I've been having upper body aches due to weight training and postural issues from office work in the last year. I decided to get into more functional movement training to compliment my yoga practice and came across TransformGST. Pulled the trigger and signed up for a yearly membership after taking a few classes via Classpass. So far, no disappointments! All the instructors are extremely supportive (Jan's a funny guy) and helpful. The classes are pretty accessible for most folks, but the barrier to entry is smaller if you're physically in shape. Did my first (sloppy) muscle up at the gym this weekend, which felt a lot better than finding your 1RM on a heavy lift. :-) I'll update this a few months into my membership. read more

I've been here a couple times and have had two unique experiences, both enjoyable. The first was was a handstand class with ex gymnast and Cirque performer, Joe Putignano. I was the only person who showed up on the snowy day and so he worked with me one on one giving me exercises to improve my handstands while sharing helpful tips to improve. Joe was very encouraging, personable, and a joy to be around. His handstand class has been my favorite class out of the 50+ different studio classes I have done through ClassPass. The next class I did was a conditioning class with about 8 others. This class had 2 instructors, both very friendly. I can see how this class is a great way to supplement acrobatic training. There were only a couple apparatuses, which left a lot of time where participants were standing... but the instructors were kind enough to extend the class, with everyone's approval, and tried to offer exercises in between using the apparatuses. At the end of class, the instructors let us know that they were planning to put more hooks on the ceiling to take away some of the wait time. Overall, I plan to return for more! read more

I started Transform six months ago, and can't imagine going anywhere else now. The group combines strength work, flexibility, and mobility (not to mention handstands and other fun movements) and it's left me feeling better and stronger than any other prior training styles. The coaches come from a broad variety of backgrounds: gymnastics, aerial arts, circus performance, yoga, and more. The combination of different backgrounds applied through the GST program means more ways of explaining things, useful for students of different learning styles. The classes are equally productive and challenging for the novice or advanced athlete, and is useful and safe for people of all ages. Finally, it's a great community with wonderful people. 11/10. Under one roof you have the combined talents and knowledge of the top trainers, performers and gymnastics community in New York. Some people are aware of gymnastics strength training and the opportunity it affords for creating the strongest body possible. If you are one of them, then you need to visit Transform as soon as possible as it is one of the richest studio environments you can train at. Others of you may be treadmill warriors, cross fitters, bodybuilders, soul cyclers, etc. To you I would say, try this. If you can find a studio that will develop your strength, mobility and balance the way you can here I have yet to find it. Ultimately, this isn't just a gym. The classes here are sooo much fun. While I'm not pursuing gymnastics or calisthenics full steam, I drop in occasionally for mobility and handstand classes. I'm an average person who used to tumble and do gymnastics as a kid. To me, these classes are really like being a kid again. Coaches are excellent, patient, and amazing. If you're full-steaming it, I think this would be the best place to train. But if you're half-assing it like me, it might be the most fun and unique place to drop in. read more

Small class sizes, a warm community, and the best coaches ever! The instruction emphasizes increasing mobility and strength in a safe and effective way. The foundations classes work progressions on particular gymnastic skills like handstand, manna, and levers. It's a small space, but they maximize the use of it. If you get obsessed and sign up for an unlimited membership (as many do), the classes are very affordable. Couldn't ask for more! read more

I've been coming here for a few months now and I'm hooked. My background is from yoga and I believe this is the perfect next step to improve your asana practice. All instructors are amazing, classes are small (10-12 ppl max.). So all exercises are tailored to your skill level. The space is small, but very welcoming. Shower with towel service is also offered, so going to the morning classes before work is perfect. It is normal to take back to back classes, especially over the weekends, where you can develop your splits, then work on handstands and then rings, as an example. I don't believe there is another place in the city where you can do this. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. read more

I've been to 3 classes thus far and just bought a 10-pack, as these classes have really been a boon to my bodyweight training. I generally train solo at my other gym on weekdays using GMB's online programs (which I also highly recommend), and I find it really helpful to come to these Transform classes on weekends to get a checkup on my form and learn new exercises and stretches. The class sizes are small and the instructors are super qualified. Plus I've been able to meet some fun people in the classes who are also in their 30s and have similar fitness goals. P.S. I highly recommend the handstand classes for anyone trying to learn a handstand for the first time (i.e. me) as well as people trying to achieve more advanced progressions. read more

At Transform Gst they really have the coach's eye. True focus on the quality of movement as well as knowing how to scale exercises for each individual regardless of the level. There aren't many (if any) fully adult-focused gymnastics gyms in NYC. Transform does a fantastic job introducing adults to gymnastics strength training and then progressing them to their goals. The coaches in particular are not just great at their job, but they're experts in their own right with backgrounds in elite gymnastics, circus, performing arts, etc... Highly recommended! read more

This business is experiencing some growing pains at the moment, struggling to accommodate the number of students in their tiny studio. This is good and bad, since obviously they have quality coaches, but might be ready to expand in order to fully allow their students to train effectively. I have been training at Transform for a few months now. I just love it here. It really feels like a family - everyone is so supportive and nice. The trainers are so incredibly knowledgeable and will work with all types of bodies. It is such a great place to learn. I've consistently attended classes, 3-4 times per week since July 2018. Prior to Transform GST, I considered my fitness level to be above average, as I am very familiar with kettlebells, sandbags, calisthenics, martial arts, etc. Since my first TGST class, I have been humbled in more ways than I could have imagined. I can honestly say that every class I've attended has been uniquely challenging. I've been forced to realize my lack of mobility, has in fact caused me to not be as strong as I thought. One specific drill using a 5lb weight proved that to me. Each instructor possesses vast knowledge and experience, allowing you to fully understand the principles behind each movement/technique. They are extremely helpful, encouraging, and maintain their smiles while mentally and physically pushing you beyond your comfort zone. There are no egos; the community of instructors and students are super supportive and will work with you where you are at. In closing, if you're looking to be challenged; if you're looking to grow; if you're looking to experience the fascinating world of gymnastic strength training, I can think of no better place than Transform GST. read more

i was fortunate enough to meet one of the instructors (Ari H.) elsewhere and decided to 'give it a try'. this was one of the best things i could have done. the term "Gymnastics" was intimidating at first since i have absolutely no previous experience with such training, but it turns out that all you need is some of the best trainers i have ever met to make things possible. after coming here for just a few months i am already able to do things that i thought were long gone, or never even there. all this in a 'no Bells & Whistles' setting, just complete focus on teaching/learning . thank you Paul, Nick and staff for creating this one of a kind space . read more

Transform is my favorite training facility in the city. Ive been attending classes here for over a year and have watched my progress skyrocket. Transforms instructors are knowledgeable in the skills they possess and transfer that knowledge to each student to have them reach their maximum potential.
