My MIL was very nervous at first and there definitely was an adjustment period. But, the staff and other residence were super welcoming. After six months, she has found her people and has settled in. She loves going to her exercise class, hanging out on the front patio (weather permitting), and coffee clutching with her friends in the great room. The food is really good. Homemade soups! The units are well-maintained and perfectly sized. Did I mention that the staff is kind and helpful? We love it!

My father is 83 years old and suffers from multiple medical problems including dementia and unsteadiness secondary to peripheral neuropathy with frequent falls. We made a decision as a family to move him into the Heathers Manor in Crystal MN earlier this year. This turn out to be a nightmare of a decision for which I would give a negative star rating if I could. Three incidents during his first two weeks of residency that made us move him out of this facility as soon as possible. In the first incident a staff member came in to put him to bed a couple hours before his usual bedtime and he told her that he wasn't ready to go to bed yet. This staff member subsequently stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut. When he called the nurses station a couple hours later so that he could be put to bed, no one came to his assistance so he called 911 and the paramedics came to put him to bed. In the second incidents his significant other took him out for dinner. When she brought him back later that evening the entry door was locked. There was a pendant with a push button located near the door which was the activated but no one responded so his significant other had to knock in the door multiple times before someone came to open the door. The staff member who finally came to open the door 30 to 60 minutes later berated her for knocking on the door and said to her "we don't work in the cotton fields anymore." My dad has unsteadiness secondary to peripheral neuropathy and can't stand for prolonged periods of time and has had frequent falls so he couldn't stand outside waiting a long time for someone to let him in. Apparently he was given a code that he could've used to open the door but he has dementia and his significant other wasn't given the code. In the third incident he needed to be moved from his chair to his bed and the staff member who came to assist him scolded him for being "slow" and that he needed to "hurry up." My dad is a vulnerable adult and was paying top dollar to get the higher level of care that he needed and instead he was treated rudely and with disrespect. He paid the full amount due for the couple months he ended up spending there until we could find a new facility for him but they wouldn't refund him the $1500 move-in fee as it was "nonrefundable" which I think is criminal since he was ready to move out of the facility after his first couple weeks there because of his mistreatment. I filed a complaint with the Minnesota department of health. It turns out that another resident froze to death outside the facility around the time that my dad was locked out because he also was locked out and could not get back in. I would strongly recommend not to have your love one become a resident of Heathers Manor. If you know of any other social media sites that I can tell my dad's story I would be very appreciative as I want to let as many people know what a dangerous facility this place is.

Instead of being…read moretreated for it, they let her suffer (and I do mean SUFFER) in agony, and when she was soiled, they wouldn't clean her up for hours. We asked for her to be bathed so her skin wouldn't be so irritated, but they only bathe residents once a week, no matter what. They placed her soiled clothing in garbage bags for family to take home to wash, and the stench in her room from the bagged up, infectious, laundry was over whelming. When we brought our concerns to the powers that be, we were told, in a nutshell, that if we didn't approve of how they did things, we could pack up our mom and leave. This wasn't a one-time event... the entire month she was there she was ignored, forced to eat (which made her vomit), the daily PT was was to receive was sporadic at best. This was our first experience with transitional housing (rehab) and did not know what to expect, but we sure expected better than what we got! We will NEVER use this place again!!! And.... two days after being released from this "care" facility, our mom was back in the hospital because the C-Diff was that bad. Their lack of care made our mother very, very sick. Zero out of five stars. Not recommended. Wish they could be closed down.... Or fined.

They lie and tear families apart. The most horrific experience I have ever had! They should be shut down for the horrible, terrible things they did and the lies they made up. Thank God everyone realized and saw what they were doing and my mom is safe and out of there and I see her every single day. They purposely kept me from my mom. They are cruel, heartless, and I wonder how they sleep at night. There are a few nice staff, but most are 2-faced and lie. My mom is no longer being held hostage in their homes. I could give you graphic details and pictures but it's not worth it. They are not worth my time. Thank God everyone saw through the lies and got my mom out safely. Their doctor is worthless and doesn't have a clue how to do his job. Seriously, keep your loved one far away from this company. In the house my mom was in one resident died, then another one died shortly after, then my mom rushed to the ER. I started to fear something fishy was going on. The RN has zero personality and gives you zero confidence in her abilities. I could go on and on but I have said enough. Beware: If you report them to MDH or MAARC, the President will keep you from your family member. I am thankful for Ulissa, Ace, Ann, and Brooklyn. I certainly hope the 4 of you move on to a more reputable company and realize the terrible company you work for. It's a cult-like facility and actually scary. It's an absolute shit show. So glad my mom escaped their cult-like prison safely. They actually told me that Red Robin would be her home permanently. Then they pulled a stunt saying it would be shut down and moved her to the more expensive house to steal her money. The other house never shut down and the other 2 residents my mom lived with still live there. They wanted my mom's money. Thank you to the Guardian and the Ombudsman. You saw their true colors. My mom is free and safe and I get to love on her non-stop. The staff at her new facility are amazing and so understanding and loving. Night and Day Difference! Stay away please!

Before considering Heathers I'd encourage you to look at other properties instead…read more We intended to ease mom into assisted living at Heathers Manor by starting with an apt. at Heathers Estates, but we have lost our confidence that this is the best place for mom. To be fair, it may be that Heathers simply follows policies from parent company, Transforming Age. They arent exactly paragons of customer service either. All calls go to voice mail and I have never received a response to email inquiries. When submitting questions to Lang Nelson when considering their properties, I received an answer within a day. We are now moving to a Lang Nelson property, which also has more advanced care options when that time comes. Ironically, they used to own Heathers and it was hard to get an opening. Now, even in a tight housing market, they have more than 20 unrented apts. It's a downward spiral; less rental income means a tighter budget. A tighter budget means skimping on amenities and deferring maintenence, which will likely cause even more people to leave. Everyone here talks about how much it's gone downhill since TA bought it. Still, we had made good friends there, and when a 2 br opened up in December, we requested a transfer. We saw the apt twice, it didnt need major renovations and we assumed a February move in date. After no response or follow up we asked the director. Her response: On Monday, February 14, 2022, 03:29:54 PM CST, Kristel Lastine @heathersmanor.orgwrote: Are you aware of what the process is for apartment transfer? There is nowhere that states if a resident wants to transfer we must approve. So it is up to our discretion in the first place. My response: I was just going by the lease agreement. It basically says it's at tenant request and the fee is $1000. Other tenants confirmed that experience. Why was that process not followed? On Thursday, February 17, 2022, 01:33:02 PM CST, Kristel Lastine @heathersmanor.org wrote: I am aware of the lease wording. Yes, this was updated and changed per corporate for various reasons. The things we liked best about Heathers was the courtyard access and their indoor pool and spa. But the spa has only one working jet and is perpetually out of order. It's currently been out of order for over a month, and they may comsider it too costly to repair or replace. The pool is usually not properly heated and it's now closed evenings and weekends, the most popular times. There's a waiting list to get a garage. Some of them were destroyed by a fire and weren't rebuilt. Some of them flood during heavy rains or snow melts. They also transferred the director to another property without replacing her; stretching the Manor director to manage both properties. The Manor gets most of her time and attention. She schedules one monthly meeting to address Estate tenants' concerns but mire than once rescheduled because she had more important things to do. Concerns or questions directed to her from Estates residents are treated as an annoying intrusion rather than an opportunity to provide any customer service. My questions and concerns have either been ignored or rudely dismissed. We didn't consider Lang Nelson the first time, assuming that a church owned non-profit would provide the most compassionate care, but we found that a for-profit business who knows that full occupancy maximizes their revenue and focuses on retaining their tenants provides a much better experience. Update: after following Heathers move out instructions, including cleaning the closet door tracks with cloth covered knife or screwdriver, we arrived to early move in at Cedarwood to professional cleaning crew preparing our new apt. We were concerned about move out deadline of noon on 31st. Mind you, with 20 vacant apartments, On Thursday, February 24, 2022, 09:03:02 AM CST, Kristel Lastine On Thursday, February 24, 2022, 09:03:02 AM CST, Kristel Lastine @heathersmanor.orgwrote: Hi Deb - Per the lease if you extend to April 2 this would technically leave you responsible to pay through the whole month. Cedarwood said come early, no problem That pretty much embodies their different approaches to service. Ironically, if the director didn't dismiss our request to move to a two bedroom apt, we wouldnt have discovered the Lang Nelson experience. It's the single best thing we got from our Heather's experience.
