Short Review: About a five minute walk from the Duomo in Firenze, and on a cozy but well-trafficked side street. Food is excellent and service is fast. Long Review: I was in search of the best spaghetti in Firenze and I think I found it! It's a cute little restaurant about a 5-min walk to the Piazza del Duomo. There's as much outdoor seating as there is indoor seating, which is a nice differentiator for them. We walked up and were seated outside right away. The requisite bread and water was served right away and a friendly waiter came to take our order of food...and of course wine. The streets near the duomo are all well-trafficked so just know that the wait staff will tell you over and over to not keep your mobile devices or purse on the table. They get taken by the pickpockets pretty often I guess. Nonetheless the meal, the ambiance of the busy street and the service was absolutely fantastic. And the food! OMG it was honestly some of the best food I've had in Firenze. And it wasn't an ostentatious restaurant. Definitely family owned and operated and they've got the market on the location! Trattoria Antellesi is tucked into a side street off Florence's historic center with a classic, understated exterior that blends into the surrounding stone streets. Inside, it feels like a traditional Tuscan dining room: warm lighting, warm yellow-painted walls, rustic wood furnishings, and a cozy, intimate layout. The vibe is relaxed and authentically local, with a slower-paced, sit-down dining experience that encourages lingering. At around 8pm on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was mostly full, but our party of five was able to be seated immediately. The menu is extensive, with both Italian and English versions; there's also a daily special menu that's quite fairly priced, and has some more traditional Italian dishes. They offer some more familiar options like bruschetta and meatballs with tomato sauce, as well as the classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Each table comes with complementary bread service, which was a bit stale, but it's free; what more could you ask for? It was also paired with a rich, earthy olive oil and tangy balsamic vinegar. Four members of our party ordered Aperol Spritzes (€8) - these were tangy, refreshing, and with just the right amount of sweetness countering the fizzy Prosecco and citrusy, herbal Aperol. For entrees, two members of our party ordered the Spaghetti Fiaccheraia (€13), which is spaghetti in garlic and oil with chili pepper, bacon, and ricotta. While this seems like quite a simple dish, there's so much complexity in the variety of flavors and textures. The spaghetti was al dente, and soaked up the addictive, slightly-spicy garlic oil; they were also more than willing to exclude the bacon for my vegetarian friend. Another friend opted for the Pappardelle Coniglio (€13) on the special menu - a tomato-based pasta with rabbit. Certainly a dish you couldn't get at most Italian places in the States, and the wide noodles paired nicely with the acidic tomatoes and gamey rabbit. The Ravioli Burro Salvia (€15) was a traditional Florentine ravioli with ricotta cheese, spinach, butter, and sage; while the portion was a bit small, this dish was truly made with care. The filling let the earthy flavor of the spinach shine while being further elevated by the sage and rich, tangy ricotta cheese. Lastly, my Spaghetti alla Carbonara Fiorentina Tartufata (€17) was an indulgent take on the classic spaghetti carbonara, with egg, pecorino cheese, bacon, and freshly-shaved black truffle. While this was a tasty dish with a large portion, the sauce had partially clotted, and I found it to be missing some component of acidity or brightness to liven the dish up and contrast the richness. I was stuffed by the end of my meal, but some members of my party opted for their Tiramisu (€7) - this is an elevated take on the classic Italian dessert, with whipped mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfingers served in a parfait-like glass and sprinkled with a light dusting of cocoa powder. It was neither too sweet nor too rich; the perfect amount of decadence to end a meal. We had a lovely time during our dinner at Trattoria Antellesi, prices are more than reasonable for a traditional trattoria experience with delicious food and a lovely ambience. It may not be as flashy as some of the more touristy restaurants in the city, but certainly a great stop for traditional Florentine food if you're in the area! read more

First time in Florence and like a puppy in pet store--I wanted to check out everything. The challenge to find a good place for dinner was not small. Lots of tourist traps, according to travel "experts". Luckily our party found a great spot right outside our hotel. What I love about Florence is that it does not look or feel like where I am from. It is so different, so exotic, so...old. One can feel the centuries in that city. It is wonderful. We were fortunate to have a friend who lived in Italy and spoke the language. So the food...excellent (check out the pics). Everything was so fresh and flavorful...it blew away Olive Garden (alright, just kidding). The service was also good. I've read a few reviews here and this was not our experience. Our server was helpful and courteous. I plan to return to Florence. And, I plan to return to Trattoria Antellisi as well. read more

A cute, lively, and authentic ristorante to sit down and eat some amazing Florentine food! There is an inside with AC, but we chose to sit outside as it was the end of the day and not too hot outside. We order Fried Zucchini Blossoms for an appetizer. They were fantastic! So delicate yet crunchy and full of flavor. For our Entrees, we ordered Spaghetti with Clams and Meatballs with mashed potatoes. The spaghetti was absolutely fantastic! The clam sauce was rich and creamy with notes of garlic. The meatballs were just as good! The service was excellent. The two waitresses we had were so sweet and so funny. One of the waitresses does not speak English fluently but she did our best to communicate with us. She's also very passionate about what Parmesan does and does not belong on. Charming spot on a busy street full of little restaurants. It was very busy- we were seated indoors, which was fine. I had a local steak, which was ok, good seasoning but a bit tough, my husband had ravioli in brown butter which was amazing. He had a few beers, i had a great red wine. The gentleman who waited on us was maybe the owner or manager- he was very busy and distracted, so service was hectic at best. There were many patrons trying to settle their checks and it took a very long time. If it weren't so chaotic with lots of arguing amongst staff I'd go to 4 stars for the food. read more

This was a decent dining experience. I wouldn't rave about it as some reviewers have, especially given all of the fabulous restaurants in Florence. The highlights were definitely the pate, the prosciutto and the meatballs. The sauce on the spaghetti wasn't particularly flavorful and the mushrooms in the tagliatelle were pretty mushy. The chicken was quite dry. Service was reasonable. We wouldn't say don't go here but we wouldn't put it on a list of places to be sure to visit nor would we go back again given all the options. read more

Everything we had the chance to try here was outstanding. I got a €25 bruschetta and bistecca deal, which allowed me to get the amazing bruschetta and the super tender and flavorful steak. The risotto was another special that was packed with flavor. We tried to figure out the exact ingredients, but the language barrier with the waiter held us back. 4.5 stars Bistecca alla Fiorentina is a specialty of Tuscan cuisine that's a must-try when visiting the Toscana region of Italy! Trattoria Antellesi, located on a side street near the Basilica di San Lorenzo, offered a half kilo of this steak along with bruschetta and roasted potatoes for just 23 Euros, and pairing the steak with a local Chianti wine is a must! To start, the bruschetta with tomatoes was a delicious pairing of crunchy, toasted bread with juicy tomatoes and olive oil. We also got an order of panzanella, a salad made of rehydrated bread, tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers, and our server instructed us to dress this mixture with plenty of olive oil and red wine vinegar. But the main attraction was, of course, the juicy steak, which was chargrilled to perfection and had a deep smokey flavor. The steak was seasoned simply with rock salt and herbs, and the potatoes roasted with rosemary were surprisingly delicious too. I also asked for some of their chili oil on the side, which added a nice spicy kick that went well with the potatoes especially. Overall, this trattoria was a great place to experience Bistecca alla Fiorentina in a cozy atmosphere and with super hospitable service. Pretty weak. Very cute inside and outside. Beer was not cold enough on a super hot day. Started with good bread and a delicious antipasti of friend zucchini blossom. However, the plate of homemade spaghetti with garlic and tomatoes was terrible. The pasta was so Al dente that it was barely chewable and the sauce was so think it made a gelatinous mess and all the past stuck together in one clump. I like Al dente pasta but not this mess. As we were walking along the street a man screams out hook 'em! I was shocked so I turned around and I see a University of Texas banner in the window. When I travel abroad I like to show my school pride and home town pride so you'll see me in various jerseys, shirts, and jackets that when seen will be recognizable. I came up and was shocked to meet someone who recognized the logo but was an active supporter. Some of his best friends are from Texas and he has a picture of Mack Brown holding up the championship trophy along with UT sports bands. I took a picture with him and told him we'd be back for dinner. While we were out I looked up the reviews of the restaurant and it was stated to have some of the best steaks in town. We came back after a day of sight seeing and let him pick our dinner. It started off with a very smooth red wine, then we got raviolis with pears, the sweet pears was a fresh balance, and then the steak was the steak for 2, thick cut and cooked to perfection, finished it off with tiramisu for dessert. This was easily our worst meal in Italy. The food is... fine... but it really tasted like decent Italian food from the US (and geared to those tastes). Best in Florence, possibly all of Italy. Ambiance is fine but not spectacular, service is good but not impeccable. BUT the food, my oh my, the food. The taste, the flavors, this is what Italy is famous for. It took until day number 5 of our trip to experience real good Italian food, and this was that. First, the pasta with wild boar... Oh my, the pasta was cooked just right, chewy inside, soft outside and the boar was perfectly flavored. Definitely not your usual meat sauce spaghetti. Pork chop, good flavors, balanced with good char. Next, the Florentine steak. Good quality meat, tender. The flavor was more mild compared to other restaurants so this was not necessarily the best. The real winner was the sliced steak with black truffle sauce. My oh my, the truffle complimented the sIteak perfectly. Divine. Tiramsu was good, very creamy and balanced. Seafood rissoto was good with lots of mussels and clams which were really fresh. I will be dreaming of this meal for some time to come. Simply one of the best dining experiences. Ever. read more

If we hadn't have Yelp-searched for a dinner location, we'd have never made it to this part of town let alone to this darling restaurant. Florence continues to amaze us with its fine dining options tucked into the nooks and crannies of its many neighborhoods. We were looking for an authentic family dining experience. One that wasn't at all pretentious or overly fancy. Romeo found the many reviews about the 15 Euros steak at Trattoria Antellesi. So we set off shortly before 7pm to experience it for ourselves. Having not been on that side of town before and shocked that we could have missed so much of that bustling area, we almost walked by the street. We turned quickly onto it without tripping over any cobblestones (for once) and then nearly missed the trattoria because it has a tiny facade with only a few tables set street side. But once we'd figured it out, we were quickly greeted and seated inside the front window of what must be a converted home. It's quaint, comfortable and just the type of place that makes our little family smile. Once again, we asked for a liter of the house Chianti and weren't disappointed. The kiddo surprised us with a request of simply water. She then opened the menu and to her delight found spaghetti al pomodoro e grana. Romeo and I started our meal with a shared plate of prosciutto e melone. The cantaloupe was sweet. The prosciutto was authentic, not the deli ham that other places pawn off as prosciutto. The salty and sweet combination was delicious. For our main courses, he selected the steak and potatoes. He liked it very much. It was cooked to a beautiful medium temperature and the potatoes were lightly seasoned. Overall, he said that he could have cooked a steak just like it. So it wasn't necessarily a groundbreaking exploration of beef but it was definitely a tasty, homey deal for 15 Euros. I had selected the pici alla chiantigiana. The menu simply says meat in Chianti sauce. So I was hoping to not find pigs feet or pigeon wings on my plate. Thankfully, it was homemade thick pasta strands covered with tender bits of beef amidst a savory yet sweet wine sauce. It was so yummy! It was certainly not a meal that could be ingested in large quantities as after about the tenth forkful the sweetness of the sauce starts to become a bit too much for the tastebuds. But it was really a treat of a dish, one that I was very glad to have tried. We finished our wine and passed on dessert despite a tempting selection. Once again we were headed to the kiddo's favorite gelaterria. If you're in the mood for a well-made dinner served by gracious, friendly waitstaff in a casual atmosphere, then opt for a meal at Trattotia Antellesi. You won't be disappointed. read more

Great location right near the Medici chapel and easy to get to. I had the truffle pasta. This was my first time trying truffles and I was unsure what to expect but it was delicious! The sauce was creamy and fresh and the truffles were a unique flavor that's tough to describe but I recommend trying it! The staff was wonderful. Seven years ago, my friend ate at Trattoria Antellesi, a remarkable restaurant run by an Italian chef and his American wife. It's nice to know that Trattoria Antellesi still stands today and the food is just as good as it was then. In actuality, Trattoria Antellesi has been in business for over thirty years. It's a historical place which sits in a seventeenth century building. Yes, so many buildings are old in Europe. And yet they are strong, still standing, and fit in without a question in today's modern life. The atmosphere is homey at Antellesi. No one is rushed and the food is made with such care and detail. It's simple fare and delicious without shortcuts. I ordered the osso bucco, which tasted as if it were braised for hours. It was tender and soft. I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The veal was melt in your mouth. Slices of soft carrots, celery, peas, onions and capers were spooned over it. The sauce had been thickened. Aside from the meat, my favorite part was taking the marrow and spreading it over my bread. Oh heaven! The other dish we ordered was grilled salmon with salad. It was perfect. The skin was crisp, the fish was not overcooked, and it had a flavor so fresh. Just a few herbs, olive oil, and a squeeze of lemon. Good to go! Very healthy. Dessert was non-existent for us since the kitchen had run out of tiramisu. It wasn't an issue for us since there was a gelateria right across the street. Trattoria Antellesi is the type of restaurant where you could linger for awhile. Large groups have fun and couples can enjoy that quiet evening out.
