Seafood Lasagna
Jamise C.

We found this great little restaurant while trying to find our way to our hotel and we weren't disappointed. For €14, they offer two course meals, which is a steal. My friend and I thought we'd misunderstood at first. I ordered the seafood lasagna and fried mixed fish and thoroughly enjoyed both. The restaurant is quaint and quiet and good for people watching. The service was friendly. I'd go back again.

Seafood risotto!

Great food and atmosphere. Will likely return! Lovely patio seating too! A walking distance to our hotel

Location and some yummy appetizers.

We walked by on our way to our apartment. I noticed they had sardines, scallops and other seafood. We made a reservation. The food was delicious!!! Creamed cod- amazing, pasta with clams, pasta with black squid ink - so good! Grilled fish filleted table side. Wonderful service. I'm a foodie and I would return! Very close to F.te Nove...

Cute little place, very nice staff and great food. I ordered Squid Ink pasta, it was delicious and cook perfectly. Steak was good too. We would definitely come again next time in Venice.

Pros: - At the risk of hyperbolizing, I'm going to say that this is the best plate of Pasta Bolognese I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, with an amazing texture. The Bolognese sauce had a unique ingredient; I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but the taste was totally unique compared to Italian restaurants back home. - My wife had a masterfully grilled whole Branzino. The waiter cleaned and filleted the fish at the table so we knew it was fresh. The very subtle olive-oil-based dressing was simply exquisite. At ~25 euros, this was a steal! - This little Trattoria is well off the beaten path, all the way in northern Cannaregio, away from the hordes of tourists and the terrible eateries in San Marco. Cons: - The location can be a little difficult to find, but it is well worth the effort.

Pasta With Clam Shell AMAZING!

Wow I am shocked by the bad reviews then again I am shocked this place has so few reviews so it's hard to make a decent judgement. This was the best pasta and best Italian food I have ever had in my entire life. I come from growing up with food made from scratch by my Italian grandparents and my Italian mother in New York the place where you can get the best Italian food inside the U.S. I have also eaten Italian food in Venice, Rome, Florence, and Sicily before and this was still the best. I'm not sure what people expect and maybe that is why this place has poor reviews. Additionally this is more of a local spot you will not run into many tourists here which to me makes it all the better to come to this restaurant. It was highly recommended to me by a hotel worker. It was located only about two blocks from where I stayed because I stayed in an area where not many American tourists stayed I was mainly with Italian and European tourists. This food was not Americanized though they do have a small tourist menu they recommend if that's what you're looking for. They even give you a free glass of house wine without asking for it also. I highly recommend the pasta with the clam shell in the dish and I cannot wait to go back this will be the first place I eat at again!

We were recommended this place by someone we met at a restaurant. We ordered a pasta, tuna carpaccio and a caprese salad. The food itself was okay. I really liked the caprese salad but it's difficult to mess up tomato, mozzarella and arugula. The pasta was okay, the flavors were good but the pasta itself was slightly over cooked. The tuna was also okay.

I'm quite sad and shock that this place has such negative reviews. This is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life. I have eaten plenty of good Italian food from east coast to west coast, and in several places throughout Italy. Yes, the service might not be super fast nor super friendly, but it is because they are an authentic Italian restaurant, not some tourist trap at St. Marco Square. Everything they served is fresh! I got a seafood pasta plate and OMG the clams were so delicious and so was the pasta noodles. My taste buds were going crazy after the first bite. If I come back to Venice, I will seek out this places again, even if it means getting lost through the confusing alleys. Anyway, I just felt that this place did not deserve a fair rating. I highly recommend this place to everyone. The price is fair and the food is excellent. Don't waste your money going to some fancy nancy Italian place in the tourist area, come here and have a taste of real Venice.

I don't know which Italian families started the rumor of dime before going to Venice, but I'm here to tell you, it's just that. A rumor. We discovered a locally enjoyed Trattoria that has literally the best lasagna I've ever had. If I could enjoy this every day, I would be there in a heartbeat. The lasagna noodles, and all of the ingredients are all made in-house, and made in very small, limited quantities. The sauce, the béchamel, the pairing with the pasta is perfection. It's plated as if you were sitting in someone's kitchen, if not your own. It's not necessarily pretty to look at, but damn... When I tell you that this is the best lasagna I've ever had, it truly is. Even the bread that is routinely served, and by the way you are charged for it, not only is made in the house, but taste like love. Many tourists seem to pass this place by, and it absolutely is enjoyed by locals and frankly, if you know you know. I'm here to tell you, this is a place you need to know. The woman that was seated next to us, enjoyed a lovely, large salad, that she said she has every day, along with branzino. She said that they are her daily go to for meal, while she enjoys a glass of wine and reading a book. She praised us for discovering the restaurant, and she was tired of seeing locals that she knows lol. Add this to your must try list when in Venice, Italy. The family that owns and runs this restaurant, scurries about as they are very attentive to keeping people moving in and out of the restaurant as needed, filling, glasses, bringing food to the tables, and keeping their customers happy. The father and son that were there, are really nice, and very welcoming!

A one-star review. That happens very rarely with me. When travelling I prepare myself well…read more Checking ratings, reading reviews. Making lists with options to eat. So, what happened here you might ask? We walked by this restaurant a day before our experience. A lively place selling tasty-looking seafood. Checked the ratings, looked all fine. So we decided to come back the next day to get some nice early dinner. We wanted to sit inside actually, but were told to get a table outside. Looked like rain soon - which luckily didn't arrive. Our waiter seemed rushed and not really in a good mood from the start. Got handed the menu. But there's a nice counter inside with all kinds of nice fish and seafood. That's actually what we came for. We asked the waiter on how to order that, but were told "no need to rush" without further explanation and left. So my wife went inside to have a look, since we didn't find that on the menu card we've got. She ordered a nice plate of mixed seafood inside. Which somewhat angered our waiter. I was still reading the menu for some more dishes to order. Waiter took it out of my hand, telling me "you don't need that anymore, you already ordered". Yeah, some. But we wanted more. But we made a decision that moment to leave it and to stop ordering more. Really weren't in the mood for food anymore. Shortly after he arrived with the mixed seafood. And that was actually very tasty. Fantastic even. Had two glasses of white wine with if, tasty as well, but not cheap. After less than half an hour we decided to pay and leave. Even great, we didn't enjoy it much anymore. Asked for the bill, our waiter arrived with it shortly after. Then the reason for the one-star review came (actually reason enough at that point already). My wife merely asked if she could pay with a credit card. "Be quiet!" was the answer. Yes! Be Quiet...to my wife! These exact words. Not because of a language barrier (his english was more than fine), not because of a misunderstanding. Plain and simple rudeness. I hope his mother is proud of him. How dare you talk to a woman, to a paying guest like that. If my wife wouldn't have signaled me to stay calm, I would have caused a very big scene at that moment. But we were on vacation. We won't a moment like this kill our mood for the rest of the trip. But at that moment I was cooking inside. A verbal attack like this I've never encountered. I've read some more reviews later. It seems not the first time that service here is out of line. It's a shame. The food is wonderful. Not cheap though, paid almost 50 Euros! Coperta is a normal thing, but here a bit higher than elsewhere. And this is the first time I've thought that the coperta was not deserved. Almost took it off the bill, but we didn't want to cause a bigger fight. Not sure what was/is wrong with this certain waiter. A dislike to tourists? A bad day? But: there's no reason to treat us like this. THE worst service experience we've ever had. And that means something. If you read up on my reviews here on Yelp and other platforms you'll see that bad reviews like this rarely happen. Nothing's gonna happen to Mr. Friendly anyway job-wise. But I wish at least he would be told by his boss. Then again, one day he'll meet guests that won't hold back if he acts like this again. And I find comfort in that.

Best cicchetti hands down. Each one is enough for two people. Delicious. The seafood sampler is…read moreamazing.

But what they've created can be a very fun experience if approached with the right attitude. Come during daylight hours, hopefully late afternoon (for lunch/drinks/appetizers) and sit only at an outside table along the Grand Canal. Situated near the bridge to Piazza Romolo, Rio Novo isn't on a very attractive part of the canal. Ignore the mass of people hurrying back to the bridge to catch their bus to who knows where. Look only at the canal. This might be the busiest, most intensely crowded part of the Grand Canal and it's a gas to watch. Motorboats kicking up wake, tourists on private water taxis making their way to a more attractive part of town and, once in a while some gondoliers taking passengers in a part of the canal far from serene. Is all of this fun to watch? Indeed. The staff here aims to please and will happily grab your camera and wait patiently for pedestrians to pass by before snapping a few dozen photos of you enjoying the place. After your meal, the server will return with an ice cold, complimentary Limoncello for you. And the food and drink? Very reasonably priced and satisfying (we enjoyed both spaghetti and lasagna), especially when you throw in the waterfront entertainment. There's a million prettier canal-adjacent restaurants, pricier and run by Italians. That said, Rio Novo is a fun place from which to enjoy the hustle-bustle of the canal along with well-priced, satisfying food and drink.

So we came here for an early dinner (around 5pm), kitchen is open through! Took a nice table inside by the window. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Staff/owner very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome here. Inside it's a nice, cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine on the menu as well. For all kinds of budgets. And at the counter a nice display of all kinds of seafood. Lovely place. We've ordered the Crudo di Mare plate and Spaghetti Vongole. And a .375ml bottle of their white house wine, which turned out to be a good pairing with the seafood. Both dishes were excellent! Plenty of Vongole (clams) in the pasta dish, Spaghetti were perfectly cooked. Vongole were nice and fresh and the dish perfectly spiced (not too much, which is good). A real highlight definitely the Crudo di Mare. Two langoustines (so nice and sweet flavour), two red shrimp. scallops, tuna, swordfish, oysters and tuna tartare. All fresh, all tasty. An excellent mix of wonderful fish and seafood. Quality wise along on top with the best ones we've had so far (we love Crudo di Mare). And all is nicely presented. Really made our day, this meal here. After the meal we even got some aperitif on the house. A wonderful place. Feels very relaxed, lots of great items on the menu. And really fair prices, this is a real gem here with great value. And we will definitely be back next time in Venice. Highly recommended!
