What an adorable old fashioned candy store with an ice cream counter. I looked over all the candies. Wow what a selection!! Including some sugar free selections that I haven't seen before. I ordered 2 scoops of ice cream. I decided to have it in a cup and am I glad I did. The scoops were huge and it was really hot outside. The ice cream was good. I believe both the butter pecan and coffee ice cream was Dryers, which is a good ice cream. It is a full service ice cream counter.... They have sundaes and milkshakes as well. Came across this place in search of ice cream, and what a surprise. This candy emporium is simply amazing and not to be missed. If you want a run at nostalgia, see some favorites from a bygone era, or just want to feel like a kid in a candy shop and drool... definitely come here (just don't drool!). The ice cream shop is tucked way in back and in the process of getting there you have to pass hundreds of candy options, plus a whole huge section of puzzles off to one side. There's a large selection of ice cream flavors, most from standard brand, and I opted for the pineapple coconut on a waffle cone while my better half had the peanut butter chocolate fudge. YUM! The scoop was plentiful enough and $5. each. The entire store is a feast for the eyes. You can pick up a plastic carry container and just go around and pick whatever candies you want, including a vast array of taffy. Remember when movie theaters had a wonderful tempting array of candy in boxes at the snack counter? Good & Plenty, Dots, Junior Mints. They have them, plus a wide assortment of PEZ and Jelly Belly. We absolutely loved our first experience last year so we couldn't wait to come back. What a total disappointment. There was 20 minutes until they closed and she had to remind us of that at least three times. We had planned on two shakes and lots and lots of candy buying but we obviously put her out when she complained about making a shake when she had PLENTY of time! It's really too bad. We were like kids in a candy store, but now we have adult money! We had so much fun looking at all the different varieties of candies. There are a lot of classics like hard candies, taffy, mints, rock candy and more! They also have retro candy that's not as easy to find and some newer items. There is also a whole ice cream counter as well as chocolates and fudge. They had a pretty wide variety of flavors and varieties which means no matter what sweet treat you're craving they'll have something for you. One of my favorite things about the loose candy was being able to decide if I wanted just a piece, a few or a whole handful of different flavors. I grabbed some pieces that I wasn't familiar with but being able to get just a couple made it easy to try it out. The staff was really friendly and didn't judge us for spending over $40 on candy... Oooh fuuudge!~Ralphie from the Christmas Story On Memorial Day my boyfriend and I stopped in for something sweet after seeing the sign Freshly Made Fudge displayed in their store window with several pans of delectable looking fudge!! I went with a slice of Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge, which was so soft it melted in your mouth as you swallowed the swirls of decadent chocolate and creamy peanut butter, it was just amazing! My only complaint would be that my boyfriend mentioned their expired cans of soda from months back and our cashier completely ignored him, even when I spoke up and said hopefully someone will check the shelves. read more

It was fun to go into the store, but I didn't go for customer service. That is lacking. They have a good puzzle selection, but only two brands. Had they carried more brands I would have been more interested. The puzzles are about $3-4 more than Amazon or other stores that I've been too. For great customer service I'm happy to pay extra. For their poor customer service it's not worth it. There is a large candy selection, but I didn't feel welcomed, nor did I think that the owner cared if I made a purchase or not. That's too bad, cause in the middle of the week a lot of stuff is closed in Jackson/Sutter Creek and I would think that they would be grateful for any sales they make. The owner told us that they've been there for 40 years. That's great, but in this day and age and having survived the pandemic, enjoy your customers. I was nonplussed. read more

They have: fresh made taffy in over 30 flavors, novelty candy, pez, old fashion hard to find candy, home made hard candy buttons, jigsaw puzzles, Goo Goo clusters, Moon Pies, Reeds, CowTails, Abazaba, Big League, cookie cutters, Turkish Taffy, Charleston Chew, insect candy, lollipops, pie pops, and fresh made fudge in a variety of flavors...and so much more. My faves are the fudge and hard candy buttons. The staff are sweethearts. The shop is located on MainStreet in Jackson. This is the CUTEST candy/ice cream/coffee/fudge shop, with one of the most extensive puzzle and cookie cutter collections to boot. Their taffy collection was so large it was almost overwhelming and the ice cream scoops were HUGE. We got the huckleberry, of course... I would have included pics but we ate it all too fast! They also had a great chocolate case and homemade fudge; decent licorice and tea selections as well. The rear had adorable carved wooden toys on wheels (including trains and a darling brontosaurus) in back. Everything was amazingly affordable. We'll be definitely coming back next time we're in the area. read more

This place has a huge selection of candies, popcorn, and ice cream. There was a lot to choose from but I ended up with the English Toffee Fudge bar. It was a little pricier than I expected. Also, I little too sweet for my liking. I could only have a couple bites at a time. The white fudge was very soft, almost marshmallow-like and the toffee was soft. I have alway been a supporter of local small businesses especially my neighbors on Main Street. Today I have decided I will no longer support Train Town Candies and Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street in Jackson. My daughter and my friends kids walked down after school today to get some jelly beans. After they spent $15 on jelly beans one of the bags split down the side and the jelly beans went all over the floor the owner not only told him that he wouldn't replace them he gave them a second bag and told them to pick them up and they could eat those! When I went down and asked about it he said yeah I told them that! I'm not giving them more candy. I was disgusted that he treated our children that way. Then he accused them of ripping the bag and throwing them on the ground! Seriously why would a child do that?!? And as I said to him that this is no way to do business he walked away and wouldn't talk to me. We have been a loyal supporter but I will never return to a place that first of all would tell the consumer to pick up food off the floor and eat it and secondly blame the child when you can clearly see the bag was defective! I'm sorry that you hate your job and children but that is no way to treat anyone! You should be ashamed!! I will attach a picture of the bag that was clearly split down the side and what it looks like when you try to rip the bag as well as the bag of jelly beans that he told them to eat off the floor. We stumbled upon this candy store while visiting Jackson, CA. When we saw that they had an ice cream shoppe in-store and that they made frozen coffee drinks like Starbucks we wanted to order something. They also had the matcha powder to make frothy green tea drinks. When we requested a green tea matcha smoothie with melon syrup in it, which they sold at the store, they refused to make it for us saying that they felt uncomfortable putting so many ingredients into one drink. What the hell?!?!?!? I'm the customer, put in the drink whatever I am requesting. As long as I am paying for it, you don't have the right to tell me what I want in it. We had a large basket of candy that we were planning on buying and when we got this sorry-ass excuse for not making the drinks we wanted, we left the basket sit on the floor and left. I called the owner a few days later and explained what happened and she was so indifferent it was unbelievable. Apparently, pissing off customers and having them not spend their money at her store is something that doesn't bother her in this tough economy. This is a candy store with high prices on many items located in a small town. I'm surprised they are still making enough to keep the doors open. read more

OK, let me make this review simple. They have glass bottle Pepsi from Mexico, that is about all I should have to say about this great place. I am sure you will be asking for more, so here we go. Yes, they have ice cream, candy, soda and old fashion Candies, but they also have souvenirs, they have train tracks for the kids or older kids. What really caught our attention to this place, was the friendly people that work here, the lady and gentleman that were working that day, seamed to be family members too, so when we walked in with all five of our kids, they treated us too like family and made our kids feel like they were at home. I know this was genuine because we have walked in to other places, and they look at us like "keep those kids in line or you will be out of here so fast". We did not get that here, of course we walked out of this place with some great candy for the drive home (about 2 1/2 hours) and of course my soda in glass bottle, also a great day in my mind. We look forward to our next trip to Gold Country and stopping by Wierschem's again. read more

We discovered this little gem while taking a mini-tour of some of the gold country towns on the way to Yosemite and to say that I probably geeked out about it would be an understatement. I'm going to echo some of Michael N.'s comments minus kids, because I'm the only child in question. My wife and I don't have kids but I considered finding an orphanage and abducting a few just for the occasion - I'd drag them here and listen to their delighted cries. From the first minute you walk in you can tell it's a labor of love. They have bundles and barrels of candy... a Sh!% tonne of it. From hard candies to fudge, and from pre-packaged wrapped candy to "buy in bulk" splendor. As I've grown older my capacity for sweets has diminished but my childish wonder and excitement at the sheer variety has not. This place has both a LARGE amount and variety of candy and also an ice cream parlor, which owing to the fact it was 9:30 in the morning, we did not try. Just the same, wow! For anyone that likes trains, this place is wonderful. After speaking with the gentleman who owns the place I found out that this used to be solely a crafts store which included train sets and train paraphernalia among other things. However, he STILL painstakingly carves and builds wooden model trains himself - a labor which must take ages and sells at a pittance given the time. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the one I bought, given that I didn't really need/want/have any use for, but the sheer quality and love of the carvings made me fall in love with it. If this narrative sounds like I am literally giggling like an excited school-girl, it's because I absolutely am. I love candy. I love trains. I love Ice cream. I love popcorn. And so I love Wierschem's Train Town Candies and Ice Cream Parlor. Moreso I also loved interacting with the older couple, a gentleman and lady of delightful temperament, and a young lady who was equally delightful. I cannot speak to any criticisms but if those have any merit they are dwarfed by the wonderful experience and warmth we encountered. read more

The salt water taffy selection is huge. My favorite flavor here is vanilla...delicious. The taffy is creamy melt in your mouth. They also carry old fashion hard to find candy like mallo bars, abba-zaba, and cowtails...Ice cream...homemade fudge...bottled sodas..knick knacks. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

Really!! Minimum $5.00 for debit and credit cards?? A few points ... firstly MAKE IT CLEAR at the ice cream and candy counters counter that there's a minimum order ... not doing so is just plain discourteous ... but more than that ... have you missed the trend everywhere that there's (supposedly) "a cash shortage so please use the exact change or even better use a card" ... IMHO the minimum charge concept is completely unjustifiable and don't tell me it's because of the "high" credit card charges ... the amount of the charges (maybe) as much as 2.5% to 3% which in the big picture is small potatoes ... it's not my job to pay your business expenses ... you should manage that in your price structure ... there are a (very) few merchants who add a credit card fee (which is still unacceptable but slightly better than a minimum) and fortunately there are always alternative service providers who don't. We see restaurants wanting to add a fee for employee medical, or for Covid expenses, or for their kitchen staff and so on ... screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me. Won't (and don't) go again to those business who want to involve me in their business expense amortization ... it's not my job ... here's the deal ... you provide a service or a product at a reasonable price and I'll pay you for it ... it's that simple. I stopped doing business with this dump. Candy was stale. Owners (Ma, Pa, young lady) were always very rude - like hick town yokels. They would make personal comments to me (about my shoes and the type and amount of candy that I was purchasing) that I found to be particularly offensive. They never once said, "Good Afternoon," "Thank You," or "Come Again." I now purchase candy from Amazon - It's fresher and a whole lot cheaper. We go there quite a bit because my grandson loves it, and lives nearby, but I have to be honest and admit that a lot of the candy is stale and also that it tends to be very expensive. We laugh about how much it ends up costing, but they do get points for having such a wide variety and therefore can give real meaning to the phrase "like a kid in a candy store". My advice when you go there is check the sell by date if at all possible and if the salt water taffy is too hard, skip it. Still, your kids will probably love it so it's possibly worth a visit, if you come to town, for that reason alone.....no point in having grandchildren if you can't indulge them a little is what we always say. read more

I run a children's camp once a year in Jackson...one of the highlights of the week is when I take the kids down to town and treat them to ice cream, sundaes, etc from Train town! It has an amazing ambiance and I love the selection of Taffies! I also love the old candies they have in the back...candies you haven't seen since you were a kid! read more
