Had a great time in the "Retreat ". Very fun. We were a group of 2 and they placed us with another group of 2 for a room designed for up to 5 people. We were able to solve it in under the allotted time. They mentioned on the website there would be strobe lights used in the room but they could turned off if requested. They were left on but were not the annoying strobes that make it hard to walk or focus. Didn't hardly notice them. I felt they should have mentioned the gory details more. Some in our group were more offended by that. Clues were both easy and sometimes difficult. Good times. read more

A group of friends and I went to Trapology Boston today and unfortunately I have a fractured foot and was gonna sit this one out. I was going to wait in the waiting room for my friends as they did the escape room but the staff accommodated me and put a chair in the room so I could watch and still be with my friends. It was so sweet, they definitely didn't have to do that for me but they did and I appreciate it so much. The experience was still so fun although I couldn't participate fully. Came here for a bachelorette party with a group of 8. The staff here were really helpful and friendly. The escape room itself was challenging and suspenseful, it was our favorite part of our trip to Boston. Our game master Liz remained quiet throughout the whole game and only said something when we danced for our clues but she came through the last 10 minutes of our game with hints because we were so close, thank you Liz!! After we made it out with 7 minutes left, we took our celebratory pictures and each got a copy of the picture...free of charge! I've not done a ton of escape rooms (escape the rooms, what is the proper vernacular here?) but Trapology was a real blast. Came here on a date and so it was just me and the special lady friend trying to solve the puzzles. We did one that I think was called the retreat - spooky theme, very clever though! I won't spoil it (I hate spoilers), but you should try it. They have a fun mechanic where you get a few clues that you can redeem but your whole team has to dance to get it! The gamerunner (master?) can also dole out extra hints if they think you are struggling. I don't want to brag, but we got a bunch of hints probably because WE WERE STRUGGLING. This really helped the flow of the game though and kept us from feeling frustrated so I am into that. I think if you are cruising they wouldn't give you said hints. Theres also a top 10 board where if you finish the fastest (without hints I think) you get a prize? Or maybe just bragging rights. Either way, I assure you, we did not get on the board. The little things are nice as well. The waiting room is real nicely decorated, staff are friendly, and they email you your team photo at the end. And now to answer the question that is burning in all of your minds, yes there was a follow up date(s). APPROVED DATE LOCATION EVEN IF IT MAKES YOU LOOK DUMB! read more

Even with the included professional lighting and photo setup, and cutesy promotional video - what soured my experience was our host not fully explaining the train of thought behind all of our room's clues, or hand-waving some clues from an earlier version of the room (what??). When you do an escape-the-room with 8 other participants, you're not going to participate in every puzzle solution - to me the final review with the host really rounds out the experience. read more

Great company! We've completed all 5 games and couldn't say enough good things about Trapology. They especially did an outstanding job during Covid and made sure to clean the rooms, wear mask, required players to wear masks and made the rooms private. Wonderful escape room experience! The best rules video that I have seen. Funny, polite, and helpful staff. My friends and I did the cabin room, or the camping one. I forget the name. It was well designed, but I was disappointed in one of the clues. In hindsight, it seems clear, but upon closer inspection, I don't think there is a clear path to arrive at the conclusion that they expect. I've done way too many escape rooms. The con? I've spent way too much money on escape rooms. The pro? I really know a good (or great) escape room when I find one. Trapology is a good escape room, but carries a hefty $33 price tag (for their "Retreat" room) that left me wondering if it was worth it. Walking into the lobby, it's easy to tell Trapology is going to be good. You're greeted right away, they have very nice couches to wait on, and the entire place has a cool feel to it. The room itself (again, did the Retreat) was good. It's a good room for beginners and advanced players, with some easy puzzles and some very challenging ones. The room was a little scary (nothing too awful), so maybe leave the little kids home for this one. Had it been about $28 (the average price of an escape room, based on the ones I have done), it probably would've received that fifth star. However, I just can't bring myself to give a $33 escape room five stars unless it's REALLY something special. read more

This was my first time in any kind of escape room game, and I absolutely loved it. I came in a group of 10 (max number allowed), and we were split into two rooms for the Hustler game with first goal of trying to reach each other and then the ultimate goal of escaping in the allotted one hour. The time passed quickly, with everyone naturally assuming a role based on their strengths. Puzzles to figure out, codes to decipher, and combination locks to open were just a few of the challenges offered. I especially enjoyed the elaborate story and setting created to help make the experience more real. For those who are stumped, you do have an option to ask for a helpful hint (though limited in number), so don't despair. Included photobooth pictures at the end are also a great souvenir! read more

Honestly, the other Escape Rooms in Boston have tough competition; Trapology is in a league of its own! I was blown away by the authenticity of the set, the design of the puzzles, and how easily the story moved along. My friends and I played as a group of 9, and I'm pleased to say we escaped with 18 minutes to spare!! We booked "The Hustler" and had the time of our lives LOL. The puzzles CAN be crazy, but they're not impossible ;) Samantha greeted us upon completion and mentioned we were a particularly animated group, and was kind enough to take additional photos of us on our personal phones even after taking over the photo booth. All in all, this location has everything down pat and executes its vision beautifully. Well worth the $30 admission! Fiancé and I are so addicted to escape rooms that we've been doing escape rooms all over the world! Literally from US to Europe! This review is for "The Retreat". It was 10/10! We literally enjoyed every minute of it. The customer service was great! All the decors and puzzles were well done. They definitely put some work into it. Since it was just us 2, it was a bit difficult, but we managed to make it to the last part of the game. Our tip to you guys is to think outside the box. My friends and I made a three hour trip to Boston specifically to go to Trapology based upon a recommendation from an owner of a more local escape room to us. We have done almost ten rooms in CT and MA and "Drunk Tank" has been the only room that we have not beaten. I think if we had a few more minutes we would have nailed it :-) The set, story, and puzzles are incredible. All six of us were blown away by how immersive the game was. I highly recommend Trapology. Our team had an excellent time here. We signed up 2 groups of people and did 2 of the escape rooms. Drunk Tank, and The Hustler. I participated in The Hustler. Everyone had glowing reviews after and we all raved about our experience. The cost is not bad and well worth it. Staff is friendly and fun and loves to answer any questions you may have. They are all young and clearly there because they enjoy what they do. I won't give away any spoilers about the room we did but it was fantastic. The right amount of brain teasers and challenges without feeling overwhelmed or useless. Yes both our teams beat the rooms! Overall the experience was really clever and unique and well executed. After you get a group photo and bragging rights. This is a great idea for team activities with coworkers or other groups of friends. We had 7 on each team which was perfect. Make sure you have some diversity on your team too. Especially anyone who likes gaming, trivia, board games, solving puzzles, etc. read more

I went here for the first time last night with a few friends. It's on the second floor, so look for the restaurant Teatro across the street from the Boylston Green Line stop after going out the Boston Common exit. It's best to arrive early by about 20mins to settle in, hang up your coat and play some games in the waiting area before your group gets called for preliminary information for the escape the room game. We booked tickets for the Hustler, so we were put together with strangers for a full group of 10. It was really fun and full of clever puzzles and clues. After you've finished, a guide comes in to walk you through the solutions. Afterwards, you can take a photo with your team and get emails and print out copies for free. We will definitely be back soon! It's also close to Chinatown, so it's convenient to grab a bite to eat before or after you're finished. read more

I would have given this place 10 stars after doing the "Drunk Tank" with my family. The four of us had an absolute blast trying to escape from this room. The props were great, the puzzles were challenging yet fair, and the game master was excellent. Even though the four of us did not finish (we were very close), we could not stop talking about it. However, the reason for the 4-star rating is after attempting the 5 person escape room, The Retreat. This experience was less satisfying and would rate it 3 stars individually. Since this is only designed for 5 people, there was not as much action. Two people were often standing around doing nothing. However, the worst part of this experience was the game master. In addition to taking a long time after asking for clues (20-30 sec each), he actually gave us clues that we had already solved TWICE. It was as if he wasn't paying attention. Also, one of the puzzles that we already completed malfunctioned and we had to go back and do it again. This wasted valuable time. In other words, do yourself a favor and skip The Retreat but definitely give the Drunk Tank a shot. read more

Came here with three friends to do The Boobie Trap and had an absolute blast. I thought all the puzzles made sense, flowed well, and fit the theme of the room. Also, decor for the room did not disappoint and was very immersive. Anderson was an awesome host and actor (and absolutely killed it as the grumpy barista). He gave the perfect balance of helpful nudges when our group was having a lot of trouble while still allowing us to work out the puzzles and find secrets on our own. I'd definitely reccomend coming here and am planning on trying some of the other rooms already! read more

We did a full group of ten in the drunk tank scenario and it was awesome!!! We had a mix of people from long-time gamers (board games and video games) to non-gamers and everyone had a blast. There were enough puzzles that everyone had something to do the whole time. No one felt left out. Some of the puzzles were funny, some were mentally challenging, and there were plenty of things to interact with so it was never boring. We did use two clues when we were stuck and the clues were helpful without being obvious. Well played, Trapology! It is also great that the group has to stop and dance when you want a clue so one person can't hijack the game. It was a super memorable time and we are excited to go again! read more

My friends and i have gone to Trapology twice so far and each time is always a great experience for us! I'm always blown away with how the rooms and puzzles are designed. Small or big group i highly recommend everyone to check out Trapology, win or lose you go home with a nice picture memorabilia to keep. Big shout out to Nick for being great with my group! My friends and I have played both rooms -- Personally we LOVED Drunk Tank; The Hustler was also great but a little stressful for us! I think this is possibly the best Boston escape room (as far as ones located in Boston proper -- further out it's got a little more competition but still debatable!); probably once it opens its third room it will most definitively be the best since the other particularly good Boston escape rooms I have in mind only have one room. 1. The game stories are VERY Boston. Making good use of its tourist-friendly location while still being very familiar to the local crowd. 2. Clever puzzles and interesting storylines! 3. Good Game Masters. They pay very close attention and give great hints! Game Masters both times were very good about knowing what we were working on and giving us good hints and appropriate times. 4. Fun photos! Good props and a cool machine so you can email yourself your photo instead of waiting for it to get posted online (although they do that, too!) and you even get a print copy right away. Very cool. 5. Staff also seem to love escape rooms. Not necessarily a make-or-break for good customer service, but always nice to meet staff who can gush about escape rooms with other enthusiasts. read more

Holy cow, I had an amazing time! I went with my department (10 total) for team bonding. They were all super nice and funny and insanely helpful and accomidating with 2 team members being about 15 minutes late. We were able to beat The Hustler and plan on going back to beat Drunk Tank. We had to work as a team more than I thought! Every person was working on a portion of the puzzle(s) in the room to escape the room. It was absolutely incredible! If you're looking for an escape, this is it! I organized a work event at Trapology. I've heard about several escape rooms and thought it would be a fun thing to do with your colleagues. I, of course, Yelped around to see reviews from previous goers and this seemed to have the best reviews-- and boy! Trapology does NOT disappoint!! We had a total of 15 people and unfortunately had to get 2 separate Trap rooms. First group of 10 did The Hustler room and the remaining 5 were in their creepy storyline- The Retreat. I really want to go into detail of The Retreat (that is the one that I participated in) but I do not want to spoil any fun! Trapology's props used and settings were definitely on point. They did not rip you off of just computerized graphics or poorly made props/clues/tools. It really made me believe I was in a tent/outdoorsy while being inside a room. Although neither groups were able to escape it was all in all a fun and great experience! Extremely fun escape room!! Excellent customer service and amazing staff. The rooms are super detailed and challenging. Our host Julia P was great, very energetic and accommodating. Something got stuck in our room "crush depth" and she was quick to help, we even got a free voucher for the trouble (although it didn't detract from the experience at all). We went back the next day to do "boobie trap" and had such a fun time, we were all laughing throughout. Anderson and Evonne were super funny and we loved it. When it comes to escape rooms, immersion is something that is very important. Trapology not only gives you an immersive experience but also very well crafted rooms.
