Saor ran us through the options and we ended up ordering the following: Green beans with almond, grilled fennel with walnuts, lentils and stuffed mushrooms. You really cannot go wrong with any of these as how they were severed though my personal favorite were the lentils and the fennel. Absolutely recommend the place and their hosts and as well the ambiance that you get in a subtle kind of quite part of the town. Just do it!!

To finish, we had limoncello made by Marco's mother, and it was absolutely delicious. What really made the evening special was Marco and his family. They were warm, kind, and genuinely happy to share their story with us. We loved hearing about his late father and the lasting impact he had on both the family and the restaurant. One of the most memorable parts of the night was joining in the restaurant tradition of coloring pictures and exchanging them with drawings already hanging on the ceiling. We ended up taking home a picture created by a family member, and it will be making the journey back with us to Carlsbad, California. Al Garzoti doesn't have any of these things, with their name only appearing inside on the bar. Service is nothing to write home about; our waiter who looked like a young Nick Jonas, minus the charm, barely interacted with us, but the food he brought us was wonderful! If you've already had some pizza while in Italy, then go with a calzone instead. They are large and a great value, too. Note the ingredients first, though; Italians do not like substitutions. I tried a pezzo di pizze with ham and that too, was great!

It was good to know that even pasta out of a box can be prepared with the freshest ingredients. I ordered the pesto with garlic and pecorino, and it was honestly one my favorite pastas I've had in Italy. My pasta came with rigatoni, which was perfectly al dente.

Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!

Word to the wise: The outdoor tables are nice, but the birds--especially seagulls--are not afraid of people and will throw up gang signs as they try to take your food!
