The calamari was perfectly crispy, the gnocchi soft and pillowy, each bite a nostalgic journey back to those Sunday dinners at Nona's house. The cannoli, a sweet symphony of ricotta and chocolate, was the perfect end to the meal. However, the Caesar salad was unremarkable and slightly overdressed, a minor hiccup in an otherwise well-executed menu. Service was great. Our server was attentive and there when you needed her, but also gave us the space to enjoy our meal. It was clear that they were working through some opening night bumps. There were lots of staff standing around, not super attentive to things like refilling water, replacing silverware, or providing a pen to sign the check. These are minor kinks that can be ironed out with time. Despite these small service flaws, this place has massive potential. I think this new addition to Kensington is really going to grow into its own. The servers and staff were delightful and attentive overall.ad to "saw" it. My Alla Palini was okay but rather bland We ordered Allo Scoglio on the server's recommendation. This pasta was a memorable one; it was spicy, tangy, and perfectly balanced. It's rare to find a pasta dish that hits all the right notes like this one. The table-side tiramisu was a showstopper for our daughter, although it wasn't soaked as it traditionally should be. The drink menu was limited, and surprisingly, if you sit at the bar, you get more options. The Negroni was good, no frills. Overall, this is a good place to hang out, though it could be slightly cheaper, considering they aim to be a neighborhood restaurant. Amongst the many amazing Italian restaurants in the area, it's hard to see how it will stand out. I was expecting a true Sicilian menu, which San Diego sorely lacks. We visited Trattoria yesterday, their second day operating and we found the place delightful! The food was amazing, we started with the 4 cheese flatbread and Sofias Caprese, we love cheese so these two are totally worth it. Then we had the Con Patate pasta to share, it was super good, and also the Filleto al Funghi, which was an amazing filet mignon with a delicious mushroom sauce, cooked on the dot. The service was insanely good, taking under consideration they just opened, all the staff was attentive and greeted us nicely. Franco and Mario and Sofia were very delightful and talked to us about the story of the owners and origin. The ambience was great and a neighborhood like Kensington really needed it.
