Our experience was not positive. My husband's lasagna was frozen in the middle which proves that they are warming up rather than making fresh. Waiter was friendly and we were sat immediately with our reservation. The bread basket was decent, we liked the darker bread. By far the favorite dish was gnudi. After being turned away from a very popular restaurant (I had a reservation) because they did not to accommodate space for my baby - I found this restaurant on yelp. They were soooooo amazing from the beginning. They not only accommodated my baby, but gave us a private table so that he could sleep. The food was amazing. We arrived late 2 nights ago. Trattoria Anita is right around the corner from our apartment. Last night's dinner was so enjoyable that all 4 of us agreed to come again tonight. The food is so delicious that we wanted to reserve for tomorrow - a third night - but it's a rest day for the restaurant. The Taglerini Tartufati is to die for and my husband loves the tripe dish. My friend and I visited Trattoria Anita on a friend who studied abroad in Florence's recommendation. We were so glad we did- the food was delicious! We started out splitting some caprese salad- plenty for two people to share; and after much menu debating, I ordered a pasta with a mushroom truffle sauce which was extremely decadent. My friend got a pasta dish as well with a meat sauce which she raved about. We were so stuffed and weren't able to finish our entrees- resulting in us being chastised by the waiter :) Trattoria Anita is tucked away on a side street off a main road- nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the many tourists in Florence. Wow! What a gem! I'd totally recommend this place over almost any place I tried while in Florence. First off, it's family-owned and homey inside, and you don't feel like you're part of the tourist crowd. That's particularly important in a place like Florence where there are so many tourist trap restaurants (or TTs as I like to call them). For drinks, stick with the house wine--it's super inexpensive and works well with their cuisine without breaking the bank. Plus, it's locally made and stored in large barrels--how cool is that?!? =) As for food, all of the menu items we tried were tasty. Particularly good were the ragu style pasta w/ bacon & peas (I forget what they called it on the menu but look at the picture I posted) and tortellini w/ sausage and truffle (again, look at my pic of this on Yelp!). You can't go wrong with either of those for sure! Note that if you're looking for a high-end, gourmet experience, this is not it. This is just an unpretentious, ma & pa style establishment. WOW! We found this place by searching on 'Maps' in my iPhone and we were the first people for their lunch crowd. The server was great -- taught us many Italian words as we switched from Spanish, English and some French. The food was OUTSTANDING. Everything we ordered was great! The house wine was great; the beer was ice cold; the dessert and coffee were also outstanding. It was so good that we tried going back the next day, our last day in Florence, and sadly it was closed. My friend, Carolyn, and I first discovered this magical Trattoria on our first trip to Florence 7ish years ago. Yesterday I returned to Florence and remembered this being one of my favorite casual/delicious places, so I suggested to Carolyn that we check out "that trattoria with the name I'll never remember by the old apartment on Via de' Neri and in some tiny alley behind a main street." This is the kind of vagueness that I'm famous for. With Yelp not being around in Europe way back when, I wasn't exactly checking into places when in Europe (how did I ever LIVE without the check-in feature, I wonder from time to time?) I was in the middle of Via de Neri when it hit me. "Anita!" I suddenly exclaimed apropos of nothing because we were at the same time looking for a shoe store I had once been obsessed with (7 pairs-obsessed), which was gone, daddy, gone. I digress. Consulted the Yelp app and realized, yay, we were steps away, turned the corner and there it was... a dimly lit oasis in the middle of a slightly, um, dodgy alleyway (things aren't really all that dodgy in Firenze, truth be told). We walked in and all three of the same waiters were there, which was really cool! Especially because they are nice in an avuncular way (hard to explain) and one of them clearly remembered us, in that, "these silly American girls are here again" way that's actually nicer than it sounds. The prices haven't changed much in 7 years either, which is terribly refreshing! Like, you can still get a half litre of house wine for 4 Euro. And ribolitta (my favorite Tuscan specialty) for 6. It's a humble homey place with delicious food and the atmosphere is pretty unintentionally lovely too. You'll be surrounded by large Italian families indulging in the typical long, late night dinners, and really, how can that ever be a bad thing? read more

They've succumbed to what happens to too many restaurants flooded with tourist money, they stopped caring. The food becomes blah, non-descript representations of local fare. Rating: 90/100 pts This unsuspecting, traditional Tuscan trattoria served one of the greatest meals I had in Italy. Three things that help ensure a restaurant will be good in Italy: 1) It should be filled with locals (avoid places aimed at tourists) 2) The menu should only be written in Italian (further proof that the restaurant is for locals and not tourists) 3) The menu should be handwritten (signifying a reliance on fresh, rather than stocked, ingredients) Not only did Trattoria Anita possess all three of these traits, but I almost had to do a double take when I saw the prices: for lunch, you can get a first course, a second course. and a vegetable side dish for a mere €10. Not only was this cheaper than anywhere else I saw, but the quality of the food was phenomenal, and portions were generous. (I came with a friend and we shared one €10 meal between the two of us, and we were both still pretty full.) When I went in for lunch, from the 6 primi, 6 secondi, and 3 vegetable dishes to choose from, I went with the Ribolleta, Roasted Turkey, and Potatoes. Ribolleta is a traditional Tuscan stew consisting of vegetables, beans, and chunks of bread. You should definitely try this dish at least once while in Florence, and I'd say this is the place for it. Filled with spinach, peas, and carrots, theirs was deliciously savory, and salted to perfection. You may have noticed that the bread in Florence has "no" flavor. This is because it is traditionally cooked without salt. During the Middle Ages, a tax was levied on salt which caused Florentines to adapt to baking their bread without it, and the tradition stuck--at least that's what some claim. Others say that Tuscan food is simply salty enough, and that having salt in the bread would be too much. Eating their Ribolleta will make you a believer of the latter, as its flavoring mingled perfectly with the "tasteless" bread. The turkey was roasted to perfection. The meat was so tender and tasty, rivaling good Thanksgiving turkey. The potatoes, cooked in butter and rolled in parsley, were thoroughly cooked and amazingly soft. Service was friendly, prompt, and helpful, our waiter happy to explain the items on the menu that I didn't understand. As I was sitting at my wooden table, gazing at the rustic walls, and enjoying this delicious authentic meal, I came to the realization that this was a perfect Tuscan meal, without the slightest blemish. I assume this is how most restaurants were in the days before modern tourism. For most eateries, those days are long gone--but this is a timepiece that serves as a memento of when better eating was the norm. read more

For this one I have to thank Rick Steves. The Trattoria is tucked back in a side street near the Galileo museum- and so worth finding! Stopped by for lunch and could not believe the prices: a three plate lunch with water for €10 each? We both had the seafood pasta to start- mussels, clams and calamari in a good sauce. My son tried the rabbit and I had a pork chop. We decided to divide and conquer on the sides and got a salad and potatoes to share. Everything was flavorful and tasty. I also had a glass of the house white- light and a great accompaniment. All told, I would certainly return if only this weren't my last day in Firenze! read more

Tried this recommendation based on great reviews but I was not impressed. The appetizers were plain and there was nothing unique about their prosciutto. However, the chicken liver app is worth a try. Their pastas were simply okay and could not compete with the numerous Italian restaurants within the neighborhood. We arrived for lunch about 45 min before closing, I think generally the service in Florence is not as friendly as I am used to in the states but they quickly seated us, I attempted to use my Italian as we ordered and navigated through our meal and our waiter spoke enough English to help us along. We ordered the bruschetta which in my opinion was nothing special because I don't enjoy the salt free bread of the region but the truffle pasta with mushrooms I got and the ravioli with sausage my husband got were absolutely incredible!!!! At the end of our meal we asked for a tiramisu because we had seen someone else order it and it looked good, as it was passed their closing the waiter hesitated (not sure if they just run out or they wanted us to go lol) but we got one and it was the best I have ever had!!!!!! For the first course, I had the spicy spaghetti with Italian bacon in it. This was amazing. Best damn spaghetti I've ever had. My wife had some sort of pasta with mushrooms. This was also amazing. For the second course, I had a chicken dish that was good and very different from anything I've had. I can't recall the name, but I wouldn't be afraid to try anything on this menu. My wife had seafood and loved it. Pasta portions are big. Our waiter explained a little of the history of a trattoria. He said that they were intended for the working class and therefore the pasta dishes were big to help load up on carbs for work. Makes sense to me. We still came really close to finishing both of our pasta dishes. You'll leave this place full. Please try this restaurant during your stay in Firenze. We went to this restaurant because it was right around the corner from where we were staying (near the Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio). It was pretty full for a Thursday night, so it might be wise to make a reservation or come early -- most of the diners were younger folks or families looking for a cheaper option for eating out. While my pasta with spicy sauce was pretty good, the other items that we ordered were average at best (kind of reminded me of going to Buca Di Beppo in the states). Our prosciutto and cheese appetizer was melted in sort of a chunky block and came out a little lukewarm and my husband's tortellini was so bad that we couldn't even finish it. The upside is that you can get a half-liter of wine for four euros that's actually pretty drinkable. We reasoned that for the price, we should've expected the outcome (you get what you pay for). I'm not sure what happened because this place was recommended by a famous tour book that we've been following. But it was an unpleasant surprise. Taking a vacation in Florence, the owner of the B&B that we are staying at recommended it and I read the YELP reviews. It was great completely authentic . It's away from the fancy piazzas and has no view of anything but food, service and value are an easy 5 stars . 4 of us were there had starter to share, 4 anti pastas ( all good) and shared two portions of the Boar in tomato sauce, liter and a half of house wine and espressos all for 90 euros. This was my first sit down/non street food meal in Florence. I'm a 30 second walk from the place and saw all the reviews so I figured it would be worth checking out. First of all, they have updated their menu and raised their prices. The 3 course lunch is now 11 Euros. Granted it only went up 1 Euro but thought people should still know. The menu now is missing some of the choices I went there for in the first place. Not rating it though based on that. Went during lunch where it was a little busy but no wait. Mix of locals and tourists. I had: glass red wine bottle of water (while I had my own, I felt funny opening it up so I just bought there) side salad pasta with cheese beef The red wine was standard cheap wine. The water was standard water LOL.. The side salad was your typical garden salad and they give you a bottle of evoo and balsamic vinegar. The pasta with cheese was really bland tasting like something I would make. The beef with mushrooms tasted like a under-cooked hamburger paddy with mushrooms and gravy. I was really let down due to all the great reviews on here. Wouldn't recommend or return since there are similar restaurants near me where the prices are about the same but probably have a better menu with better food. Note, even if you don't touch the bread you will get charged 1 Euro. Waiter was nice enough to translate for me but not particularly friendly. NOTE: At dinner there isn't a preset menu like at lunch. Love love LOVED this place! My friend and I were on Spring Break trip to Italy and this was dinner on our first night of the trip. What a way to start it out! Such a traditional trattoria and really a hidden gem. We arrived around 7:45 and were seated immediately. The waiters were all very nice and accommodating to us, and not pushy like some we experienced elsewhere. We started with Pecorino e Prosciutto al forno, basically a baked dish of pecorino cheese and prosciutto with some bread for us to eat it with. Absolutely delicious! Then for dinner I got the Ravioli burro e salvia (butter and Sage) which was life changing, and my friend got Tonnarelli with a truffle cream sauce which was just as life changing. I found myself eating off her plate after I finished mine! For dessert, at the recommendation of our waiter we got creme brulee and boy it did NOT disappoint! They bring it out and torch it right in front of you. Probably the creamiest creme brulee I have ever had. Then to end an already wonderful meal, our waiter brought over complimentary limoncello!
