to be either stained or dirty. Now for the service and food. Our server, Sarah, was just darling. Worked really hard to ensure we were happy but the kitchen was making it difficult. The hubby and I both ordered waffles with a side of hash browns and sausage, juice and coffee. The waffles were doughy, hash browns and sausages were lukewarm at best. It's sad when the butter won't melt on your waffle. Hoping the restaurant is going through growing pains and the food improves. I am so glad we found this place. we went there after church on Sunday and did not regret it. I had the waffles. They were warm and they put real fruit on top not the sticky gelatin stuff with just a little bit of fruit. They were refreshing and delicious. My husband had the country fried steak. He said it was the best steak he has had since moving to California and being from the south that says a lot for him to give a compliment like that! The service was friendly and fast. Left Tahoe hungry and discovered this diner on the way back to San Francisco. Was pleasantly surprised. Cute diner vibe, our furbaby was allowed inside too, Yay. Service was good, place was clean and the food was ok. Got a club deluxe sandwhich, kindda dry but tasted ok, the bacon waffle (Yum) and their Cornbeef hash was really good, their specialty i think. We had breakfast here this morning. I had a bacon omelette & my husband had corned beef hash. Both were excellent. Done to perfection Portion were large. Prices a bit less then other places. This place has an old fashion charm ... and real clean ... I'm so sorry I didn't get the name of our waitress because she was the only server ... she had maybe 10-12 tables of two person each and did it all. When she wasn't checking on customers to see if they wanted anything else she was cleaning. If your on the way up the mountain and need a meal I highly recommend! Don't come here! Read the reviews!! Stopped here for breakfast on the way to Apple Hill. Got here around 9:50 and barely left at 11:05. The waitress was quick to take our drink orders, but failed to notice the lipstick on the mug. We didn't make a big deal just asked for a new cup. We waited for our food, in a pretty empty restaurant, for over 45 minutes. The toast was sitting on the window easily 15 min before our breakfast was done. When it came out, the eggs were all very over cooked and no where near over medium. Still didn't complain. Then as we are eating three out of four of our meals have a short black hair in it. None of us have short black hair. We didn't ask for any discounts or anything but we did show the waitress who agreed it was disgusting. She said she was going to call her boss about it, about 10 min later the other waitress came over and said she just wanted to clarify what we wanted them to do about it. To be clear, we never asked for anything and the first waitress just said she was going to see what she could do. Then she proceeded to downplay it and said one of the plates just look like it was a "fuzzy" and the cook wears a hat. This is what pissed me off. We didn't ask you to do anything and now you're dodging accountability? Hats don't catch all hairs, and there was a man worth an uncovered beard. I also don't eat "fuzzies". What a bizarre way to treat someone. I really wish I had taken pictures of the hairs but I had no intention of posting this review until the way the second waitress treated us. read more

Came in with an elderly friend. We usually split something. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (not on menu) with a salad. Salad came out first and we had to ask for the extra plate. Blue cheese dressing was really runny and had very little flavor. Then the sandwich arrived, bread was only buttered in the middle and was dry about an inch from all the edges. Cheese not melted. Bread barely warm. Asked the waitress to fix it and it came back kind of burnt, but edible. Got the bill and she charged us full menu price for a ham and cheese sandwich. I asked why the grilled cheese wasn't cheaper. She took a dollar off. No wonder we were the only people in there at lunchtime. They do a good breakfast but lunch was really lacking. I've been going there for 30 years and it used to be really good. Too bad. read more

We had a "daily special" from the board at the door. It was chicken and waffle, and the Mediterranean omelette. The folks here were super friendly! Food was great! The chicken was crispy and light and the waffle tasted like it had a bit of vanilla in it which was a great combo for the maple syrup. The feta that was on the omelette was WAY better than expected! Worst. Service. Ever. The place was less than 1/2 full and we waited over 40 minutes for two waffles. No server even came back to freshen our coffee until I was finally able to flag one down. When I complained about the wait, her response was that her manager took our order and then walked away. Paid for the coffee and gave up on the waffles. Cross contamination and germs everywhere. Grossed out before I even got my food. Server pit his face almost all the way into our drinks, when he sat three drinks down at once. Also, the kid wiped all of the tables with a wet rag..seven tables and then went and wiped his coffee and buss station, then wiped his hands with the same rag. Next he prepared everyone's silverware.
