Just strolling by and this place caught our eye. It was packed but they sat us quickly. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I got the bruschetta to start and my GF got the salad both were good. For lunch she got the chicken Parmesan which was very good and thankfully made with no cheese. It wasn't your typical heavy chicken parm that puts you to sleep just after! I went with the wild boar pasta and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend. The service was wonderful, I accidentally hit my white shirt with pasta sauce and the staff quickly came to the rescue and cleaned it!

Great service. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter was very helpful with recommendations and helped us with our Italian. Highly recommend this place !

Amazing food and service. The gnocchi alla sorrentina was great. I recommend hitting this spot when you're in Florence.

Margherita Pizza @ Ristorante Casa del Vin Santo in Florence, Italy. Bland, overpriced pizza and where's the basil???
Michelle M.

My husband and I visited Ristorante Casa del Vin Santo for a light snack after our wine tour. We were a little put off that there was a €2 service charge per person just to sit in the restaurant. It is true that some restaurants do this in Italy, but they are usually the restaurants that are beside a tourist attraction or are on the water or have a beautiful view. I cannot say that Ristorante Casa del Vin Santo offered any of these aspects and we had eaten in the area prior and none of the other restaurants charged this silly fee. We took advantage of the free wi-fi and the bathrooms at the restaurant to justify paying €4. We ordered a bottle of water and a margherita pizza. The pizza was pretty generic and had no basil on the pizza. A Margherita pizza consists only of tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil so it was very dissappointing that one of the three toppings were missing. This may have been the most disappointing pizzas we had during our vacation in Italy.

Oh steak.... how we enjoyed you!!

I am so shocked as to how these reviews vary. Let me first say I am stingy with 5 stars, but this place was totally worth it. Hands down our best meal in Florence. We ordered the spaghetti with fresh tomatoes and basil / and chicken with mushrooms. The best chicken dish during our 15 days in Italy. But the best thing? Homemade fresh minestrone soup. Piping hot with fresh vegetables it was amazing. Service was very accommodating, and we only wish we had more time in Florence to go once again.

Couldn't agree more with the other reviews. During our last stay in Florence we had dinner here. It was simply awful. The pizza was soggy, seafood risotto was too salty and not fresh. I would have liked an extra plate for the shells but was not given any. Staff was unfriendly and not paying attention to us at all, the pizza arrived within 10minutes wheras the risotto took about 24min. A pity to not be able to dine together. Overall, bad experience and overpriced for the missing quality. Definitely better places close by!

We loved the food here! My husband says this place has the best steak in town. My veggie pizza was delicious. The service and ambiance was excellent. We would definitely eat here again!

Pasta all'aviarata is amazing. Little spicy and flavorful tomato based pasta. Also had fresh tasting pizzas. Nice restaurant - not a generic run of the mill. Young professional crowd and reasonable service given we are in Florence.

we were enticed to try this place by the nice lady standing outside in the restaurant who told us that everytthing in their menu is under 20€ - we were convinced quite easily .sadly, this place was by far the worst restaurant we've had the misfortune of trying in florence. we ordered something off their "weekly menu" , the seafood platter.it eas supposed to be our appetizer. it came to our table looking all pretty , with a baked scallop and potatoes on a shell, two pieces of shrimp and tuna ceviche. the scallop was FROZEN. it was cooked, yes, but after cooking they put it in the freezer for god knows how long, so when they served it, it was frozen. it was all downhill form there. we informed our server of the disgusting frozen scallop, and he didnt even apologize. he took away the scallop, and belatedly told us that they will just redeuce the price of the seafood platter. save yourselves the trouble, do not go here. such a waste of money.

We ordered the 2.6 lb dry aged Florentine steak and gnocchi. The Florentine steak is a must try steak here. It was very juicy, tender, and it was bursting with flavor. The meat was nice and chewy. The steak was gigantic and it is bigger than my head. They first bring out the raw steak and weight it in front of you. The steak is enough to share for three people. The gnocchi was also very delicious. It was cheesy and rich. It was also in a way creamy and the cheese just melted in your mouth. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth and eaten. The cheesecake is very famous in this restaurant. We tried it and understand why. The cheesecake was super creamy and soft. I had a great time and experience here. Definitely will be back sometime soon hopefully. This is a place I highly recommend to everyone. Come and try it out for yourselves.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. He had his own GF bread basket and was able to order almost anything on the menu. We ordered a nice bottle of Montepulciano red for the table that was $48. Others had the Hugo spritz. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

Wow, what a special place…read more Set inside a 14th-century tower near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, this restaurant delivers an unforgettable dining experience from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere alone is worth a visit, but the food is what truly makes it exceptional. We ordered the ravioli, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, the Florentine steak, a mixed salad, affogato, and fresh strawberries with mascarpone cream. To drink, we shared a small carafe of red wine and a Pinot Grigio. Everything was spectacular. The Florentine steak was easily the best--and largest--I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and remarkably tender, it was the highlight of an already outstanding meal. The pappardelle with boar ragù was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, while the ravioli was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Every dish felt authentic, carefully executed, and memorable. The wine was another pleasant surprise. Both selections were excellent and very reasonably priced, making the meal feel like an even better value. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. He patiently answered questions, explained the menu, and guided us toward some fantastic choices. Although we thought we were too full for dessert, we're very glad we changed our minds. The affogato was fantastic, and the strawberries with mascarpone cream were absolutely delicious. One of the highlights of the evening was watching our four-year-old happily clutching two spoons and enthusiastically scooping fresh strawberries and mascarpone into his mouth. It was one of those memorable family travel moments that you don't forget. A terrific meal, a unique historic setting, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. This was one of our favorite dining experiences in Florence, and I highly recommend it.

We were welcomed warmly by the staff (he literally said "ah yes I remember you" ) and guided to our cozy little table in the corner. Were ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico to start, as well as a few pastas plus the steak and cod. I can safely say the spaghetti pomodoro with burrata was the best pasta dish I've had in Italy - the pasta was perfectly cooked and the cherry tomatoes was so sweet, the kind of thing that reminds you why you came to Italy in the first place. Overall: great service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food. Just be sure to make a reservation!!

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Back in the…read morestates, I always get strange reactions from the waiters when I order my steak "as rare as possible." That is what I was expecting in Italy. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.

The menu was solid, if a bit "generic" at times. While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. All in all, we loved our meal and would definitely recommend this spot if you're in Florence.
