My family needed companion care for my 87 year old grandma. We spoke to Darla and received a free assessment to better serve my grandmother's needs & Set up our days and times. On the expected date of arrival no one showed! I then called to inquire what happen, and I was told there must've been a miscommunication and the girl that was picked out for us had already taken a full-time position. I was then offered the following day with a new caregiver, I politely agreed. That next morning I received a phone call from Darla explaining The caregiver schedule to come will not be coming. So she would be sending her assistant instead. Giving the benefit of the doubt I agreed. Two hours into the four hour shift I was pulled aside by the assistant and rudely judged and shamed for "drug paraphernalia" seen on an outdoor table. This drug paraphernalia she referred to was a small marijuana pipe that one is legal in the state of California and two medically prescribed to a member of my household and has been prescribed to that person for years. When I tried to explain that to her she became agitated and rude. I stated that I wasn't sure if this was going to work out, I don't think it's appropriate to be judge and treated poorly in my own home. She then snapped back at me saying "If this isn't going to work out I need to know now"! I explained that I wanted to discuss it with her boss. Her response was "NO! I am her assistant you'll deal with me, if this isn't gonna work out I want to know now because I am leaving"!! So I kindly dismissed and and she stormed out. Her behavior was so unbelievably unprofessional!! I could understand there being an issue if someone was smoking around her or other caregivers but that was not the case.

I felt she truly cared and that's why they got two stars instead of zero. Dahlia gets five stars! Unfortunately, Home Helpers recently sent us a letter stating they were going to have to change their fee schedule due to changing labor laws. Of course, they had known about this change for quite some time and they had time to plan for it. However, they advised that our fee increase was to go into effect less than a week after we received the letter. This gave us little to no time to make any changes. Darla, the manager, also tried to make it sound like we, personally, could be sued if she didn't implement the fee increases. The is ridiculous and just seemed to be written to intimidate us. She wrote, "This has to go into effect on November the 7th as there are cases that have gone to court on the caregivers not being paid correctly, which means you and I will be sued." For the record, I don't think it was the huge fee increase that bothered me as much as the lack of time for us to make plans. Fortunately, we were able to make arrangements with another company. Darla then told us that "It is really a shame that you will not pay her what she is worth. Good luck" Doesn't really appear that their management is very compassionate to seniors unfortunately. Again, Dahlia, the caretaker was awesome. Management not so much.

When my parent got injured and was coming home from the hospital for a long rehab, a close friend who is a geriatric social worker referred Home Instead to us. I could not have been more grateful. The communication, the attention to detail, the light touch, all went a long way in getting my parent back on their feet and able to regain some independence. Throughout the process, whenever there was a question, or concern, or even scheduling request-I could get a hold of Jim K. with ease and things were handled immediately. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing home care, the silver-lining will be working with Jim and the Home Instead team. They're fantastic.

We are very grateful that the VA connected us with Right At Home. They have been kind, understanding, and flexible with our schedule. Rich from Right At Home has been the caretaker for Dad for the past months, and he has been wonderful to work with - he is calm, patient, and incredibly kind to both of my parents. It was our first time navigating this kind of service, and honestly, we didn't know what to expect. From the start, they moved quickly. They came out right away to assess the situation, made clear and thoughtful recommendations, and matched us with caregivers who were genuinely excellent. No scrambling, no gaps, they just handled it. Rebecca and Lauren managed everything on the care coordination side, and they were outstanding. Responsive, proactive, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process. That kind of communication matters enormously when your family is stressed and trying to make good decisions fast. The caregivers themselves were professional, kind, and clearly knew what they were doing. My father was well looked after, and that peace of mind is hard to put a price on. If you're on the fence about whether a service like this is worth it, it is. We're grateful we found them when we needed it most.

The "president " also came into my home when he knew that I wasnt home and went into my 88 year old ailing grandfather's room. He came to collect payment after I had disputed the cost due to the LACK of professional care, and proceeded to look for my grandfather's checkbook and write a check out to himself. My grandfather is on hospice care and taking numerous medications to keep him somewhat catatonic. Brad Larsen took advantage of his failing health and basically asked him to sign the check and then left. He is unprofessional, sneaky and preys on the elderly. She likes San Juan Capistrano because it is smaller and less crazy than San Diego, where she has been living for over a year. The room rental price quoted at Ivy Park was within her budget and the facility was very nice, along with excellent food. My friend is a survivor of the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, and she has some mental- health issues (severe anxiety, etc.) because of that horrible experience. While touring Ivy Park, she met with the director for about 45 minutes and was upfront about her fire survivor experience and her mental health issues. Both the director and the sales person told her that they could help her and wanted my friend to move in ASAP. The sales person even e-mailed a video of the available room. The sales person drove over 200 miles (roundtrip) from Orange County to San Diego to go over forms and to collect a $2,000 deposit check. (The sales person also informed my friend that $4,000 would further be required before moving in.) At the end of the meeting, this sales person stood up and said, "You need to get out of here! If you don't, you could end up in a psychiatric hospital!" About two weeks before, Ivy Park told my friend that an "assessment" had to be done. They sent someone over from a local Ivy Park facility. Again, my friend was upfront about the fire and what she needed. The assessment person told her that they do not provide that kind of support. (This totally contradicted what the director and sales person had said.) The following week another "assessment" was required via telephone. While on this call my friend received another call from the director. He told her that he had changed his mind after reading her Kaiser medical files and since Kaiser could not help her, then they also could not. (We let Ivy Park access my friend's medical files because a TB test was required. I figured it might help and speed up the process if Kaiser sent a recent chest x-ray to the director. While requesting the x-ray, we also thought it might be a good idea--as a courtesy--to let the director also see her medical files. Her files and medical information, though, were used against her to reject her. What perplexes us, also, is the question: Why didn't the director request to see her medical files in the first place? This could have saved us all a lot of wasted travel time, aggravation, etc.) In summary, I am quite upset and angry that both the director and sales person promised to help my friend and let her move in. From the very beginning, my friend was upfront, truthful, and honest about what she is going through and her issues. She did not hold back any information and was looking forward very much to move in and be an Ivy Park resident. This only goes to show that these individuals will say and do anything to try and win a sale, regardless of what a potential resident's needs really are. The only positive thing I can add is Ivy Park did return my friend's $2,000 deposit, after numerous phone calls and text messages.

We recently moved from Pasadena to Dana Point. After considering many options -- from condos to…read morehomes to other over 55 communities, we settled on Sea Bluffs. Our experience has been nothing less than outstanding. The staff has been extraordinarily helpful with every little question or need we've had. They even brought us meals our first few days while we were trying to move in and unpack! Now that's above and beyond. We live in a beautifully refurbished condo with all new appliances, carpeting and paint overlooking the Pacific. The other residents have been welcoming and helpful with tips for local services and how to make the most of what Sea Bluffs offers. Now, everyone always asks about the food. I'm not going to lie and say it's gourmet cuisine, but it's good, healthy, plentiful and with plenty of choices. On the days I don't like what they're serving for dinner or lunch I just order from their "everyday menu" and get a burger, sandwich, or salad. Similarly, the activiites are plentiful. There are exercise classes, art classes, group discussions, singing groups and my personal favorite -- water aerobics! We hated leaving our home and Pasadena but it was time to prepare for the future, get away from potential fires, and be someplace cooler. I know we made a good choice by coming to Sea Bluffs. I can't imagine any other community that would check so many boxes.

Dear Brent and Haley,…read more I hope you are both doing well. Many times I have wanted to reach out and say how grateful we are to have my mom here at Sea Bluffs. I have worked in several residential settings throughout my career: A high school boarding school, college dormitories, and group homes for people with severe mental illness. I know there are many challenges in these types of settings, but from our experience with Sea Bluffs, we (my mom, sister and I) feel like every staff experience we have had in the last year-and-a-half has been top notch. We feel like everyone that works regularly with my mom on the Care Team is so kind, thoughtful, and anticipatory of her needs etc., and we soooo appreciate it. Also the maintenance staff has been very responsive, kind and respectful in all of their interactions, and the dining staff is always wonderful! Some stand outs to me, for what it's worth are Donna, Christine, Carmen, Jay, and Martha. Again, I think everyone's great, but these folks have consistently been excellent. And Jay is literally everywhere all at once :) I truly don't know how Donna does what she does, she has been a phenomenal presence since she was hired shortly after my mom arrived here. Always smiling, always helpful, an excellent communicator, always good at problem solving, always swift acting, always going above and beyond. She is a treasure! And of course with the two of you at the helm of overseeing all the hiring and training and culture building, I'd like to send along my gratitude to the two of you as well! Thanks for everything!
